This man was such a boss. To think that he got beaten the crap out of by his father because he didn't think he was "manly" enough. Little did he know his son was much more of a man and a fucking GOD than he himself could ever be.
TOM"BORNAFUCKINREBEL" PETTY, none better in concert no matter which phase you caught him "ANDDAMIGHTYFUCKINHEARTBREAKERS" in ARE an American ICON PERIOD. From Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Americana personified.
Dont get caught up in any materialistic pursuits. Its more about who and what you are than what youve got. Modern society has us on that hamster wheel chasin' after empty dreams. What a great song.
Mike likes that telecaster size and neck. I had a tele that the neck cracked on. Rather than a new neck I replaced it with a strat. Sorry I did that. But note the humbuckers. You don't get that roaring sound with the single coil pickups. The neck is so much easier to negotiate than the gibsons. I have a les paul as well. It is a powerhouse for heavy shift but it is all of that, 'Heavy". It weighs almost twice that of a tele. It kills you physically after an hour or so . If you play it you will have back and neck problems. Sigh. .
a minor gem. this one grew on me over the years. they play this well live, but hey, it's them. they also put that vocal effect on his voice like the record.
The Southern Accents record took awhile to initially grow on me - specifically the Stewart stuff. But it's brilliant in hindsight and works well and probably much needed after three straight similar sounding Iovine records.
yeah I'm that way with their cover from the greatest hits album The thunderclap Newman something in the air I think that live version from the anthology beats the hell out of it any day
You Said it .... this song's reminds me of childhood. Yet it's hip even today... show's what real musicians can do with Talent... Good Music and No cheating!!!!!

Mike Campbell has a great solo - Petty's excellent right hand man
Not many guitar players can match Mike`s playing. Amazing solo.
How the hell does he do it:) My hero.
Kenneth Remes Fromreide
He played the piano solo on the studio recording.
He and Tom basically taught themselves to play with a little help here and there from others...
