      @CARANDTRAIN  7 лет назад

      Tinsby Thank you for the kind words. The older gentleman in the back is the builder. The younger one in the front is the driver. My understanding is that the locomotive was completely built from scratch.

    • @Tinsby
      @Tinsby 7 лет назад

      Well my hat is off to both of them. It's a shame that PRR couldn't find room to save many of it's one of a kind locomotives. The T-1. the S-2. Q-1, Q-2 all come to mind. I am near the RR museum of Pa. It's one thing to 'save' these engines, but a sad one to watch the weather destroy them bit by bit.
      I will subscribe to your channel and thanks again!

      Tinsby Thank you for the nice words. Have you watched my two other live steam PRR Q2 videos?

    • @Tinsby
      @Tinsby 7 лет назад +1

      Yes indeed I have, I can appreciate the skill, time and devotion it takes to make one of these beauties.What scale are they built to?
      Years ago while working for Amtrak I met a man named Porter Hoopes, who had a live steam RR near Devon, Pa. in his backyard. I never got to see it run, but he was kind enough to show me his shop and the live steamer he had built and one he was working on. Needless to say he's long gone and I haven't a clue where his engines ended up. When I'd go past on the train we'd always look for his RR and hope it was operating. He had a complete machine shop in his basement. It was kind of him to show us everything, since we came without an invitation., guess the Amtrak ID helped me there.

  • @stihlman9409
    @stihlman9409 7 лет назад +1

    Just to explain the slipping of the PRR Q-2...
    Because of the long rigid wheelbase any imperfections in track work are magnified....
    The drivers can only DROP down so far to grab the rail for traction.....
    Front and rear wheel sets are chained together...
    One set slips they both slip..
    So the issue has nothing to do with the problems the full size locomotive had........

    Is there any kits of these or a website you can buy kits from or do you have to custom build everything? If anyone has any websites could you please link me. I haven't found anything on google.

    • @CARANDTRAIN
      @CARANDTRAIN  8 лет назад

      Most of the engines are custom built. What you see in this video is clearly custom built. A few companies sell ready-to-run locomotives. As a kit, I only know Wayne Godshall Custom Machining. If you contact Wayne, let him know that I gave you a referral. Wayne has been servicing my locomotive for years.

      I thought train lovers normally have small model train set in their homes etc. This is first time I saw model train being ridden by people.

    • @CARANDTRAIN
      @CARANDTRAIN  7 лет назад +1

      80Vikram Well, there are all kind of scales. It goes from 1/220 ( Z scale) all the way to 1/2, which you find in amusement parks. In larger scale, you have ride-behind, ride-on and ride-in. What you see is 7.5" gauge, 1/8 scale. This is ride-on. I have more than a hundred videos of this hobby; just search for "live steam" in my channel. Enjoy!!!
