This project was released shortly after Hurricane Katrina visited my house. My life was in disarray. I was already a huge fan of both MK and Emmylou but wasn’t aware they had collaborated. My daughter Ashley gave me the CD and DVD right when I needed it. I still listen to it every week, and watch it every month. It’s among my most treasured possessions, I felt privileged to own it. Now the world can enjoy it on RUclips.
That’s one of my absolute favorite songs. There have been a lot of great covers of that song as well. The Indigo Girls covered it on one their early albums. I saw them live in June 2023 and the highlight of that show for me was Amy Ray singing Romeo and Juliet on stage by herself with just a guitar and her voice.
I'm listening to Dire Straits and Mr Knopfler since the late 1970s... Sultans of swing, Walk of Life, Heavy Metal et al. All songs are evergreen. I listen to Walk of Life for mood booster whenever I suffer blue swings. It's a pity many Indians are yet to discover and understand this gem of a band. Mr Knopfler has outlasted audio playback technology evolution from Vinyl albums, cassette tapes, CDs, Pen Drives, and now RUclips via Bluetooth speaker!
What a stunningly beautiful concert you all gave to us. For our part we believe all the Road running achieved your special kind of emotional enrichment for so many people! Not in vain. Thank you. It is listened to over and over and enjoyed.
It's hard to describe how very, very special these two people are. Thank you so very much for the pieces of your lives you have given us through the years.
Mr. Knopfler, I haven't had the chance to hear you live in this life, I guess I won't. But I am very lucky to be contemporary with you in this period of the universe. I listened to you at university, I got married, I listened to you, my 20-year-old son also listens to you and now he is going to university. How amazing you are…artists live forever with their works. You are a great example of this and we are the lucky generation. Thank you, may your life be long and healthy.
I remember driving through a blizzard from Aviemore to get to the Brothers in Arms concert in Edinburgh, late December 1985. We had to stop and put chains on the car tyres. It was so very much worth the effort. I have loved Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler from the Sultans of Swing beginning. And the music is still my daily life listening. It makes me tearful just writing this. Thank you, Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits, for an adulthood of exemplary music.

@@zarkogajinov4454I'm a praying woman. When I pray for young women whose lives are full of hardship, disappointment and grief, I listen to two songs: Emmylou's "Red Dirt Girl" and Dolly's "Down from Dover." Extraordinary singers and songwriters that give voice to the human condition.
Emmylou Harris is like a fine wine - gets better and better. And Knopfler - one of the all time great rock guitarist. These two go together like wine and cheese.
Emmylou is one of those very few lucky women who get better in every aspect the older they get. Been in love with Emmylou for many years - but don't tell my missus; 3 days ago we passed 45 years married and I might not make it to 46 if she found out -:)
These two greats combine to give one of the best collections of songs anywhere. The live album is even better than the brilliant studio one. EmmyLou singing Red Dirt Girl is sublime. The melancholy in her voice nails this superb song. I could probably say that about everything she sings. Knopfler is just a pure master of his trade. One of the musical geniuses of our time. The whole album is listenable to on repeat. I got the CD/DVD ages ago, but I hope others may now discover this gem also.... 😎
Who knows how many dual (or more) guitar leads I've heard...a bunch, and some of them stupendously talented duos (Duane Allman and Eric Clapton!) (Duane & Dickey Betts!) (Santana & Neal Schon!) and many more, at the peak of their powers. But this is up there with any...so, so gorgeous, beautiful phrasing, tone, interplay...just sublime. "Musical masters" indeed (that's the truth!) No matter what I say though...it fails to express how much I love it ;-) And then that one's done, and you wish it wasn't...but then it's on to the next masterpiece, gorgeously played and sung. What a great, great performance of terrific songs by a superb ensemble...
Springsteen spoke of his signature guitar as an extension of his body ; his arm, after all the years. Your guitar is an extension of your heart and soul. You are a true conduit to the incredible beauty of the Universe.
I cannot understand why he’s not more popular in the world ….. he beats the Beatles , the stones , Clapton , on and on ….. it’s absolutely perfection in the art of music and expression …. I mean style and cool presence on stage …. The collaboration with so many classical , blues , jazz , country , rock musicians …… Markie is unbelievable 😮😮😮😮
Don’t put down other artists! Comparing Mark to others is small minded and petty! I love Mark and Emmylou as well! He is definitely recognized as one of the best!
Grazie❤
Exceptional music and musicianship, but also huge kudos for who recorded/mixed this video, the sound is great (not to talk about the tone of the instruments, especially Mark's Les Paul...)
I haven't heard many of these tracks, but when the talents of Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris come together I think they could sing a phone book and it would be a mellow, pleasing relaxing experience. They sing with soul and play guitar expertly. And the band deserves a mention for being so damn good in the background.
Bought emmylous album when I was in my teens, thought she was stunningly beautiful, now I'm 60 and yup...she's still stunningly beautiful. Timeless and her voice still has it, awesome to see her onstage after all these years. As for Mark; the first 3 Dire Straights LPs have been in my collection since they came out, love, six blade knife, and ALL of the first LP Lady writer, etc. Once the record industry got ahold of them, that was the end for me, would'nt give a nickle for money for nothin but I still play the hell out of #1
No words can describe this concert for me , the perfection, the artistic level of expertise, the extremely talented artists/ and beautiful human beings, leaves me ……. Speechless ❤😮
Yes, a beautiful concert and steeped in American folk/country music - some of the key influences that have shaped Mark's music and guitar playing across half a century. The only things I'm missing here are that they might have included a few tracks from the first two Dire Straits albums, with their jazz/country infuenced playing and soulful solos, songs like "In the Gallery", "Once Upon a Time in the West" (edit: West, not Wurst!) 😄 and "Single-Handed Sailor" would have fit in seamlessly here - and also, I would have loved if Emmylou had been given a newly written verse or two to make her a part of the glowing rendition of "Romeo and Juliet". But those are just minor points (and the early Straits can be seen/heard live in two outstanding German recordings from 1979: the Rockpalast show (live on TV) from Essen and the Cologne live album. Both of them here on RUclips.)🎸
I just came home from the hospital and have to lay down for the next few days. After watching "Down From The Mountain" today I came across this show. Two incredible musicians and singers with no ego just a true love of music. This is the first time I watched a concert video and was actually clapping between songs. Thank you Mark and Emmylou for sharing your talent and going out and making people happy. I couldn't have found a better way to spend my afternoon recovering then with you two in my living room playing such beautiful music. And thank you to all the world class musicians who signed on for the tour to help make just pure magical music together.
This combination should have done several recordings together because they are a perfect fit, their voices blend nicely oh man I can never get tired listening to MK from the times of Dire Straits and the very best Madam Emmylou Harris. Thank you for wonderful songs!!!
My significant other and me have had the CD on rotation pretty regularly for years now...wonderful collaboration! Of course, we have had other Mark Knophler CDs on rotation pretty regularly! And Emily...she has collaborated with so many musicians I like, and I have enjoyed her music since when she played "braless". Thank you for giving us this live concert on RUclips!
Wow! Emmylou as a guitarist 🎸 in a rock band playing Speedway at Nazareth! ❤ She is going strong like Malcolm Young of AC/DC ❤ Kudos to all these world-class musicians in the band.

Sometimes magnificence unfolds in front of you and afterward - you realize that is what you just experienced. Not everything was perfect but, that is exactly why it was and remains, perfect. To you. This concert is that, for this music lover and appreciator of musical magnificence. Thank you Mark, Emmylou and every other band member. Each musician amazing. Collectively - again, Magnificent! Covering some of my fave DS tunage brought tears to my heart - sooooo many memories, so much living lived, love loved, love lost - to a DS soundtrack….
One of my fondest memories of my youth...listening to the Sultans of Swing on 8 track in 1979 on a warm spring day, driving through the Catskills with the top down! Love these two musicians beyond belief and have had the wonderful fortune of seeing both in concert 🙏🏼
There is nothing more i can say about this group of musicians that has not already been said. But can i say a big thankyou to the sound recorders and film makers for recording this concert so perfectly they dont miss a note. I can watch and listen to this whenever i need to step away from this crazy world and it reminds me that it is not that bad when there are artists like these given there all to entertain us. Thank you all.❤❤😂

That guitar solo with Mark and Richard in “I dug up a diamond” is the most beautiful thing in music ever..
Agreed
Yes. You are right in 100%. Super.
"Musical masters" indeed (that's the truth!) No matter what I say though...it fails to express how much I love it ;-)
And then that one's done, and you wish it wasn't...but then it's on to the next masterpiece, gorgeously played and sung. What a great, great performance of terrific songs by a superb ensemble...
@@jimsibley1651not forgetting Felder and Walsh
Springsteen spoke of his signature guitar as an extension of his body ; his arm, after all the years. Your guitar is an extension of your heart and soul. You are a true conduit to the incredible beauty of the Universe.
❤
Mark is one of the best. I really like him and his music. He's great
I cannot understand why he’s not more popular in the world ….. he beats the Beatles , the stones , Clapton , on and on ….. it’s absolutely perfection in the art of music and expression …. I mean style and cool presence on stage …. The collaboration with so many classical , blues , jazz , country , rock musicians …… Markie is unbelievable 😮😮😮😮
He was with Dire Straits if that helps
@@jeannetterichie1027I think everyone knows that! He's a superhero ❤️
That's exactly the reason he's not in the top 5 megastars; true class is not for the masses.

Don’t put down other artists! Comparing Mark to others is small minded and petty! I love Mark and Emmylou as well! He is definitely recognized as one of the best!
Great to hear these 2 together - such good music!
💣👍
Hallo! Eines meiner Lieblingskonzerte. Alle Musiker in Bestform. 😁wunderbar
Marvelous and outstanding dear Mark as usual… thank God that your music existed
Their album is pure gold, i can't tell how many times i've listened to it.... fantastic to hear it( and more) live
Grazie❤
Thank you so much for putting this on RUclips and sharing, absolutely fantastic...beautiful music, beautiful people, music brings us all together xx
Exceptional music and musicianship, but also huge kudos for who recorded/mixed this video, the sound is great (not to talk about the tone of the instruments, especially Mark's Les Paul...)
Mark, and Emmylou, TOGETHER?!? What a treat! And to think, this happened back in 2006. How come I was never told of such goodness before?
I haven't heard many of these tracks, but when the talents of Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris come together I think they could sing a phone book and it would be a mellow, pleasing relaxing experience. They sing with soul and play guitar expertly. And the band deserves a mention for being so damn good in the background.
Being a Native Texan, and ancestors way way way back from Ireland and Scotland, thank you for the concert🤗🌻🤠
Thank you for forty years of Road Running !
Mark you are the best ❤
Bought emmylous album when I was in my teens, thought she was stunningly beautiful, now I'm 60 and yup...she's still stunningly beautiful. Timeless and her voice still has it, awesome to see her onstage after all these years.
As for Mark; the first 3 Dire Straights LPs have been in my collection since they came out, love, six blade knife, and ALL of the first LP Lady writer, etc. Once the record industry got ahold of them, that was the end for me, would'nt give a nickle for money for nothin but I still play the hell out of #1
I'm sorry for you. I love everything Mark Knopfler has done!
No words can describe this concert for me , the perfection, the artistic level of expertise, the extremely talented artists/ and beautiful human beings, leaves me ……. Speechless ❤😮
This is us is as good as it gets. Is anyone hot in here or is it just me??
Magnifico!!!! Bravo bravo!!!
R.I.P. EmmyLou ❤

I’ve been wanting to see and hear this full concert for a long time! Love Mark and Emmylou!!
May the good Lord bless Mark and Emmylou many many years in this journey called Life.
This combination should have done several recordings together because they are a perfect fit, their voices blend nicely oh man I can never get tired listening to MK from the times of Dire Straits and the very best Madam Emmylou Harris. Thank you for wonderful songs!!!
Mark’s guitar, Emmylou’s voice, both have gotten better with age! The audience were so lucky to witness these two icons together!
My two favorite musicians.
🎸🎻🎹🎼🎶🎵🎷🥁
My significant other and me have had the CD on rotation pretty regularly for years now...wonderful collaboration! Of course, we have had other Mark Knophler CDs on rotation pretty regularly! And Emily...she has collaborated with so many musicians I like, and I have enjoyed her music since when she played "braless". Thank you for giving us this live concert on RUclips!
Wow!
Emmylou as a guitarist 🎸 in a rock band playing Speedway at Nazareth! ❤
She is going strong like Malcolm Young of AC/DC ❤
Kudos to all these world-class musicians in the band.
On "So Far Away" too...🎸🎸
Incredible
Fantastic concert!!!❤🎸❤🎸❤
Just listened to and watched this concert and absolutely loved it! I'm 76 and in Australia but never listened to Mark solo!
You just gotta watch his videos here like Sailing to Philadelphia; Sky and Water; Time knows no Sorrow; and with Jimmy Nail in Big River...

I’m humbled and awestruck. Listening to beautiful music for cPTSD is very healing. I should probably listen more often.
I do love Mark, Emmylou and all of them .. this must be my video play list. Thank you all ❤
Divine music 🎧 done perfectly fine. Bless you all. Cheers Mark. Long live musics soul!🙏👌

5 decades for me with her and I'm still in love with her! 🤓🥁🥳........... and him 🤭
Me too
So give me warmth
When I ‘m down..
His music is a big to me..
One of my fondest memories of my youth...listening to the Sultans of Swing on 8 track in 1979 on a warm spring day, driving through the Catskills with the top down! Love these two musicians beyond belief and have had the wonderful fortune of seeing both in concert 🙏🏼
Wonderful how they both keep this music culture alive ....at such a high artistic level. Thank you thank you 😘😘😘
Emmylou.. Such a GREAT specimen of a WOMEN...
What a great recording, one of my all time favourites. And Emmylou, an ethereal voice. It melts my heart.
Glorious pairing, great talents…Beautiful music❤
There is nothing more i can say about this group of musicians that has not already been said. But can i say a big thankyou to the sound recorders and film makers for recording this concert so perfectly they dont miss a note. I can watch and listen to this whenever i need to step away from this crazy world and it reminds me that it is not that bad when there are artists like these given there all to entertain us. Thank you all.❤❤😂
Ok. Now I know what a definition of "Perfection" is.
I was having an awful day today, dealing with the ugliness and human tragedy that is the emergency room where I work. Walk of Life in my playlist led me to stumble into this gem, and never has staying late to finish patient charts been such a wonderful experience. Mark Knopfler and EmmyLou Harris...this is what's on God's playlist when He has a rough day.

Danny Cummins is quite an underrated drummer. His performance in Speedway at Nazareth is simply sensational.
Great concert, great collaboration! How I love seeing Emmylou and her trademark J200. Mark could make a one string cigar box guitar sound great. Wish I could have seen this show in person.
This intro to Romeo and Juliet gets me every time. Those are some of the most beautiful tones ever put forth. Thank you Mark, Emmylou and Co. for this amazing music and keeping it going
Mark I love your music since only 40 years but now that we’re old your guitar and your voice are flowing to paradise
Grazie.
