    Garth Hudson doesn't get much credit and is the least known member of The Band but he is the one behind most of the music composition. Amazing musician!!

      If you read Robbie's book you will find Robbie had great respect for Garth and thought the world of his talent. Garth was introverted, in a band with some strong personalites, Levon, Robbie and a couple of very good looking guys with a lot of charisma, Rick and Robbie.

    wow, Ronnie's slide sounds awesome. What a great way to entertain the crown and give The Band a breather before their encore. And that signature Niel Young stomp is a classic. Wish I'd seen him in concert. (I may have in Jacksonville AL in the 1970s with the Stills Young Band, but I don't have a visual memory of that show)

    I watch this segment (and the rest of the concert) every year at Thanksgiving (I was a lucky attendee), but I don't know who is the keyboard player in the white shirt (to the left of Dr. John, in back) playing at the tail end of the Jam #2. Can anyone help fill in what might be the last unknown detail of this show for me?
    P.S. I already have the Dave Alexander/Omar Sharriff opening boogie-woogie upright piano on the main floor stage right/floor left identified --- when I was at the show, I was somewhat confused that maybe this turned out to be Pinetop Perkins from Muddy Waters' contingent. I was wrong of course, but I was just 20 and not at all steeped in the local blues scene.

      I wondered the same thing. He (or she?) is wearing a light colored shirt, sitting just behind Dr. John, who's taken residence on Garth's organ. Garth is on the grand piano, but it can't be Richard. The person's hair is totally wrong to be Richard. As somebody else said, most he and Ricky were enjoying themselves backstage w/ the likes of Van and Clapton. Wonder what folks like Ringo, Ronnie Wood, Stills or Neil remember of that part of the night. Sadly most are gone; you'd have to guess folks like Muddy, Pinetop and Bob Margolin might not have hung around. Or maybe the "bigtime" Hawk still has stories from then. Thanks for putting this together.

    Holy shit! Of course this didn't make the movie b/c Scorsese was charged with emphasizing RR. Look at Neil Young crushing it. Go boys. DMM PS: Ronnie Wood always said how tilted the movie was against the other Band members. This jam shows that.

    • @harlanginsberg7269
      @harlanginsberg7269 10 месяцев назад +1

      It wasn't only Ronnie Wood. All the other members of The Band felt the same way and talked about in books and interviews especially Helm. Did you notice in the beginning Robertson acting like grandmaster of the event. A really talented guy but an egotistical schmuck (he is part Jewish)

    • @hannejeppesen1809
      @hannejeppesen1809 10 месяцев назад

      Your last comment is anti semitic. Robbie was the one who set it up, it was his idea. Richard Manuel was not in good shape, Levon didn't like to be photograped. Give Robbie a break he was a genius.@@harlanginsberg7269

      @@harlanginsberg7269 What does Jewish have to do with anything? First of all The Last Waltz was Robbie's brainchild, he worked harder on it than anyone else. He's the one that got Scorsese to direct it. Besides that, Levon did like to be photographed, Richard felt the same way, he was not in good shape, Garth was an introvert, Rick is featured almost as much as Robbie, looking cool and sexy in a leather jacket playing pool, and showing Scorsese around the Shrangi Li. Levon is featured talking a Scorsese, and he certainly is seen in a lot of clips playing drums and singing. Robbie and Rick were the 2 photogenetic ones, and probably the most outgoing and charming, which is probably why they are seen more than the others, it is a movie after all, you need people with star power.
