This is soooo mouthwatering. Love how they combine so many items into one packaging. The real way to enjoy street food. Find a table next to the road and enjoy the flavours... Must have been so good
So true! Haha P Ying! So true, I think not only the flavor... (of course, the home-cooking, the passion, the FUN of these types of tables is Ultimate!) ... more than the flavor of the food, its the flavor of ALL the parts of the experience that really make this a "Real Way to Enjoy Street Food," just like you said!! Haha, the way they wrap this meal too is quite cute (but its not small! A huge amount of rice can fit into these...). We miss you, I hope youre both enjoying a wonderful Thursday today :)
What you had is nasi campur. A helping of rice and your own selection of dishes (lauk) and condiments. The right selection combination of lauk is needed. My personal rule: No meat lauk and fish lauk combo, no sambal lauk and soy sauce lauk combo, combo of three or less meat/fish lauk (one wet and two dry) and one veg lauk. Select any sambal or soya sauce based condiment with your selection.

Hi joel...glad to see you enjoy eating local food..it is malay dish..nasi campur...by the way tempoyak is fermented durian flesh mix with sugar and salt...meanwhile if tempoyak mix with chili it is call sambal tempoyak...it is varies from states in malaysia😊
Thanks for the info Elma, wow, thats awesome! I forgot about the necessary adding of sugar, to increase fermentation right?? Although I am sure that my friend who makes Tempoyak at home, I am sure the he told me ONLY salt. So maybe... his won't ferment as strongly?
@@JoelsTastyRide I guess depends on the maker of the tempoyak. Some may add sugar but my mum makes tempoyak only with salt. No sugar added. And we will hang the whole batch of tempoyak in a kind of mueslin cloth from the ceiling of our house and let the water from the combination of durian+salt drips down in the container. The tempoyak will only be packed in a tupperware after no more water drips from the mueslin cloth. That curry rice looks so amazing, and I adore (and miss) tempoyak! I've saved the location of this stall, for if I ever get back to KL. Thanks so much to you and Li for sharing this video (and making us all very, very hungry!)
Wow, fermented durian in a curry would be a huge flavor bomb. Fresh durian by itself is already unbearable for most people. I would like to try it if I ever go visit Malaysia. Much respect to you Joel for eating the curries and rice with your hands just like the locals. I personally would have used the spoon to prevent my hand smelling like curry.🤙
Agreed!! I’ve smelt durian at the market, sheesh! I wasn’t sure how to prepare it at the time, so I didn’t get it. I may try to locate it again. I’m impressed. Love the video!!
Tempoyak are durian fermented condiment, the ingredients in there mostly are durian, chili, garlic(?),sugar and water if not mistaken, every cook have their own traditional way and secret ingredient to add, some may include shredded anchovy, some put more sugar for a sweet tempoyak and some put extra salt if they want a little bit salty tempoyak so it can be stored longer, but the most suitable cuisine to eat with tempoyak are ikan patin(iridescent shark catfish) which is a type of fish curry cooked with tempoyak and the taste was divine you must try it

I bet that's delicious! When I've been in Malaysia (Penang), I've always gone to one "rice and curry" place but instead of curry they had all kinds of "tasty toppings" for your rice (foods I've never seen elsewhere, and all super tasty). OMG....tempoyak are so delicious 🤤🤤🤤 especially in gulai lemak kuning (coconut gravy with turmeric- very famous in my home state, Negeri Sembilan 😊)...but u need to find a pure 100% durian. Some tempoyak seller mixed tempoyak with other things i.e mashed banana because durian is expensive.

Yes! Husin :). Haha, good ears... but also, I agree with her! Now still 1 week later, I still have great memories of that lunch (we have had many other great meals, we will share the videos in the following weeks!)... but yeah, this lunch really was Perfect.
Serously dude You are nearly becoming a malaysian with the tempoyak and spices......for the record.... not even all malaysian eat tempoyak......i never thought i will live to see the day..cheers
usually the pricing is based on the number of dishes you chose even if you took left over without any meat in it, they still charge you the same price as if you have taken the meat. This is why your packet of rice is on the high side (RM9) despite only one meat dish. The trick to maximise value is to choose as little type of dishes but to maximise on the quantity per type.
Thank you so much for hanging out with me yesterday, the prayers are so appreciated. I really mean that :-) greetings to the whole family today if you would please Becka! I hope you’re smiling and ready for a new GREAT day of life!!

Wow. Its been a long time since ive had tempoyak. Now im getting some after watching your video. Cool.
Love it man sharing inspiration that is the purpose of it all, love this comment :-) enjoy your lunch today sir
💥
hahha.. jarang mat salleh suka tempoyak..u are legend man..

this is what drive microeconomies for Malaysia since 1970, very affordable for normal peoples = mixed/wrap rice (nasi campur/ nasi bungkus)
Enjoy your day

Auto subscribe yourr channel hopee u enjoyyy in Malaysia staysafe stayhealth takecaree
That is so awesome Tengku, love the support!!!!
usually the pricing is based on the number of dishes you chose even if you took left over without any meat in it, they still charge you the same price as if you have taken the meat. This is why your packet of rice is on the high side (RM9) despite only one meat dish.
The trick to maximise value is to choose as little type of dishes but to maximise on the quantity per type.
Blessings
