- Today we are showing you how to put in a new head unit radio for a Honda Civic between the years of 2001-2005. I believe this will also apply to the same years Accord as they use the same panel to hold the radio in. Thank you so much for watching!

For anyone doing a DIY- don’t pull the cigarette lighter connector out like that. There’s a little tab underneath the connector that you press and then you can just pull it with a firm tug by hand.
I really don't like the OEM Honda radio. Especially in an age where everything is bluetooth. Thank you for showing how easy this is
Yeah I agree. Thanks for watching! :D
It ended up taking me half an hour just to figure out the panel removal even when it looked so easy in the video
@@josephjarosz9009 dont worry I'm here with you

FYI, only the 2003-5 models require removal of the center console to install the stereo. 2000-02 do not.
I was wondering about this.. It seems so ridiculous that you would have to remove all those panels just to get to the radio. I have a 2001 honda civic dx 5 speed manual. Ive replaced stereos in my 05 G35, my 05 Subaru WRX TR, and my 03 Jeep Liberty.... None of those vehicles required so much panel removing. My civic already has an after market old CD player which does work so it has the single din kit but I cannot find a video that shows how to just swap the head unit.
Eric Peacock I have a 2002 EX 5MT and your 2001 should be the same as mine, which is one of the easiest head units to access as you just pull out the trim surrounding the head unit after you remove those two bolts on the underside. No trim panels to remove except that small panel that covers those two bolts. It is bizarre that Honda decided to make it harder to access the head unit for the 04-05 mid cycle refresh for no other reason.
@@IMP3TIGO Probably because, people where stealing Hondas alot and if they couldn't steal the car they would most likey steal the radio
Oo
@@acuralee I installed my double din car stereo in my 2001 honda civic last week. I didn't have to remove the center console. The piece of panel under the stereo in this Civic is part of the center console. On my civic it is separate from the center console.
Hey, I wanted to say Thank You. I was able to change out my radio with little trouble. You're freaking awesome!
Best head unit video ever!
Fantastic video! This was the first time I ever did anything like this to my car. Thanks so much for the in-depth video.
Very cool! I love hearing that. Thanks for watching!
Yea, same here, much appreciated.
But for real, although not extremely complex or anything, it seems like this particular make of car is unnecessarily involved to swap a radio.
Which is unfortunate, because In 2019, we need an aux cable! And obviously that wasn’t a standard feature in cars in 2001-2005. But hey, that’s what I get for buying an older car, I just had to have a manual to beat up while I learned. lol.
Thanks again. Good man, I’ll come back to you for my car needs in the future, with any luck you’ll be my guide to a bunch of adjustments and work yet to come.
Me reDing this after removing the center console :|
For those with the manual transmission 7th gen civics, I followed this video exactly EXCEPT i skipped the removal of the shifter panel and started at 1:24 instead. Maybe you can remove the plastic trim panel for the manual transmission, but I felt that if I kept forcing it I would have ended up breaking something.
Doing this allows you to gain access to every other step, you just kinda have to swivel the panel around the manual shifter for the initial steps.
Really great tutorial. This is the first mod i would make when i have the time. Thank you for making this tutorial.
Great video man...very straight ahead and easy to follow - Thank you for your time
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
gonna hopefully be changing my radio tomorrow and this video will definitely be helpful
Good luck!
Thank you so much for this video! Had to replace my son’s unit today and this walkthrough was on-point!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for giving exact measurements. That helped me so very much with my aftermarket unit that I also got second hand. Cheers :)
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks a lot for this video. Out of the 10 or so videos I watched before replacing the stereo in my 2003 Honda Civic this one was the best in terms of clarity (no just the sound or video quality but the quality of the step by step instructions). I just replaced my OEM head unit with Pioneer AVH NEX-1400 with a back-up camera. Enjoying it so far. Thanks again!
Very cool! Thanks for watching!
how did you install the backup camera? any tutorial that you followed?
Did your car originally have a radio code?
@@blue8ify yeah it did have a code.
@@NinadKothari1908 I went Google diving and discovered once you remove the factory radio, the code is not needed. That was my worry. I thought the car needed the code and I didn’t understand how I wld enter it w/ an aftermarket stereo.
If this video has taught me one thing, it's that I need a body panel remover...
One of the best and cheapest tools I own. I use it all the time since I was 14 and bought it for my DeLorean. Thanks for watching Dan!
Yes, I finally bought a set, and probably should have years ago, they will be pretty handy going forward
Thank you for such a nice video tutorial, I ordered the kit for my Honda civic, good job
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
This was super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I used the same radio. The AXV 1000 - a newer model with backup camera feature. I liked how clean the unit looked. Honda seems to be a pain doing any av work but workable.
A solid unit to be sure! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video, just wish I had the patience and guts to try.
Thankyou for the video! Just changed mine this evening. The two bolts at the bottom were a bit tricky to get out but the rest went easy. 👍🏻
Nice work!
Thank you so much for your helpful video
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video, pretty helpful. Though at least in my manual 2002 EM I can more easily remove just the cigarette lighter panel with a little wiggling rather than mess with the shifter trim. Once the suggested trim arrives I will be all set
Nice video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks fro the video: I never know where to start with taking the trim off.
Thanks for this. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video bruh. Thank you
Thanx dude

Great job..looks easy..
It is! Totally something anyone could do. Thanks for watching!
Wish me luck, I'm watching the video since I gott'a attack this chore for my daughter's Civic tomorrow!
You got this! Thanks for watching Sean!
how'd it go Sean?
How did it go?
Thx very much I really appreciate this
Glad I could help!
Nice vid thanks for the help
No problem 👍
@2CarPros I recently acquired a 2003 Civic. The aftermarket radio that was installed resets back to the initial set up after the car has been off for more than an hour. Also, Fuse 9 in the under-hood fuse box blows the moment a new 10 Amp fuse is inserted.
Any idea what the issue might be? I’m thinking the radio was wired incorrectly. Is it possible incorrect wiring of the radio is causing that fuse to blow?
11:30 it snaps right in 😂 assuming that’s some other noise in the shop...
where’d you get that angled 8mm socket ?
This helps me to do a DIY, though on radio head is also a anti thift alarm system too. So is there any way bypass it without having to deal with problems.
I ran into no anti theft issues. Thanks for watching!
Good afternoon, tell me the frame for the right wheel! I can’t find it very necessary!
agh i can’t find anywhere to buy this unit and get it to canada anymore ! do you know any places still selling these units ?
yeeeee The Killers is in the place
are the instructions the same on a 2004 honda Acura EL?
trying to decide if i can do this myself or if i should ask my mechanic to help me... how much would people charge to do this if i buy the radio?
Do you need any kind of facia for a single din install? Or can the new stereo just slow in, in place of the oem one?
I believe so yes. Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Thank you for watching Lacari!
I have made any money in 10yrs, never had a driver's license, but my dad got a Honda Civic the other day and I see potential. Somehow any nonexistent miracle occurs and I come across all the money I need to handle it. Then you best believe I'm gonna hook this damn car up all the way, starting with the radio. Somebody tell me please, do miracles occur? Will I ever start making real money again?
You just gotta find what works for you. I would suggest that you get your driver's license that opens up more opportunities for making money.

A better place for the microphone is up the a-pillar, up in the corner! Clips right there where they put your oil change sticker. It’s better because if you have the windows down/cracked it’s not in the wind!
Too each their own, I really like it front and center. Thanks for watching Scott!
What kind of cluster is that you have in there?
Where do we buy the quick connectors?
3:28 "Now we should be able to remove this panel as a whole."
*discretely proceeds to break panel above hazard light switch*
What? It was broken before I got to it lol Thanks for watching!
I try to do this with my 01 civic but wasn’t getting power at all, I did see your purple wires were not connected is that my problem??
Hey Major Good afternoon but I would like to know this panel of the speedometer which car this panel is from I'm from Rio Grande do Norte rn and this panel never come here
Can you tell me what you did with the second of the two connector that connect to the oem radio when its time to plug in the new radio?
I just plugged the slicer harness into the car's stock harness. Thanks for watching!
Why couldn't I find this video yesterday when I used that garbage schoshe dash kit.. it doesn't even fit in the dash properly.. but.. I'll change it out when I install my subs ..
what do you guys think about installing an aftermarket head unit with apple carplay into the car?
A good call! That's what I did for my daily. Thanks for watching!
Updates on this so far?
what size are those quick connectors?
What kind of socket was used?
i accidentally dropped a screw from under the radio down to the wires of my console. will the radio be fine without it?
2002 Honda civic ex is a little different.
What is the connection wire you plugged in to the lower left of the new audio unit? What's it's purpose?
I believe you are referring to the antenna. Thanks for watching Brad!
Hey Ryan I have 2005 hybrid Civic I was thinking about putting the same system but would it affect the hybrid battery if I install this radio?
Nope. This video was actually done on a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. It is my daily driver. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros thanks
I'm assuming the process would be identical with the "pioneer 210ex"
You got it. Thanks for watching!
Other than the parking break wire . Where do the remaining lose wires go ?
Which are you talking about bud? Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros I saw a purple wire that wasn’t attached to any other wire.
Is there a way to switch the positions of the cubby and stereo slots (single din) ? I want the stereo on the bottom portion ...
That’s a neat suggestion!
Not with the stock trim. But I would think it doable if you can make/get some trim
So what did you ultimately do with the parking brake wire? Did you tap it into the black ground wire or actually wire it to the parking brake? Thanks!
It's kinda like a choose your own adventure book. Both endings work and it's all good. Technically according to being technically right, I routed it to the parking brake light. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros I don't understand. There is no visual of what you are describing and I have no clue. Also, why would the parking brake need to be wired to the radio? What is wrong with playing the radio when it is not engaged?
@@Killashandra111 regulations require that the parking brake be set before you can watch videos on the screen. This is a safety feature so you don’t watch while you’re driving. When the radio is connected to the parking brake, it will not play videos unless the parking brake is on.
Yes many car radio/infotainment systems have a wide range of features and options that are ruled too distracting or complex while driving, but if you have a passenger it is a shame to not have full access also
would this help in replacing a 2005 honda civic ex car raido ?
Yeah it should be the same. Thanks for watching!
My radio code isnt working and I dont feel like driving 3.5 hrs to nearest Honda dealership for the code, will replacing with an after market one will the radio work?
Yep. That's actually the reason I replaced the stock one with an aftermarket unit. Thanks for watching!
Would you do it the same way in a manual?
As far as I know, yes. Thanks for watching Nick!
Small problem: since install of new head unit the parking lights are on anytime the ignition is, regardless of if they are turned on at the switch. Anyone have this problem? Any known fixes?
do you have to connect that green wire to the parking break? jw because I didn't see a step showing that
Behemoth Gaming at 16:34 you can see he just put the green wire with the black wire like he said earlier was technically “illegal”
I can't find the Sony unit anywhere, currently sold out. Does anyone know if any unit will fit with the fit kit that is listed above? Sorry kind of new to this.
As long as it is the double din standard yes it will fit that kit. Thanks for watching!
On 16:15 when he grabbed the cars blue wire harness. Yeah. I don’t have that in my 2001 Honda Civic lx. It’s just wires that were connected to the old stereo. Now I have a knee one that have completely different colors and I don’t know what to do. I’ve search everywhere. Someone please help.
It has to have a connector somewhere. Thanks for watching!
so how would you mount the wire to the parking brake?
You just run it to the parking break indicator light. So when it has power the parking brake is on and you get full functionality. Thanks for watching!
cant remove the trim around the console
Can you do this to a Honda Civic 2002?
Yes. The Generation 7 Civics (2001-2005) are quite similar.
Do we have to buy that extra wire harness extension or can we just connect the original to the one that comes with the stereo??
No, you need to buy the additional harness. Thanks for watching!
Can i use a Bluetooth transmitter in the cigarette lighter fuse on this honda civic dashboard?
Yeah, it just won't sound great. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros is there a specific shape of Bluetooth transmitter i must use? Because my current one isnt going in, thank you so much for the help
I did this on a 04 honda civic ex. Used the wiring harness but my head unit could no save the time or the preset radio stions. Was told to switch yellow and orange. Now when i turn the headlights on. I lose the instrument lights except for one of the lights. Everything else is out untill i turn off the headlights off. Then everything turns on. Pls help me
Same to me if I turn my headlights on my radio goes black
Can I put the fit kit in without pulling everything apart?
Nope. This is the way you have to do it. Trust me it stunned me too. Usually it's easier. Thanks for watching!
Usually with those microphones, I just run up the A-pillar so it's right above me.
Yeah that's a good way too. Thanks for watching!
Ok but how does the trim disassembly bs work for a manual
Very similarly. Thanks for watching!
Do we HAVE to disconnect the battery under the hood ?
If you don't you run the risk of blowing a fuse. Thanks for watching!
Will a 7" double din fit ?
As long as it is a double din standard then yes. Thanks for watching!
Will it need the kit also? Or will it fit ok with out the kit?
Do I have to upgrade my battery and alternator?
If you are adding wattage probably (amp, and subs, etc.). If you are simply switching out the head unit probably not
is their another way for the panel to come off
Nope. Thanks for watching!
Can't get those 2 8mm bolts to budge. Tried a bolt extraction but still didn't work. Need some help lol
If you rounded it then you need to drill it out. Thanks for watching!

I work at a Best Buy that has a car audio installation bay. We use Metra for the dash kits.
what if its a manual 03 will it still be possible?
And by this I mean the wires are the same?
I understand the trim removal is different,

It should be listed in the manual or in the glovebox. Barring that call the dealer. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros what I discovered is once you remove the factory stereo, there is no need for code. That was what I was asking. Thank God I know the code. Ty for the video!!! I’m deciding on a radio now. Does the double din work well if I want to keep my storage space and only get a single din stereo?
