7 Days to Die - Horde Base Breakdown - The Tower - New Alpha 20 Horde Base

  • In this 7 days to die horde base series I show off a horde base, run you through an in depth build tutorial, toss a 7 day horde at it, and then judge it. Usually that’s the plan. Sometimes when the base is just too big to cover in a single video, I do the base tour and horde night. I’ll close out with some ratings and upgrade options. The goal is to pack as much information into a short video to give insight and decide if this is the best horde base for you. As I move forward with this series, I'll be taking my prior A19 bases and putting them back through the gauntlet.
    === The Tower ===
    This base was designed to play with the new circular mechanics in Alpha 20 and to teach you how to use some of the multi-block constructions. At the hard this is a simple door base with a pole entrance to force the zombie to fall and thin the horde while you mangle the ones in front.
    PLEASE NOTE I HAVE AN UPDATED VERSION: • 7 Days to Die - Horde ...
    If you are building this in your world, take creative liberty and modify it! Let me know what you build with this is a starting point. Meet me down in the comments to tell me how this base looks and if you are going to give it a try!

I am looking at sinking my teeth in finally this weekend i might just jump into the comm server and learn things there. Holding R you can copy block shapes from the radial menu, FP need to make a pick shape button. Perhaps like Minecraft and Satisfactory and use the middle mouse button. I find myself trying to do it constantly lol. They seem to have code that could me modified to be bound to a key, is what I thought when I saw the copy shape option it just wasn't fully utilized.

      @@WaywardEko its all good mate, having issues currently where the inventory sometimes doesn't close/items can't be moved and i get a console error - and infinite screamers spawning at night when i tunnel leading to infinite spawns of mobs and the games AI systems can't keep up and it often leads to the zombies not being able to move with a game crash. @@WaywardEko Well it is somewhat logical to do also I noticed they like to drop every alpha new spanner into how we build bases, as not to cheese out mechanics. My new favorite block is Block 1/2 1m hole. has full health very good visibility even if you stack two back to back, nice to shoot through and quite decent even for melee, also you did not pin this, so lots of folks will have trouble to find edited amends to base

  • @dying2play517
    @dying2play517 2 года назад

    I just used this same design, expect had a square tower instead of circular and my day 14 horde collapsed my tower around 1am, lol. I didn't think it was needed to make my tower with a solid 5x5 thick concrete base, and used just 4, single block wide 5 tall pillars in each corner as legs. The bridge lasted the whole time, but I could hear zombies bashing away beneath me and knew it was only a matter of time, if they were doing what I suspected... Out of nowhere, the floor, walls and ceiling all collapse, I survive the fall and get hit a few times running for my minibike. Hop on it for the getaway and after about 5 feet, I stall... Ran outta gas like a noob... First death, horde night, day 14...

    • @WaywardEko
      @WaywardEko  2 года назад

      Honestly square vs round shouldn't matter -- you are experiencing the difference in how zombies attack when falling that was introduced with the stable version. I've been using this, was great for the first 3 hordes. Moved to snow and rebuilt, made the bottom 3 levels steel, and made a 4th underground foundation level of steel, with 3 width steel floor around it because of holes in the terrain. Reworked the opening to accomodate a punchy turret on the side of it. Day 42 horde they brought the tower down.

      @@WaywardEko They went through the base of the tower, starting under the door. I built a catwalk out of bars that went all the around so i could clear strays. Few hits at a time they broke one block then crawled into the hole and it went quick from there. Question, how does the soil connect up with the curved blocks?
    Past alphas always left a noticeable gap with square blocks.
    If you were to try extending the round structure down into the ground, would the soil extend into the block's area, or would there be a void where the block leaves an empty space for the curve?

      Awesome! I'm definitely tuning in.
      I actually watched a video on RUclips, forgot his channel name but definitely deserves credit. Where he shows that even the corridor base is doable in A20 by using a trick with sheets.
      I did his trick with your tower design and it's somewhat working great. You basically have to replace the first 2 blocks of the structural support block with sheets. However, you need to place the bottom sheet facing the bottom and then on top of it goes the 2nd sheet facing the top. This way you have a 2 block gap that your base is sitting on. It looks like it's floating.
      The idea is that now zombies don't have something to break when they go into destroy area mode.
      The only downside to this is that your daze is sitting on blocks with 500 hit points.

      I love this comment so much because I feel it. For me it's not even about min-max anymore. It's a question of how much time do I want to spend playing the game and building vs repairing. I was really hoping that A20 would shake up the base meta a bit more.

      @@WaywardEko Yeah, having just discovered you I was trying to upgrade the winding staircase into the twisted castle, but then I saw this. It's a lot less effort to build and works nicely. Even with the stupid unneeded vindictive change to the blocks (same material cost for build and upgrade as a full HP block to add insult to injury, fuck you Gazz!) the original bridge still seems to work fine, although I only just finished day 21 horde and I play with 25% zed block damage, they just don't seem to get a chance to pile up anyway because they will push each other off. The single trapdoor provides perfect spacing to melee but not get hit back.
      I agree it is sad that this is really the only effective design now. Although that is not to take anything away from this, I think it's a great design on many levels - ease of building & maintenance, fun to use, expandable, room for friends. This was also a great tutorial on the new build system, even as someone who has played since A7 I am lost every update as they reinvent the wheel every time.
      Now this last horde I did have a problem with a lot of them whacking the tower base. They even broke 1 block. This is since I upgraded it all to concrete, although I made it a hollow core. Going to try making it solid and see if that dissuades them. I'm not sure if they're seeing it as a shorter path to me or just getting stuck.
      Really looking forward to you revealing the full castle, trying to reverse engineer it in the meantime since I need the space. Going to be daring (or maybe just lazy) and make horde and main 1 base. I'm hoping your going to show enough detail to build, it's always good to find a base design that includes a starter and stages to grow into endgame.

      @@Krougal - so glad this is working for you! Did you see my recommendations on block changes? Updated the pinned comment and that helps a bunch and am going to do a full video on how to address the block challenges next week. Frosthaven will drop on Monday but won’t be an in depth tutorial, but you should get the idea. Doing tutorials on these really large builds is really time intensive and I’m hoping to do some in the coming year S time allows! Right now I’m trying to get as many ideas and concepts out to people as possible to get them going in a20! Thanks for watching!

      @@WaywardEko I did. That's what I'm saying though, the original design seems fine. They constantly knock each other off (like if I have to run up to the roof to deal with cliff-racers). This is with 64 zombies.
      The tower base is where they are misbehaving. I'm not sure what is making it more attractive at the moment. They might be getting stuck somehow and frustrated. I mean with the 25% damage rating to tear through even a few concrete blocks is more than just some casual beating by passerby. They seem to be spawning mostly behind me of course, because Murphy. Will see on day 28 with solid core although I plan on adding the flanking towers by then.
      I hear ya on time constraints. A quick overview of the foundation level and maybe a fly-by of the wiring would be a big help. Enjoying your other videos as well!

      @@Krougal totally misread the comment before - fill in the bottom and that should change their pathing. The only other potential change is the shorten the bridge but that distance should be ok. It’s painful what they come from opposite side. Hang out the back door and shoot them :)

    Kind of sad the devs changed the block durability, smaller blocks are now up to 75% weaker, so nice creative designs aren't as viable anymore. Stick to straightforward full blocks instead.

    • @WaywardEko

      I just saw this. Not even sure how to react. I get the logic, but it will further nerf melee during horde night and make bases less interesting. I have to think on how to pivot. Knee jerk reaction is that this is a horrible change

      @@WaywardEko imo one of the best things about 7 Days was how you could be creative and build aesthetically pleasing structures without having to worry about mismatched durability. With the update, building boring rectangular bases seems like the better strategy because if you build a creative base that happens to use nerfed blocks it's going to probably throw off the AI pathing.
      It's weird because they added in all these awesome new blocks, simplified and consolidated the upgrade path so all the blocks upgrade the same way, then punish the players who favour using the new blocks over basic cubes. Was an odd decision for them to have made. I really hope they don't decide to further nerf durability based on shape in future updates.

      @@WaywardEko I tend to agree with you on that. Alpha 20 was all about the build overhaul, during the dev streams they putva lot of focus on marketing all the new shapes, it's like they kept saying "look at all the stuff you can build" and then the first update forces players to pick between either form or function exclusively.
      I can only hope they get enough backlash that they rethink it. Especially criticism from content creators, because they'll definitely listen then. The inclusion of Twitch integration (a feature that only a tiny fraction of the player base cares about) shows they're very focused on what content creators have to say.

    So much time wasted rotating to make sure stuff is facing the right way when you have a layer below you to copy rotation AND even the shape if you need to.

    • @WaywardEko
      @WaywardEko  2 года назад +1

      Different strokes -- on the circle it's a constant 3 rotations each time. If the copy rotation/shape was on the middle mouse like prefab editor it would be faster, but holding down R isn't super quick.

      @@WaywardEko Would be cool if they added that keybind/shortcut for sure. I still think it's much faster than having to type and search and make sure you've got the right matching one and to match rotation. But you're right, different strokes. Might be worth mentioning in future build guides though so your viewers, especially newbs, understand their options. I think the copy function is at least more newb friendly, but there's something to be said for memorizing exactly what goes where.
