This is a good micro look at The Band; the bass player is playing a violin. The drummer is playing a mandolin, The piano player is playing the drums, and the keyboard genius is playing an accordion. Each of these guys could play a half dozen instruments, and play them well. Just one of many reasons why this was perhaps the greatest 'Band' ever...
I am a woman and straight but I think Emmy Lou is one of the most beautiful women who ever lived - all wonderful hair, amazing cheekbones and beautiful eyes. What strikes me about her (possibly as a woman) is how modest she was (is). She is so different from today's pop divas who are all about body "hotness". She just stood there and sang (oh, and played an instrument).
Love The Band & Emmylou Harris...she could harmonize with anyone...such a pure voice! The Band is my favorite of all time...I was so sad to see them break up...
My mother was born in Evangeline, Louisiana in 1919. I remember sitting in the back seat of our 1954 New Yorker watching as my parents looked out of the windshield at Evangeline Oak, talking quietly. She died in 1957, shortly after that day, following a long and painful bout with breast cancer. I swear before I die I will revisit Evangeline Oak and lay a wreath to her.
My mom introduced me to them, in the late 60's. I was 16. The Band. Yes, kilian mcnamara, they were as good as you say, sir. I thank god that she let me hear them. She being God. Great music, people. Wonderful stuff. I'm so sorry they broke up, killed themselves, etc. Such is life. ahhh
what a group WOW. and Emmylou harris is beautiful with her long hair/ but the band , surely 1 of the best EVER groups. you just simply don't get rock/pop/daft boybands that can put out music like this great music anymore, wot a shame.d.riddell glasgow
OMG-- What a band in heaven, Levon, Rick Danko & Richard Manuel all re-united, & I'll bet Gram Parsons will fit in just fine.... Some of the finest musicians of our time. I am just thankful that I have been privileged to hear their music & know who they are.
My orange Tabby Cat loves this song . He lays next to me and closes his eyes and purrs when we listen to it ,then he starts "making his biscuits" ( the Cat version of the happy dance ) I think the harmonies and the soft fiddle must be so soothing to him 🧡🤍
I was a big fan of Emmylou but my only vision of her was on record covers until I saw this way back then! It left me totally gob-smacked & completely in love,
Here I am reviewing this unique music moment. Grandiose. And seeing the beautiful and innocent Emmylou 30 years ago I think she should also know today of the wonderful things she did. Emmylou is unique, wonderful .
was there ever so much talent assembled in one place? Bar Robbie, each member picks up another instrument as though it were his original. Then the gutsy sound of rick danko. Then the ethereal voice of emmylou. Levon in full flight. The good die young? Robbie's in fine form.
This song got its teeth into me and now, all I can do is hold on for dear life, as I am taken waltzing across this dusty and smokey abandoned dance hall.
I put on the Last Waltz DVD every once in a while and sing along with this song. 'High on the top of a hickory hill she stands in the lightning and thunder. Down on the river, the boat was a-sinkin'. She watched that queen go under". Vivid imagery and very powerful. EmmyLou.
Rick Danko's voice has yet to be rivaled, nor his cadence and the diction and enthusiasm. Thankfully we still have Emmylou. RIP Rick Danko. So much love.
I think this is the best version of this song ( which I love ) I first discovered this song when I watched The Last Waltz. I went to RUclips when I heard Levon Helms had passed away. Everyone is at the height of their musical abilities here. And the visuals are just mystical. R.I.P.
18 mo flashback, just in remembrance of those who were there, and grew up with, and those who have preceded.....and hope to hear them again,.....And if we don't have memory and appreciation of talent,in the afterlife, then I'm hesitant and "35pikes2glry",,,,,.I agree, and I'm a 63 yr old child of the 60's and 70's.....luv u for loving them!
Aside from the fact that this is a great tune, it showcases the incredible talents of the various members of THE BAND ............ Levon, Ricky, and Richard ......peace.
I've seen this before - a few times over the years - but I never realized how PERFECT it is. As Michael Ladd said "As great as music gets ...period... " The way they sound so complete - even tho they're all playing different instruments than they usually play, everything is balanced perfectly - Emmy sounds like she's always been there . The only sad thing was the drummer - I think he committed suicide - time has passed since then - quite a few of them are gone now - but we have this magical little 'gem' . The Band - the best.
Went to school with Rick Danko. Rick and his brothers used to play at the High School Sock Hops......Good old Simcoe Comp. School. Then on to the Summer Gardens in Port Dover. Those were the days. Will never return.
I could listen to these guys sing this song forever - and in fact have, ever since I was 11 years old (that's how old I was when the Last Waltz came out) and I am now 48. This music and these people were the real thing with real talent! All my love to "The Band" and Emmylou.
I have always thought it and am so glad you have confirmed it. I so wished to believe in her kindness (to me that is the only human value that matters). Amazing talent and soul; those too. Her hair; Emmy-Lou has the most amazing hair I have veer seen - now and then..
What I love about this, apart obviously from the amazing music, is how that can just up and switch intruments to suit the song, Richard going from piano to drums, Rick from Bass to fiddle etc, these are seriously talented musicians, very very rare to see mainstream people today with this kind of talent
Anyone ever see Roger Waters's "The Wall - Live in Berlin"? Worth checking out. Danko, Helms and Hudson's performances are outstanding. Especially their number with Van Morrison.
Robbie Robertson, very stoic playing guitar on the right, wrote this song in S.F. from the Greek-Latin style poem "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, published in 1847; "Evangeline from the Maritimes" Islands off East Coast of Canada. Robbie changed & improved the storyline, in my opinion; he is brilliant. Also watch him in a wonderful 1998 PBS Documentary, "Making A Noise: A Native American Journey With Robbie Robertson." He has Mohawk ancestry; his mother was raised on Six Nations Reservation, respectively. It's done well, inspiring & uplifting; Robbie is a shining Star and obviously well read.
Emmy. Beauty. Dignity. Talent. Read it n weep Beyoncé.

+buckfan1969 Not too much three fifths of the band are amazing singers as well
You will get no argument here.
That's the main reason why they were quite literally called "The Band". These guys could play anything... any instrument... any genre...
These guys were the best thing to ever happen to Bob Dylan
God was working overtime when he created Emmylou
You got that right! And he might as well of retired when he finished!
She and Levon sound so good together. Levon was a real one.
Levon on mandolin, Richard on drums, Rick does the fiddling and Garth is squeezing the ol' box. Those guys...
I am a woman and straight but I think Emmy Lou is one of the most beautiful women who ever lived - all wonderful hair, amazing cheekbones and beautiful eyes. YES
Yes. Absolutely.
Emmylou and The Band- Wow! Where have I been all my life????
Love The Band & Emmylou Harris...she could harmonize with anyone...such a pure voice! The Band is my favorite of all time...I was so sad to see them break up...
t otally agree with you !
thins dont last forever live it up people

This is great tune with Emmylou Harris and the Band from The Last Waltz...she is a smoking hot singer and beautiful Lady.
Peace Y
Emmylou is a real life princess
My mom introduced me to them, in the late 60's. I was 16. The Band. Yes, kilian mcnamara, they were as good as you say, sir. I thank god that she let me hear them. She being God. Great music, people. Wonderful stuff. I'm so sorry they broke up, killed themselves, etc. Such is life. ahhh

I can't get enough of this song. Rick's voice is so beautiful......
You are so right
@@Harrygreen111 I am listening to it again lol
I loved Rick Danko, amazing voice and bass player!
My orange Tabby Cat loves this song . He lays next to me and closes his eyes and purrs when we listen to it ,then he starts "making his biscuits" ( the Cat version of the happy dance ) I think the harmonies and the soft fiddle must be so soothing to him 🧡🤍
Emmylou...so beautiful, then and now.
Perfection in American music.
Emmylou, influencing my taste in women for life
Everyone should have a copy of The Last Waltz, but crying indeed it would leave you. The DVD is nothing short of superb.
I was a big fan of Emmylou but my only vision of her was on record covers until I saw this way back then! It left me totally gob-smacked & completely in love,
+J English I don't think there exists a single half-sensitive man who wouldn't fall for Emmylou watching this clip.
Thank you. *Gob smacked* a great new word for me.
Here I am reviewing this unique music moment. Grandiose. And seeing the beautiful and innocent Emmylou 30 years ago I think she should also know today of the wonderful things she did. Emmylou is unique, wonderful .

Perfection
Most awesome group ever!!!! Emmy has a fantastic voice
God, she looked gorgeous.
Levon and Rick's harmonies are unbelievable.
I saw Emmylou at the Rainbow in 1970 something. Luxury Liner had just been released. I'm still in love with her.
This song got its teeth into me and now, all I can do is hold on for dear life, as I am taken waltzing across this dusty and smokey abandoned dance hall.
I listen to this song over and over just to hear Rick Danko's voice! Beautiful!!!!! Love Levon too the whole Band were amazing.
I am listening to them now! Sweet music.
i go visit rick and levon every week here in woodstock where they rest means so much to me
That is what a voice is supposed to sound like. So pure and perfect with no help from digital *anything*
I could never ever get tired of watching levon doing his thing on this. just gives me goosebumps.
i do not only like this song.....I love it... I listen to it every night
I put on the Last Waltz DVD every once in a while and sing along with this song.
'High on the top of a hickory hill she stands in the lightning and thunder. Down on the river, the boat was a-sinkin'. She watched that queen go under".
Vivid imagery and very powerful.
EmmyLou.
Emmylou Harris is amazing. Love this.
Ellie Marson
She got more stunning with age. Timeless beauty!!!
Rick Danko indeed had a wonderful, soulful singing voice. I'll bet most rock and roll fans have never heard of him. It's a shame.
Richard Manuel on drums , Levon's playing the mandolin and me , sitting at home crying .
R.I.P Levon , Rick , Richard
A unique sound we'll never hear again. Really beautiful.
Rick Danko's voice has yet to be rivaled, nor his cadence and the diction and enthusiasm. Thankfully we still have Emmylou. RIP Rick Danko. So much love.
fabuleux concert d'adieu....beaucoup de larmes ont coulés à la fin, ce fut une belle époque
translation fabulous farewell concert many tears have in the end it was a beautiful era
Yessir! And she still is. Great song too! Love the cajun style fiddle and accordion.
I think this is the best version of this song ( which I love ) I first discovered this song when I watched The Last Waltz. I went to RUclips when I heard Levon Helms had passed away. Everyone is at the height of their musical abilities here. And the visuals are just mystical. R.I.P.
Every time i see Garth Hudson , it seems like he was just so happy to be playing music.
What fabulous talents all together. And three gone to their rest.....Thanks for posting

Thank You Mr. Helm for the great music. Rest in Peace.
I won't..I loved him so much I named my son after him!!!
Aside from the fact that this is a great tune, it showcases the incredible talents of the various members of THE BAND ............ Levon, Ricky, and Richard ......peace.

over and over again... love that song
The Band und Emmylou Harris, einfach schön !!!!!! für Dich mein Schatz !!!!!!
This is by far one of the all time great songs, done by a great band and Emmylou.
I've seen this before - a few times over the years - but I never realized how PERFECT it is. As Michael Ladd said "As great as

Long time a go but not forgotten.
Gawd Rick killed that intro ,that was so great.
I could listen to these guys sing this song forever - and in fact have, ever since I was 11 years old (that's how old I was when the Last Waltz came out) and I am now 48. This music and these people were the real thing with real talent! All my love to "The Band" and Emmylou.
Emmylou Emmylou we can not get enough of her.
Fantastic song and video of Emmylou and The Band.
Thank you for sharing this angel with us.
Emmy Lou is the perfect singer/musician to play with The Band. Gram Parsons would agree.🕊🕊🕊🕊
What a beautiful performance. Nothing we have now 'a days holds a light to this stuff.
Wow very lovely song and good singers too

RIP Levon Helm.
I have always thought it and am so glad you have confirmed it. I so wished to believe in her kindness (to me that is the only human value that matters). Amazing talent and soul; those too. Her hair; Emmy-Lou has the most amazing hair I have veer seen - now and then..
I agree that Emmy Lou is without equal ,but be fair, many musicians and lovers of music regard The Band as one of the greatest in history as well
What the voice of an angel sounds like.... 😍
What I love about this, apart obviously from the amazing music, is how that can just up and switch intruments to suit the song, Richard going from piano to drums, Rick from Bass to fiddle etc, these are seriously talented musicians, very very rare to see mainstream people today with this kind of talent

Version made by a band from Poland - ruclips.net/video/9U2JVuofNmo/видео.html
Awesome! Manuel looks a bit like Animal, the Muppet Show drummer, when he's playing the drums! And Levon is so great, rest in peace man
talent, composition, story telling, melodies.
Anyone ever see Roger Waters's "The Wall - Live in Berlin"? Worth checking out. Danko, Helms and Hudson's performances are outstanding. Especially their number with Van Morrison.

Fantastic song done by to of my favorite artist
Robbie Robertson, very stoic playing guitar on the right, wrote this song in S.F. from the Greek-Latin style poem "Evangeline" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, published in 1847; "Evangeline from the Maritimes" Islands off East Coast of Canada. MISSED VERY MUCH.
This is very precious! Beautiful and so nice to hear - over and over! Bless you, Charlie
