      @@lutomson3496 no. The XREAS is terrible. Delete that crap and upgrade to a real suspension setup. It'll cost you more to repair your XREAS than upgrading to something like Toytec, Eibach, Fox etc. Trust me, your 4Runner will drive so much more smoother compared to XREAS.
      The Lexus LX since 1998 has an active hydraulic system thats powered by a pump with accumulators at each corner. They're very reliable and very durable. I realize that for some people, this is a pet peeve. Who cares whether it's air or hydraulic? Well, for Toyota quality matters, and they don't do things that have poor quality.
      I have a pretty old LX570, with 120,000 miles it's working perfectly. When you say air suspension, you infer a system that breaks often. People think of Land Rovers, European vehicles like Mercedes and BMW, they have countless air suspension troubles.
      I think it's important that people realize that Toyota knew that air suspicions were a problem, and decided to do it differently, in a way that it's dependable. Incorrectly saying that it was an air suspension inferred that it had the same quality as these European brands, and that's a problem.

    I take my LX 570 regularly off-road. But of course, not with the stock 21" wheels. I use 18" wheels from Land Cruiser :-)
    It's a nonsense to take LX for offroad tests on 21" wheels. You should change the wheels/tires first. BTW, at the beginning of the video you mentioned that LX 570 is actually Land Cruiser and GX is Prado. It would be much better to say, that both are Land Cruisers. LX is Land Cruiser 200 and GX is Land Cruiser 150 or Land Cruiser Prado. Toyota use name "Prado" without words "Land Cruiser" just on a very few markets.
    Please, also note that LX DOES NOT have an air suspension! It uses hydraulic suspension.

      yes they could've just swapped out the 21" with the 18" since there was a LC200 there. but the reality is very few LX owners will take her off road enough to justify getting a second set of wheels/tires. personally i traded in the 21s for the 18s and put on all terrain tires. then I got a set of the base 20s and put on nice all season tires.

    • @runnerxa
      @runnerxa 2 года назад +3

      Every situation is different. I own both for almost a decade so here is my subjective opinion and may differ from yours...
      GX is not great if you haul a family of 6+ on overland adventures or have the need to tow more payload than 5500#. I know the GX is rated to tow 6500# but honestly I would never tow at my max rating. 3rd row access on the GX sucks. At least the LX's 2nd row center console folds down to allow access to the third row. My family prefer to ride the LX over my GX because it is more spacious inside and has a much more useful tailgate (changing table, sitting area, access roof). If I solo, I will take the GX for its nimbleness and size. Engine is much more powerful on the LX even though it drives like a boat. With heavier duty OME/Icon springs to assist the AHC suspension, you can safely tow 8100# just like the Land Cruiser despite LX's tow rating of 7000#. There is more sound insulation compared to my GX. The entire underbody on the LX is flat and tucked up, unlike the GX and 4Runner which have the front diff dip down. The stock suspension (AHC) setup is much better and reliable than the rear only air suspension on the GX. Plus my rear air bag leaked during one of my family overland trips. However, you can upgrade the GX's suspension with aftermarket ones and coil springs. You can fit 34in tires without extensive modification. You can fit a 34in tire in the spare location without a fuss whereas the GX's spare location max out at 32in (33in if you deflate the tire a lot). You can easily swap out the stock 20in wheels with 17in/18in Land Cruiser or Tundra wheels. The standard stock transmission cooler is twice the size of the one on the GXs that come with the towing package option.
      I (not a mechanic by trade) work on both cars myself and have spent many hours underneath both (preventive maintenance) as well as a 4Runner to know each platforms' built quality. The GX is well built, but the LX/LC is built even better. The LX/LC is worth the money if it fits your specific needs.

    I've owned both and both are excellent within their segments. We now have a Land Cruiser and a GX so we are obviously fans. If I had to pick just one between the LX and GX it would be the GX, but that's only because we prefer the Land Cruiser version of the 200 Series over the LX and if the Land Cruiser were in the mix then it would hands down in my eyes. You can do a sensor lift on the LX with its hydraulic AHC and clear 35's, the GX is a 150 Series so it's essentially a 4Runner with KDSS and all 5th Gen lifts work with it.

    Its's a little frustrating to see some of the world's best off road systems put into luxury vehicles where few people will use them off-roading. I'm not saying nobody will, but having a vehicle like a Lexus, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, G Wagons, etc, etc. lessens the probability that someone will because of the cost, and they hinder their potential by putting on low bumpers and big wheels/small tires.

  • @Nickwillfixit

    Enjoy these videos, but want to point something out. Yes I am a Toyota freak. It’s sort of annoying in every GX or LX video that you guys are skeptical or sort of surprised they perform well. Um duh… and yes people who buy these do take them off road, there are also people who buy Jeep’s and never take them off road. People buy what they can afford or what they like. The facts are that they both are over built Toyota / Lexus body on frame beasts. Put a bumper, some tires, and a lift and they are unstoppable.
