- Today, we're on the road again, in the Finger Lakes region of western New York, for the Finger Lakes Live Steamers 55th anniversary meet. This club has 7-1/4" gauge and 4-3/4" gauge tracks, and the turnout was decent for both. Come along as we ride around the track, watch train after train go by, then get some night running in and even have time for some shenanigans.

What a neat railroad setup, 2 gauges! And that neat night time run through a tree tunnel; fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed it
As a hobby machinist for the last 30yrs or so, I am constantly blown away by the live steam 7 1/4" gauge locomotives... The shear amount of time, money and work that went into building them. I'd love to have a shop with the appropriate sized equipment to be able to build locomotives like that. But even with the right equipment, it's still a lot of time and money. The castings and raw material alone, is probably thousands of dollars. Then you have to have the boiler designed, built and certified. Pretty huge accomplishment...
@WHJeffB It can be done with a 9x13 lathe and a drill press.
The time to build an engine from scratch is huge, though. That's why I build electric locomotives from scratch. There are enough steam engines that need repair, that you probably don't need to build one. You can find a used one in good enough shape if you're patient.
A change of scenery is as good as a rest, so the saying goes. And what a scenery! Amazing place. I especially like how they trained the tree branches to form living tunnels.
@@tardismole It really didn't take any training. Those trees do it naturally.
@@MillBrookRailroad Well, that will annoy every lanscaper I know, including my father. LOL
You're both that guy on RUclips! (Looks like you had a lot of fun).
Such a great club railroad. Glad you had the chance to visit. Sorry I wasn’t able to find time to come out and meet you. FLLS is awesome
@@csxtq110 perhaps another time...
Nice looking layout ❤
Thanks to both for that run on that pretty railroad on both scales or standard and "narrow gauge" in daylight and night run.😊😊😊
I think it’s a good thing I don’t live closer to a club like that and don’t have enough land… I’d be broke… lol
Awesome video!
@smcnish1droid I have less invested in this hobby than most indoor model railroaders have in their locomotive collections. There is, perhaps, less impulse buying and a lot more building going on.
If you are into scratch building, then this is the perfect hobby. A table saw, a drill press, a good set of files, and a welder will get you a long way.
the line was huge love that very large bridge that D&H was neat.
Very interesting
Lots of train-ing.... Nice video.
Good to know some organizations can endure, even with shenanigans. Thanks!
Hey, Aaron, so very sorry I missed you there. It was not until late afternoon, when I saw one of our young friend's out on #70, that I realized you were there. Maybe at the 60th!
@ronkunst968 You didn't miss me, Ron. I mentioned the satellite pictures of your old house and the Chemung & Ridgeberry RR and how I didn't realize how close you were to Pennsylvania.
@@MillBrookRailroad I know but would have liked to talk more. Thank you for this video.
@@ronkunst968 It would have been good to visit longer. Perhaps next year!
What type of batteries do you use, and how long can they run before having to recharge? Great video!
@teschvalleyrailroad on the Mill Brook 70, I use lead acid deep cycle batteries. They're about 75 Amp Hour batteries, and I can get about 6-8 hours run time.
Lots of steam! Yes!!!!!!
I had to review this a few times and my wife noticed it too. Did anyone happen to notice the big black thing walking off to the left of the track about 50 yards ahead of the camera? At time stamp 22:30 . There is clearly no path there for anyone to walk on in the middle of that stretch of forest. I think you caught a ghost or big foot that you might have not noticed on can.
I think that was me.
You have to be pretty quick with your eye but it is clearly all in black as it walks off the track and into the woods . And when the train gets to that location there is no one there. I don't know what it is. But there is something moving ahead of that train. But anyways, the trains are cool.
@@sg6970-lg9td That was the train in front of me.
I can see why most people don’t want to open up the throttle when on the high line because if it gets away from them it will eventually stop
Wait, who's the guy on youtube? 😉
Fingerlakes public open house ride days stopped suddenly. What happened?
@funone8716 I don't know. I don't think they would turn you away if you turned up on a Saturday, though.
@@MillBrookRailroad That's interesting. I was a member years ago, but wasn't sure if non member spectators would be allowed or welcomed.
Where is this railroad located in the Finger Lakes?
By Lyons, NY.
It's in Marengo, which is by Clyde and Lyons.
