    "I've been consistently watching your videos covering various topics, and I must say, each one is meticulously explained, making it easier to grasp the functions and practical applications in enhancing our project workflow within Revit. Your teaching style is engaging and manages to keep me attentive - a feat considering how some videos tend to make me doze off! I've learned a great deal from your content, and for that, I extend my heartfelt thanks.

    Thanks for this video, its clear and concise and describes points quickly without ground around the houses! This has really helped me with understanding worksets and how to control what is showing in views, which has been a frustration of mine for sometime, coming from working with a Tekla background to REVIT.

    you mentioned colors of the workset. this is how to make them your own : 1. On the View Control Bar, click Worksharing Display Settings. 2. Click the Worksets tab. 3. Select Show Color for the desired worksets. 4. For each workset, click Color. In the Color dialog, select the color to use and click OK. 5. Click Apply. The specified color for the corresponding workset displays in the model. should work. 🖐

    Best tutorial ever!!!
    your teaching style is amazing keep it up.
    One question though, in a revit exam they asked me to add all exterior doors category and all exterior windows category to a specific workset. I had to pick each exterior door and window manually to place them in that workset. Do you have an effective way to do that and save time?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 года назад +1

      Hmmmmm. Let’s go with doors as an example. Name the exterior doors something unique (add Exterior to Type name). I would isolate doors category in a 3D view. So only doors are on. Then I would create a filter that made all doors go OFF that didn’t have ‘exterior’ in the Type name. Then grab all those and assign to a Workset.
      I’ll make a video! ;)

    Hello, This is a great tutorial. Simple and yes easy to understand. Love it. Can you do a video about Revisions. I tend to do revisions and change the original drawings. Is it possible to make revisions under different phase maybe so i can go back to original in case i need it. Thank you!!

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  3 года назад +1

      Great idea (video about Revisions). I will do it. Also, revisions are a linear timestamp for changes... so I don't think you can CHANGE things to revert back to when a revision was done. It's kind of like a one-way-trip when using Revit.. but we put revision markers on the drawings so the contractor knows what changed from the last drawing he saw.

    Great tutorial, very well done and appreciated. Quick work flow related question however. Now that we have a collaborative work sheet which multiple people can work on (locally if I've understood correctly) would there really not be much point to introducing linked work sets? Seems like this would just introduce computational load unnecessarily when work can be directly done on the local collab file vs linking everything. Unless you are working with a really specific part/model that you don't want to deal with turning off layers, etc. Any insight or experience would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Christian
    P.S. Think blue arrow down is for "DOWN"loaded 😉

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 года назад

      If I understand the question correctly: the reason for a Workset specifically created for linked files to be placed in.. give you the ability to turn it OFF and thus unload the linked files ‘weight’ and helps with file performance.

    Hi, the function of Workset looks like the AutoCAD layer. It is a very handy and powerful function, but personally, I just do not like working in a central file. Any ideal for the 'layer' function but not central?

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 года назад +1

      If you don’t have a central file you do have the use of groups. It’s more cumbersome, but you can put things in groups to turn them on/off. I would go with a central file before I did the groups thing.

    Can we say that the Workset are like Layers in Software like Autocad or Rhinoceros?

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 года назад +1

      Kinda. Yes... worksets work like layers. But I like how you can UNLOAD them and then Revit doesn't even calculate the geometry of their contents!

    Hey Mike, when selecting the link from the project browser, why specifically 'select all in entire project'? I would think that there is only one instance of the link in the project.

    hi, glad to learna lotof detail from your video,
    So, im having issues about worksharing on Revit (mine is v2020,2021), few days ago ive made a central file (with v2020) on a local network (LAN) within central file was at my local drive setup as shared folder and mapped it as \\PC\Central\file.rvt, and everything was fine, everyone work as local file, synch etc..
    but unfortunately, yesterday i tried the same way to create a cental file using v2021, again i made cental within my local drive folder and mapped it as shared (read/write to everyone) but others just cant open it as a local file, the "create new local file" check box was greyed ouy, revit said it was moved or copied to another loc...
    what does it mean??
    i really appreciate if u could help this out, many thanks

    I know this video isn't technically about positioning your links as you bring them into revit, but ive been having difficulty deciding which Positioning option to choose to get my links to align as well as yours did. I've heard varying opinions on which positioning to use, but wanted to know your thoughts? I saw you used Origin to Origin and the links lined up exactly the way they were supposed to, but i've had issues duplicating this. Is it a Survey point issue? is it the way you lined up your initial "workset 1". Would love any insight here as a new Revit-er that has been tasked to find the most efficient way to line up newly linked Revit links into a project.

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  4 месяца назад

      OK.. if the two teams didn't use a link to start working 'in context' with each other.. then you will need to manually move the link into alignment (use grids or face of structure). Once you are certain it is in the right place.. then you can use Shared Coordinates. The files will stay aligned after that.
      My files were aligned because the Structural file linked in the Architecture file and placed the columns in context. Does that make sense?

    Hi , how to turn off workset which are unused when linking to other file ..for example: some walls we put but that all not required as of now may be in future it will require so I will put in workset with name unused ...but when we link that file to other file it's visible..my concern is that should not visible when linking

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  4 месяца назад

      if you select Visibility Graphics (type VG on keyboard) you can go to the Revit Links and control the Worksets that are in the Linked file.

      If it is only happening in one project.. it may be a glitch. so just leave it there in the project and move on. No need to deal with things that slow you down.. unless they are totally getting in the way of productivity. Check to see if this is happening in your other projects.
