      This video is good, but it's even better to meet and talk to vegans in your area if they exist and are organizing vegan meet and greats, potlucks, etc. They'll probably know where you can get good deals on stuff locally. If that isn't happening there might be an animal rights org active in your area that you can volunteer for and they'll probably be somewhat interested in chatting a bit particularly if it's a slow day.

    For mexican rice, i love to do this at maximum laziness: in the rice cooker. Put rice in with appropriate amount of water, add Better than Boullian, seasonings, herbs, cans of veggies(tomatoes, black beans, corn, whatever) and then start the rice cooker. Makes easy burrito filling too for quick burritos to freeze for quick work lunches when you have nothing made to take with. I microwave for 90 sec, flip, 90 sec, flip back and 90 sec and its done!

    Thanks for sharing the same feeling the rest of us are feeling with grocery shopping. Definitely laughed a lot at your outrage during the grocery shopping. Totally feel the same way. It’s $7 for a bag of chips at the gas stations now!!!! What!??? And then at the regular grocery stores it’s $4 which is what gas station prices used to be. Getting so outrageous! Obviously chips aren’t a necessity but I love me some chips 😂

    • @jbell9179
      @jbell9179 Год назад +1

      I've also noticed unhealthy food is usually cheaper than the fruits and vegetables. $9 for a bag of 4-5 oranges? $10 for a container of strawberries or a bag of lettuce 🙄 I've been getting the $1.47 or $1.67 chips at superstore/walmart (store brands) because I won't pay the stupidly expensive prices for the name brands. And even the cheap ones are on the way out even though I love them because I'm sick of the price gouging of everything.

    As a budgeter (in Vancouver) it's interesting to see the prices in Calgary. It's crazy how much tofu, beans, onions, mushrooms and even cabbage has gone up as those were my staples. I buy the traditional tofu snd it's up more at no frills than t&t (which has still gone up). Smoked tofu is a full dollar+ there over a small grocer. I also have to get bags of onions, potatos and carrots now just so it's not $2 per but as a single person, it can lead to waste (my nemesis). One thing that still rule at no frills: frozen spinach is usually $1 a pack, the equivalent of two heads. I also use my optimum points to help (buy essentials from shoppers on bonus days for the equivalent of $30 to sepnd on groceries later). It's pretty rough when the discount grocer is catching up to whole foods

      You can chop up the onion and freeze them. Saves you wasting them and having ti go through the hassle of chopping them every time youre cooking hehe. Yiu couod freexe the carrots and potatoes to but ahould blacnche those first or make them into a soup or amd freeze that

      @@bearclaire I do freeze a lot but another tradeoff with living in a city is limited space. There's also this annoying trend of landlords providing smaller and smaller fridge/ freezers so mine fills up pretty fast. One day I'll have to leave due to the cost of living and I will buy a big ole fridge AND a deep freeze!

      Yes, the discount grocers are catching up to the other stores because in a lot of places they are all owned by one parent company and so there's no competition. The gov't should be doing something about it but of course it's not.🙄

    For budgeting buy dry beans not canned beans they are exponentially cheaper and just need to sit in water overnight and then cook for a few hours. Almost completely hands off and you get 5-8 times as much food for the price.

    Wow, I realize how lucky I am that Italy still has low grocery prices... I mean, compared to our salaries it's quite proportionated anyways, but still! A can of chickpeas will usually be 0.50-0.60 cents, same for all the other beans, tomato sauce will be 0.90 cents for a liter, a lemon can be found at 0.30 cents per lemon...

    The lemons I usually get are either 3 or 4 for a dollar, but they’re the smaller ones. The larger ones do cost more, & I’ve had the same thing happen with both sizes, the thick peeling. Rinds? The outside.

    Loves it! Thanks for this video. I live in northern Canada, so feeling the heat of grocery inflation. Whenever I can find tofu on sale I buy a few extra packs and throw them in my freezer. I had a stockpile I just used up, and was surprised at the rise of tofu. It’s redonk!

    Since Covid-19 everything went sky high in prices. USA here and I always joke that our prices here are Canadian now, but I guess Canadian is up another notch now.

    I gasp at the cost of groceries in the eastern area of the US. You would think because of it being the summer growing season produce wpuld be cheaper but it's not plus the crops are looking pretty bad and don't taste as good any more. There are alot of items I won't buy anymore and if others do the same maybe prices will go down.
