I don't think I've ever seen so much work put into replacing rear speakers 🤯
Ah, my fellow Civic brethren all in one place 🤞🏻
couldn't figure out how to remove side cushions, thanks for the help!
This is an excellent video. The commentary is very clear and explains all you need to know. Thank you!
Thanks a bunch for the instructive video. I have to replace my son's speakers in his Acura this weekend and your video will definitely save me precious time figuring what to do.
Lol!
Thank you for your video. Very detail oriented, and great explanation. 👍
Thank you so much for helping me out with this. You are the best and I can't thank you enough.
Loved the tip on how to reuse the bracket! Flipping it upside down is a neat trick

Next time, film the reassembly. Even if it can be figured out by the reverse order, it is better to actually see it done.
Always test the speakers before reassembly. Always.
Thanks for the tip just realized that
@@IvanNava ikr? who doesn't test it first lol
How do you set up a test setup
@@kolbyrushin3289 Plug it into car and play music before you screw it all in
Remember to get the C pillar plastic columns in before the side cushions! I learned this the hard way
I'm definitely jotting this down this is exactly a mistake I would make
Excellent detailed instruction!
Thanks man. Way easy now
Hey Dude your awesome and have the patience of a saint I would've punched a hole in my own head without this video
thanks very much for this video.
THX DUDE! But holy crap.... so much to just remove & replace. I remember when you could just lay in the trunk, unscrew, drop, & replace. Fuuuuccckkkkk 😂
honda civics are good cars. until you have to fix them. PITA...
@@bvnseven they're cheap tho which is a plus. cheap car that runs well, cheap parts. unlike other companies *AHEM* chevy
Well done and helpful video, thanks. My main problem was the side cushion upper clip. Was behind a metal box area unlike in your video. Have 2004 civic ex. Could not get clips to budge so just pulled cushion out breaking the clip. After reassembly it didnt matter as lower bolt seems to hold it just fine. Also loved the tip with pliers pushing up clips from trunk. Made removing package tray easy!
Sounds like it's too late but I have an 04 and it wasn't easy but I did get the side cushions to come out by prying up on the tabs without breaking them.
To the people having a hard time with the side cushions. I've got a 05. Those side cushions were VERY hard. It helped me by instead of coming in through the trunk to pry the tabs, I got a long screw driver and pried up from the side of the cushions. You'd think that lifting up on the cushion and prying with screw driver helps but it doesn't, just pry upwards with the screw driver and they popped out for me eventually.
Grazi!
Thanks for this info, I have a 05 as well and the plastic latch is not accessible through the trunk like shown in this video.
Most helpful video right away from the description alone 😢
Exactly what i was looking.
Love U dude 👌

Thank you! 🙏🏻
You'll get better/cleaner bass if you add some gasket material to the top and bottom of the brackets.
Great video this is incredibly helpful! This looks like such a pain in the ass though lol
Ditto on the tip to release clips from below. Much smoother removal. Also manual release of the vertical clips would have made removal of the two side cushions much easier for me. Should have gone to Provo Beast FIRST. Thumbs up & thanks.
You don't need to cut or use those adapters. You can use a small flathead screwdriver, weasel it in where the wires connect to the speaker in the factory clip, release the small plastic tabs holding the wires in place, while releasing the tabs pull the wires out of the connector. I did that on the front speakers, and it saved some headaches.
I’m thinking about just cutting the speaker cover off and doing it that way ( then I will replace the cover with a custom one )
Thinking the same thing
Do you have a video on how to take out the stock stereo on a 04 Honda Civic ex?
Those clips that hold on the package shelf can be removed easier with a 1/4" drive 8 or 10 mm socket.
Thanks. I was actually considering replacing my rear speakers. This is a lot more work than I anticipated. I paid Best Buy to do the fronts like 20 years ago, but I figured the rears are probably on their way out now. Any idea why Crutchfield lists the rears at 5 1/4". I know that you are correct that the rears are 6.5", but I found it very odd that Crutchfield did that.
Our 2005 Civic LXʻs side cushions did not come out as easily. Access to it was difficult. We ended up breaking that hook mount on the driver side back seat it was in there solid.
Yeah I've got an 05 and it was super hard. I pried up from the side with a long screw driver instead of coming in through the trunk
im buying these
So I bought some Kenwood 6 1/2 inch speakers I did everything you did in the video but my speakers do not fit in the bracket what should I do they’re too big
I wonder if it would make sense when doing this to mount the speakers from underneath? That way, the next speaker change is much easier(?) You can't see them anyway and I doubt being an inch lower would affect much.
You still need to get the factory speaker out, but you can give it a shot. Generally, speakers of this type are not designed for the inverted mount, only top mount, but give it a shot. Make sure you have a decent seal around the speaker and have good mounts.
that is a great idea
Instead of destroying the factory speakers, use these adapters Metra 82-7500 Speaker Mounting Brackets.
We have the exact same car
I have a question hopefully u can help me. I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze which came with no speakers in the back but the panels in the back showed no indication it came with speakers since they didn’t have a holes . I was wondering since the actual deck has the holes already there do I need to cut holes on the panel for the speakers . Also do I need to put spacers in between the speakers and the deck to keep them from touching the medal.
Wondering if it's just my ears but, my right door speaker and rear right is blasting my right ear really harshly with the 2-5k range. Wonder if it's the bouncing sound or maybe underpowered speakers. Just did an install recently following this and might try seeing if it's cable related and just rewire the whole thing with new wires. Installed in a 2003 Civic EX Sedan with JL C1 6.5s coaxial and a AVH-601EX deck
Thanks
Where can I get a aftermarket bracket for the rear speakers? Everytime I look up the scosche it says “front speakers only”
If you don't want to make your own, you can drill and mount them with your own screws / hardware. You don't necessarily need a bracket.
The factory speakers in my 2005 Civic EX are 5 1/4 - 5.25 inch. Were the speakers you removed and replaced 6.5, or were they a different size? I don't want to do any metal cutting to make something fit. Will 6.5 inch speakers fit in this hole or should I go with the 5.25 size?
is it necessary to take off side cushions? i’m having a reallyyy hard time removing them.
Hmm. I just said "fuck that" and popped the speaker covers off with a razor blade and a cat's paw. Took about 30 minutes install time, not counting the time going to the store for the speakers and another store for the harness adapters.
Explain more please
Muito bom 👍
That's a lot of work lmao I'm a lazy fuck!! Nice job
Would buying a mounting bracket make a difference? I'm not really skilful when it comes to drilling...
It would save you a lot of time. The aftermarket bracket that can be used is the Scosche SAH6. Just search on amazon or ebay and purchase. Generally, they come in pairs.
As Expected!
How good are the JVC speakers in the video, compared to the factory speakers that you removed? I thought I'd get an honest opinion from a customer in the same position as me before I purchase them.
Very budget aftermarket speakers, but regardless better than factory.
Does that OEM plug to plug up to factory speakers work for front doors also ?
HondaHerb I’m late but, yes, it’s the same part number for all 6 speaker locations
Hello, my rear speakers are broken and your video will help me a lot to install new ones, thank you. However, I do not intend to replace the original radio. Do you believe it will be able to run speakers as powerful as yours or do I have a chance that it will break because according to my research it has a power of 30 watts x 4.
The factory radio will put out between 8 and 15 watts RMS (at most) per channel, the 30 watts is peak power. You will get better sound quality and performance from an aftermarket radio that will put out between 15 - 25 watts RMS per channel. you will get even better performance with an external amplifier.
I am gonna keep the factory stereo. Does the stereo has enough power for good sound? I have a 02 civic lx
Well it's all in the ears of the beholder. Generally it will sound better somewhat, but remember, the factory radio now is 16 years old, so the bottleneck will be the radio.
Is the recycling of the bracket from the stock speakers necessary? Or is it optional?
Optional.. you can buy adapters, or make your own (search youtube for tutorials)
I noticed you have a 4 door Honda.. do these exact same steps apply for a 2 door Honda Civic since the back is a little different? Please let me know. Thank you
Yep, you will find it to be identical.
Marco Antonio no the back speakers are down deferent on coupe
Ugh so much work... But great video. Thanks!
I’m not able to get those back pillars off at all. And it seems to me that they are also pretty snugly tucked into the headliner and the door seal area. Any suggestions?
My 05 just has the speakers covers no panel
Don’t 6 by 9’s come in the 01 Honda Civic ?
Nice video but weak slappers
How about driver side
What size rear speakers does a 2004 Honda Civic lx have ?
6"x9" for the coupe and 5-1/4" for the sedan
Bueno el compa
Would kicker cs series work on a 05 tl with a similar set up..?
Always TEST! before you put everything back together!!!!
Would I still be able to install these even if I don’t have the key to put the seats down?
Yep, as long as you can put the seats down, no key required.
@@ProvoBeastAudio thank you. I have the LX model😒so taking out the sides of the seats was a mission and a half
You can just use a flat head and pop the cover off.. then go through the trunk. This is overkill for 6.5 replacement..
That damn tab from the corner is giving me a fight
Welp just broke it🤦🏽♂️😭
And the sound quality of those speakers how you rate it
For the price, i would rate them about a 7
Did you have a amp
This vehicle did not have an amp, it ran off an aftermarket radio.
what if I wanna install 6X9s..??
It will require you to either modify a universal bracket for 6x9" speakers, or cut into the rear deck sheet metal to fit 6x9's. either way, it will take some creativity.
It looks so hard
Mine is coupe 01 civic is that the same??
No, our coupes use a 6x9 speaker instead. But as far as installation, yes it’s the same
The screws to get it off are also different
WTF was Honda thinking when they designed the rear speaker positioning?
So 600 watts no amp
I thought the Rear speakers are 6.9 for that years of civic
Pre 2001's are.
Travis McCarthy. I have 6.9 in mines
My 2002 coupe has 6x9s but my gmas 4 door had 6 1/2s
My 05 coupe has pioneer 6x9s in the back
Sedans have 6.5 and coupes has 6x9
so I have a 2004 honda civic lx so the rear speakers would be a 6.5 or 6x9?
Just pop the trunk, and look upwards at your speakers - if they are perfect circles, they are 6.5. If they are oval, 6x9. Easiest way to find out.
@@ProvoBeastAudio i cant believe i didnt think of that lol, appreciate it🔥
This makes no sense on how complicated they made this, i had bmws that arent this complicated just to take out the back speakers Lmao They suck ass so i gotta take em out though.
huge design flaw. honda could simply allow the speaker covers to pop out and get to the screw
We can only hope!
2004 and 2005 are different from 01-03. You need to change the title. Thanks for wasting my time.
Honda sure made it a bitch just to change a couple speakers.
the coupe version is infinitely harder than this
coupes are certainly a pain to work in
Ok never mind... too much work... damn 7th gen civics
