No other musician’s death affected me like Tom Petty’s. In my opinion, he along with the Heartbreakers represented the best American music had to offer
When I heard this song as a struggling 14 year old feeling like a square peg in a round hole, I knew then I’d survive and get lucky too!
😂❤
impossible to really say, but I keep coming back to this song as my favorite by TP....I don´t think he ever wrote a shitty song, bless him
yup and the breaks and bridge is just awesome. pretty song.
love Stan on drums. so laid back
I’m with you I go back and forth but I think I end up here and he and the heartbreakers are the same I always end up back with Tom as my favorite
"It couldn't have been that easy to forget about me" ... Gone too soon
All I want to know is, who are the 11 stone cold FOOLS who down-voted this video? Shame on you!
Nah,, they liked it so much they turned their computer upside down and voted thumbs up twice!
They probably thought Toby Keith was a generational talent
"God, it's such a drag when you're living in the past" My phone started ringing off the hook when he passed. I loved this man.
Yeah, honestly the only famous person or celebrity I shed a tear for in my life upon hearing of his passing. His live shows gave me and my friends so many great memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
Me too! Damn the Torpedoes marked the beginning of my love of my own music lol was the first album I bought with my own money and this is one was my favorite!
Stan Lynch was such a great part of this band! Great sound and style.
yup! nailed it. ya gotta be a drummah! hes so laid back in pocket but plays on top too! heard hes not a good “team” player but hes an awsome drummer! Steve Ferrone is awesome too kind similar
RIP PETTY !!! Hope you are floating on some wonderful cloud jamming out! One of the greatest musicians EVER!!!
How in the world do you single out one song of Tom Petty and THE HEARTBREAKERS as your favorite song of their's..
This one is among my hundred or so favorite TP&THB tunes..
I was there. Went to see Dylan, but left the concert a Tom Petty fan! Thanks for the memories, Tom.
I was there too, my first Dead show what a weekend it was!
OMG, what an evening… I wish I had the chance to see Mr. Petty live at least once 😞
Ha ha I’m not surprised 🤩🎸💔
Tom was born for the stage……do you all miss Him.
yeah gone too soon☮
Immortal rockers like the great tom petty are a dying breed
Classic Tom Petty! His band is fabulous...♥
Amazing, brilliant Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!! Love their songs and amazing performances
We smoked cigarettes and we stared at the moon...
Paul Grubbs tom is da man period
Stan was PERFECT for this band, too bad personalities tore it.
Heluva drummer!
That was 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸hot performance. Tom Petty is greatly missed R.I.P. Good man 👌🏼❤️
Stan out that backbeat right where it needed to be. Always admired that about his playing. Iovine is wrong about that imo.
This was filmed at the July 4, 1986 show at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY.
Gotta love some Tom Petty 🎶🎶🤘🤘
I went into shock when I heard he passed away, DJ'S on the radio were crying, I loved him so much.
TP & the HB struck pay-dirt with "Damn the Torpedos" in 1979, which reached #2 on the Billboard LP charts and sold 3x Platinum.
I should've known right then it was too good to last.
What..our youth. LOL. I saw them in "94 and it was the best concert ever. I really
***** Love them in general but Love them live. They do put on the best concert ever! :)
That they do, Kristy. And that's for sure.
Kristy Kirk What does that mean??
It's a line from the song.
One of my favorite songs. And the words say's it all.
Awesome song, songwriter , poet , performer ..knowing his past was a gem in everyway..we all have issues..seems like he cared so very much in every way...its so sad how depression and issues can consume and take us away !🙏
When I was 17 I plagiarized these lyrics as if they were mine to impress a " clueless" girl friend.
And it worked. I think Tom would approve.
What memories.
I'm scrolling down through the RUclips looking at some Tom Petty songs I'm like damn that's a good time baby song but want one ain't they're all good
Tom can put on some awesome shows , Takes me way back !!!!
Stan was irreplaceable I'm afraid. He drove that band and his sound is great.
absolutely
Steve Ferrone was no slouch
Guy stood in and became a heartbreaker
Claniel Dancy Your point is spot on with Steve, he absolutely has earned being a Heartbreaker. And each has their own merits what they’ve brought to the band. it’s the attitude and vibe that Stan exudes....very rebellious just like TP. Those of us who were around in the early days, feel this edge and power. Absolutely no doubt about it.
No disrespect to Steve Ferrone at all, but Stan does some fills here Ringo himself would nod and say “Yeah, that’s how it’s done, mate.” Whole band is in rare form in this-check out Ben rocking out at 1:20 and during Mike C’s solo. Tight!
R.I.P. Tom Petty.... love your awesome music...
Could Tom be any hotter here..???!!! Whew....!
Smokin HOT!!
It's just the normal noises in here.
Blue Monday
...As observed by Mrs. Campbell.
good music never gets old. damn!!!
Thanks for all the great shows Tom.. I was lucky 4 times to witness ur greatness..RiP
This tune contains an example of his talent for musical hooks. Love the bridge too.
Rest in peace Tom. Alot of memories with your music.
R.I.P. thanks for the best music ever
petty in his prime great tune
His prime never left him 🤩🎸💖💔
Love the hat. Damn, Tom was sure sexy .
That hat was stolen
Yes he was sexy & those eyes of his💕
The quality is incredible, thanks for sharing that!! Tom Tom Tom !!
DTT is a great album!!! the heartbreakers at the top of their game here as usual.
Love him!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He is gone and greatly missed....I was fortunate to see him back in the day, BUT seeing this video reminds me what are we doing to save our farms?? We do not want to rely on other countries for our food. We need to do whatever it takes to save our family farms. This country needs to wake up.
This was at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, as was the Dead's portion of the Farm Aid show in 1986.
RIP TOM PETTY..you will truly be missed Gainsville peep!!!! 954 representing
i love this tune the band is on fire nice work stanley drums are spot on
When I was a kid and felt left out and wished I was part of the in crowd I would put this on my record player and blast it. It always made me feel better.
After seeing his performance at Live Aid on TV in 1985, I had to see him live. Saw him the next year in '86 and 7 more times until 1993. Then decided to see him again in 2017 at the Hollywood Bowl with my then girlfriend. He and the band still kicked ass!! Never would've imagined it would be his last shows.
When he passed I was home and it was going back and forth all day. He passed, he didn't, he did. When the announcement was official that he was really gone I cried and cried. Damn. Then I texted my girlfriend who was at work. About two or three minutes later I only got this in response 😢. I sent her back, I know Laura, I know.
I still miss him.
One of the best bands I've ever seen live. I've been to hundreds of shows and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are about the best. But I'd be hard pressed to say which was better live? T.P. and the Heartbreakers were that good.
The best Tom Petty song ever....everyone can relate to this song.
Well put! We all been there
damn, is that Brian May's twin on the Les?
+Amhlair No, that's Mike Campbell, but admittedly back in their early days (late 70's, really early 80's) I used to think the same thing. :-)
RIP BROTHER!
R.I.P. one of the all time best
Stan Lynch is the man
true dat
Their secret weapon. He set the tone for the intensity of the songs. He could lay back or be a powerhouse.
Marina Musiclover as Tom said...Stan had that 5th gear that just exploded.
The Heartbreakers were never the same when he left.
The Heartbreakers were never the same when he left.
Today is a sad day
Never forget Tom Petty
absolutely a kick-ass performance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers one of their very best!
I am still getting used to the fact that he is gone!
We're living in the past. Ain't it a drag?
Sometimes it's a lot better than the present.
We were lucky enough to see his last concert. He inspired the younger generation too: @
God knows I was a loser my entire 47 LONG agonizing years of my useless used to death life!!!
Why?
Jealousy?
Don't give up, your still young, you've still got it 👍
YOU R SMOKE~N HOT TOM~
Yes! even the losers , get lucky Sometimes. LOVE YOU TOM!!!
RIP Mr. Tom Petty!!! ♡
Love love love TOM PETTY
Im singing right along!!!
I loved the Stan era the most. He just made it work.
Tom Petty & the HB were such a magnet for people by their sound, lyrics & energy. I watch this & think damn it IS a drag living in the past because he’s no longer with us & no one will ever his place😭. Stan was the best too.
RIP TOM!
This is one of my favorite live performances of ever.
TOM PETTY ALWAYS LOVED FOREVER MISSED NEVER FORGOTTEN ❤❤
Tom's late 70's/early 80's material like this song was just so good.
RIP Tom
Even the losers? Men hoort het te beteugelen en de teugels strak te ,zonder daarbij den zweep te hanteren.houden
RIP Tom!❤
howie ;(
+Joseph Gorelick Yes, R.I.P. old sweet friend.
If you mean Howie Epstein, I miss his work. He was a wonderful great bass player, humble, and TP says he was the best harmonizer ever!!!!!!! PT misses his second voice for sure. A Milwaukee guy, he passed too young. RIP Howie Epstein.
Tom and heartbreakers my mystic idols
He is so fine.
Always wonder when I watch Stan play live with Tom if TP is irked about a misplay or off beat or whatever by the drummer.
TP He Rocks My Socks !
The drummer is on fire. The pocket during the bridge is just unbelievable 🤌🏼
Super wow yes. 🎩✨💕
I'm a loser with NO pride!
Not my doing! Other people were my hell!!!
😃I love Tom Petty's music😀
+Tara Keebler

I WAS THERE TOO!!!
Drummer Steve Ferronne saved this band. .. look him up. Totally tight. Totally tighten it up. He wasn't drumming here...big difference.
Ah yes!.. Good stuff..
saw them 2 days before in Akron, OH w/Bob Dylan....followed by the Grateful Dead. Best 20 bucks I ever spent! lol
So good!
I am bawling like a baby. Everyone's comments were so touching. And, Peggy O corrected a lyric I mis sang for years!
God it’s such a drag when your living in the past even the loser’s get lucky sometimes, my favorite line and I’m just waiting on my lucky
Yes they do. "Keep a little bit of pride, they get lucky sometimes."
Dam, I miss him already! When one of your rock idols passes and there have been a few, you know you're getting old. RIP!
R.I.P TOM PETTY
Imagine being the " sound man" for TP. if you can't be a Heartbreaker, what a J O B.
Love you Tom & band, especially the 🎹
Buona fortuna bellissimo buon lavoro vinci vinci vinci vincitore
