Just a week before his going to heaven. So so so sad! Grew up with you will always love you music! Thanks for everything!
I don't think he read your comment.
I appreciated your comment- 🎸👍🏻
life - he contributed so much ,
No one knows what is around the corner as they say . You take care my friend RIP Tom
Best forever love Tom petty. RIP
😥
It's not Sad to go to heaven.. :)
Tom was the definition of cool. He wore it well. When I heard of his death i had a "breakdown". I lost my Mom, my nephew, and one of my closest friends all within a month, then to top it off we lost Tom Petty a couple weeks later. It was so much all at once. I just sat there and cried.
RIP Tom Petty!
Man that’s tough. God Bless
I love the music, I saw them in Oklahoma City and later in California in Yuba City at Toyota theatre, I cried also when I heard of his passing, Tom was such a great song writer and singer, he played guitar very well! Their songs and playing literally took everyone on a sensory trip! He was so talented, he made me feel I was on the trip with the group!
@Lance Voorhees I still cry and my son
American music wouldn’t be the same without this man or his band. Thank you Tom for all the great music that will outlast us all.
To think he only had a week left on this Earth. Very sad, he was a great musician and I will forever cherish the legacy he left us.
I was at this show & had great time, second time I saw him on the 40th anniversary tour. I noticed he was moving with some difficulty but I thought it was left over from bronchitis etc & it was such a rocking show! I go back now & I can see his pain! If only he'd have gone to the Dr rather than waiting! Thank you for that last show TPHB
and if only quit smoking way back when: heart damaged, and bones dessicated
7:40…that’s so awesome…Mike knew Tom was hurting up there…the man was being driven by rock n roll…once off the stage he could barely walk…he gave us EVERYTHING he had
If he just would have had his hip replaced or fixed, he’d still be rocking! I’ve had three hip replacements(one went bad), but the pain will subside after a couple of months, then my left knee replaced from Osteoarthritis, Tom Petty was a wonderful musician, and so were the rest of the group! His loyalty to the band was immense! Sirius Radio is a blessing for their music, I listen to the Tom Petty station daily!
One of my biggest regrets was never seeing you live Tom. Grew up listening to you from my parents love of your music, and you influenced my passion for guitar.
Also one of my regrets not to see him live. Love some Tom Petty!!!!!!
Same, same. Can't believe I never saw them. And I can't believe I never quite realized what a fantastic guitarist Mike Campbell is either.
There's a reason Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Geoff Lynne wanted to perform with him; it was so evidently clear that he was on their level.
He happily went to the end of the line.
Better
This song is 40 years old when he is singing it on stage. It was a hit in the late 70's when Album Rock was dying and the 80's sound and MTV was replacing it. Petty never waivered. Kept true to his style and his art and kept cranking out hits.
I still am shocked he's gone. Every song was my life story. God I'll miss him 😢
Tom was a legend and a gift to us all
He defines "One of a kind" and Rock n Roll
Missed by everyone but the music lives forever! RIP
I was at that last concert. It was awesome!!!
Ronnie Thompson t❤
So Amazing. Kids today will have no idea how amazing it was to go to and follow bands to these shows. Such a great time to have lived
Thank you Tom Petty for all of your music. Alot of memories with your music. RIP Tom ❤❤💙💙
He took a piece of my ❤ with him. I'll be missing you and you gave all of us so many memories.
He took most of my heart with him.
Grew up on his Music! A LEGEND!
5 years today we lost this wonderful decent man... RIP TEP...
This song and refugee are the ones that blow me up. It was a long time wait coming because I wasn't really familiar with Tom Petty. Hard to believe but you know life is different for different people during the 70s in the 80s in the 90s and stuff. So I'm a little slow to the party but I'm here. God bless his soul
wow, seeing how much he was suffering, all makes sense now. he gave it all for rock 'n roll. rest now and thanks beyond thanks.
I wasn´t the biggest Tom Petty Fan. Until I heard this song. Changed it! R.I.P.
Even on deaths door, he rocked total balls. RIP.
On "death's door"??? Seriously??? He didn't have anything death-related going on--people live for decades with emphysema, and broken hips can be replaced. No one knew he would die in 5 days. He certainly didn't know he was going to die in 5 days. He didn't PLAN to die in 5 days. Excrement happens. He ALWAYS gave all he had. Always. ♥
karey lester I wouldn’t call this rocking. More like a legend in agony, high as a kite loaded on opiates who’s trying hard to push himself to the finish line of a tour he shouldn’t have been on.
D.L. Moore no, only a blocked artery to his hip, that caused the bone to die. Yes, people can live for decades , and broken hips can be replaced, but-surgery for broken hips can kill people with emphysema.
@@Moonmaedyn he was on 7 prescription meds and overdosed...I don't think it was planned, it just happens when the body can take no more...period
Just about a week later and we lost a Music Legend. This Man's music has carried me through my Years. Love and Miss You Petty, now and forever.
Slide on over here next to meeeeeee baby. The interplay between Tom and the Heartbreakers is MAGIC.
I LOVE THIS SONG... ONE OF THE SONGS OF MY CHILDHOOD.. WHEN I WOULD DRIVE MY CJ-5 DOWN A SMALL TOWN ROAD IN MIDDLE AMERICA AND HAVE MY JENSEN SPEAKERS CRANKED UP ... AND MY HAIR FLYING IN THE WIND.. MY HEART FEELING LIKE ID NEVER GROW OLD.. MY EYES SAW EVERYTHING CLEARLY ... MY MIND WAS SO POWERFUL.. LIKE I WAS NEVER GONNA DIE.... AND TOM WAS THERE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.. EVERY MILE I DROVE HE WAS THERE... YOU WENT AWAY TO SOON TOM... THE WORLD COULD OF GOTTEN 4 MORE ALBUMS OUT OF YOU... OR MORE.. I HAD ONE CHANCE TO SEE YOU IN NYC AT THE BEACON .. AND SOME ASS HOLE SOLD ME A FAKE TICKET.. 2 OF THEM.. AND I LOST 600 BUCKS.. 300 A PIECE FOR 3 ROW CENTER OR SO I THOUGHT.. ANYWAY.. I LISTENED TO YOU THRU THE BACK WALLS OF THE THEATER ON AMSTERDAM AVE.... I HEARD YOU .. I COULDN'T SEE YOU .. BUT I HEARD FOR A FEW SONGS...
The thief will answer to God.
Saw them in 1976 open for “The Runaways” only had the one album out. I sat front row
Last concert. Great performance. Sounds like original material. Rip tp
This dude is a legend! Best song by tom, so cruisee...
R. I. P. Tom. You were definitely one of a kind. say hello to my cousin Mark
he was a big fan
OMG this is so sad,he's gone and there will never be another like him in my lifetime.See you on the other side RIP Tom and thank you a thousand times for all the great music you made for us.
I got to see him in 2017 so glad we went. I took our son who was in elementary school.
They just don't make them like this anymore he was a truly gifted musician i love and miss him God gained and we lost rest in peace my brother
My heart breaks watching this, loved this man so deeply 💔 I can feel his pain, making his fans so happy 💕💕💕
Tom Petty, you were the nicest man I ever met, I will Love you forever, as will you fans. You ARE A ROCK LEGEND, and you will missed by the millions of your fans, WE LOVE YOU TOM PETTY.
Tom Petty was a modern day Elvis Presley. An irreplaceable talent. RIP Tom Petty.
When Grandpa's were cooler than the grandkids. ✌️
I literally watch this everyday.
What a beautiful redition of a classic song. Tom always looks like he is enjoying what he is doing, and I think that's one of the best gifs you can give the fans.
absolutely agree
He loved every second of it….NEVER phoned it in
The pat on the back that Mike gives Tom at the end is so touching and bittersweet.
I saw him play every weekend in Gainesville, Fl. before he left for L.A. I will always be a fan
This is so beautiful but so sad,he would be gone from us in one week. He gave it his all , heart, body and soul. As he said I had to do this I had no choice.I would have done it if nobody liked it. Tom Petty .....Top Shelf and my forever.
Saw Tom and the heartbreakers in August of 1978, Portland, Maine. It was hot in the Civic Center, and the sweat was just pouring out of him and he was great. I think Atlanta Rhythm Section was the warm up band.
Drove up from Boston to see that show in ‘78 Portland, Me great show
Tom - Live is the experience of a Life Time, he knew how to connect with his audience and make you feel the music all way to your Core, Incredible Person and Band ! 🎸🎯🎵👍
One of my favorite petty songs . Im really glad he made his name on the Hollywood walk of fame . He will never be forgotten cause he's always on the radio . What a great legacy .
Literally a week before he passed...God rest your soul Mr. Petty!
Love this bluesy version of this classic.
Me, too. He really made this beautiful and bluesy in his incredibly unique way.
This is one of the greatest performance ‘s of this song! ✌️🎸🧚🏻♂️
I’m gonna “Breakdown “go to Tennessee and I’m gonna give it to my baby ...and it’s gonna be alright ..it’s gonna be alright.. and I’m not gonna let my baby down and my baby’s not gonna let me down.. yea it’s all gonna be alright even if it’s just one night baby...you know who you are and I’m singin it to you baby..🥰💋🎸😎
so sad to him like this, sometimes you would think those who were close to him could have stepped in to get him some help. RIP your music is priceless
💘💘💘Best Performance Of My fav TP Song 💘💘💘
Great artist Tom as well as being a real lover of music and his many fans God bless you Tom you will be remembered

What a performance! Love you forever Tom!! Rest in Peace & Love and music
Makes you wanna cry listening to this magic.
Thank you for that.
That Gretsch is gorgeous
Miss you Tom 😚
Hardly ever play? I would think this would be a song that was played every night on tour. To me it is one of the main Tom Petty songs, right up there with Refugee and American Girl. Fitting it was played on that last night.
God I ❤️ LOVE the sound of his voice, T.P. & HB's best live band ever!
Mike Campbell’s riff = fan for life 💗
I was lucky enough to attend one of the last shows. I loved this band with all that I am. I will always miss Tom Petty.
WOW! 7 days before he went. amazed. kept it rocking until the reaper was knocking. respect
My bucket list got a big hole blowen through it the day this legend passed, I figured I had several more years to see Tom and the band. Just goes to show you never know when God will decide to take you, I know Tom is rockin' in heaven right now, see ya when I get there and then my list will be fulfilled.. ,
You're spot on. I too thought I'd get to see them play. Here I am almost 2yrs on thinking or playing his music every day. Upsets me still so much. Legend.
Joe Walsh & Eagles best show ever seen live..massive screwup I didn't go see my favorite, Tom Petty..I was biggest fan back in 70s before it was cool to be a Petty fan amongst my friends..
So emotive! Thank you Tom! You have no idea how this helped me in my life situation today!
Love that Man!
Love and miss you Tom
Tom Petty was the Elvis Presley of the 21st century.
Tom Petty was hardly around for the 21st century. And he hardly made any of his best music in it either. I'm glad that you think he's a new artists, but he's been making these songs in the 70s-90s.
Hey Genius! I've been a petty fan since the late 70's, no where did I think or say he's a new artist, unfortunately he's gone now. You didn't understand my comment, this is typical when the left say something. I bought "Damn the Torpedo's" on cassette in 1982. Do you know how that album came about and almost didn't it, or will you have to Goggle it?
I still have all my Petty cassettes - Side B Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is worn, but still plays. Lots of rewinding, rewinding, rewinding. His music defined my life. The best songwriter & performer ever. Still choked up....
How dare you talk about Tom Petty that way!!!
@@williambrown1172 It was a compliment.
Tom you. Rocked it. Miss you Rip
The coolest soul in the cosmos 🙏🏽🎸🎩💔
Something inside you is feeling like I do...
yeah
Mr. Thomas Earl Petty. Better than the beatles. Better than the stones. Hats off to you. YOU ROCK! Does anyone agree?
He was amazing but he hasn't the Beatles or Stones beat! That's levels above Tom Petty. He was incredible but he has plenty of rockers ahead of him on an all time greats list!
I went to his concerts when most people didn't know him ..the room was filled with the aroma of party..his blood stained banner flew on his back..he rocked the cradle to the hurst..most of us only dream of a life..
Love him !!
The BEST….EVER!
Love this last grand stand.
Tom man, I love you ❤️🤟🏻 thank you for all the good you’ve done in this world while you were here, heaven has one bad ass rockstar🙃
It’s alright ♥️🎩♥️🎶🎶🎶🎶
Rock.I .P. Tom....ty for the good vibes down the years.
Luv him at 73
So sorry we lost such a master.. Again!!! Thanks for doing such a respectable show knowing now how much physical pain you were enduring. Hopefully, we will have better ways of fixing chronic relentless pain that will not have the potential of taking us down. We will Always Miss You Tom!!! Thanks for your endless contribution to Great Music!!!
Live show - awesome gig - no cRap!
We will always love ❤️ you Tom.
2021 still best seduction song ever. Wish audio was better on this. Pure Petty.
At 1:28 he has the biggest smile as he was very happy. So sad.
Manuel Martinez Mike said that Tom looked happier than he’d been in years. We have that to cling to. He was * happy*, at that last show.
About to this gem i remember my first girlfriend named MAREN performing this song perfectly in Buxtehude City!
another one of our LEGENDS. gone. Music is dying a horrible death. I hate rap crap shithop
Always a fan of live music so frigging,,. ,
Thankfull I was able to see them live in concert in 2001at Sandstone Amphitheater in Ks. It was so amazing! Unfortunately not many bands sound great live. My favorite artist of ALL TIME. I haven't heard a song from him that I don't like.💖
I'm trying like hell to find the recording live, where the audience takes over, starts singing the lyrics, and he says, "You guys are going to put me out of a job." :) I had it on MP3, lost it on a dead HD. If anyone can point me toward it i would be grateful. Such a great talent
I know exactly what you’re looking for, my favorite version hands down. It was on their first live album from the 1985 “Pack Up The Plantation” tour. I sort of forgot about it, but remember being blown away first time I heard it. So, I guess thanks for asking and jarring my memory, because I get to crank it up and enjoy it all over again.
The video is here on RUclips 😊
Ok looking Thank you Lisa sorry. I 'm missing the line in that video, but I;m old and deaf. Mary I will search. Thank you both.
@@maryomalley6312 You get these jolts of memory. I am searching. I was in love, a long way from home, and that Hispanic girl thought he was the bomb. And we all know he was. Met my wife right after :) She loves his music too. She never saw him
@@maryomalley6312 Never found it. he would have have to have been established by that time? Was just as great as Cheap Trick in Budakan (?)
Great video
Such loss..so avoidable💔🌺🦋💝
Lynn Carroll that was going to end badly, regardless.
If you just gotten hip surgery he would have been okay. He would have had to take 6 weeks to recuperate but it would be worth it.
He would pass 7 days later, so sad. RIP
I wish I had gone to see Tom Petty and The HeartBreakers before he passed instead of the poor choice I made in spending money on another band. Tom Petty was all ‘American,’ and lived not very from where my parents grew up. Gainesville, FL., is so very close. Angie
2/1/2021 - best he went the way he did. This Covid shit would've tortured him. It's a horrible way to go. Hard to take that so many of our rockers and dying off. But the 80's were a great time to be alive!
Such a classic tune. ❤️ If anyone wants to learn Breakdown on the guitar, we chose it for today's guitar lesson @ ruclips.net/video/m5ei3w-2N0M/видео.html - Enjoy 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Wow.
Petty ... unlike any other musician / songwriter and cover artist
Bad ass
I love getting old .. but I will Take the 1985 version .. especially sound I don't know if this is homemade.. sounds like it... but Mr Petty is to good. The version of 1985 with the looks of this...
It's a pity you didn't keep it up
I know you you were famous once ..... (Kevin Costner) are you the post man ? No man your famous (Tom Petty) even in his movie debut he downplayed his fame humble ass dude RIP a real Legend
What?
Starting July 1 and October 2
I miss tom petty
