Yes, indeed, are you listening to a waltz. But not just any waltz, only the Last Waltz, played by a rock band. But not just any rock band, just the best rock band ever. Until forever.
One of the GREATEST endings ever filmed Martin Scoreses shot a compelling masterpiece.God bless Marty, Robbie and Garth and R.I.P to LEVON HELM,RICK DANKO and RICHARD MANUAL.
A beautiful ending to a beautiful documentary. I was too young to fully appreciate it when it first came out. Now I realize that we may never see such a gathering of talent like that ever again.
It’s 7-15-2022 I’m 63 and just watched this FOR THE FIRST TIME! I did not even know this existed until I was watching a video on change. The heavy. And somebody there talked about this movie. And of course low rider. Which I plan to watch again next. ❤️🧡💛💚💜 ☮️ ✌🏻
When people ask me what is my favourite band of all time, I say The Band. They say yeah, but what is the name> I say The Band. They look at me as if I'm being a smart A. Some people just don't know what they have missed out on in their lives
I utterly LOVE the opening of this track with the mighty organ chord resolving into the piercing beauty of the theme on Robbie's guitar with Garth's synth underneath and then the further development, mandolin break and final exquisite resolution into Greensleeves. Pure genius. My girlfriend introduced me to The Theme from The Last Waltz on a mix tape she made for me when we first met. Worked quite well as we've been married for 22 years in December!
When my father was a young man he use too drink with members from "The Band". They were then known as the "Hawks" , and we're the backing band for a man known as Ronnie Hawkins . This was at a club in Port Stanley , Ontario . It was called the Stork Club . At the time in about 1960 Robbie Robertson could play music in the bar , but because he was only 17 at the time he was not allowed too drink in the bar .
Every member played multiple instruments, but it took too long for them to reach a mainstream audience, and by the time they did after Big Pink and The Last Waltz, their main song writer Robertson had had enough of touring for a while. They, like their first band The Hawks with Ronnie Hawkins, should have been bigger.
When I watched the movie "The Last Waltz" it opened with the guys walking out and Robertson says "still here, huh"? they did one more. Dont know title, cant find here on U Tube. I liked it. Can anyone help?I don't Loved the way Danko stood there with hands wide on guitar and head and shoulders bobbing to the music.
Why in the name of the small gentleman ,did they decide not to shoot pre and post concert backstage ? The cream of the Rock world doing their thing would have been gold dust for us fans to witness on film . I cant understand why not ? The chance of a lifetime ...lost !
Entertainment Sports and More I actually recorded the 1990 nba finals with the Detroit pistons and Portland trailblazer with this song playing at the end of the finals when the pistons won their second straight championship, here's the video ruclips.net/video/BPIKpmSB6pE/видео.html
I CAN NOT DANCE ANYWAY BECAUSE MY BACK HURTS ME AND I HARDLY MOVE LEGS BUT I WILL BE BETTER LIKE BALLERINA YES ONE OF THESE DAYS I GONNA SPRED MY WINGS AND LIKE EAGLE FLY IN MY MINDS
I am trying to find the part of the movie that shows a studio 'interview' toward the end of the movie and a song is started. Does anyone know the name of the song or what part I'm talking about? That song I have been looking for for yrs now...
I know the part you mean Jeff, it starts with incredible orgin that goes da da - - da da da da da. I will watch it again when I get the chance. I have it in my head now but can't remember the name.
One of my favorite endings of any movie ever made.
Yes, indeed, are you listening to a waltz. But not just any waltz, only the Last Waltz, played by a rock band. But not just any rock band, just the best rock band ever. Until forever.
Couldn't agree more Jorge, always has and always will be my favourite band
Thankyou Robbie for all the music you gave us, and much much more. Rest in Eternity.

I thought all the performances in The Last Waltz were great, but when I saw this it was hauntingly beautiful.
A beautiful ending to a beautiful documentary. I was too young to fully appreciate it when it first came out. Now I realize that we may never see such a gathering of talent like that ever again.

Exactly !!!
michael Baker here here
I saw the movie in 1978. I was just 18 years old at the time. I even bought a record of the concert.

Hold on to her, she's definitely a keeper. Anyone who loves music like this is great.
Amazing.. Just close your eyes.. 5 very talented men..
This hauntingly beautiful ending merges perfectly with those times of tears...outstanding band with soul.
Danko, Robertson and Hudson were Canadian. They seemed to know American music better than we do.
YEAH ROBBIE
This just could not be any better.
Rest in peace, Robbie.
R.I.P. Levon. Thanks for the blessing of your music.
One of my favourite themes ever.
Levon :( I only started listening to The Band a few weeks ago. He was a beautiful soul.
Fantastic! 0:00 The Last Walt(z) Theme, 3:20 Greensleeves theme
YOU WERE THE BEST BAND
One of the best pieces of this super concert from 1978.
fn0210 1976 I believe. Film released in 78
just brilliant music from a brilliant band. they are dead except Robbie. so sad.
Garth Hudson's still alive, he's 83.

Levon is in the final stages of throat cancer. God bless you, Levon.
Rest in peace Robbie Robertson 💔😢🙏🏻

I remember a Canadian girl said that she started loving Robbie after this scene was closed in an Ottawa cinema.
Such a beautiful ending. It makes me sad for what happened to them. No, we’ll never see their likes again.

During my life, the apogee of pop music was this song. Maybe it will be classified as classical in the future? Who knows?
Why in the name of the small gentleman ,did they decide not to shoot pre and post concert backstage ? The cream of the Rock world doing their thing would have been gold dust for us fans to witness on film . I cant understand why not ? The chance of a lifetime ...lost !
