    • @yamiscape
      @yamiscape Месяц назад

      This is fallacy. This the laziest misogynistic argument ever. You don’t need to have experience to pundit on something. We all have eyes. We all know what players are good and what how the game is played, I also played the game myself at a high level so by your own logic barely any guys can chat to me since I have more experience than most men having opinions on the game right now.
      Most men did not play the game at a high level but still pundit on the game. So not only are you a hypocrite, but you yourself are also engaging in the same identity politics you claim to hate. A woman cannot pundit on the men’s game because she doesn’t not have “experience” but yet white males can have opinions on women’s football and entire groups of people despite they themselves not having that unique experience of what it is to be a woman and play high level sport.
      The irony and hypocrisy is immense but typical coming from a straight white male. And this entire comment will go over your head since you weren’t taught to do self reflection because of, you know, white privilege.

    At last, I am not the only male who has been saying just this ever since wimmin started commentating on Mens’ Professional Football. All of them seem to have studied the Johnathan Pearce Handbook of commentating, which in itself is a meltdown of a drunken fan of the terraces and a South American hysterical and excitable parody from 1980. One in particular sounds as if a recording of Pearce has been slightly sped up or a dose of helium has been ingested.

      I completely agree with that. That said, I still prefer ex-footballers in the mens' game or other sports as such to comment on the sport: They have done it and at least some of them can talk about the game with experience and knowledge and delivery.
      Finally it's also about the criteria as opposed to just the output: The criteria imho should be the best fit for the game and ex-players are being sidelined for a poltical agenda that dictates pushing women commentators at best on grounds of they can do the job and worse that there's something wrong about the men because they're not women and so on that descends into madness. It's just toxic as opposed to what both most fans want and what is fair for the expertise and experience. Naturally for the womens' game, let the women comment who played with those other woman etc!

For one thing it costs nothing, but more often than not, I'll actually end up watching American broadcasts on NBC or Peacock because they get to show the 3pm Saturday kick-offs that we're *(STILL)* not allowed to watch over here in England.
    Now sure, they do have a woman hosting in Rebecca Lowe, she's fine, she's good at what she does, but then they'll have male pundits in the studio like Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe and Tim Howard. Men who have played at the highest level and know what they're talking about.
    Not only that, but all the commentators during the match will be men, and they're always recognizable English commentators (like John Champion and Peter Drury) who can't get employment over here anymore because their jobs have been taken over by the likes of Sue Smith and Lucy Ward.

    Yes valid points. That said some male pundits are awful. They give no more insight to the game than I could. And, you see some ex lower league male pros commenting on the women’s game and that seems odd too. I suppose you could argue that tennis commentators are mixed genders and that generally works. As regards commentary, as being distinct from Co-commentary or punditry, alot of it is about the voice. Robyn Cowen is a good commentator and this is in part due to her having a slightly richer voice than some of the more screechy types, who are unlistenable.

    Read some of the comments and I'm glad I'm not alone. But just to let you know how bad I have it, I live in New Zealand and often for Rugby, League, soccer and cricket I have to listen to AUSTRALIAN WOMEN so when you are sitting in the UK moaning about the W factor just remember there are some a lot worse off!

    It's gone beyond a joke. Always liked a lot of female presenters but having female pundits commenting on men's football at the highest level is just crazy. Have woman talk about the woman's game and leave the men to talk about the men's game. Simple

    He's the thing, if anyone commenting here has a daughter or sister, she comes home and says " Dad, BBC, Sky etc etc, want to pay me a HUGE amount of money for my opinion and commentary" would you tell her "No, that's not your place" or say " Bite their arm off kiddo" Genuine question, i'm curious!
