Mike Campbell the greatest guitar player that no one ever mentions when they are talking about great guitar players. Highly underrated!! Love you Tom , RIP ! You are sorely missed by so many!
I understand that sentiment looking in from the outside but trust me, within the professional musicians community, Mike is one of the most respected artists there is.
When you're as good as Mike Campbell you don't need others to talk about you or talk about yourself your talent and the respect of your peers speaks for itself.
The finale, the love for his fans, the heartfelt waves of appreciation, those special moments of pride and love for his band and crew, that lasting bow with rise to a beautiful smile, one more thank you at the microphone, waves once more and his most meaningful God Bless! Then grins even wider to the very last fan he sees as he makes his way backstage. His style, professionalism, and love for rock 'n' roll left his mark so bright and bold, it can never be surpassed. Tom Petty "is" the definition of rock 'n ' roll and the Heartbreakers add that bit o' soul.❤
Great stuff, Tom was a rock n roller to his core. Sadly I only ever got to see him and the Heartbreakers live once, back in '78, wish I could have seen more, but life got in the way...
when my best friend and I finished Basic Training at Fort Benning, years ago - he picked me up from our barracks in a 1958 Plymouth Fury that was really just a rusty juke box, and the first song he played was American Girl from Tom Petty. It was the first time I had ever heard the song that's how long ago.... Simple as it is, this moment was probably one of the most joyful moments of my whole life. God love you Tom, and you are still with me today.
Yes its true…Landed on top of a wide shouldered photographer right in front of me..we were front row..I plucked it right off his shoulder..it was crazy..You can see me in white baseball cap@@Nick-Emery
All I can say is thank ya’ll for that - we love you soooo very much over here in the UK too. RIP Sir Tom - and the rest of you please keep making beautiful hip music x J ❤ I think that was poss THE BEST GIG I’ve EVER seen…….. (and I’ve seen plenty).
Saw Tom in 1982, somewhere in Germany and my first European concert. He opened with this song! That set off a huge response from all of the US military there (including me)! One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I really think your right! And adding this to his legacy Tom was a really good human that didn’t let money still is soul. I don’t this he wrote not even one bad song. I’m still sometime hear songs that I’ve never heard him play. To me he. he is the GOAT⭐️
Probably would of helped had they made a playlist for the concert or just a full play through. these will never get the same views because people are going to pick and choose the songs they want to hear.
@John Molloy WOW you really got lucky. I snuck into the venue in Phoenix during the day of the concert and tried to find him of course I didn't. Never went to a bad Tom Petty concert and never heard of one.
I was devastated when I heard Tom Petty died. It really must be hard being on the road continuously. He had a lot of pain in his hip while touring and taking a cocktail of drugs to deal with it. I’m a serious addict. I take Xanax and ambien together for anxiety. But I shouldn’t. I just know how hard it is to deal with mental pain, let alone physical. It was not all his fault, and my heart goes out to him. I’m just so glad he and his band members were able to go back to Jax and do this 30th annual concert b4 he died. He seemed so peaceful and appreciate to all his fans. He was a truly great guy! Miss you Tom…
Gary Stevens Yk, he was playing to "his home crowd" but anywhere he and The Heartbreakers go perform becomes "his home crowd" if they weren't already. Just straight up honest, a breath of clean air and deceptively "simple" (as I've heard others say) lyrics: He relates the narrative of a whole universe in a single line.

This is the last song that they playing and as we were walking out they kept on playing this as an encore and I knew all the lyrics and I was singing it by heart and stuff in my family friends that went with us to the concert said Nathan how do you know this song if you didn’t really listen to him growing up and I’m like Marsha my parents used to play this all the time their greatest hits and then in 2009 when he came to town he played breakdown and started out the song and he was about to start singing it when all of us on the lawn started singing it for him and we sang the whole verse verse in and he got on the mic and said you were putting me out of the job and then we all shouted back to him. It’s OK Tom, we know what we’re doing and he started singing the rest of the song which was beautiful
When this song first was released, I really didn't care for it. As time past, I found out that it is one of my favorite songs. Man listen Mike's leader guitar and Petty's vocal. Awesome!

To hear my possibly favourite song of all songs with Stevie Nicks blending in is so good that it is surreal.
This guy was so cool, Stevie Nicks just on stage proves it.
