- I've carried a Walther PPS M2 for almost 2 years now. This video is an update to my earlier PPS video from a year ago, and addresses the recall of late last year, and my one criticism of the Walther PPS M2.

Not gonna lie I carried my pps m2 for 2 years then I got a p365 in a trade with another gun I had.. carried the sig for 2 weeks and got rid of it and I’m back to the pps m2. Hands down one of the best ccw on the market. Super underrated

Thanks for sharing your long-term review. I've had my PPS M2 LE (Law Enforcement) Edition for several years. The LE Edition includes 3 mags (6, 7 & 8 RDS) and florescent green night sights that are also easier to see in daylight and glow in dark with few seconds of flashlight shot. The sights are recessed to protect the sights from damage. I found they are easy to clean with 70% alcohol and Q-tip or water with drop of lemon dish detergent and dry off immediately with clean Q-Tip. You can buy gun sight kit for $20 online. Buy the green florescent tape, not the paint. The factory uses tape for a reason. Can you tell us more about what they did to repair your trigger?

I've carried a PPS M2 for a year and six months give or take, and I'd agree with most everything you've said.
What I use to clean the sights is thin edge of a toothpick. It works for me just fine.
Thanks for these long-term reviews. It's great stuff. Because you often see guys review a gun after a week of using it, which isn't comprehensive or in depth, especially for an EDC gun.
Hey, thanks for the tip! I've tried using a metal probe, but always feel like I'm going to scratch the paint. A wooden toothpick might be just the ticket. I'll have to give it a try.
@@LongTermReviews hey no problem! If you ever have to clean the striker or striker channel, use a Dowell or thick side of the same toothpick when taking off the slide plate. I've learned with owning any polymer guns to use non marring materials for cleaning or disassembly.
@@LongTermReviews An old toothbrush works wonders in being able to remove dust and lint from the various nooks and crannies of the gun.

That's almost half what I paid for mine. Of course, gun prices hadn't fully dropped from the 2016 election prices when I bought. Sounds like you got a great deal!

I've been carrying my PPS M2 for 3 years now. Great carry arm. For cleaning my sights I use water with tiny bit of dish soap, dip a Q-TIP, then rotate it in the recess of the sight dots. To dry I dab with dry cloth or other end of the q-tip. Have not lost any paint or diminished their brightness with that cleaning method. If you do diminish paint brightness it's easy to add a drop of model paint in the recess.
Thanks! I'll have to give that a try. For some reason I hadn't considered dish soap, but I'm sure that would work well to break up the thin gunk layer over the paint.
Just a follow up, this method worked well. The real key for me was using the dry end of the Q-tip to remove the cleaning solution. The rights are now bright white.
I PUT GREEN FLUORESCENT PAINT ON THE SIGHTS. NOW THEY DON'T COLLECT LINT OR DUST AND "POP" DAY OR NIGHT.

Do you recommend a good study holster for the PPS M2 LE?
I own the PPS M2 like a lot of the folks here. To your point, I also own a Sig P238 and a P938 for those situations where concealability is key. Like you, I've also found that the PPS conceals well enough to leave the P238 in the safe. In my case I use a Tulster IWB holster for my PPS. You'd pretty much need a metal detector to find the gun on me. They're a great holster for this gun, and in fairness, for the P938/P238 as well.

How many rounds have you put through the Walther PPS M2? I would think that would be the most important factor in any “update” other than the amount of carry lent the guns has?
Have 4 in same category and the PPS M2 is my favorite. Sometimes when carrying it I forget to rotate intentionally. Lol
I've got the first version in .40 cal. No complaints on it at all. Just wondering why they stopped making it in .40
Nice review, this is my EDC as well. One comment on the sights; use a white paint stick to fill the recesses and you'll still have the same sight picture. Dirt and dust will always coat the top of the paint which is either easily washed off or recoated with the paint stick.
The way I clean sights like that is with a Qtip and rubbing alcohol. If you don't like them being recessed so much, clean them good, then fill them to where you want it with clear fingernail polish.

I actually took a Sharpie and blacked out the rear sights - I think it speeds up the front site acquisition.
If you dont know already the white back rears are rubber inserts and can be removed with a toothpick. It makes this pistol accurate as hell
Use a q tip to clean the sights
When's the last time you shot that gun? You need to take it apart every now and then and clean it out. Met a guy at the shooting range a couple weeks ago who was an off duty cop and he went to shoot his duty pistol which if I remember was a Sig 320 45 caliber. He hadn't shot it or taken it apart in a couple of months. It shot once then locked up. Took him 15 minutes to get it apart and it was bone dry and full of lint. It's your gun and your life so you can do what you want.
That sounds like an extreme case of negligence. I think every 300 rounds is a solid number to do a quick breakdown and clean/lube. 500 rounds for more active shooters is fine. 1000 at the max. For strictly carry guns, i'd probably keep it cleaned and lubed constantly.
Use a toothbrush to clean the sights, I use it on mine, then apply a little gun oil and wipe it off. I don't have any problems.
Just clean your gun bro. Better yet go shoot it a bunch then clean it. A q tip works wonders on the sights, they are just like about every other three dot set up, you can dig out the white stuff, it's kinda like a clay or something and refill the dots with some white model paint and you will be happy. I carry a pps m2 every day and wouldn't trade it for anything, it's never choked, not once. I did put the galloway precision mag extension gizmo on the 6 round mag making it 7 and found it conceals far better than the factory 7 rounder, I highly recommend picking one of those up!
Any problems shooting aluminum ammo?
That's a great question. I've only ever shot brass cased and nickel plated brass cased ammo through it, but I'll have to remember to try aluminum for review purposes at some point. Thanks for the idea!
@@LongTermReviews I've been shooting my PPS M2 since early summer and during that time I have put a lot of Wolf steel case through it without any issues at all. In fact it shoots Wolf very accurately. I haven't put any aluminum through it but if it shoots steel Wolf it will probably be good to go. It's a great gun.

No problems at all with the Independence aluminum 115gr after 100 or so rounds mixed with a similar amount of brass. My indoor range is fine with aluminum and I'm fine with the performance and price :)
You've been carrying it for two years and haven't added grip tape? I picked up an M2 yesterday and immediately I can tell the only thing it needs is grip tape.
I run Talon grips on my competition pistol, but I've never gotten around to putting them on any carry guns. It's crossed my mind, but I haven't done it. I do like the stock grips on the pistol reasonably well, so modifying them really hasn't been a priority for me.
um, no! you need to learn how to hold a gun!
What mag pouch do you use?
It's some leather OWB mag pouch I picked up at a local gunshop on impulse. I wouldn't recommend it because the metal belt clip and the baseplate of the magazine both tend to create hot spots against my side.

Yeah, I hadn't just really gotten in there with a q tip before I made this video. Q tips are definitely the way to go.

Clean the sights with a toothbrush
Been considering this one or the CCP M2 380 ........
Full disclosure, I haven't shot a CCP, but I've handled the first gen CCP at a gunstore counter. The major benefit of the CCP in .380 is that its gas retarded blowback system leads to a softer recoil. Since I've never shot it, I can't say how much softer, but it will be softer than the PPS. It'll also have a much lighter recoil spring, as the gas system is helping to slow the slide down. This means that the slide will be easier to manipulate. If you struggle to operate the slide on the PPS, this can be a significant benefit over the PPS. Personally, i have no problem racking the slide on my PPS so easier slide manipulation isn't a big deal to me. The CCP also has a manual safety which may be a pro or a con to you. I'd rather not have one, because it's one more thing to go wrong, and defensive gun situations tend to happen blindingly quick.
Downsides to the CCP, it'll be a little thicker, which translates to more bulk to conceal. On paper its only like .2" thicker than the PPS, but you'll notice that difference to some degree in how well the pistol conceals. The CCP is still certainly concealable though.
Finally the CCP in question is chambered in .380 ACP, which is an adequate defensive chambering with proper defensive ammunition. However, 9 mm is basically the gold standard for carry pistols for good reason so I'd say in every metric besides recoil, the .380 chambering is a con when compared to the PPS in 9 mm.
I think ultimately it comes down to whether the recoil reduction and the ease of slide manipulation warrant the increased bulk and reduced power of the CCP in .380. The presence of a manual safety may also be a deciding factor for you one way or the other. Best of luck!
The PPS M2 is a RUST MAGNET, regardless of lubricant/protectorant used.
IF THIS HAPPENS ON YOUR OTHER CCW MAYBE YOU SWEAT TO MUCH.
I’ve carried my PPS M2 near daily for 7 years now and not a speck of rust on it.
I’ve carried it in Texas summer heat, taken it hiking on the trails of Glacier National Park, carried in IWB, OWB, AIWB, and it is still going strong.
The only part that did rust, however, were the mags that were constantly pressed up against my undershirt, and I’m a sweaty guy. NP3+ treatment on a few mags for carry took care of that.
Guess I got a lemon. Ran 127 rounds through it and had several malfunctions. Walther Arms customer service is a joke. I’ll never buy anything from them again.
