    what if you don't use a torque wrench? if I simply give it a good tightening, would that suffice? or will that result in an oil leak for sure?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  6 лет назад +2

      Just make sure you tighten it good man, maybe apply a new washer. A lot of people I know do "hand tight"

    I tried to do my own oil change but the screw is over tightened and it’s mount is actually crooked. F..k I need it to be fully jacked up the sky in order to get oil done. Thus I gotta get to mechanic each time. Sucks!

    What was the number of that Fram Oil filter, if you remember? I want to do an oil change on my sister's car.

    • @TheGerbsteve

      +Richard Ojeda I believe Fram is a 7317, not 💯% sure though

    Jesus, all the rocks/gravel on that surface can be dangerous. The jack stands need to be on a flat, clean surface. Find a concrete surface and then get it done. Gotta remind people to use the parking brake to help secure the back tires, and also to chock them as a backup. Working under a raised car can seriously hurt or kill you so SAFETY FIRST. Good video tho, thx.

    Did you just run 5w20 conventional non synthetic oil it your whole ownership of the car? I just bought a 2004 lx coupe I'm planning on just using conventional oil.

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  7 лет назад +3

      I'm currently running royal purple 10w-30 lol. But, mainly it's 5w-20 full synthetic. I changed it out when I bought it at 154k. The mileage is now at 250k. Use mobil 1 full synthetic man, it's better for the car. Synthetic handles heat better, flows better, and makes your internals cleaner.

    • @connerbutler1077
      @connerbutler1077 7 лет назад

      Gerb Productions I just changed it lol I'll buy synthetic in about 3,000 miles.

    • @TheGerbsteve

      +Dodge 318 Cummins Do it. Go with Royal or Mobil 1. These cars are little animals man. I was going to boost Mike or k20 swap it eventually lol

    Will I be fine with 4qts of oil?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  3 года назад

      Shouldn't hurt anything, just try to get as close to 3.7qt as possible. Sometimes more engine is oil worse than having less

    Do you need to change your oil filter if so after how many miles?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  6 лет назад +2

      I usually change mine every oil change, but some oil filters (mobil 1) can last up to 20K miles.

  • @dennisjd63
    @dennisjd63 5 лет назад +1

    By time you buy the Mobil 1 and filter your looking at 30 bucks. My mechanic charges 35 for an oil change. I can do this with my eyes closed but only if I’m really ambitious. Good info though. I use Pennzoil synthetic. My 2003 has 44k original on it. .

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  5 лет назад +4

      True, probs be cheaper the majority of the time to bring it to someone. Thing is, i hate letting other people touch my car for some random reason lol.

    My dad said use 5-30 in the summer and 5-20 in the winter is this true? Does it matter?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  5 лет назад +1

      5w30 > 5w20 In terms of frequency of heat in the summer. The 30 helps with high temps. Now the 5w20 in the winter will flow a lot easier because it’s slightly thinner. All personal preference. I love my 5w30 💪🏼

    Anyone notice oil use after highway driving? I’ve added about a litre of oil throughout the last 4000 miles and there is still hardly any oil on the stick. Car doesnt leak any oil at all but seems to use it. Using 5W-20 Mobile 1 synthetic. Should I try conventional or even a thicker oil?

    • @probablysomebody
      @probablysomebody 5 лет назад

      Gunner_Up_North mine does the exact same thing. It drops to the tip of the dipstick within a week or two and I just add more. It never seems to go below that though. Can’t find a leak anywhere and it doesn’t look like it burns it so I’m pretty confused.

    I'm having an issue with my civic it sometimes starts and other times it wont start it will turn over until the battery's dead. It's like a main relay issue but I was told it doesn't have one. Could it be the crank position sensor?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  7 лет назад

      +Dodge 318 Cummins my advise would be to start with changing out the spark plugs. Run ngk. If it keeps doing that, your starter will crap out. These cars have problems with crank / cam sensors. I had to change my cam position sensor. My car was misfiring at higher speeds. Start with the plugs though.

    • @connerbutler1077
      @connerbutler1077 7 лет назад

      Gerb Productions it starts and then I turn it off and try to restart it won't start after 20 or 30 minutes it starts I don't think it's Spark plugs.

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  7 лет назад

      That's weird man, I'm trying to think. Do you think it's the starter?

    • @connerbutler1077
      @connerbutler1077 7 лет назад

      Gerb Productions it spins over fine I think I'm just going to get a fuel pump relay for $25 because it's like it has a bad fuel pump but if you leave it alone for a while after not starting it will start.
