  • The GX460 receives a couple updates from Lexus for 2021. Under the hood is the reliable 4.6L V8 producing 301HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the outside you will find a few changes to the exterior including optional wheels. On the inside the leather seats and surfaces are some of the biggest highlights. Is the 2021 Lexus GX460 a luxury SUV to buy or wait for a redesign?

    Purchased one in Jan 2021. Model is a 2021. 8K miles already. Pro's So comfortable its like driving a couch. Inputs easy to understand. Shallow learning curve. Older tech which I like I consider this a pro. Gets off the line quickly for its size. Cons: it blows around on the highway. Braking is a bit soft. Drinks gas (but you know this already). Sound system could be a bit better. Overall I would buy this again and plan to drive mine until the wheels fall off. This thing is high quality.

Super drive and very comfortable. This thing is to live for years without any breakdown. I have no complains, will drive for forever. I dont care infotainment at all. All buttons are easy, easy access to AC interfaces, audio, all good, simple and basic. I am yet to test offroad which is why i bought also.

      @Lee Iacoca SUV rivals don't have real AWD or permanent 4WD. Most SUV rivals are crossovers/unibody that have shit clearance- not real body on frame SUVs, where the term SUV originated from before stupid marketing blurred it all together. Most crossovers have FWD with "AWD" that kicks in some power to the rear when it feels slippage. This is inferior to 4WD or permanent/real AWD; it's a cheap substitute to make people feel safer- which it does, albeit to a lesser extent. It's also an older v8 and trans, though the best you could hope for with a modern setup on this size/shape vehicle is probably 2 more mpg at best.

Have a pretty comprehensive safety suite, and generally by tech people want android auto and apple CarPlay, I would still recommend the the Lexus without those mirroring features, generally those that buy these vehicles don’t buy them for their advanced tech. Lexus and Toyota don't have to drastically redesign their SUVs, they hold up. The 4Runner, Land cruiser, and anything Lexus makes will always be top notch. That's why they sell, it's not because they're super cheap, it's because the quality is always there. I might trade in my Nightshade 4Runner for this car simply because I know the drive will be smoother.

    Many reviewers have been talking about this truck lately and the take away is that this powerful solid competent and reliable SUV is the last of its kind. Although Lexus pioneered the SUV segment with the car-based RX, (itself still the top seller in the luxury segment), the GX and LX are among the last of the truck-based (body-on-frame) SUV's that are left. Which is sad for a lot of folks. Its understandable that most people cannot appreciate this vehicle because most will never go off-road.. (except of course for one woman who claimed her reason for wanting one was for when she takes the kids to soccer practice and sometimes has to park on the curb!) lol That and the price. Its expensive to purchase. This vehicle is Lexus's response to those who are well heeled and want to getaway to their remote second and third homes on a severe snowy day or rugged terrain. The majority of folks hopping around the malls constantly needing to log into their apple-play have other options and should stick with those.

    Owned the 2016 GX460, due to the body on frame design, it takes good concentration to drive on the freeway (my typical daily drive was 72 miles one-way). Traded it in for the 2017 RX350. The RX is much more forgiving, requires less steering input and handles bumps much better than the GX. No the RX does not have the off-road goodies but AWD is sufficient for 99% of the time even when doing light off-road.

    Toyota interiors in general are cheap with cheap materials. I own a 2014 Tundra (bought brand new 11/11/2013) and the black door panels have a bluish hue from poor manufacturing and they scratch if you look at them wrong. Does is work? Hell yes. Zero mechanical or electrical problems. BUT they need to get with the times and update the interiors across Toyota and Lexus and bring in better soft touch materials, less hard plastic, better backup cameras, just….better everything. There is a way to keep balance between dependability and new features but Toyota just rests on their laurels and pushes out the same unimproved vehicle year after year.
    The 2022 Tundra is supposed to be a completely new body, bi turbo V6 engine (gross) but I'm betting the interior will be overflowing with cheapness. In fact I'll put $$$ on it.

    • @blairbrown4812
      @blairbrown4812 4 года назад

      I feel as though that the instant Toyota upgrades their interiors,that's when they're priced out of the reach of the average customer. I'd rather have the El-Cheapo interior and the V8 that I can(barely)afford than an quality interior that I will get very intimate with as I await the arrival of the tow truck because my V6 crapped out while I was towing my mother-in-law's gargantuan Airstream. The only exception to that would be the Ram TRX,of course.

    Ok, so a long time GX driver here...my first GX470 was a 2004, then I switched to the 2008 and drove it for 12yrs - loved it at the time with exception of a very few things such as no power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors (my wife's 2008 RX350 had at least auto-dimming mirrors on her car), and also wished for ventilated front seats (my Father's 2006 ES330 had them! LOL)...fast-forward to 2021 - got a brand sparkling new GX Luxury (same color combination as the review car in this video)...guess what...Lexus dropped dual auto-dimming mirrors on a '21 GX after having them since 2010! WTF Lexus? Nickel and diming GX customers? Every one of your vehicles has dual auto-dimming mirrors either standard or available as an option...except for a $70k+ GX! Shame on your Lexus for trying to save $100 oh and keeping quiet about, because no one at the dealership knew about it - they were as surprised and outraged about it as I was.
    I have a strong feeling that GX is an afterthought for Lexus...I had this feeling for a long time and this '21 cemented my belief: no apple car play, no android, no active lane assist (i'm talking about stuff that's standard on every Lexus now) backup camera has the same resolution as my '08 did! Black trim around the gear shift is horrendous - every touch leaves a mark there. Even Mark Levinson stereo sounded better in my '08 than it does now! A quick check on lexus.com and you can see the Mark Levinson is 330W of total power on a fully loaded $72k 2021 GX, but a whopping 1800W on a $50k 2021 IS sedan!
    Here's my advice to Lexus - either drop this SUV, or bring it up to your standard that you apply to the rest of your lineup, but stop doing these cheap stunts that are insulting to us GX drivers!
