Great video, love how you started #1 with a helmet and mentioned riding in the rain. I hope people hear what you're saying. Nearly two weeks ago I bit it hard while riding in the rain trying to beat the lightning. I fell backwards at 20mph+ and bounced my head off the pavement and skidded to a stop. I luckily wore my helmet that day and so I am only dealing with road rash on my back, hip, elbows, hands, wrists and knees as well as bruised and swollen elbow, and a concussion. For the last two weeks I wake up feeling like I'm severely hung over and it lasts all day. But my brains are still in my head and not on that pavement! People of RUclips: Wear your helmet, ya?

MAJOR TIP (from experience): Know the places where you can go to recharge your board. You’ll definitely want to know these places when making longer trips or when you’re in a rush to get somewhere. It’ll save you the stress about running out of juice in the middle of a trip on a place you don’t know. I recommend fast food places, libraries, some parks, some gas stations, stores and public buildings.
    *or have a spare battery*

Another important tip is to remember that you don't always have to be with your board or on your board. What I mean is that if you have to dodge an obstacle last second and it would be too dangerous to slam on the brakes or accelerate out of the way; just get off your board. Even if you kick it to the side and it gets damaged, it's just an object end of the day. The important thing is that you don't get injured. I see a lot of people that I group ride with just stick with their board. You can stop the board and sprint in a direction to avoid direct impact, you can jump off your board and pick it up if it's at a low enough speed, practice different ways to dismount so that you have more than just 1. I'm regular stance and I'm more used to my right foot coming off the board first, but I'm also comfortable with my my left foot coming off the board first too.

Ive ridden my Inboard M1 over 800 Miles! I used to skate as a kid so the fundamentals were mastered long ago . When riding a standard street deck I focused on what was right in front of me. Electric Skateboarding is different in the sense that one needs to focus 8 -10 feet in front of themselves. Because in less than a second you will be at the point you focused upon. That should be in the basic tips.
I have only had one major crash and it was a result of a combination of factors. 1. The remote for the Inboard M1 has a switch that one holds down on the front of the remote to allow the control of movement. "its like a deadmans switch" you pull your finger off that switch and no power is being sent to the hub motors. 2. I was doing a long brake from about 22 MPH and leaning back in an extreme angle rearwards. I shifted pressure on the deadmans switch ever so slightly and that was enough to stop all braking and the board jerked forwards with full momentum. This launched me forward at a high rate of speed. I landed with the side of my body hitting the ground. My shoulder absorbed the brunt of the injury when I smacked. Trip the ER revealed that I slightly tore my Acromyoclavicular Joint. Known as the AC joint. This was extremely painful and made more so when they sent me home and told me to take advil for the pain. (Thanks alot ! ) This was due to the American obsession with Opiod abuse. Pain in that area of the shoulder for a minimum of six months. I was back riding my E-Skate a week an a half later though.

Had my board a week, and as a complete novice this would have been useful. Managed to figure most out, but have fallen on my arse once. Some extensions to the video could cover checking the trucks, where to position the feet, and how to deal with uneven surfaces. Those little lego style bumps where cycle paths meet the road, pot holes, cracks, etc wouldn't bother me running or cycling, but bane of my life now.

I know it can be scary to lean forward when you're going almost 20 mph, but speed wobbles are scarier so lean forward. I ride a short e-board (25 inches) with loose trucks and still don't get speed wobbles at 20 mph. Part of it is that it also just takes time and muscle development. Eventually you'll subconsciously neutralize the small movements in your ride that can become speed wobbles. leaning forward just helps more.

It's all about your stance and how you keep your balance. I've been skating since I was a kid but using an e-skate for the first time was definitely a bit tricky. It's so easy to get thrown off of that thing while braking or have the board fly out from underneath you if your stance is wrong and you hit the accelerator wheel too quickly. But man is it awesome not having to push.

As someone who just got a WowGo 3, never have touched a board before, and been using it as a way to get around my Oklahoma town...all these are exactly things to know.
My issue has been hella speed wobbles. Wiped out hard today behind a local Walmart. Pretty sure it has to do with my piss poor balance on the board.
    Bought elbow/knee/wrist pads right after.
I'll add one more: Don't give a fuck how people see you. Especially if you're a beginner; hell yeah I picked up my board to walk across a busy road. Fuck death.

Board stance, weight distribution and Stiffer bushing on your trucks and re adjustment should sort that right out... may seem stiff at slower speeds but it won’t try to kill you when you open it up!

      @outerheaven2k7 5 лет назад +7

@@tomwilshaw7512 I've gone 400+Km since that post and you are right on the money.
I've been working on my stance and see my balance/weight distribution is quite off sometimes. Learning to dig my front foot more, trying not to lean back when I should lean forward.

wildfireXzero yea to be honest bushings are more of a ‘final tweek’... best thing you can do is just keep at it, if you learn to carve up a board that’s not particularly best ‘set up’ for you, then when you finally do get yourself set up exactly on a board you can unleash beast mode!

Spectacular video! I'm in the middle of middle-age and just passed 100 miles on my Mini-X. I would have loved for someone to tell me all of these things when I first started. One thing, I assumed I could automatically ride this board because I had tons of roller skating experience, bike to work regularly as a New Yorker, even at my middle age, and thought that because I was used to having wheels under my feet with skates and a skate board decades ago, that I'd be alright on an E-Board! That was NOT the case! People need to know they are riding sideways and a little bit twisted a majority of the time. Stretching your legs, especially around your knees from time to time during long rides will help. Your calves may start to freeze up or cramp up after standing still on a board for long stretches of time. Going too slow can sometimes be just as dangerous as going to fast. You need momentum to go over certain types of pavement, concrete, sidewalks with large cracks. If you're going fast enough, a moderate pace, you can get over those small patches of tiny pebbles or a few small holes in the road, going too slow can make the board stop short and you fly off. I remember in one of Casey Neistat's videos, the first time that he ever fell VERY HARD was when he was going TOO SLOW! That happened to me on the Westside bike path in NYC and I fell VERY HARD!! It sucks! And if I didn't have my helmet on, the pavement would have ripped my face off and I really like my teeth and they were saved by the helmet. Again, this video was so on point!

hey there new electric longboarded here, over the last 13 days I've started riding one I've learned to start slow at one of the lowest speeds being 1 on my board, one of my number 1 rules for longboarding is don't try to be an expert when starting, Rule 1 Wear a Helmet and start slow and build yourself up to speed slowly on your new board, Rule 2 start at the lowest speed possible and as you get more and more comfortable ramp up the speed gradually if you start getting scared of going too fast and falling off make it your goal to get comfortable at the speed that you get to before the speed you start getting scared of riding at, slowly work your way up the bar and remember its not a race so take your time, Rule 3 There's no shame in bailing off your board especially in a dire situation where you might be at risk of falling off due to hitting a bad bump/pothole or hitting someone just remember to muscle train your thumb for your break if you have one on your board that way you can almost immediately stop your board from running out in the middle of the road or hitting someone accidentally, you're not alone out in the world be mindful of your surroundings, Rule 4 Know your Range if you're planning on riding without your charger or without knowing if you can charge up anywhere especially if you don't know how to ride a regular non powered board, Rule 5 Be Respectful and Mindful, Use crosswalk signals because they'll save your life and make sure you don't ride in the middle of the street or sidewalk like it was said in the video be sure to share the lanes and the paths with other drivers/riders/pedestrians, make sure you holler out to a pedestrian you may be coming up and around on and say on your left or on your right or which ever way your passing them on and slow down, sometimes tight spaces as I've learned can be your downfall depending on who you are because some people get anxiety in tight quarters and you could to and end up accidentally wobbling off the path or into a person, so Slow Down. Rule 6 Bring something to snack on or drink like water or a trail bar. oh and forgot to mention this but don't forget to test out which foot you are dominant with, an easy way to test this is to have someone push you and whichever foot you put out naturally first will determine which side of the board you ride on and if you're goofy footed or regular footed, with your goofy foot you'll have your right foot at the front of the board facing whichever way your normally riding and if you're regular footed you'll have your left foot at the front of the board. One last thing for new beginners, I Find that an empty parkinglot with Tarmac is one of the best places to get started with training on your new board, its super smooth and it provides great grip for your wheels which can help allow you to practice turning and swerving just make yourself a mental track that helps you practice all the things you should know about to help you ride your board, Happy Riding and if you read all this please leave a comment with some notes for other people to look at it would be much appreciated as I myself am still a new Rider.

If you made stickers that said, "Beautiful brain bucket" that fit onto a helmet, I'd buy that.
My most common injury, and the most common injury sustained by every other esk8 newbie I've talked to has been to the hands and for that reason, I highly, highly, HIGHLY encourage you to move that up (just under helmet) in your list! My second most common has been elbow, then knee, then a tie for shoulder and head.
First aid kit. Folks that are new WILL fall. The first fall is the worst. A first aid kit makes a WORLD of difference.

6:27 I started looking for Wells Fargo locations with the address of 1901, because that's some Chicago pedestrian level bullshit right there. The bike lanes are for anything but a bike there. People. Parking. Conversation spot...

I bought a Mepo Mini Skateboard and I had never learned how to skateboard before. I live on a college campus so I wanted to use it to get to classes and such.
The first time I got it, I rode my skateboard up and down a section of empty sidewalk, going about 2 MPH.
I thought for sure that I wouldn't get it and had just wasted my money on a skateboard.
I kept at it and now I can comfortably ride at 20 MPH and it's the coolest feeling ever. It took a couple weeks of practice, but I could tell I was improving.
If you're worried about never learning how to skateboard, trust me, if I can do it then you can too.

Foot breaking really came in handy. Before I got an electric board I learned how to break because hills were scary. Once my remote wasn't working while on campus, and I broke using my foot and felt cool at the same time.

For me I have been using a longboard for 5 years now and have never needed a reason to buy an electric one but now I have a job and I have rather steep hills about 20 degrees when I’m going to and from work I needed one, and it’s the most cheap option to a car, motorcycle and I was using a bike which was quick but hard so getting an electric longboard made the most sense because it helps me get to work and it’s also a bit of enjoyment, of course this comes at a cost for me and the quality of pavements and roads I am left with the option of the Ownboard bamboo with cloud wheels, and from this it’s been a great asset for getting to work

Just got mine two days ago and went 20mph (I’ve went 26 the first day I got it so I was really comfortable on the board already), and while braking I forgot to lean back, and got launched off. I rolled a lot and pretty far, thankfully I wore a helmet, and the cuts went past my clothes and hurts whenever I do anything. Always wear a helmet.

Awesome video! I wish I saw it before I got my electric skateboard. Although I started carefully, I tended to go way too fast too quick. And I didn't learn manual techniques first (like foot breaking, which I should've) I ended up fracturing my shoulder from panic breaking during a downhill decent. That experience definitely made me a lot more careful. I mostly use mine in urban environments with tons of cyclists and pederastins, and these days I never accelerate above 20km/h, and I mostly stick around 13-16km/h. (like a normal comfortable bike ride). You don't want to endanger yourself or those around you in the city especially since none of you are well protected. At a speed of

TIP: wear a small silicone based bike horn on your other index finger or retro fit to your controller as a warning device. People freak out when you blast 120db when they don't see you. Works a treat!
