Me too but I was 18 years behind you. I am 68 years old too bad I just discovered the great music of the band 2 years ago. I did hear the music of the Band when was a teenage. The life of Levon Helm n Robbie Robertson are amazing
I play the drums a little, quite badly I might add, and I simply cannot fathom SINGING while playing. I know the same general technique is used by musicians for singing while playing any instrument...the instrumental playing comes down to sheer instinct and muscle memory, while the musician primarily concentrates on the words he/she sings, but still...it's just mind-blowing to see it. Great footage from a classic film, and RIP to all the great musicians we've lost over the years.
No worries little bro.... I am 35 and when I was 16 I felt the same way. Last month my 12 year old daughter comes bustin in the living room and says Dad! you gotta check out this band called the "Band"! Right then I knew there was hope for music.
Hey Mr. 16 year old. It's is not hard to appreciate this music. I grew up with it and am happy to see young people discovering it. You're right. It does make you feel good.
It's a great recording. The one on "The Last Waltz" album is probably genuinely from the concert, but it's nice to have this one with the flashy Scorsese camera moves - especially giving the Staples their due.
I love that slightly embarassed look across the stage by Robbie @ 4.36 when he hits that dud note. They could have redone it but I'm glad they left it in.
I mean...I get what you're all saying...that Robertson is not the whole band...but I think you're all exaggerating quite a bit when you say the emphasis is almost solely on Robertson... ...you all do realize, also, that Robertson wrote like, everything they ever recorded, right? So don't crucify the guy without good reason. Sure, Danko had a better voice...that's why he and Manuel did all of the backup vox on the recordings...but without Robertson there is no Band.
12gagedan Depends on what album you bought. Two came out to my knowledge one included this version and the one you’re talking about. And the other just had the other version. You probably know this by now but you still deserve an answer.
My Lord where have the real musicians gone? I'm almost 70 and I feel so grateful that this was the music that I grew up with.
after listening to this soundtrack in the public library twenty years ago I fell in love with the music of The Band and the voice of Mavis Staples.

Its a shame it cuts early just as Mavis Staple says "beautiful" sends a shiver down my spine everytime i hear it. Great version.
I am 13 and my favourite Band is "The Band"!!! I love Leveon Helm... Good for your daughter

This is my favorite laid back band of all time, followed closely by Fairport Convention. Fun to listen to, and it sounds like they're having fun too.

Many thanks to my parents who had the foresight to introduce music like this to me at a young age.
EVERYBODY was lead singer in this performance! Today, 8/9/2023, we said goodby to another member of the Band, Robbie Robertson RIP.
It's a great recording. The one on "The Last Waltz" album is probably genuinely from the concert, but it's nice to have this one with the flashy Scorsese camera moves - especially giving the Staples their due.
exactly, when Mavis says "beautiful," it's like a kick in the heart.
I heard it for the first time.
Pops Staples had, probably, the most soulful voice ever.
Wow wonderful is that!! Soulful and heart felt
