Concrete Curb under a Railing (part of railing structure)
You don't need to place a separate curb under a railing. You can actually build the curb directly into the railing family.
This just came up yesterday for an accessible ramp need.

SIGNAGE: Create, Place and Schedule (with Automatic Room Names)

Signage can be a real bear to deal with in Revit if you go totally manual. But if you use the right parameters, and a little bit of family know-how, you can get your schedules to report the Room Names and Numbers. This can save tons of time when things change... WAREHOUSE CONCEPT vs Bloated Template

As we add our 'favorite' items to our templates.. they can quickly grow to an unmanageable size. This concept of using a 'Warehouse' file can dramatically reduce the template size, and thus help your projects start as small as possible. Give it a try. I FOUND A 'GLITCH' IN REVIT: Draw order matters - Go Figure!

Missed you Mike!
Thanks Todd!!! Good to be back. :)
I know this post is 4 years old but man it is relevant today! Thank you!!
You are welcome... and a guy needed one last week.. I showed him this video! :)
Thanks for the great video! That is pretty tricky of Revit requiring you to click on the schedule in the browser to be able to see the editing options. Anywhere else you can just click on the schedule and that menu appears.
Revit sure has some tricks up its sleeve!
Tailor plz we are not kids . . It's an important information 🤖
Can you use filters to hide a plan region view? Example - plan view of 1st floor has a canopy that is only visible by plan region. Would like to turn off the view when not needed.
I don't believe you can control Plan Regions with the filters... you may need to make another identical view without the plan region. :)
thank you Mike. again.
Your videos are the best explanations for Revit! Thank you
thanks alot man, keep posting videos
How come my sign when making component, it stays with hot pink lines and not solid black? Also do you have office hours where ones can pay for your 1 hour of your time for some Revit help?
You may need to change the line colors in the Object Styles dialog area.
Hi , how to turn off workset which are unused when linking to other file ..for example: some walls we put but that all not required as of now may be in future it will require so I will put in workset with name unused ...but when we link that file to other file it's visible..my concern is that should not visible when linking
if you select Visibility Graphics (type VG on keyboard) you can go to the Revit Links and control the Worksets that are in the Linked file.
Hi Mike, how can I change the Revision Number to start with A and followed by numeric i.e. 1, 2 etc. Thanks in advance.
Yes. Go to the Revision settings and you will see a button for 'Customized Numbering'.
Appreciated, Mike.
It was a very clear and very useful explanation.Cheers
Mike, I just wanted to say thank you to you as I have decided I wanted to learn Revit after over 20 years of using AutoCad and your videos have helped me immensely, especially for someone whom is doing this all on their own!
😂😂😂😂 funny you are
thanks a lot ! 22:17 was life saving for me
Yes.. being able to control Workset BEFORE you open a file is so valuable!!!
An entertaining teacher, thanks for the help and keep up the good work.
The delivery style of the Revit tutorials is exceptional.!!!
Great teacher. One of the best in Revit to explain. He make it so fun.
Dear Mike, Thank You for this and for all Your Revit videos. They are pure gold. Greetings from Serbia
Thanks! Life is short, make it count. I hope you are you are doing well in Serbia!
Hello sir, thank you for the very helpful video. i'd like to ask you if there is a known way to restore the back up file deleted by revit . what i mean is , if the maximum is 3 backup files, and the folder contains 5 backup files, then Revit deletes the oldest 2 backup files, and is there a way to restore those files. Thanks
No there is not. If you set your backups to 3.. it will overwrite the first one when you hit save the forth time. So set it to 20! :)
If you make the total number a type parameter, I imagine you only get to change it at one place.
correct! I guess I should have done that... or just put text on the Titleblock and remember to edit it when you print.
Thanks for a really good explanation. I did what you should not…it would be nice if someone did a flow diagram of the process. Probably not needed after your explanation. Insertion points are my next worry. I am doing a piping drawing and have been asked to upload my drawing to bim 360, so how do I fix the insertion point?
Your team could use Shared Coordinates.. and that will align the files. But if the files are already started and not aligned.. you will need to align them (move the link) into position and then pin it.. any updates will be in context. And then you an initiate Shared Coordinates if you wanted to at that time.
Thanks for sharing
how i change the size of the label?
You can Edit the Type properties. Be sure to duplicate first so you then have a new one to edit and not change the first one (if you need 2). :)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You make things easy to make. Your videos disconnect us from daily routine. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks. Sometimes our daily routine can get monotonous.. I like to shake it up a bit. And actually.. I'm optimistic (joyful) most of the time.
Thanks, that's a clear and helpful demonstration.
I know this video isn't technically about positioning your links as you bring them into revit, but ive been having difficulty deciding which Positioning option to choose to get my links to align as well as yours did. I've heard varying opinions on which positioning to use, but wanted to know your thoughts? I saw you used Origin to Origin and the links lined up exactly the way they were supposed to, but i've had issues duplicating this. Is it a Survey point issue? is it the way you lined up your initial "workset 1". Would love any insight here as a new Revit-er that has been tasked to find the most efficient way to line up newly linked Revit links into a project.
OK.. if the two teams didn't use a link to start working 'in context' with each other.. then you will need to manually move the link into alignment (use grids or face of structure). Once you are certain it is in the right place.. then you can use Shared Coordinates. The files will stay aligned after that. My files were aligned because the Structural file linked in the Architecture file and placed the columns in context. Does that make sense?
cant find the folder worksharing (i have a student version) does that means I dont have any back up? I've been also working always withan usb
The student version must not allow Worksharing... and neither does the Lite version.
Will the sheets in a linked consultant model be manageable in the primary model's Project Browser?, and will Revit create Sheet List(s) from linked consultant models?
no and yes. No to the ability to manage the sheets in the linked file from the primary model's Project Browser. You can't even see their sheets. Yes to making a schedule that will 'mine' the data from the linked file. You can pull all the information you need from the linked file (sheet number, sheet name, etc.).
@@miketaylor8211 So one can created a Sheet List of linked consultant sheets? Which is usually all that's needed - thank you
@@garagedancer122 Yes... there is a little checkbox on the schedule creation dialog for 'including linked files'. This brings any data with the same parameter from the link into your schedule!
simple and informative, great video
thank u so much for your help!!
CAN THE CENTRAL FILE BE SAVED IN THE GOOGLE OR ONE DRIVE?
yes it can. I don't advise it because you will have some issues with latency (lag) but I've seen people actually do this. Best way to work is on BIM360 (now called ACC).
Thank you so much, Mr. Taylor; you saved the day; greetings from Guadalajara.
Thanks Alexander! I hope your building has best downspouts in the whole Guadalajara!!! Many Blessings to you!
Hi Mike , Your Revit Vedios are all very helpful , Would you please allow me to have your contact phone number to have conversation with you , as I am Toronto, Canada and I need to learn from you please? a. How can I convert AutoCAD HVAC file into Revit HVAC file
You can link the AutoCAD file into Revit and use it there.. but there isn't a way to actually 'covert' the dwg file into a Revit file.
