I am a model railroader, I am a volunteer train crew member on theCuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Now I can hardly wait to ride the Mill Creek Central. Awesome!!!!
Glad you liked it! I've been up to CVSR several times myself, thank you and everyone else up there for keeping those beautiful vintage diesels running! Hopefully I'll get back up there once everything returns to normal here in Ohio.
@@CSXGirl822 CVSR now owns the original dome car consist of the California Zephyr. Restored to original glory. Great ride. Hope to see you when normal times return.
My grandfather took me to LALS when the club first started in the 1950's. To me, the hobby is about keeping steam alive and I have done my part by building a Fitchburg Northern 2-6-0.
I met you down at Mill Creek Central Railroad this year and we talked about Rocky railroad animation. and I remember talking to you down there about the trains and about his animations he did
Fun fact: The largest steam engines in operation today are US nuclear aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. They are steam-electric but still steam driven nonetheless. And of course, electric cars that are charged from lines serviced by coal or nuclear fired power plants are essentially steam powered at one stage of their energy conversion. Steam is the most efficient form of energy generation to this day and it is not going anywhere soon.
Where I work/volunteer, we have a 16" gauge petrol-fired G-16. I say "fired" but it's a diesel/gasoline engine, technically. Specifically, it's gas-mechanical, but still, it's quite fun.
Great! I really like these locos. That reminds me, my uncle built a 3 1/4" Heisler that I got to run on compressed air at a steam show last year. If I were to build a tiny steam loco, it would probably be a Sentinel vertical boilered locomotive of some kind.
Really? All of the videos , shops and events I been too have been mainly older anglo European looking men. Could use more younger and female enthusiasts.
True for the most part, although I've seen it takes multiple people to get one of the locomotives back on when they derail more than just a few wheels. There's a horror story from this particular little railroad about a locomotive rolling down the hill just before you get to the tunnel... I don't want to imagine how difficult it was to get that one relocated!
It's part of the signaling system the railroad has in place. They're pressing/bending those switches as they enter into another signal block, so that any oncoming trains can divert into passing sidings or so that there isn't too bad of a cluster/traffic jam when there are multiple trains going the same direction.
They're for the signaling system the whole railroad has. Lots of places are double tracked or have passing sidings, so signals are needed as there are usually multiple people running at a time.
No jobs involved, these folks run these as a hobby like some run model trains. You just have to know someone to get invited to a meet up or find one of the public meets.
I may be wrong but I've been told that with most of the turns on these types of rails, a big boy type of engine isn't capable in making those turns. Now I would love to see a miniature big boy though.
How is the mechanics of the two 6-axle diesels set up? What’s the prime mover, gearing/clutches, etc? I’d like to have a steam and a diesel locomotive in my collection but I’d rather not have it run off of a Briggs and Stratton if possible
There's a handful of online stores that sell these. Thing is, they're REALLY expensive. Model locomotives in this scale can often go for as much as a new base-model car.
Hello, im interested and in need of someone to come or a place to take my grandfather's steam engine for repair. It needs the boiler rebuilt. He built it in the 70s and it ran until 2009. Four generations have enjoyed it and now a five generation needs the experience and joy but grandpa has dementia now and can't do it alone. That was indeed me, hello again. :)
I Love Trains ever since I was three years old nothing of sage 55 years now
People missed past industrial revolution and heavy industry very much

What ate those devices the engineer flicks on the white poles?

Great Job Nicely Done.

I'd love to go there
Sorry if it has been answered. But aside from the steamers which are obviously true steam loco's, what powers the "diesel" loco's?
Does anyone know where I cam find a drawing of the layout for this railroad. This place looks massive. Thanks
Theres a link in there description. Mill creek railroad has the layout on there site
What are the light antennas I see the engineers touching as they pass them?. Is it a track switch?
It's part of the signaling system the railroad has in place. They're pressing/bending those switches as they enter into another signal block, so that any oncoming trains can divert into passing sidings or so that there isn't too bad of a cluster/traffic jam when there are multiple trains going the same direction.
What is the lever on the post for?.
I notice all the drivers operate this lever as they pass.

That 4-8-4 steamer is really cool. Has anyone built a 4-8-8-4 (Big Boy) yet?

I know a couple builders who make 1.5" six-axle diesels that run on electric motors. I'm also not a fan of the gas engines.
Está muy bonito a ecala y chistoso 😅

@@VestedUTuber can u tell me how much a switch track is worth?
@@dennishargrove4978
Depends on the supplier. An RMI Railworks True Track Switch will go for around a little under $1,500.
@@VestedUTuber what is the name of the ride on train club ,not steam, in Largo Florida?
@@dennishargrove4978
Pretty sure that's the Largo Central Railroad.
A great track
cool video, I love live steam and 7 1/2 gauge trains
7 and 1/2 gauge, that's what I forgot to put in the description! Thanks for the unintentional reminder! :D
your welcome
oh and glad to see your back
I see a lot of these trains include tank cars. Are they just models, or are they running propane to make steam?
Some burn coal, some burn propane. Propane is normally stored in grill or food-service propane containers.
This is great!
What city is this in
Coshocton, OH. Be aware it's a private layout and is usually by invitation only.
People missed industrial revolution and heavy industry very much.
Aren't they inhaling a lot of soot and smoke?
Depends on the fuel source. Not all live steam models are coal-fired.
Maybe :)
wow where's that located
Mill Creek Central is located in Coshoction, Ohio, USA. You can find out when their operating sessions are on their website: www.millcreekcentral.com/
That boy looks like hes doing something else at 19:45
Where to buy one?
I have a switch track for sale
Very interesting...Shall contact you on your mail for further details.
