I bought my first Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers album at 14 years old in the 9th grade. Saw them 17 times in concert and still have my ticket stubs. My first ticket cost $6. They need to keep Narcan on hand around all musicians who are addicted to pills. Prince and Tom Petty may have been saved. It reverses the opiates in your body and can reverse overdoses. They are starting to keep it on ambulances in places that have a high number of drug overdoses.
Tom was right. Eddie kills this! Flawless. Two of my biggest rock heroes come together for an epic! Tom and the Heartbeakers are one of the greatest bands in history. I sometimes play this on a loop for an hour! I don't mind admitting that the guitar riff often gives me tears due to both my memories and its amazing and timeless melody. This is just so good. Eddie sings like a dream and almost puts Tom to shame. That's how good it is. Having said that, there is a difference in that Tom has the characteristic slurred southern accent which makes all the difference in a really good way.
You may be right but I think that's just outside the industry. Among actual musicians, I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have *huge* respect for his work, for the way he uses his (incredible!) talent to service the song ... but what do I know? Absolutely brilliant! Tom's was the only musician's passing that really hit me hard. I grew up on his music, one of my biggest regrets is never seeing him in concert. But he left such an amazing collection of music behind that I am still discovering. Thanks Tom and may you rest in peace.
I feel ya! I was fortunate in getting to see him in Kansas City at an outdoors venue. It was was probably around 2001. It was great! The whole band is so talented and they are so tight together! I miss looking forward to see what they're going to come out with next. TP was a true master at songwriting. I have only been hit as hard by one other death of someone I never personally knew. And that's Chris Cornell. Another amazingly talented guy. I love his voice. So much soul and emotion in his singing. I'm so glad to have their contributions available to listen to even though they're gone.

Been there, but didn't resign my self to the clinic for life....it's a way out.....not a lifestyle. I'm a survivor.

Heard and loved the song for 35 years or more but this gave me chills to the top of my head.

Damn, Eddie nailed it. I graduated high school in '92 jamming to Pearl Jam. I've always loved Tom Petty. Sometimes it just hurts the way the vibe just fits.
This is just so good. Eddie sings like a dream and almost puts Tom to shame. That's how good it is. Having said that, there is a difference in that Tom has the characteristic slurred southern accent which makes all the difference in a really good way.

This is so goddamn great it’s hard to even know what to say, but Mike Campbell is so freaking underrated it’s criminal.
You may be right but I think that's just outside the industry. Among actual musicians, I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have *huge* respect for his work, for the way he uses his (incredible!) talent to service the song ... but what do I know? I'm a 47 year old woman from Berlin, Germany who's been a TP fan for 30 years. And Mike Campbell will always be one of my favourite guitar players!
Eddie Vedder is the most humble and talented person! What a great talent! Just watching him while the band does its thing is awesome. I could watch him clap his hands for hours and drool the entire time.

Oh jeez, Eddie is clearly putting on an act with his phony "Mr. Humble" thing. Learn a little about the guy. Virtually his entire "history" is fiction, a fabrication to make himself seem like a real rock star. And we'll just have to disagree on the "he has talent" part. Eddie's only talent is self-promotion.

This is one of my favorite videos on RUclips. I love how Eddie doesn't try to make the show about himself or steal any of the limelight. He is incredibly gracious to Tom and his band and politely thanks Tom and departs the stage. What a tremendous performance (by Eddie and the band) and an even greater class act.

I have watched this video over and over many times. And its always still like the first time. I get so excited! Eddie Vedder is one of my favorite musicians. I have all their music!! Just like Tom Petty another one of my favorites!
Absolutely brilliant! Tom's was the only musician's passing that really hit me hard. I grew up on his music, one of my biggest regrets is never seeing him in concert. But he left such an amazing collection of music behind that I am still discovering. Thanks Tom and may you rest in peace.
I feel ya! I was fortunate in getting to see him in Kansas City at an outdoors venue. It was was probably around 2001. It was great! The whole band is so talented and they are so tight together! I miss looking forward to see what they're going to come out with next. TP was a true master at songwriting. I have only been hit as hard by one other death of someone I never personally knew. And that's Chris Cornell. Another amazingly talented guy. I love his voice. So much soul and emotion in his singing. I'm so glad to have their contributions available to listen to even though they're gone.
