The current ending of the movie is perfect. When the police car shows up, the audience knows instantly what's about to happen, and then it doesn't happen, and it's exhilarating. It's a pure Hitchcock moment. And this was his directorial debut? Damn.
Really excited to see whatever he makes next.

and you are very ignorant the skin color wasn't attraction of the movie, the family itself was batshit crazy discovered a ground braking brain transplant method was only fueled by the fact that the grandpa felt jealousy against black people becase he lost the olympic against one and rather than admitting defeat he blames genes as to why he didn't won, wanting to be black to get better "genes" was nothing to do with racism infact the last guy didn't care about the color he only wanted to be able to see again. If racism is all you saw and you couln't get on the shoes of the main character because villians are wuite and main is black the you are a very simple minde individual.
Jordan's mind is so attractive to me. He's so intellectual and intelligent while being charming and witty. He knows how to switch between them. I love that about him. Im proud to call myself a fan, watching him in key and peele, going to see keanu in theaters (and loving it) and now seeing such a wonderful change into the creation of this movie and all the meaning behind it. I am finding out just how genius he was all along, although their comedy was nothing short of it. So wonderful to see his journey and look forward to seeing more. Love you jordan !!!

Of all the writers at this table that I admire, I hope Jordan Peele wins Best Screenplay for "Get Out." It's the perfect melding of function and form, the idea of showing racism through the lens of a genre horror movie is downright genius and it absolutely was the movie that was needed at the moment it came out. Is it a comedy? A horror movie? Both? Who cares, it's just a great great movie.
It'd be nice, but look at last year. I mean fucking Manchester by the Sea won over The Lobster, which was in the same situation as Get Out. Sadly oscar bait is too strong, but hey there are always exceptions!

In my opinion, the happy ending ties it all together as a horror satire. So many movies just take the easy way out and kill the characters or leave the ending open. He’s right. When the cop car pulled up at the end, I thought he was gonna go to prison. I envisioned the original ending, and was relieved that it was just his friend.
Yeah, I agree. The only thing I would say differently is that when the cop car pulled up at the end, I did _not_ think that the main character was going to go to prison. I thought he was about to be shot dead! I was *immensely* relieved and pleasantly surprised that we got a happy ending! I would like to see more tense movies end in a more satisfying way.

The only racism that is hard to tackle nowadays is racism that black people have towards other races. Cause no one actually gives a shit when black people are racist towards whites, Hispanics,Asians, etc
what struck me about "Get out" was that to me it conveyed the experience of being black in a predominantly white population similar to having social anxiety/paranoia (except it's not all just in your mind). Expecially the scene in which the protagonist walks upstairs ad all the partyguests turn around and look at him in the exact same moment. I wasn't sure at that point, whether that was the reality of the scene, or just in the protagonists mind, but it reminded me of my paranoid thoughts as an anxious kid and even though I'm white, I felt like I had caught a glimpse into what it must sometimes feel like to be black.

Recently re-watched Get Out and man does it still hold up. In fact, I enjoyed it even more than I did when I first saw it in theaters.
Freshly done watching this movie for the first time. As a white dude in the middle class, I loved every moment. It’s scary to think about that fact that, although this is a dramatic version of some black peoples thoughts of how white people view them, there is a gigantic group of HUMANS that live their lives terrified of how they’re going to be treated in a room or setting full of people that wear a different color than them.
Super happy Jordan Peele pulled this off. Our country, and the world, needed to see this. Even though there will be plenty of close-minded people that take it as a personal attack on their kind. Very cool. Very thrilled for Jordan and could not be more excited that this could open up a door for more movies bringing to light a very dark, and very real problem.

I can feel his discomfort as the only person of color at this table. I can also feel their discomfort with the subject matter.
I'm not so sure about that, Jordan Peele is half white. In fact, he was raised by his white mother. Perhaps in other situations, I can understand how he'd be uncomfortable in a room full of white folks, but he seemed fine at a table with 6 of his peers discussing film.
I know he's half white. I also know that America still uses the One Drop Rule. If you have one relative of sub-Saharan African descent, you are legally classified as black. His driver's license says "Black" so does Tiger Woods' license. Besides, most whites don't care if you're half white. It's not good enough for them. They will still treat a biracial person like a black man.
Assuming that I'm a failure who's lazy and waiting for a handout is a racist, stereotypical assumption in itself. I was honorably discharged from the military. I have a master's degree, and I work full-time, making $50k per year. I also speak 2 other languages fluently. However, if you want to make the bigoted assumption that I'm a stereotypical black male, then you're the problem, not me. You're not putting me in the sunken place.

A lot of you are commenting that it shouldn’t be categorized as a horror film. But think about being a black person watching this movie and immediately noticing all of the micro aggressions that we experience everyday. They sounded off like alarms. Things as small as her dad saying he would have voted Obama in for a third term. Completely out of place and unnecessary to say. I mean black people experience these subtle micro aggressions from white people all the time. The auction where they are auctioning someone off like property. This is not just a scene to make the movie go by. This is how slaves were sent to different plantations throughout the country, by being auctioned off like the property they were treated as. The buying and selling of organs. ILLEGALLY. This is actually happening in the world where black bodies are ending up found without body parts. And missing a liver or a kidney! It’s TOO REAL. This movie could’ve only been written by a black person because anyone who is white would not experience these things. The truth and the immediate identifying with this protagonist, (and what he experiences) amongst black people is the true horror. It deserves the categorization.

You should check out Quora for more in-depth answers about this. im a white person (make that clear from the get-go) and ahhh if you are talking about those people, Jordan/Obama with a black person because Jordan/Obama are black then you are essentially saying to that person 'i am identifying you by your blackness first instead of as just a fellow human being. Get to know someone maybe they have a different perspective than you because they are black yes and maybe its also because they are a teacher or a journalist or an artist. What is also important to remember is you don't need to have a lot of shit in common with people to have a connection or even a good conversation.
Saying you love_______ or _______ who are black is not "hey look how similar we are(/ might be) im into what you're into" in reality, you have just presumed someone's interests based on the color of their skin.
Yes Obama the first black president is important to black people and yeh Jordan is super popular and represents, but if you cant talk to a person without deliberately naming people whom you know share their culture, then maybe you shouldn't be talking with them until you learn better conversation skills and do more research on racism.
My advice to you dude is to watch a lot of different films a helluva lot of ted talks, reading lots of books( take notice of who is the author and why they have the perspective they do). Basically, figure out what you like! figure out yourself and learn about others, empathy is everything. Learn about the world and talk to a lot of people, lots of different people of different professions and nationalities and skin colors, religious beliefs, food preferences, music tastes oh and don't be a racist and don't be sloppy. Keep being curious though! the world is a brilliant and terrifying beautiful place and you have the ability to be a part of that hopefully in a good way. Just be curious and don't be racist. Now go forth and quora and reddit.

Here are some female writers which films already comes out AT LEAST in festival circuit this year and gain recognition: Sofia Coppola (The Beguiled), Tracy Oliver, Karen Mccullah, and Erica Rivinoja (Girl's Trip), Angela Workman (The Zookeeper's Wife), Dee Rees (Co-writer of Mudbound), Chloé Zao (The Rider). I'm sure there are many more that I miss. So please, get more women writers who deserves recognition on that table!!!!
Unfortunately, the Roundtable only reviews Oscar contending writers. Aside from Dee Rees, all those writers you mentioned are not Oscar contending. If its all men that are Oscar contending, THR can't do anything about it.

No, they mostly didn't (yes, you can have that illusion). All you have to do is look at most comments and reviews to see that most people celebrating the movie didn't understand the bulk of it. And that ending was typical Hollywood happy ending bullshit. The subtextual comments about racial divide were so on the nose that those congratulating themselves for "getting it" are the most condescending, arrogant viewers of all. Like the whites at the garden party in the movie, except I'm seeing lots of minorities in America being every bit as arrogant and divisive about the movie's obvious messages.
