Just have to remember that every time you tow something...you are guaranteed to remember this after you or other damages a very expensive tailgate.... If GMC/Chevy were smart like a Tesla, the vehicle already knows it's towing and would automatically lock out the top tailgate to prevent tailgate damage. Now that would be a good user/human friendly safe design...
Sir your shoes does not match your outfit… Also why did they engineer the tailgate gate to where you have to press and hold for 3 sec to lock it, why not have separate button on top mechanically locked and unlocked when you need to use it?
@@elihammond2503 I use it as a step all the time. It makes climbing in and out of the back of my truck much easier. I will drop the inner gate as well when just reaching for stuff in the back. It gets you closer and makes it easier to reach your load. I also use the load stop feature quite a bit too. I admit, it seemed gimmicky at first, but it has proven to be very useful- kind of like power windows, power locks, and power seats. While they aren't absolutely necessary, they are very convenient.
@@elihammond2503 A couple of useful aspects: With the tailgate down and the top portion lower (but the step still folded up) the cut out portion allows you to stand closer to the bed to reach in. Another that I really like is that with my standard size bed I can have the tailgate down and open only the step portion and it acts as a flat vertical stop at the end of the tailgate just as another piece of mind to prevent my motorcycles or 8' lumber in the bed from being able to slide out (if you're parked on a slope or something while strapping things down).
I am curious if they couldn’t just use the back-up camera to detect the objects that could interfere with the tailgate operation and auto lock-out that portion of it. A similar concept to the lock-out mechanism that prevents minivans from opening the sliding door when refueling.
If you use you’re truck for truck things you don’t need this, a normal tailgate works and has worked just fine for 80+ years and will continue to work for another 80+ years assuming that we’re still allowed to have trucks that get low gas mileage/run on gas in 80 years. This is just another point of potential failure added to an already unreliable gm pickup.

My father borrows it every once in a while when its not hooked up to our trailers. And being frank with you I've noticed I have pushed this truck harder then the most if not all I've had previously. And not one breakdown. (as surprising as it is.) And I've had a good buddy with dodges too.
@@thedornanfam-blogsplusmore8510 You mean a Fiat or Toyota
Better solution: don't buy a Chevy or GMC product. That will also solve a host of other problems as well.
Amen.
The multi flex tailgate is what sold me on GM over the competition. That and the 3.0L Duramax.
You’re a tool if a simple tailgate sold you on a truck.
@@AlMai222 i mean he did also say the engine….😂
sounds like you have a ridiculously small brain lmao
@@AlMai222 GM is the best, soooooooo
Help us out here. What have you used that tiny gate for?
Useless
Sir your shoes does not match your outfit…
Also why did they engineer the tailgate gate to where you have to press and hold for 3 sec to lock it, why not have separate button on top mechanically locked and unlocked when you need to use it?
My preferred solution:
Buy a ford
i would not like to replace a part every day
Maybe it's useful, but seems really gimmicky. But I know plenty of people who are totally sucked in by useless gimmicks like that.
I love my multipro tailgate. I use it almost daily.
I dented one
I agree. It probably gets the most use out of all the features as far as convenience goes
What scenarios do you use it in i could see a couple but it really just seems like a gimmick and something else that can break genuinely curious
I had one of those pieces of junk the tailgate would work when it felt like it and the backup camera had the resolution of a 1960's Soviet era camera
Does anyone actually use those features? I just open and close mine..I don’t need a step or a built in cooler
I used to for loading a dirtbike
i use it for loading stuff and i had a 12 foot ladder once so i stuck it out and if it was there why would people not use it
I am curious if they couldn’t just use the back-up camera to detect the objects that could interfere with the tailgate operation and auto lock-out that portion of it. A similar concept to the lock-out mechanism that prevents minivans from opening the sliding door when refueling.
It would be easier to just not allow that portion to open if a trailer is connected
The amazing part is a GMC actually towing something.
great tip!!
May as well be a Bentley. It’s price tag is now out of reach for most Americans. But really, thanks !
The bigger problem is 20% of the trucks the inner gate stops functioning at all. I wish they left the handle(s)
You got that stat from where? Don’t know anyone that has the multipro tailgate that has had that issue. Have had 2 AT4’s and neither had the issue.
@@ThreeBattRanger dealership mentioned it and my gate is one of them.
@@dusdroadadventures7978 i think your making that up because your jealous that your ford died again :D
I'll stick to the old fashioned open and close without it being electronic
GM needs to work on their rust problems first .
what rust problems most of these come with a bed liner and a bed mat
Ya I prefer a good old fashion tailgate with out all the moving parts!
When a modern "convenience" isn't.
Exactly.
mad cuz u cant afford and it makes life way easier bud trust start investing :D
Not good enough I want an app to control my tailgate with my phone from a mile away . Give it to me now. I will go crazy without it.
I also want a screen in my gate so I can watch tv as I work. And refrigerated cup holders too.
.Seriously, this tailgate alone costs more to replace than my entire Nissan pickup is worth.
I have one & I still don't understand. Why would you open the little & then the entire unit? Why not just *open the tailgate* & you're ahead of the issue/pressing buttons.
Or just don’t design something so stupid. I’ve been a Chevy guy all my life but Chevy engineers made them look hideous now, I’ll buy Ford.
A solution to a question that NOBODY asked! This will break as soon as you’re out of warranty. Just stupid.
RAM has the best tailgate with the barn door option. I say that as a super duty owner. And this is just terrible and overly complicated. So dumb.
I wonder what that tailgate cost to replace? $4,000? More? Over-Engineered.
GMC secret feature: transmission goes up before 100k miles!
mine died at 250k so idk what yall talkin about
It will hit ball mount as well. Best idea is don't create answers to problems that don't exist. Oh. Ever mine that tailgate seat is needed while waiting for tow truck
