Excellent video. You should always have to set true north for having correct shadows simultaneously with correct longitude and latitude values

I agree. Some firms don't use Revit for their shadow studies (though it's easy). So many projects never have the True North ever set. I like doing it right away when I get a site plan from the Civil engineer.

I have considered making a video just as you suggest! I almost made it last week, but decided on the North settings. I will make one soon about taking surveyor/civil information and setting Project Base Point and Survey Point. Thank you!

I have a situation where the client wants the Project North and True North on the titleblock. I don't see how a north arrow family can interact and read the true north, project north without being inserted into the plan. Is this possible? Or, do I just have to make a graphic and insert it into the titleblock as an image?
Good video explanation of setting True North, I have sent it to my colleagues.

You are correct. There isn't an easy way to create a family that grabs the True North angle and the Project North angle and can use them to fix/change your annotation family. So, I created a simple North Arrow family that can rotate based on what angle I type into it. It's manual, but it works.

Hey Wait... I just had an idea. Create a plan view that ONLY HAS A NORTH ARROW IN IT!!! Then you can place that view onto the sheet and it will always be correct. The only drawback... plan views can only be place onto ONE sheet. But LEGENDS can be on multiple sheets... so instead, create a LEGEND that has your north arrow in it. Set it one time and then you can place that onto several sheets. And if for some reason you need to fix/change it... change it once in the Legend and it will fix everywhere. After this short 'brainstorm', I realize a simple annotation family will update everywhere when its updated also... so scrap this whole 'legend view' idea. It was worth talking about though. =)

@@miketaylor-fantastic Well, where did I end up then :). I did a work around by making a drafting view and manually drew the correct project an true north directions. The pasted it in the title block. Not ideal, but works for this submission to the client. Thanks
