My "at home" business has been machine embroidery up until this year. I have all this mesh and ribbon that I have played with and I thought maybe I better figure out how to do a better job. So, here I am learning. I have been getting your emails and watching your videos for a few years. Yes my dear, you are an inspiration. I signed up for Jennifer's workshop.
Laurie, I have been doing that as well, but now I am thinking of having an Etsy shop. My family does not want to keep getting my stuff! lol I have a really cool 12 needle embroidery machine, something I know lots of people don't have. I have been doing a lot of research on opening a shop and what I could sell. I have gotten pretty good at it over the years and I can make a lot of stuff, like emb. blocks for a quilt, or for a pillow, or something like that. I am seriously considering it. I also LOVE shopping for supplies.
My husband and I just opened our Etsy shop. A bit nervous, however, I have faith this is what the Lord wants me to do in this season. Your story is HIS story! Prayer warrior!

I started making wreaths from strips of ribbon, because I wanted to decorate my front door for each month. My friends asked me to make them one too - and paid me! I started my Etsy shop as a place for friends to see all of my designs. 4 months ago, I got serious about selling them. :)

I feel the same way. Because I prayed and I guess I was looking for an alright reply like that's going to happen. It made me thing about the little nudge gave me about its not just about the money.
I've had a hard time selling at first took me 7 months to figure it out. Now sales kept on coming and I'm so thankful to God for blessing my tiny shop! Even though I've only sold 58 so far, ETSY brought lots of joy in my life haha. A good side job while in College!

Julie, you are so inspiring! You are so right, when your back is against the wall, God blesses your efforts and helps you to develop those talents that He gave you. I don't think anyone really knows what they are doing - we all just put our best foot forward and do the best we can do - all of us. Everything is a learning curve but if we're willing to put in the effort eventually we will succeed. Made me think of a saying: 'Failure cannot live with persistence'. This is the 3rd video I've watch while editing, I've had a rough couple of weeks and you are giving me hope I am a stay at home mom of 3, and my husband is our only income also. I have been crafting since I can remember. My grandmother taught me to cross stitch when I was very young. I love crafting. But have always given my products to family as gifts. Even then my family said I should sell my crafts. Every time I posted my crafts on Facebook..my friends asked why I wasn't selling. But I could never figure out why anyone would pay me when it was so easy to make. But my friends kept telling me..no there was no way they could attempt it.

Hi, I just came across your channel not to long ago. I just want to thank you for sharing this, I have been praying. I have a five year old and I work a 8 to 4 job it's a blessing because I can have him at the same school I work at. There is a feeling that I could not fight that I want to work from home so I can have more time with my son, especially with all that is going on. When you said teach it hit home because as a assistant teacher I'm always teaching. So many creative thoughts fill my mind a day and I want to share these. I knew it was time for a change especially after my 5 year old told me get up and go work on your computer. I thought this must be God, he has no idea I am creating a store. Thank you so much.

Hi Julie thanks for sharing this I have gone through all of the doubts ,the ie I don't think I am good enough etc . me and my husband have been doing crafts for over 12 yrs at our church craft fair but now we are ready to spread our world to others

Julie,thank you for your incouragement I have just got into making wreaths and at a stand still where to start to sell. I started watching videos and didn't realize that I had talent to make them but lost on selling I really amazed myself .I have always worked factory work and never had the time to do much of anything except that now at the age of almost 66 trying something new because medical reasons I can't do factory work anymore so that's where I'm at now trying to make extra money to survive on because having a limited income is hard .you had to be my word of incouragement this morning. So appreciate all you have shared here and speaking of your own life and struggles. I have really buckled down since the past Christmas season writing down my business goals for 2019. I felt like ok Lord if you want me to keep doing my business then it has to get so much busier with more money coming in. I have trusted him and he has not let me down. Oh the faith he has grown. Thank you for this very encouraging video. I have a day job which I like well enough, but I can't see myself doing only that job for the rest of my life. I would love to start selling my sewn items soon, and to start to have more control over my week rather than having a nine-to-five that locks me in.

I just recently got a shed to work my wreath business because I've got wreath supplies all over the house. How do I know which wreaths ppl are looking at on my Etsy shop? That was very interesting to learn. You are such a great teacher. Also, where'd you find the cabinets that are in your office behind you? How do I attrack ppl to my Etsy shop when there are so many wreaths on Etsy?

Hey I'm only been crocheting for a year but I'm still learning and watching people who inspire me and you have gave me some good tips I'll definitely be watching but right now my husband is the only one who is working I'm afraid im not good enough to sell or have the money to sell on line because I don't drive I have panic attacks and but I will find a way to try reach out and help other thank you for your help your awesome
That's the beauty of selling online. You don't have to leave your house. They pick up mail directly from your home. You are good enough already!

We have been making jewelry since 2012 and started our Etsy shop in 2013 just to support our hobby. I let it go for a few years up until last year after I couldn't work anymore because of back problems. . My Husband supports us but now the jewelry making is my job so I can continue to afford to keep my horse who I have had since he was 6 months old. I will try your ideas, thank you for sharing. I have made a couple sales last week after working harder on taking better pictures. Custom orders have picked up too. I like them best because I can make the items to the customers specifications and I find more enjoyment from that because their pendant is that much more special when they helped design it.. And it takes less guesswork for me. Besides taking more time with the pictures I plan to make more You Tube videos showing how we make the jewelry step by step. I don't want to have to sell my horse so I am very motivated to try anything to make more sales. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
Thank you for your advice. I try to make money from my art and I recently had this nudging from God that its not just about the money. I understand about the reaching out and discovering things about myself but I also was like but the money I need. I guess the money needs to be the after thought but like you said it gets a little discouraging. Maybe I should do something else along with my etsy shop. At least this youtube video has got me thinking other things besides money.

I want you know what a difference you have made for me... I'm retired and I just didn't know what to do. I saw you and Lori on RUclips and I was wondering, Could I do that? I watch one of you inspiring video on how you started. I didn't have any money to buy Christmas gifts for anyone, and it broke my heart. But your video inspired me to try and make them something. All my gifts were home made from my kitchen table. Your sooooo special for so many. I'm not computer savvy at all and I don't understand etsy either. I take what I make now to craft shows in my area. Thank you, I have been making wreaths for the last 5 years . I have taken the last year off to be with my mom , sadly she lost her battle and went to heaven at the end of November.
I have never had to branch out and sell my wreaths other than locally . I practiced and made my mom very happy with some beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements.
The local website I would sell my wreaths on , I practically would be giving them away . It's hard to sell wreaths locally. No one want a to pay more than 35.00-40.00 a wreath. I get no profit , I just put it in my head it was a another practice wreath.
I am remodeling my craft room and mentally preparing myself to start making wreaths again. My husband mention craft shows , do you know much about selling at craft shows ?

When covid happen I was pushed to quit my job and homeschool my son. Covid uncertainty also pushed me to want to learn to make things. Since 2020 I've been selling wood signs, wreaths, shirts, mugs, etc.. I've been selling lots of things from home. Now it has become slow and etsy has been a failure for me. I'm discouraged 😞 don't know what to do. I need to make money 💰 the economy is so bad that it's choking our bank.
A handmade business takes time and a lot of effort. Those selling less expensive items are being effected the most because their clientele is suffering the most. I still sell $300 wreaths so the economy is only bad for some, not all. Hard to give detailed advice in the comments on a video but there are ways to sell in this economy. Never quit.

I too am wondering if I should give up my day job and concentrate on my Etsy store. We go to church every week and I pray too and believe the good Lord helps us and looks after every single one of us.

Etsy doesn’t pay bills roof or food clothing etc
Completely disagree! There are many who have full time Etsy shops as a living.
However I think any smart business owner should diversify. Etsy is a starting point. Not the end of the journey for a creative business
