Great video. If you want to smooth out your seam sealer you can put transmission fluid on your finger glide it over the top of the seam sealer. After a day, most of the fluid evaporates and your sealer will be smooth.
Thanks for the tips,,I have a Toyota with a trunk leak...Thanks to you for the tips ..I believe I will be able to repair my leaking trunk. Best Regards
Thanks! The seam is one thing I did not think of. My trunk has been leaking for some time and honestly did not think about resealing seams at all. Replaced the seal and it it still leaks like a sieve.
Good luck! Hope this was helpful as while there do seem to be some common spots, not everyone has a leak for the same reason...hopefully this helps give you areas to find yours.
@@VortexGarage thank you for your help, it was that strange side vent on the left side, i still dont understand how it was the cause of the leak, or how the water was flowing in, but using some RTV sealant seems to have solved the issue

Is there a flexible seam sealer available? I have a 2002 acura tats leaking just like your civic. But id like something flexible to use. I have an intense sound system and im pretty sure my subs caused the cracks in the seam sealer. Thank you!
It may not be quite as permanent a fix - if you cover the existing sealer that has been chipping off, it's possible that more will lift, causing your new sealer to not adhere long-term. It may not lift, but if it does you'll need to do it a second time. Scraping the old gets it out of the equation and helps ensure best adherence of the new sealer.
Did you fix the leaks????? Didn't show a water test and I assume nothing unless I check it. Wouldn't bother with a color match paint on an old vehicle unless its pristine. I clean the deck under the trunk lid as well as do the inside of the doors etc. Cheap insurance. RR window bottom edge sealer clean is a good idea as that's what holds the glass to the body. Dirt and debris build up may cause a wicking action enhancing or causing the trunk leak prob(s). Well done vid never the less. Seam trunk leaks on older Honda's are a big prob for water intrusion no matter model or year.
i got 2007 Colbalt i can't find the water leak .it is coming from inside the truck on right side panel what should i do ..i looks like coming from the back window
Hole in car trunk weather seal/ top left side, cause: Trunk wires rubbing on W.Strip when close trunk... What tape can I use to seal it ? Not sure if silicone tape works because only stick to self.
You missed a spot. The lights on the trunk lid leak like a mofo if the gaskets go bad. Not only will it pour out of the lid as you raise it but it will slowly leak into the bottom of the trunk until there's too much and it spills over to your back seat but you won't know because it's underneath. When you do find it the frame for your back seat will be very rusted and those rings are a bitch to remove then. Good times.
Very true on that! I thought I covered it slightly as I did add a bit of RTV on the edges, but yeah I didn't remove these and inspect or replace anything behind the assemblies. From what I gather, leaks on these cars are either the lights or the seam sealer, with the other things all following in terms of how often it's the case.
I took my 2006 honda accord to a mechanic and he said it wasnt my tail lights bc the inside walls would be wet and its only the bottom or center of my trunk that is wet he said it could be my seal. Its been raining here in NC all week and so i cant even find time to actually do anything about like getting it dry bc it just wont stop raining its been almost a week now. Do you think its my seal? I paid a mechanic to check it and he didnt even seem like he was 100% that it was my seal. When i checked it i did see tiny holes but the holes look like someone to a pin or a pencil and stuck it through. When i check to see if the hole has went through the other side of the seal i cant seem to find a hole thats going completely through. Do you think it could actually be my seal?
If you are referring to holes in the trunk weatherstripping seal, if they appear perfectly round and are somewhat evenly or routinely placed on the seal, they're most likely meant to be there, as air-escape holes for the seal itself. Unfortunately it's hard to say exactly what the cause of your leak would be. That said, you noted you took this to a mechanic - if you are paying the mechanic for diagnosis, I think that mechanic should be determining the cause not just stating what it isn't. One way this can be done, is to actually get in the trunk with it closed (probably need to dry it out first or someone's laying in the wet) and with a strong flashlight and the car outside in the rain, or with someone pouring a constant stream of water from a hose, you look all around to find the source of the leak from inside the trunk. It can be a bit of a pain - especially if the trunk is wet, but if you aren't sure where it is, that's really the only way to fully diagnose it. Doing that, or having the mechanic do similar, should pinpoint where the leak is on your Accord. Best of luck!
It comes down to assy line speed. Been on many Honda assy lines from lawn mower to MC And Auto in Japan, Canada and the USA They aint slow and are intense. Never the less they are good paying jobs and have bennefits. Spin off from these mobs (auto) was 7 people. But if they can save 0.57 $ like GM did with the ChevyCruise,Pontiac,Saturn and Cobalt, kill a lot of folks, then cover it up with a modified detent in the switch costing. YES.$$$0. 57$$$ Cents and using the original part number to hide it. Do U think they they give a damn.
