The only two things they need to change about this vehicle is the infotainment screen to have Apple CarPlay/android auto, and the front seats for the ass part are too short, The second those two things get added/changed, I’m buying one immediately. There is not one thing wrong with this vehicle. I’m getting tired of people complaining that nothing has changed, THATS THE FUCKING POINT! I was listening to the latest Lexus enthusiast podcast with you in it and they were complaining that Lexus isn’t changing anything / “falling behind”. Why would you change what’s reliable and going to be there for you 30 years down the road? Why is it because it’s consistent, it needs to change now? The engines are superbly reliable, The power and fuel economy are right in the middle between all of the different brands and the cars they make. I’m tired of people trying to make Lexus a technology company. The second naturally aspirated options are gone in place of smaller engines with turbos, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere or buying used. The one area I agree with is making them a plug-in hybrid, but finding a way to keep what they have as far as engines. As we grow in the future I do like the idea if I cannot get gas, I have the electric range. If I can’t get electricity, I have the gas range. I can sum up why these things are out selling versus the competitors in 2 seconds. Because Toyota and Lexus are reliable and that’s why their dealerships are SUPER low on inventory. In the last two months I have driven by over 10 Toyota and Lexus dealerships and there are very few new cars on their lot. Just for the hell of it I drove through the other dealership lots like Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Porsche, etc. and their dealerships are full of inventory of your choosing. Nobody wants their crap! I do think this pandemic made people realize that if new cars are scarce, and shit is going to hit the fan, they want something that’s going to be reliable as could possibly be. End of story. Lexus and Toyota are fine the way it is. There’s nothing technologically advanced about other brands that Toyota and Lexus doesn’t offer.
Thanks, Mike! I agree with you. Reliability is king...if you own the vehicle. Many luxury buyers lease. Also I struggle with the fact that many toyota models have left Lexus in the dust recently with powertrains, features, and technology. Doesn't sit well in my stomach. Good to see you!
Well said. Some people like the simplicity. The only thing the competitors offer is Apple Car Play and Android Auto. All the other non-sense they have built into their infotainment centers are useless, they’re just gimmicks to hide the fact that they just sold you a worthless POS.

They're selling out because most cars and especially SUV's are sold out. Lexus has lost it's way. Archaic technology and even the new tech on the ES lags. The LS, once their flagship, now sits on lots nationwide. And the Korean cars are creeping in to a segment that Lexus and Acura dominated. And most people are turned off by Lexus and their ostentatious front grills.
@@robertschulz654 It doesn’t matter jf most people are turned off by the grilles, which most aren’t regardless. Since their introduction, sales have increased on all models they were introduced on. It's tried and tested tech. You'll probably get 300k - 500k miles out of that truck. That's why people but those trucks. I don't get why manufacturers don't get that. ( I do, greed. but) Only fools spend 50k - 70k $ for a vehicle that won't last 8 years and will be in and out of the shop for 6 of those 8 years.
If I ever dump city life for the ‘Burbs, I’ll trade in my IS for the latest GX. Whenever I see one (or the LX) on the road I think, ‘man…that’s straight up profit for Toyota/Lexus. The R&D was paid 3 times over!’ 😎
I love the GX and I would rather have the side opening "refrigerator" rear door and this is one of the main reasons why I still have my 3rd gen RAV4 V6. I have a rooftop box that opens in the rear. By having the rear door open to the side it allows me to step up over the rear bumper to get better access to the box. With a traditional hatch it would block that access.
Have a 2017 and love it. I actually get close to 20 mpg mixed hwy and city. Build quality is great and you can just feel the quality. Sure the tech isn't great but good enough for me. Love when I start it first thing in the morning...the V8 roars.

My mom had an 08 and didn’t have to fix anything until 180000 miles. It had crappy gas mileage but the quality and durability of this truck is unbeatable. Also we have 5 people in our family and it worked fine for carrying all of us around.
My only complaint about the gx/lx/landcruiser is the small fuel tank. If they had a a bigger one I would be perfectly happy with the ‘outdated’ trucks.
Just purchased a 2021 Lexus GX 460 3 weeks ago Traded a 2021 toyota 4 runner limited in reason for trade dislike 6 cylinder wanted a v8. So let me start by saying my life long back ground on suv are v8 Landrover over 20 years body on frame type truck /vehicle for me hard to break away from I truly think this type of set up makes you feel like your driving something not like a bmw /land rover unibody that feels feather light for some reason I don’t like I also traded a BMW X5 in this year due to to much dealer visits so this leads me to a Lexus 460 for never to have to see a dealer again for unreliable junk .Just maybe for a tire rotation or a occasional oil change at a Lexus dealer . As for styling I never even put a age on the GX 460 never even thought that it was a 9 plus year design maybe it’s timeless as far as the apple car play who really needs it I have had it in several newer cars to really not even use I’m not a fan of my phone connected to my vehicle for two reason I love music so no interruptions for me to just to talk so I never add a phone to my cars and I don’t want to have my passengers to see my friends txting me on a screen just my thoughts on apple car play who needs it over rated .so for the v8 fuel economy no difference from a under powered 6 banger to a smooth v8 that runs effortless in a mountain state also better for towing so I say these small displacement engine are going to age and fall apart due to run hard and over worked so you will have to repair or just buy a stealer v8 engine that may consume a little bit more and never need repair gas is cheaper is my thoughts over the long haul.to the back door it a favorite to me reminds me of my Land Rover disco that I loved and never wanted to part with easy to use so maybe Lexus really has make the best GX 460 EVER ..

I actually own both car (RX and GX) and for a long road trips, I actually prefer RX seats over GX's. You don't get a butt ache on the RX. If you know what I mean. Now the ride height I definitely prefer the GX. As far as the brakes, I replaced my rotors and pads with EBC products and they are now stopping like a car way better than RX can stop even at high speed or heavy loads. Otherwise, nice video
I just bought me a GX 460 2021 about a month back and trust me with a luxury car like this you don't need all that technology features that are useless and waste of time I mean yes carplay would be nice but I've had that in my pilot and never used it at all and for me it was not a big deal so it varies from person to person...i find all the stupid technology as distraction on road. So with this bad boy I feel I am upgraded along with this car. I've had me a Honda Pilot 2018 for about 3 years but never felt this good though, I feel classic being in this car. My wife started to appreciate my taste a lot as she hated honda pilot for some reason. I got me a nightfall mica its like a navy blueish color and sepia light brown interior. All it needs is a tech upgrade inside like the Prado has. That's literally all it needs to keep going strong in the Lexus lineup. The GX is such a well designed vehicle, you can tell that the engineers wanted to make sure this thing was as bulletproof as possible. It gives you a sense of invulnerability, like being inside a tank.
True story: we do quite a few ski trips with ours and routinely get 18-20 mpg on the round trip. Granted it’s freeway-highway driving at 45-55 mph, right in the sweet spot. But yeah highway mpg is really not bad for how big it is.
GX owners don't seem to care about the latest and greatest technology or all kinds of bells and whistles, they just want a safe, high up, reliable vehicle they can put their family in and take anywhere and everywhere that drives well, and Lexus knows this. That's why this is probably going to be the last vehicle in their lineup to get modern tech like CarPlay

@@omarbryant7930 my GS 2017 didn’t come with Apple CarPlay. The Lexus service here recommended an aftermarket device which I bought and they installed it in my car. So I have now CarPlay.

You're comparing apples to oranges. There's a huge price difference.
@@andyleo8418 not much price difference between this and suburban, Yukon and expedition fully loaded. Starting price $53,450. Actually similar options and lexus is less expensive
@@paulhunt1580 no, the GX is not in the same category as the Expedition and Suburban. The GX is a luxury brand and also smaller. So the equivalent is a Lincoln Aviator and Cadillac XT6. Their prices are similar. The Chevy Trailblazer and Ford Explorer is the same size as the GX but cost a lot less. That's was my point. Unfair comparison in prices and class.
Lexus owner of many different models over the years. Presently own a 2010 LX and just bought a 2020 GX. I had a 2008 GX. What sold me on the new GX was the out dated tech as you call it. We looked at a new LX but for the life of me I just can't see the track pad gizmo thing as a useable way to navigate the info screen. I think the GX ride is just as smooth as the LX on comfort setting. I like v8 power and I look at it like this...if I can afford a lexus I can afford the gas to put in it, but I wish it was better on miles per gallon. for the record other than regular maintenance I have had zero issues with any of the lexus I have owned...reason I keep buying them!
you won't believe 2003 GX with 200k Miles are going for min 10K now a days only if you could find one.
Bought mine for $5,400 before the pandemic muhaha
The older LX’s have a more truck like ride than the GX in my opinion. Just wish the GX had a fold down tailgate, instead of the swing out hatch
my mom 4'9", she likes the "refrigerator door" tailgate cause she short and can close it like a door.
these types of tailgates are great for short people or little kids if they need to get something out the rear.

It is a very good vehicle but that center stack and infotainment debuted on the 2005 Lexus GS
They're selling out because you can get 400k out of the engines. BOOM!
Even more...
The R&D was paid 3 times over!’ 😎
We are on our second one, we love them. The most reliable vehicle in the US for many years. I too wish it had CarPlay, the only change.
Check Grom Audio. The Lexus service here recommended this, and they installed it in my GS.
Honestly, I've always that the rear door was such a drawback. But I never thought about it like that! THanks!
Have a 2017 and love it. I actually get close to 20 mpg mixed hwy and city. Build quality is great and you can just feel the quality. Sure the tech isn't great but good enough for me. Love when I start it first thing in the morning...the V8 roars.
Hey kirk is there gonna be redesigned version of the gx for the 2023 model year?
Watch til the end :)
I have a 2007 gx 470 with 230k miles same engine and regular maintenance. 10w30 hps royal purple. Ill take it anywhere never left me on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck.
I’ve had 2 GX’s, and the quality and reliability are second to none. The newer massive Lexis grill is dopey though - really wish it had the Prado version front end!
That grill is absolutely horrendous 😭
My mom had an 08 and didn’t have to fix anything until 180000 miles. It had crappy gas mileage but the quality and durability of this truck is unbeatable. Also we have 5 people in our family and it worked fine for carrying all of us around.
My only complaint about the gx/lx/landcruiser is the small fuel tank. If they had a a bigger one I would be perfectly happy with the ‘outdated’ trucks.
Other markets offer the spare mounted on the tailgate and a larger fuel capacity contained in the space underneath.
Agreed. My LX needs at least 10 more gallons. If they put the tundra tank in it then it would be perfect.
38 gallon tundra tank bolts right on.
I’m sure some modification can be done. Maybe something to look into
I thought they have 2 tank?
As for styling I never even put a age on the GX 460 never even thought that it was a 9 plus year design maybe it’s timeless as far as the apple car play who really needs it I have had it in several newer cars to really not even use I’m not a fan of my phone connected to my vehicle for two reason I love music so no interruptions for me to just to talk so I never add a phone to my cars and I don’t want to have my passengers to see my friends txting me on a screen just my thoughts on apple car play who needs it over rated .so for the v8 fuel economy no difference from a under powered 6 banger to a smooth v8 that runs effortless in a mountain state also better for towing so I say these small displacement engine are going to age and fall apart due to run hard and over worked so you will have to repair or just buy a stealer v8 engine that may consume a little bit more and never need repair gas is cheaper is my thoughts over the long haul.to the back door it a favorite to me reminds me of my Land Rover disco that I loved and never wanted to part with easy to use so maybe Lexus really has make the best GX 460 EVER ..
we bought a new 2021 gx 460 and i’m surprised at how much i love it! the only downside is gas and in california it’s hella expensive besides that i have no complaints, we are a family of 4 my kids are 9 and 5 and they love how comfortable and quite the ride is too
Land cruiser review please 😁
I actually own both car (RX and GX) and for a long road trips, I actually prefer RX seats over GX's. You don't get a butt ache on the RX. If you know what I mean. Now the ride height I definitely prefer the GX. As far as the brakes, I replaced my rotors and pads with EBC products and they are now stopping like a car way better than RX can stop even at high speed or heavy loads. Otherwise, nice video
Gotta love that V8!!
I think the GX is the best looking SUV lexus has
I just bought me a GX 460 2021 about a month back and trust me with a luxury car like this you don't need all that technology features that are useless and waste of time I mean yes carplay would be nice but I've had that in my pilot and never used it at all and for me it was not a big deal so it varies from person to person...i find all the stupid technology as distraction on road. Off-road it feels like you're on a pillow and floating around....this is hands down the best ever man ;) I will keep this car for almost 10-15 years.

The GX will rust out before the engine/trans/driveline go out. It’s a no brainer to buy, especially second hand. Sent from my 2012 GX 460 Base.
Couldn't agree more.
- Sent from my 2003, 19 YEAR OLD GX470.
Agreed. Just bought a 2012 GX with 160k and it runs so smooth.
Upgrade the technology and the mpg
All it needs is a tech upgrade inside like the Prado has. That's literally all it needs to keep going strong in the Lexus lineup. The GX is such a well designed vehicle, you can tell that the engineers wanted to make sure this thing was as bulletproof as possible. It gives you a sense of invulnerability, like being inside a tank.
It’s a good armored vehicle platform too.
True story: we do quite a few ski trips with ours and routinely get 18-20 mpg on the round trip. Granted it’s freeway-highway driving at 45-55 mph, right in the sweet spot. But yeah highway mpg is really not bad for how big it is.
I get 15-16mpg mixed driving.
The best part of the GX now is that my 2020 is worth more than I paid for it in February 2020.
what is your OTD price in Feb 2020?
$52500 before trade. Sticker was $57500

Definitely one of my dream vehicles. Might be a tad outdated, but personally, I couldn’t care less. Just a dependable, tank!
I think you’re seeing a lot of people trade up to get potentially the last model year or 2. GX owners are loyal. Just like the LX buyers getting the last of the V8
I have the 2015 GX460 and I have Zero issues with this SUV 6 years later. No creaks rattles or issues with the interior or exterior. This is a well built vehicle.
I like old tech like the the *99 4runner* but it is not available so I ordered a *Green 2022 460 "Black Line special"* . It should be at the port of los angeles in 3 days on Sept 24th. I know a new gen 460 is around the corner but it might have a V6 twin Turbo and direct injection which I would not buy. I only want the naturally aspirated V8.
If you don’t like the outdated things buy a different car don’t ruin the gx’s by giving it a whole new engine, well maybe newer infotainment would be nice, but this is what the go is known for don’t ruin it
Fuel economy necessarily negates smooth acceleration, small block v8, and what makes it good.
Everything you said "could be improved" can be summed up as 'make it less Lexus, and make it more like every other crossover shit box"

So many Millenials only care whether or not a vehicle has cup holders and an info-tainment system, and don't have a clue about what a vehicle is supposed to be. I've heard some ask the most basic knowledge questions about engines and drivelines.

The brake pedal feel is something you will start to appreciate after a while if you drive on highways. Because there is a lot of travel in the pedal you get a lot more control when breaking rapidly at highway speeds. You can very precisely control how much breaking force you want and not end up breaking too harshly
There should be more videos like that, showing you what to expect from a particular car in your everyday life, not just specs and power figures.
These are the things the salesmen won't tell you about because he doesn't know, and that you'll have to find out the wrong way.
13 mpg is the only reason I didn’t buy this and got a minivan instead. Very happy with the minivan
If Lexus pairs the GX's eventual replacement with more gears and some weight loss with the same v8 this beauty will continue to sell well. If the 4Runner goes 4cyl sales will dip. Maybe that'll drive would-be 4Runner buyers to the GX. It's not like there's much of an mpg diff bw the 4Runner 6 and the GX's 8
I like how you put the camera of the back seats by the infotainment
I'm actually surprised that they never upgrade the infotainment in the 2020 refresh, considering it was a big refresh and the prado has it's infotainment upgraded around 2018

Never had any major problem but I have friends with other models that had expensive repairs on their 8 cylinders as they aged. I don’t like the Lexus design statement with the big gapping grills. In a few years will go fully electric. Will see what happens with a new GX redesign but not holding my breath. Buying two new cars for daughters next year since they don’t need them as university freshman. If Toyota comes out next year with fully EV and there’s a supply might go that direction.
