I bought the D3300 about 8 months ago - my first DSLR camera - and I barely used it because I was so intimidated by it. This video has been amazing and I feel so much more confident now using it. Very easy to understand and follow. Thank you.

You are a Boss Jared, I have bought my D3300 1 month ago and immediately bought your Video Beginner Guide, then started shooting landscapes, Baseball games, portraits, and received many compliments, I shoot in RAW and edit my files with Lightroom following your suggestions. I recently bought the D7100 which I use for more important occasions. I wanted to thank you man for what you did and you do. FRO KNOW PHOTO and guide you to the best of your abilities in an easy and Creative funny way. You Rock man. Thank you! Blessings. Christian (ChrisVac)

Thank you Kyle I am using a lot the D3300, but I thought, since I am going to the beach frequently and baseball games, and have already brought the D3300 to Nikon for cleaning, I would like to have a 2nd camera such as the D7100 for portraits and less sandy environment. Also I have 2 friends who are professional photographer and I am looking forward to join them in their shooting session. Anyway you are right. Ciao, God Bless

I've picked up this camera since it seems like an excellent entry level camera. I've also spent some time with learning it by myself and I felt like I got a pretty good grasp on it since I have been getting some great shots but, with a little bit of a learning curve ahead of me. After watching this video there was a lot of tips on how to become a better photographer in the long term. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO FROKNOW!!!!

Bought this camera and watching this review has been really helpful. Being new to DSLR's and wanting to get out of auto so I bought the Go Above and Beyond Auto with the Beginner Flash Guide. Best $ I spent. I highly recommend both to anyone no matter what age you are if you want to get out of auto. I've taken pictures since the 60's w/basic cameras....yes I'm a child of the 60's.....and with this guide and videos I pushed myself into manual mode. Yes you can teach an old boomer new tricks. I put a hummingbird feeder outside my front window where my desk is and this is how I'm learning to work with the different settings by taking pictures of the different birds that stop by for a drink. Trial and error, trial and error while watching the Go Above and Beyond video. If I don't understand something I go back and watch it again. Down to earth, easy to understand and fun to watch. I highly recommend the beginners guide and the Flash Guide.

Now after 10 years of Digital shooting I changed my camera back to a Nikon D 300S . then as the sensors improved I bought a Nikon D3300 having used it for several years I am exploring the Video side of this camera, and this is where RUclips come in. We just purchased the Nikon D3300 - and although I was somewhat familiar with it - your video helped me tremendously.

I learned more in the 35 minutes of your video than I would have in 2 weeks of ownership without your video!!

I just received my Nikon d3300 a few days ago (exactly like the one you're using in this video), but at 20:20 when you are speaking about "movie settings" your options were as follow: 1920x1080; 60p, 1920x1080; 30p, 1920x1080; 24p, 1280x 720; 60p, 640x 424; 30p. BUT ON MY CAMERA my options are: 1920x1080; 50p, 1920x1080; 25p, 1920x1080; 24p, 1280x 720; 50p, 640x 424; 25p... why is this? Why do I have the exact same camera (same model, same maker), but COMPLETELY DIFFERENT adjustment options? Is this something I should be concern about? #Help!!!

Nice basic tutorial. Good for us newbs. However, here's my unsolicited advice for future videos that you share: In the first 10 minutes where you are pointing out specific buttons and dials and features on the camera and lens, the close-up secondary view in the inset was not close up enough. It was hard to tell what you were pointing at or where, much of the time.

This video has a lot of info but he seems pretty scatter brained and jumps around a lot. And it would have been nice if they would have kept the camera going from over his shoulder so we could see what buttons he is pushing when he is changing settings. At 33:00 he goes back to manual mode and shows how he can change to focus point and then starts adjusting the little meter bar but doesn't explain how he got from the focus point adjustment to the meter bar adjustment

Jason Frost I agree to some extent. He could have done a better job with explaining certain things like aperture/shutterspeed/ISO, but I see why he doesn't. He is also marketing his product. So in this free video he gives you a sample of the kind of teacher he might be, and if you want to really learn you buy his product.

Thanks so much for making this and saving us time by knowing what you are going to say. I hate when people just go on and on without really offering any info. You packed hours worth of instruction into this 40 mins and I appreciate it. :-)

I’ve been shooting photos for 60 years (cut my teeth on the Speed Graphic and flashbulbs and operated cameras from Minox to 5x7 and currently own 3 Nikon, one FX and 2 DX and a bridge Canon as well as Compact Canon. Bought. A used D3300 to use some of the glass I have that fits DX . Your video reinforced the settings I had selected and explained it better to a retired military photographer (30 years including managing a photo crew). very nice video, I truly enjoyed it. Bought the camera used from a reputable source, so no manual; it was in fact your video that nailed everything - thanks mfj. 👨🏻‍🦳

Great guide to the Nikon D3300. I brought mine not long ago as my first DSLR. Another thing worth mention was the setting on "File number sequence" (default was "OFF"). Every time you put a new SD Card the file number will start from DSC_0001.JPG. If you want the file naming to continue with the last number even when changing SD Card set this to "ON".

Jared I have been looking for photography classes around my area (ridicules expensive) and then I started looking for "other" options( these videos) finally, I found you and I believe you will be my mentor. Since there are so many talking so much but they don't really explains the subjects. Thanks so much for all this information. I just got this camera and I am under tight budget now. But I am definitely, I will but you video in the near future. Thanks again.

This video is amazing. I learned so much from this & I only shoot manual because of it. I've trialed and error and figured out how to get the best use of my camera. the best lesson is to just go out and start shooting in all conditions of lighting. You'll see just how great this little starter camera is. I've subscribed to everything he offers. Bless you all happy shooting.

I've had my 3300 for almost a year, yet this was a very helpful video! learned a few things! I tend to stay away from Live View for photos but I had no idea that when you change the Shutter Speed, it'll change what's on the screen to reflect the change. Also, I didn't really know that the "?" would work as a Manual, explaining things that are on the screen. Sweet!

I'm having a problem. Is shooting in raw not supposed to allow you to edit it on the computer? I shot some in raw, and my computer tells me I need to set it to jpeg to edit.

Two discoveries I made on my D3200, which is very similar to the D3300: 1) In Live view if you use Manual mode you can go down to ISO 200, in Aperture priority you can go down to ISO 100. 2) The Rode smart lav isn't compatible with the mic in on the camera. Hope that helps! ;-)

I don't use this camera, watched the video for fun. But have still learned something about my D600. for all these years shooting Nikon, I overlooked The "Auto image rotation" option. I've probably lost a few hours of my life batch-rotating pictures in Lightroom or Bridge. Thanks, Jared
