I feel the same about my 2002 2500HD Silverado 8.1. 280k and the seats are still the best I have ever sat in. If I could buy another one brand new I would do it today.
It's refreshing to hear an unbiased commentary about trucks especially GM's trucks which totally tend to piss me off I worked for them for over 25 years and watch them decline in quality, but the honesty of this person is what's valuable because I know vehicles and this man speaks in terms that makes sense and that are relevant to a purchase of a vehicle, keep up the good work.
I guess everybody has different ideas about seats, but I find them very comfortable in my 23 High Country. Just drove to Key West and back, which is 1001 miles each way, with no problem. As for fuel mileage, I averaged 31.8 for the trip.
I have a 3 L Duramax Silverado and love it. I have gotten 36 miles a gallon on the highway. I agree the seats are not comfortable but I bought Kat skins leather seats covers and had the shop put additional foam on the bolster and bottom to give it more cushion.
I had a new '18 F150 Lariat 3.0 Powerstroke. I loved the truck. I only sold it because I bought a motorhome instead of a pull behind. I loved that I got 30mpg on the highway and had torque for days. I didn't have a lot of payload due to the fact that it had every option, including the panoramic roof. I'd probably go with a Powerboost hybrid if I bought anther 1/2 ton. My next truck will likely be an F450 Limited. Plan to get out of the MH and into a TH. When I sold the F150, I got $44k for it. I paid $46k. Drove it 2 years and 18k miles for $2k.
I have a 2022 Tahoe duramax and I am amazed at the mpg, averaging 22 mpg for 6500 miles-half and half city/highway. Best mpg I got was 33.2 on the highway, absolutely amazed
@@aaronbritt2025 Nothing Fird offers gets the mpgs these 3.0Ls get. Nor do they tow like the diesel. Ford never should have stopped their 1/2 ton diesels.
The seat bottoms on my 2021 SLT are too narrow and are uncomfortable. Our Honda CRV costing $20,000 less are FAR more comfortable! GM are you listening? Or do their executives drive anything but their own products!
Interesting, we have been looking at the GMC Sierra Denali and Chevy SilveradoZR2 and I have been questioning my wife’s complaint about the uncomfortable seats in the Sierra. She hasn’t stopped raving about the comfort of the seats in the Silverado.
@@paulkinder6053 Seriously, it's like they used the cheapest, stiffest foam they could find on these seats. I've honestly considered trying to find someone to take my seats apart and rebuild them with a good quality foam..so that we can actually go on trips without me needing a full day to recover from the seat torture
I have 11k Miles on my 2023 1500 denali and I love it ! From fort lauderdale to ellijay gorgia with one fuel tank. I have no complaints about the seats. As far as towing I pull a open trailer with my race car sometime I forget is even there unless a look at the display has no effort pulling 73k lbs my overall is worth every penny.
Just FYI for your viewers...In my research you cannot get the Max Tow Package (NHT) on the Denali. Highest NHT trim on a GM 1500 is GMC Sierra SLT and Chevy Silverado High Country.
I have a 2022 GMC Sierra SLT and I'll have to say I like the seats. I have always liked the firmest seats I could get, same with mattresses. It is all up to personal taste. I am old enough to remember in the 70's through the 80's when the auto press lambasted GM for seats that were too soft and held Mercedes up as the standard. By the way those seats were very firm too.
I make this commute every single day all the way to Portland! I’ve been considering the same truck for a while now. The MPG you mentioned made up my mind up, and the seat situation helped with the trim I’ll probably go with. Good to see a local RUclipsr…
I'd say see if you could find some Denali Ultimate massaging seats from a junkyard. Trucks that are totaled will sometimes have the seats still in perfect condition. I don't know if you would be able to hook up the massage part in the truck you have, but I think the softness of the seats would be worth the switch regardless. Hopefully your reviews of the truck will help GMC to change to a more comfortable seat.
I believe the issue with oil consumption is that other Chanel’s have shown it. So it is a issue but not every truck. The problem is GMC has written a BS disclaimer saying it’s normal to consume excessive amounts of oil. They have done this to get them out of replacing engines under warranty. I should know because I work for a dealer and that’s exactly what the manufacturer did. In a attempt to cover up a engine defect.
I just put a down payment on a 2023 Chevy 1500 LT, Crew Cab, Standard Bed, 3.0 Duramax Turbo-Diesel, 4X4, Safety Package with 360 cameras, Connectivity & Tech Package, Performance & Mechanical Package. MSRP $62K with rebates, discounts and tax, out the door $54K at Phillips Chevrolet - I got one of the last LX with the 3.0 Diesel and loaded with multiple packages that was left in the Chevy inventory. I'm driving from Florida to pick this bad boy up and God I got a great deal. Call Jordan Jurgovan, he took care of me and I can't wait to pick up the truck in the next 10-14 days.
A friend just bought this truck in a '24 model after EXTENSIVELY driving ALL of the competition. She really hadn't even considered a GMC or Chevy but the truck won her over. Mid-level trim out the door including all fees except registration $62,000. A lot of money but a fair price today. Build quality is exceptional! Much better than the competition I haven't heard any complaints about the seats.
I just got mine last Saturday and I love it. Mine is the 2023 Chevrolet 1500 LTZ with the 3.0. Diesel.I love it more than the 2019 LTZ with the 5.3. Gas!
I test drove a Tahoe with the diesel a few months ago, nice truck. Those seats are just like my current Tahoe LTZ, firm! I can drive my Tahoe for 6 hours, I am ready to get out of that seat. Yet, I have a 2018 Ram 3500 dually, Limited, crew cab, LB that I have driven from NC to Fl keys towing my boat, 16 hour trip in one day. I wasn't sore from the seats, neither was my wife.
Other RUclips presenters have said the same thing about GM truck seats. The rest of the world have diesel engines in their light duty trucks. I’m not sure why that’s not a standard here. Given the fuel economy it should be a no brainer. I have a V6 Toyota Tacoma. It gets reasonable fuel economy. The rest of the world gets the Toyota Hilux with a 4 cylinder turbo diesel. I’m sure that truck gets much better fuel economy. It also has a much higher payload and tow capacity. Modern diesel engines and trucks go together very well and should be a standard.
Informative video. I have a 2021 Silverado LTZ with a Duramax 3.0 L. Not sure if it has the same exact seats that your GMC has, but I feel the seats are uncomfortable also. I have a 2011 Nissan Titan that I use for work during the week and it has much more comfortable seats that my Silverado. When I first started driving my Chevy I thought that I didn't have the seats in the correct position for my body. I've adjusted the seat to every possible position and I can't seem to get it to feel as comfortable as my Titans seats.
Excellent review. I thought that the seat issue was only mine, but it is nice to know that others are having the same issue with these painful seats. They are ridiculously hard, narrow slippery and unsupportive of me and my body type. Putting a cushion on them changes the seating and driving position and that bothers me. I am thinking of turning this truck in due to the pain in my back and especially my bottom that develops even with short drives.
Nice honest review - for context, I get similar city mileage in 22' hybrid f-150 when NOT towing, and gas is cheaper than diesel, and no DEF. When towing, I get terrible mileage, and sure the diesel GMC does better. Payload in my f-150 hybrid is 1,611 pounds and the price for mine in Aug. 2022 was 57,000. Added perk with the hybrid is I can power my camper and house up to 7,200 watts. Pros and cons to both but wanted to chime in on the mileage piece as there are other options than diesel for decent non-towing mileage.
Like driving with you in the area while reviewing. For me personally 75k + tax + insurance + maintenance for a 1/2 ton truck is for others not me. Nice truck but just not practical for "the great white north". Salt, winters, junk cars and trucks with no regards as to your investment, bad roads, yada, yada. Enjoyed the review as always & thanks for the drive on smooth road surfaces I can only dream of. Ocean view very nice.
If you plan to keep the truck for the long haul, do your oil change every 5 K miles with full synthetic oil. Engine air and fuel filter every 10K miles.
I live in Wyoming and I have the 2024 Silverado 1500 LT with the 3.0 Duramax. Mine is a 4x4, has the max trailering package. I get 30 - 36.5 MPG on the highway, 55 MPG in the mountains, and in town I get between 24 and 28 mpg in the city. I paid $54,126 for mine. Mine is a crew cab, has all the tech and it's great. I'm used to the seats because the company I work for has 3500 HD 6.6 L Duramax work Trucks. I much prefer my heated seats and steering wheel to the WT model. I have had zero issues towing. I got 20 MPG on the interstate with an empty trailer and at 3,000 pounds I got between 15 and 18 MPG towing in head winds. I have zero complaints about my LT.
@@icare7151 ride comfort for the majority of people that buy a full size truck to do what a honda civic could do. putt putt to work and home, even the grocery store some times.
I have a 22 refresh AT4 (after having my Denali order cancelled by GM at the time - took what I could find). I regularly pull a 24' enclosed (~7800lbs) and I do wish I had a max tow spec (+LZ0 would be a bonus). I think the max tow package would be beneficial for what I'm towing. I also think the AT4 suspension degrades the towing experience a bit more. It's a big softer from what I understand which isn't what you want for towing. It's not horrible but the max tow pkg would make a much more solid package for towing what I'm towing. Overall pretty happy though.
We have a 2021AT4 and we love it. Pulls our trailers with SXS around without any effort. Had a 26' camp trailer and it was a bit scary. I agree about the suspension. 4000lbs vs 7000lbs makes a difference. Still love the truck.
I work in Nashville, TN, stop and go traffic for an hour every afternoon, and I still get 27-28 mpg with approximately 700 miles per tank on a 2020 Sierra SLT with the 3.0, not a fan of the seats either. I use a purple seat cushion.
Greetings! I purchased a half ton last year. I was between a GM Denali diesel and a Ford F150 Hybrid. I went back and forth because I liked both and wanted good mileage. After sitting down and figuring it out I went with the F150 hybrid. Here is one of two reasons: I figured like you said you got, 32 highway, 28MPG for the Denali city. I own a heavy trailer so I would have required that heavy tow package. Here was the problem, Diesel in my area is right now $3.30/gal at best price. DEF is running $9.98 for 2.5 gallons ($4/gal). According to the information I was given, it takes 1.75 gallons of DEF per 100 gallons of diesel fuel. That comes to 12.03 cents a mile. Highway cost comes to about 10.53 cents at with 32mpg. Then I was told that was a minimal DEF usage- not towing. The usage would go way up if towing which seems to be confirmed by owners, "Our '21 Denali used about 20 gallons of DEF in a 1200 mile trip pulling a 7000 lb travel trailer. Our DEF consumption without pulling seems to be minimal" (from the Duramax Four,um). ($80 DEF) but others report different results. It is hard to pin down cost per mile as the usage varies. Overall the actual savings comes about to be very similar. The F150 Hybrid was an unknown. No one seemed to know what it would do when I asked. So, I figured it would at least get what a regular 3.5 Eco would get plus a bit. One report came out really low and another said they got 24mpg in testing on highway. That made since as it was about the same as the regular model. Gas in my area best price is $2.99/gal. So, at 24mpg the F150 would cost about 12.4 cents a gallon. This floored me. I owned two diesel cars in the past and liked the better mileage but neither one took DEF. I ordered the Ford. I get 24mpg on the highway and about 21-22 in town (it varies a lot) Towing my 7000# trailer I get 12mpg. I am not sure, like many about what is going to be the norm i a few years. I knew I could not order the electric one as it required too much charging in its towing range to be reasonable in my opinion. Now I hear they are going to iron phosphate batteries to make the EVs cheaper to buy but with a shorter range. Duh! We will have to see what unfolds for the consumer who needs a truck!
I would love to see a long term review of a Chevy LTZ or GMC SLT short box crew cab baby duramax with Max Tow package. Really interested to see how much one could reliably tow and what the lowered geared rear end does to drivability and fuel milage.
My dad's got the high courtry 1ton. Did a long day trip wi th him, (model yr 2018) I hate the seats compared to those in my P4x Nissan with luxury package.
GM adds an additional quart of oil in the new 3.0 L, LZO at the factory because the oil consumption is normal in the first 5000 mile break in period as the rings get properly seated in the engine block , if it continues much after that it definitely could be a warranty issue ! Looks like the Corpus Christi , Tx.area from the video ?
I had custom leather seat covers made for mine and it makes a huge difference. They look factory. Wish I could remember the name of the company. I averaged 42.5 mpg on one trip. Great truck
I drove to Bakersfield (100) miles round trip..twice I looked at this truck then research it than changed my mind and then bought the 2500hd sierra at4 ,,about the same price and way more
I have heard about the seat complaints a few times . I am not brand loyal . I have a 2020 Ram longhorn Ecodiesel and love everything about it. Looking for a diesel replacement only because I want a new vehicle. The things that keep me away from Gm are the Ram interior and the Rambox . I love to have all the tiedowns, trailer hitches ,tools easy access and out of sight. Gm had similar with avalanche which I loved so ??? My Ram gets equally as good of fuel economy but GM is the only player and I think it has a great engine.
The seats are the ONLY reason I didn’t buy a GMC 1500 with the baby Duramax earlier this year. I had a 2022 Chevrolet 2500 High County Duramax and absolutely hated the seats and didn’t need that large of a truck so decided to get into a new 1500. I test drove the 2023 GMC’s and the seats were identical to my 22 Chevrolet seats. Everything else about the truck is good. Because of the seats I decided to trade my Chevy in for a Ram. Drove 6 hours straight to the dealership and my back/legs were killing me when I got there. I immediately got in the new Ram and drove the 6 hours back and my back and legs felt fine. I can’t stress enough that the seats suck! I’ve bought new GMC/Chevy trucks every year or two since 2006 and will not buy again until they fix this issue. They just need to use the previous generation seats (those were great). I’m a normal size/weight 42 year old man )6’ 200lbs) so I should be able to get comfortable.
I agree with you about the seats, I’ve sat on wooden benches that felt better. They are the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat on, I don’t know who approved them for production
One silver lining: The hard seats do seem to push the ac vent air where I can feel it, where the comfortable ford seats are so soft it seems to me that my back seats off the vent holes and they don’t cool me off as good as the hard GM seats. I sure do miss my 3.0 z71. I have the 6.2 sierra SLT now and it is sure a gas guzzler on that expensive premium gas! Miss my 3.0. We have it in my wife’s Yukon XL though!
@@PoppaWheelies Temporary insanity and watched too many RUclips videos / spent the summer overthinking. I traded it and traded several times. Would have been best off keeping it. And never starting truckathon 2024. The 3.0 is an awesome engine and the truck was great.
I have Silverado trail boss 3.0 and my complaints is , the seat really uncomfortable, no 12 volt cigarette, the trasmision dawnshift jump and clunk sometimes
Although I didn’t see your video, reviewing the seats in your truck. I recently watched a video of a guy showing the interior of his newer Chevy pick up truck and I could tell the seats were different than in the past. Chevy/Gmc trucks had some great seats probably the best for full-size trucks made from about 2001 to about 2017. I don’t know why manufactures make changes to great products. The Subaru outback is the same way.
I have (2) 1997 Nissan pickups, 4 cylinder, regular bed. I paid $2400 7 years ago for one...and $1200 for the other (blown engine). Granted I no longer need to tow and I use it to get to Lowes daily and pick up wood to build my adirondack style furniture.I have NEVER had a payment. It has air condition, is comfortable and NO PAYMENT. EVER. I get 17 mpg and in 7 years I have put in a new radiator $46 and did it in my front yard and did a front brake job $98. It now has 160,000 miles on it and is just broke in. Insurance? $34/month full coverage, (Geico). As an older guy I appreciate the ease I get into the damn thing...I don't climb into it...I just step in...and its easy to park, fun to drive. Great video..I no longer pull my horses, (thank God) and if I did I probably would go for the GMC.
My 2014 RAM 1500 Limited seats were so much better the my 2021 GMC 1500 AT4. I drove to Florida (8 hours) and i was crippled when I got there. UNREAL! Not sure what to do! I love the truck..
When I wrecked my 2023 Santa Fe, I was immediately told to go pickup my rental. The rental was the GMC 2500 Sierra SLT. Was such a beautiful truck. It was a gas engine and no clue what size engine. The gas milage sucked. Nonetheless, I was sad to take it back after about a month. Few months the later I ditched the Santa Fe and am sitting in the 2024 GMC 1500 Duramax turbo diesel 3.0 x31. Looks just like that 2500 but gas milage is awesome compared to that 2500. Biggest complaints for me with this truck especially at the 55k I got it for, the seats okay, they are so stiff lol. So don't feel like you're the only one. It's funny because I was thinking they just gotta get broken in, however after this video I can see thats hopeless. Lol Second issue is exactly what you liked. The tech is clunky to say the least. It's not intuitive at all, mine is okay on speed, but wth is up with these profiles. Somehow, every time I go to get into my truck the seat smashes me against the wheel and I have to stop it. If that's not enough then every time I get in and start it up I have set my dam Bluetooth to connect again. Some times I can simply select it from my Bluetooth on my phone, some times I have to delete that connection from my phone to re pair with it. Every time the darn thing says either guest profile or new user. So I have either missed something there or it's just not well thoughtout. Every other car either recognizes the driver profile based off the seat selection as you get in, or it simply remains at the last spot it was profile wise before it got shut down. But as of now I feel its stuck in demo mode. The last two are pretty straight forward in terms of why, this size of vehicle should have the blind spot Cam. In my honda when I put on my right blinker the big screen pops up instantly and clear as can be and refresh rate is super high so no problem using it in traffic and whenever.most importanly I can see right down the right hand side of the car. It's so much more relaxing and safe feeling to drive with that feature. And as well as it being freely used. Like I push the old cruise control button spot and bam there it is. Or just turn on my right blinker and bam there it is. So, yeah that should of been a no brainer there. The final one is that the seats have heated seats ok, but no cooling. Would of been so nice to have cooling seats . None of these would keep me from purchasing the truck again however. We'll maybe the dam seats comfort level lol...but the tech I'll get used to it I'm sure, and the missing safety features is not the end of all things as we all are used to not us8ng that blind spot cam but once you have it you get spoiled. Anyways, I do love the truck however. This 3.0 is nice too.
Have a 2020 GMC. Has same interior as the 22s. I can’t argue that the new Tundra has better seats. They’re slightly larger and padded on the front. Im amazed they took the 12v outlets on that truck. Glad I have them.
My 2023 TrailBoss LT Duramax is awesome I average 34 mpg on the freeway not towing or hauling. It’s super comfortable. I am very leery of how the engine costs will be down the road but I will get a EV truck soon as there is a decent size bed.
should be getting my gmc elevation this week.i pull a boat .maybe 2100-2300 lbs.I,m thinking it will do a fantastic job for me.also looking forward to the fuel economy
Hopefully they fixed some issues. Mine has been leaking oil for the last 10k miles and I’m at 36k miles and it’s still leaking. Sad about it because I love the torque and mpg….but they fix one leak and it still keeps leaking…..goes to the dealer for 1-2 weeks at a time.
The seats are one of the main reasons I chose a tundra over the Chevy. The seats felt cheap and narrow. The back seat was so plain. The kicker was that the passenger seat wasn’t power. I know it seems petty but if I’m paying that much I want as many features as I can get.
By farMy biggest complaint is that they didn't put a damn 12 volt outlet. Preferably in the cubby, on the front, but at least one anywhere would have been better.
Hey! I really like the seats. I have a 2023 Denali with a 3L LZO and I agree with everything else you said but I like my seats. I drove from Manitoba to Alabama and back I love my truck!
2020 rst towing pkg Inc 2 wheel drive 54,000 $ 34 35 mpg 25to 27 mpg towing 2000lb boat 50,ooo miles now no problem thus far loving the truck ps no need for 4 wd florida❤
People complaining about price. Premium trucks costs premium money. You can still get an RST or elevation well under 60k. And as far as buying used , a 4-5 yr old truck. Depreciation comes when you trade it in. The dealer will put up to 10k on that price with a considerable interest rate and an aftermarket warranty that you have to purchase.
Interesting comments about the seats. My Chev (a few years older) has much more comfortable seats than my Ford. My #1 reason to get rid of the Ford is the seats. Can't wait until I can move on to another vehicle. I guess I will have to spend more time checking out seats before I make that jump. Thanks for your opinions.
Just wondering what you consider a marginally sized trailer? I’m looking at purchasing a trailer dry weight 5880 lbs and gvwr of 8000lbs, and just wondering how capable this truck would be with the max towing package hauling such a trailer? Thx
I would love to trade for one, but I only have an 8 mile commute, and I just know that the diesel would never even reach full operating temperature on that short trip. That would also contribute to emission system issues. If I had a 25+ mile commute, I'd definitely buy one.
For what it’s worth I have a 2020 at4 with the 3.0 and have about the same commute. I do try and get it out and hot on the weekends, just running around with the family and such and haven’t had any issues. I purchased the banks idash and was concerned at first, but then I observed how and when it went into regen and it never has a problem, even if I shut it off mid cycle it just picks right back up on regen when I turn it back on.
I totally agree I have a fully loaded 23 GMC 1500 AT4 & cannot stand the seats. I said once & I will say it again FORD has the best seats in the industry no matter if it’s a car or truck.
It seems like the big issue is with the comfort of the seats ! Do you want seats comparable to your living room recliner ? You would be asleep at the wheel my friend. Man up ! With fuel prices these days I would sit on a milk crate to get the mileage you get. I have a 22 AT4 with the same engine and have seen up to 36 mpg !
Shouting out that 28mpg in the city is history in the making, for a 1/2 ton truck. Can’t wait to see diesel over electric and see what kind of numbers for mpg we get then…
The Ford seats are the most plush IMO. I have a Ram 2500 Limited Longhorn and the seats are good but the Ford's are more comfortable. Can't speak to the Chevy's.
That fuel economy is pretty insane. I pull though - and I also daily a Jeep so I'm not concerned with the fuel economy. But I will tell you I get 25 MPG between OKC and Tulsa in my Cummins unloaded.
Last thing - I put a seat cushion in my truck and jeep because I have the boniest butt on the planet and I don't want to leave marks in my seat haha. I have a link to a really good seat cushion if you're interested. Very comfortable.
That's awesome, I had a tough time decided between GMC & Ram ultimately I went with the comfort seats on the Ram & slightly better fuel economy. I do love the engine response on the GMC though cant go wrong with either one honestly 👍
The GMCs are just better well rounded luxury trucks and look the part. Their functionality and intuitiveness truly sets them apart. They make it so easy to drive them, work with them - pretty much everything. I think this refresh was a “yea ok we’ll update the interiors and play the glitz and glam game w/ RAM but they’ll lose and as long as you pay…” and GM customers have showed they will pay for the nicer things. The response to the refreshed trucks has been amazing. So I’m almost afraid for Ford & RAM of what the next gen *gm* trucks will be bringing.
@G-Rated that's a beautiful opinion. But it's just that, an opinion. It's not facts. Everyone has their own feelings on what makes the best truck. Every manufacturer has its good and bad qualities. It's up to the buyer to decide what suits them the best.
@@nathanbillingsley42 I’m not even sure why you felt the need to even make this comment. I’m fully aware of my opinion being an “opinion”. I never said it was a fact. My opinion has not changed not even a little bit tho. It _is_ a fact that the *gm* trucks have the most intuitive interiors, the most innovative features, and best forms of functionality. Ford and RAM can’t compete with the Multi-Pro tailgate, the double function power side steps, the infotainment system experience, Supercruise while towing, etc. There are several key features on the GM trucks that make life easier that you won’t even find in the competition. _That’s_ what’s factual and ain’t just someone’s opinion, so that’s sorta what I was getting at. Their next generation of trucks will be an issue for Ford and RAM for sure, that’s my opinion based upon *the facts.* 🤷🏾♂️
@G-Rated I made my post because I disagree with yours. Gm was behind Ram in technology for years. My original post was to tell the poster that the pedal monster can help with throttle response. If you read the original post you replied to, it says the person chose a Ram because to him, it was more comfortable. Also the multipro tailgate is the worst tailgate option in the truck industry. Again my opinion.
I wish Ford kept the 3.0 powerstroke. I am not a big fan of GM trucks because of the features it is missing. That 3.0 duramax is convincing but at the end I ended up going for a 3.5L F150 King Ranch, my favorite trim of all truck trims/designs
Thanks for the information. Mainly was curious about the 3.0 duramax. I recently got in touch with one of the dealers I work for sister stores to drive one or two with the 3.0 and started shopping around. For awhile was tempted to get a super duty or full size trucks but I don’t really need one. Unless I happen to find one I like with certain features. Either way good to know about the quirks.
I just really wish they would allow you to order this engine in a standard cab/long bed. Especially in the WT trim level but any trim level would honestly be fine. I don't like/have a need for any larger than a single cab and have no need for any fancy features. The rubber floor/vinyl seat/bare bones interior is what I like. Eh, maybe in 10-15 years I can do a swap with a used engine/used truck.
I was looking at the max tow package for my next GM 1/2 ton. But in the current model years, you lose the two speed transfer case with that package. I guess it is max towing unless you get the trailer stuck. I’ll stick with the lower tow capacity to get a t-case that has low range.
Most seats Ive been testing are horrible... Chevy Ford Dodge and Tundra... uncomfortable! Only the pro 4x titan had seats like im used... the platinum reserve is softer but that means the vented seats are less effective.
Great vid, good coverage of a lot of topics! As it relates to the oil consumption you spoke of, can you speak a little to your break in/driving behavior? Elevation, geography, etc not withstanding. Thanks again
I'll never understand why GM didn't keep seats similar to the '99 - '06 models. Still the most comfortable seats of any vehicle I've ever had
100%. My 2002 Suburban had the best suspension and seats that I have ever owned...
I feel the same about my 2002 2500HD Silverado 8.1. 280k and the seats are still the best I have ever sat in. If I could buy another one brand new I would do it today.
Absolutely agree
I agree 100%. My 2006 silverado was like driving as couch down the street.
I totally agree on that!! I had a 2001 silverado HD 2500 and they were more comfortable!!!

Great review. It is always good to hear honest perspective from an owner. No sugar coating just what you think of everything positive and negative.
If the seats are horrible, a good upholstery shop can remove the seat cover, replace the foam with something softer and reinstall the seat cover.
spend 80K and then have the seats re-done ?
@@goneridingparts I would've bought a Ford.
@@aaronbritt2025 Nothing Fird offers gets the mpgs these 3.0Ls get. Nor do they tow like the diesel. Ford never should have stopped their 1/2 ton diesels.
@@robedmund9948 I had an '18 F150 Lariat Diesel. I loved it.
I've put over 50,000 miles on mine, and i still hate my seats. I keep telling myself that it'll soften up over time, but honestly, i doubt it.
Believe the worst part about the seats, is the cost of the vehicle. Feel like I’m getting ripped off.
@@Eyore82 Would like know the end result.
General Motors lover here. Thanks for the honest review. Corpus Christi baby!!
I always find in general cloth seats are more comfortable than leather seats but if you want a fancy model you generally have to get the leather.
For some reason, you cannot get NHT with LZ0 any longer, either. Glad I got mine when I did.
I read somewhere that GM has stated that the NHT with the LZ0 will return with the '24s.
Your in Corpus! The massive bridge gave it away.
In the 70s a pick up was around 5 thousand cheaper than cars, now although very luxurious they’re out of reach, for most people
A friend just bought this truck in a '24 model after EXTENSIVELY driving ALL of the competition.
I’m one of those who likes the seats on my 2023 RST 3.0. Particularly on longer drives.
Improvements I would like to see:
1. Rear Coil Springs
2. 4 Corner Air Bag Suspension
3. Improved Seats
rear coils are awful for anyone who actually works their trucks.

The firm seats are perfect for my bad back.
I went from a 21 Denali hd to a 23 Denali 1500 and I don’t miss the hd at all. The ride is amazing compared to the hd and so is the mpg.
My 2020 Denali 3.0 has great seats! My back will definitely let me know if they aren't a good fit for me.
I work in Nashville, TN, stop and go traffic for an hour every afternoon, and I still get 27-28 mpg with approximately 700 miles per tank on a 2020 Sierra SLT with the 3.0, not a fan of the seats either. I use a purple seat cushion.
From my research the factory adds another quart of oil for break in. You may not notice until 2500 miles. Special oil (sae ow-20 dextosD diesel oil)
Greetings! I purchased a half ton last year. I was between a GM Denali diesel and a Ford F150 Hybrid. I went back and forth because I liked both and wanted good mileage. After sitting down and figuring it out I went with the F150 hybrid. Here is one of two reasons:
I figured like you said you got, 32 highway, 28MPG for the Denali city. The usage would go way up if towing which seems to be confirmed by owners,
"Our '21 Denali used about 20 gallons of DEF in a 1200 mile trip pulling a 7000 lb travel trailer.
2020 3.0 with 40k, yep seats are still firm but that fuel milage and towing capacity still impress me. Just wish it was not my wife's truck...
We have a 2020 fleet truck with 115k miles and the seats are finally starting to soften up!
I would love to see a long term review of a Chevy LTZ or GMC SLT short box crew cab baby duramax with Max Tow package. Really interested to see how much one could reliably tow and what the lowered geared rear end does to drivability and fuel milage.
Is a good truck I have a 2023 denali with the duramax and I love the fuel economy
The crazy thing is 3.0 Duramax is 50 hp more, and 5 lb-ft fewer than the 7.3L Power stroker offered in 2000's. Small Trailer is a bit understatement.
I had custom leather seat covers made for mine and it makes a huge difference. They look factory. Wish I could remember the name of the company. I averaged 42.5 mpg on one trip. Great truck
I drove to Bakersfield (100) miles round trip..twice I looked at this truck then research it than changed my mind and then bought the 2500hd sierra at4 ,,about the same price and way more
I like the firm seats. The soft ones always seemed to break down too quickly
22 same truck. Imo, I drive ALOT for my work. Have to say best seats I have rode in. Guess it depends on your preference.
I agree with you about the seats, I’ve sat on wooden benches that felt better. They are the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat on, I don’t know who approved them for production
Thanks for this video - evaluating 3.0 liter diesel 2024 Denali Ultimate vs. Ford Platinum right now…appreciate this input.
I got a 2024 sierra 1500 Duramax for about 55,000 nice truck fully loaded I like it . It’s a LT with mud flaps and nice running boards. Retail 63k 😎🇺🇸
I just got one and wish I would’ve purchased the black out edition with the chrome delete.
Why do you not have the 3.0 Z71 anymore ?
@@PoppaWheelies Temporary insanity and watched too many RUclips videos / spent the summer overthinking. I traded it and traded several times. Would have been best off keeping it. And never starting truckathon 2024. The 3.0 is an awesome engine and the truck was great.

That is almost un American... My payment on a 10k a year lease is 1.25 a mile for my 82k 2023 Denali. It is a tax deduction at least.
My 2014 RAM 1500 Limited seats were so much better the my 2021 GMC 1500 AT4. I drove to Florida (8 hours) and i was crippled when I got there. UNREAL! Not sure what to do! I love the truck..
Test drove several AT4’s, 3.0L diesel, and 6.2L gas. Great vehicles, but could not get comfortable in the driver seat, which became the deal breaker.
Lol
Second issue is exactly what you liked.
I love my ‘05 GMC yukon w 5.3 V8 w 4l60e. I like it that much that i want to get an ‘17/18 yukon/tahoe.
Great video . . have you checked the MPG with a calculator ? ( the last three GM vehicles I've owned, get different MPG when I divide it out myself )
Lemon law it !
The only thing I’d like to see about the seat firmness is how it effects longevity at 150k-200k miles.
I would have thought the Denali option would be so comfortable, I know the ford f150 platinum option seats are awesome
I do a 55 mile round trip commute 5 days a week and just love my 2022 GMC LM2 Duramax!
This little Duramax heats up real fast!
@@ThunderRunner nice, I appreciate the info. If interest rates head down one of these days I'd love to get one
Firm seats sounds perfect. What do you mean by ride quality though? I have always disliked 1500s because they are too squishy.
Great video. Thanks. Any issues on short drives with the diesel ? That would be a concern for me. For ex work is 7mi one way for me.
Please talk to cost of fuel diesel, and the cost of death and the oil engine oil. Does the truck uses?
Great video! That mileage is great. What is the mileage when you're towing say a 7klb trailer???
Do you take this offroad besides on the beaches?
That's awesome, I had a tough time decided between GMC & Ram ultimately I went with the comfort seats on the Ram & slightly better fuel economy. I do love the engine response on the GMC though cant go wrong with either one honestly 👍
Look into a banks pedal monster. It will allow you to change the pedal reaction curve from an app on your phone.
Eh, maybe in 10-15 years I can do a swap with a used engine/used truck.
we have a new yukon XL and we get 830 on a tank of diesel...sick fuel mileage
Do all 1500's with the baby diesel come with the 10 speed trany ? Do you know the rear axle ratio's available that can be ordered with this truck ?
Very honest review JD, thank you.
I couldn’t get one quick enough when I heard that the seat was the only bad thing!
I was looking at the max tow package for my next GM 1/2 ton. But in the current model years, you lose the two speed transfer case with that package. I guess it is max towing unless you get the trailer stuck. I’ll stick with the lower tow capacity to get a t-case that has low range.
I'm not sure that is the case, you might want to double check.
You can get Max Tow with the 2 speed transfer case in the High Country model.
I miss the early 2000’s when you could order most any option à la carte instead of having to buy a package to get option X.
