I love the parts of these videos like towards the end when you're just driving around providence and chatting about the roads and the city and whatnot. It just feels really cozy. Fantastic as always ❤
My good bud owns one of them. 2015 and fully loaded. This machine with 225K so far, rides like a dream. So comfortable, powerful and trouble free. Water pump, a starter and cooling hose. Nothing else. I am going to look for a used, lease returned, dealer cert with low miles. This car is simply for life, IF you care for it. Lexus is truly for life.
The GX is longest car/truck I’ve honest to goodness have owned bought my 03 GX470 at 166K now I’m at 190K. So on point on having a diverse fleet I have my 07 GS350 for the power needs.
I own the same truck (2023 GX 460 Premium Plus), purchased Dec 4, 2023. Eminent White Pearl/Sepia. Just a couple of my own observations after almost 4 months and about 1500 miles of driving, following ownership of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner SR5: 1. It IS a truck. It's. A. Truck. Truck truck truck truck truck. Got it? It's a truck. Get over it, people. 2. How to fix poor driveability perception: drive a Toyota 4Runner produced within the past 10 years. Now drive your GX. See? Fixed. 3. Seems like my steering wheel heats evenly, although I live in TX, so I don't have frequent need to use it, even in the winter. I have used it a handful of times though. 4. I haven't noticed any issues with my USB ports, although I have a short work commute, so I don't plug in my phone often. Seems like it/they've worked fine when I used them. I am obsessively OCD and I HATE covers being left open in my center console, so I pull out cables and close the covers unless they are absolutely necessary. 5. The AC is much easier to turn off than what you demonstrated. Either a) push Menu, Climate, then the little double ^ button below the mouse pad. Click the green A/C off; or b) open the submenu screen (to the right of the display), select the climate icon, then click the green A/C off. 6. Dislikes: no "SYNC" function for the climate control (i.e., you have to adjust the driver and passenger temps separately.) I hate the foot operated parking brake; either an electric brake or a hand lever would be 1000x better. I wish GX's had the 4Runner tailgate, to get the roll-down window and the traditional opening tailgate. The side-opening tailgate is genuinely a pain in the @$$ at times, particularly during Costco runs. I hate that the turn signal doesn't have a lane change function (won't flash 3 times on its own). You have to either hold it up/down, or manually turn the turn signal on or off when you change lanes. (Oh wait - this is Texas, we don't use our turn signals for any reason. Ever. Never mind.) I don't like how my plastic front bumper panels don't exactly color match the metal body panels, due to the difference in materials. I hate that I see a dozen other white GX 460's every day driving to and from work (should have bought an Atomic Silver or Nightfall Mica as originally intended). 7. Likes: the smooth, silent operation of the V8 and the 6-speed transmission; the ginormous frame beams and control arms that look like they were built to survive Armageddon; the build quality, the silent interior. The first thing my wife and anyone who sits in my vehicle says is "wow, it's so quiet!" Why yes, yes it is. The overall ownership experience of this tank, the fact that it is/was manufactured in Aichi, Japan at Toyota's Tahara assembly plant by Toyota's most senior and experienced assembly workers, alongside the Land Cruiser, LC Prado, 4Runner, and Lexus LX. Flipping the bird to the current administration that wants to force us all into EVs, whether we want them or not and whether it's the right decision or not.
Make sure the “3 Zone” setting is off, then it is synced. Picked mine up a couple weeks after you. Caviar. I love it so much I don’t care about the turn signals haha I do dislike having only 6 ratios in the transmission. I also see a lot of the white GXs. Must be the official color! Enjoy.
@@Real_Natural I totally concur! I hear all of the raves about the new GX 550, but I am unimpressed with these reviews, to include the 'fact' that the new GX 550s are more expensive, and have a wait-list of 6-12 months time ands the interior is less plush; also, the EKDSS is not standard nor is the moonroof, except on specific models.
Been following and enjoying your channel for a while. Keep up the good work! And I appreciate your comment about the cruise control stalk. I have a 2011 GX. Love the old-school CC stalk. I also have a 2019 Avalon with the newer button style. I hit a nasty pothole at 75mph yesterday because I took my eyes off the road for a few seconds to adjust my cruise speed setting. Fortunately no damage. Those potholes really make me appreciate the big sidewalls on the GX. And the comfy suspension. Your 2023 is an excellent purchase, in my opinion. Good choice!
I was in a very similar spot to you. I had a 992 T and a 1999 5 speed 4Runner. I traded the T for the winter, and didn’t want to spend another season in a 25 year old Toyota. I spent 2 months searching for a manual Bronco. And at $60k out the door - just couldn’t stomach that for poor build quality and no creature comforts. I test drove a GX on December 24th - love at first sight. Smaller than it looks, so comfortable and luxurious. And man - that build quality is just so nice. No rattles, no squeaks. I also have mark Levinson and a red interior, atomic silver exterior with no air suspension. $67k MSRP and I paid $59k for mine. 3 months/1300 miles later I am so, so happy. It’s my first automatic in 10 years but it has character. And more importantly - it allows me to share my love of cars with the people who matter to me. Friends ask to be driven in it, I’m gearing up for my first road trip in it. It’s a great city street parking car here in Chicago and just all around really safe and comfortable. And I like the surprise third row I am considering undercoating mine, have you thought about it? And I have the same USB issue, thought it was my cable. Have you seen any fixes online? Appreciate the debrief and love your collection and channel. I have a Boxster GTS coming in July and I think it’ll make for a nice two car solution Despite it not being “special” - I think it radiates tons of soul. Can’t wait to make good memories in mine
Apart from a somwhat dated interior which I personally don't mind, this is just as good in every department or even better compared to new ones and there's nothing wrong in buying it. There are still some brand new ones left in dealerships where I live.
Your initial ownership video was icing on the cake of our decision to buy one for my wife. Just to further validate your great deal, we too paid $56k against MSRP of $63,200. (No Mark Levinson, second-row bench). Fortunately, no driveline issues, no steering wheel heat issues, no USB port issues. We just passed the three-month mark, with 2,900 miles on the clock. My wife loves it, and I really enjoy it. The mix of quirky tech, thoughts of how great it'd be with an eight-speed transmission, lack of auto stop/start, and reconciling driving a brand-new 15-year-old vehicle all kind of add to it's charm. Totally an "I remain a 13-year-old boy" spend, but I swapped out the stock muffler for a Borla Pro XS, and added a 4" rolled SS exhaust tip. The exhaust tone is really subtle, and still silent at cruise, but now cold starts and throttle tip-in offers that sweet reminder that there is indeed a V8 under the hood.
@@drw1926 Nope, universal. P/N 40659. The important specs: 2.5" offset inlet and 2.5" center outlet. It's notably shorter than the stock muffler, so you/muffler shop will need to add a short 2.5" extension.
@@Michael-ul6ln I captured a cold-start, but it was a really windy day and the audio wasn't happy. It really is subtle, but just enough to draw a smile. On cold-start, the sound of the engine fan still dominates all. :)
Coming from a 2002 LX470 to a 2023 GX460, the GX actually feels more old school in how it accelerates and brakes lol. But you are right, it is old school and it feels great
Definitely agree on having the diverse fleet of cars. Despite I can put the „Porsche GTS 4-litre only parking” on my parking spot my cars cannot be more more different from one another since one is a N/A flat six midship roadster and the second one is a V8TT family hauler SUV. I absolutely love them both, actually I believe that I finally got this ultimate #twocarsolution and it’s exactly as you said - each time I do a switch it’s way easier for me to appreciate their strengths. No matter which I choose, it’s always a pleasure to drive!
I love the carrots and ice cream analogy. That looks really funny out of context. Anyway, I feel the same thing - when I drive the wife's X3, it is carrots. It's not a boring car, but it does provide a palate cleanser before I get back into the IS 500. I would say your cars are definitely more ice cream, where the IS 500 is more like sugary cereal lol. But anyway. I agree, even car guys need a chill cruiser that just encourages comfy, relaxed driving. I still think it is wild that you have a GX - I never pictured that. But I get it - something to putt around in and keep the miles off the toys. Enjoy it!
The drive-line quirks are prevalent in my 05 Tundra as well. Sometimes when its super cold you will be at a stop on the brakes and it almost feels like someone rear ended you slightly. If I'm not mistaken, this is slight play on the U Joints on the driveshaft. Its engineered that way to have some give. Also when slowing down to 10mph ish and getting on the gas, the transmission acts funky. I'm pretty sure its the torque converter locking/ unlocking. Super good video as always 👍
One of the things I liked and got out of this video is when you take your hands off the wheel, the vehicle almost immediately drifts slight right. Glad to confirm it’s a normal thing on these GXs and 4Runners more than on other cars.
in a family of Mercedes owners (including myself), i have always had a soft spot for Lexus. these have always seemed like nice cars, so im happy to see you’re finally happy with yours!
Glad youre liking it man. I have a '21 premium plus. Such a relaxing driving experience. Extremely quiet, buttery smooth. Lexus reliability gives great peace of mind. It really does everything you need it to and you'll be comfortable doing it. My other car is an '18 mazda 3. I completely get what youre saying about switching cars. When I get in the mazda its so much lighter/quicker/more nimble that it feels like a go kart.
yeah I didn’t think so. I did a lot of comparison shopping in my area and all the other low mileage 2023’s were around 59k. But I would have put a lift and tires
That thunk shunk thing your talking about with the transmission definitely isn’t a GX exclusive thing, my grandmother sienna occasionally does it and my 06 GS does it as well under the identical circumstances. It’s odd because most of the time it’s perfectly smooth and doesn’t have that delay or confusion
You will have zero regrets if you like smooth driving comfortable vehicles. Install the K&N air filter and get up to 25 mpg on the highway and 17-18 mpg for suburb driving results. Go easy on the peddle and you will be fine. BTW- I love that old school foot peddle emergency brake!
Could not agree more There is something calming about driving this old school dinosaur. our '21 has been completely free of issues, picked it Sep 2021 when the '22 came, got 10% off msrp, which during Covid times was a great deal. Decided on the '21 due to pricing, added Beatsonic Apple car play unit and called it a day. The fuel economy does not really take any big penalties when you do 80-85, in S Florida all road are flat, seem like you have decent mpg until 65mph, after that it drops 1-2mpg until 85mph. (it cruises really well at 90 (2250 rpm feel like engine happy place :) ) now with 36k worry free miles and just replaced OEM tires (have 19") with Defender LTX
That thump you are describing @18:25 could be dry driveshaft joints in need of lube. Based on feedback on ClubLexus, dealers don't grease them despite the factory recommended maintenance asking for it. There was also a TSB affecting later years on this subject - maybe what yours is experiencing.
I live around this area and merge onto 295 south from 146 every morning for college and that part of the highway is always chaos. I use 99 a lot to merge safely to 295 by turning onto sayles hill road. Love the channel and have been using your driving advice to be better on the roads to not be an ass on the highway, also nice to see roads and areas I have driven on in your videos
Yeah, used to work up there and to try to get form 146 south to 295 south can be basically suicidal if there is enough traffic. There is just is not enough room to merge. Going from 146 north to 99 north could get pretty wild as well! Combine this with level of driving on 146 in general, and your commute that is guaranteed to get on your nerves. I've been passed MULTIPLE TIMES by people IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE on 146 while I'm doing 80+ MPH in the right lane. Yikes! 😬
@@carolinacars739 yeah, people in those island are phychopaths. I’m more nervous getting back on 146 from 295 cause with the construction that’s been going on, there is only like 20 feet to merge on instead of the big lane, so sometimes people are stopped at the end of the ramp because of cars in the right lane. 146 in my opinion is one of the worse highways, especially since a lot of other on-ramps are designed awfully for the speed of the highway
Great video. I have a Lexus GX 460 and a Toyota tundra TRD pro 2021, and you are right you cannot beat Toyota’s V8 engines. They are so great. My wife drives the GX 460 I drive the tundra I prefer the tundra because of the power. Ironically because the GX 460 requires premium fuel it actually cost me more money to drive that than my tundra which is only requires unleaded. But that said, you don’t buy these vehicles for MPG you buy them for their long-term reliability and that cannot be beaten.
Just got a 2013 f30 335i, I agree that it’s sooo nice to just have a comfortable and somewhat new daily. Still have my 88’ e30 for the more raw and manual 2 car solution 👍 used to daily that, then a 2002 e39 530i so that extra decade is huge for comfort and some tech
Dude my top USB port doesn’t work with CarPlay either. Bad batch of USB hardware? Got a premium plus like you. I absolutely love this thing. Yes it has compromises but you love it anyway. I would love an 8 spd in it though. Really requires a lot of peddle to get it to downshift.
My 19 GX has the slight driveline clunk on acceleration when cold in the winter, intermittently. I think it plagues quite a few of us that do dusty, off-roading and/or salty winter driving, but the driveshaft grease fittings often need a little more routine care. I get the sense Lexus techs overlook it unless asked at routine interval services if relied upon too. Great review, feel very similar about my GX, incredibly endearing quirky “truck”.
Wow! $56K- that is a 4Runner price, so you got a great deal. This is an old, comfortable, gas-hog SUV/truck body-on-frame luxury vehicle! It is NOT a sports car, so you purchase the GX 460 with all of its limitations and benefits accordingly. The GX 500 is more oriented and marketed as an off-road SUV and that's fine, but most SUVs never leave the road/pavement. I love the smooth, steady V8, which goes as fast as I can safely drive it around the suburbs and highway. I had my GX 460 up to 80 mph and it had zero issues and it was as smooth as when I drive it at 45 mph. The KDSS is great too especially in corners. The elegant slow GX 460 makes your a safer more responsible driver,, you're not in a hurry to get anywhere fast in the GX 460, you simply enjoy the steady ride that gets your comfortably to your destination. Also, the GX 550 only gets 1 mpg over the V8 GX 460
I love your recommendation to have two differing cars to “palette cleanse” to get the feel of the cars. I’m going to use that to explain why I have my F15 X5 and 6spd GTI to my wife, haha
Perfect size, I think the wheelbase on this is like an inch or two than shorter my Alfa Giulia! Which is not a large car by any means. I’m sure this is a fact that will shock most people.
I picked one of these up recently lol. 2022 CPO with 18,000 miles. Silver on Black interior, plastic seats. Paid 54K, premium trim but no Mark Levinson :(. That’s probably the only thing I’m slightly wishing I had, although the stock sound system is still way better than my previous vehicle. Otherwise, I’m in absolute love with the vehicle and it’s the ultimate road trip car. Glad I picked it over the 200 series Land Cruiser, personally. Really like the fake leather seats unexpectedly, they feel super comfortable and seem like they will hold up better. Maybe I should have bought new a year ago, but not feeling too down on myself since I can afford it a lot better now.
You mentioned that like the small icons on new screen of GX. For me I wish they are bigger because I missed it sometime when touching it. The other things I didn’t like the divided screen that I set where I wanted, it’ll change later while driving even I had default settings OFF. Also the huge front grille from 20-23 GX looks awkward, not tough as truck-like. That’s why a lot GX owners modify the front bumper. Other than that I think it’s good choice for reliability and longevity despite bad fuel mpg. Thanks for your video. Btw the ventilated seats don’t feel a bit cooler at all!
I used to own one of these. 2012. The most fun car I've ever had. Unfortunately it's just not as comfortable as something like a minivan and not as spacious hence sold it. But I do miss that big v8 and can't wait to get back into one in the future.
I have a 2016 and its a great daily, put around 60k miles on it so far and its been zero issues, unsurprisingly! Planning to trick it out with an aftermarket suspension, offroad tires and bumper and aftermarket rims, maybe a lightbar, etc, and get a 2nd car that scratches my itch for speed, maybe an M8?
I bought this with the idea of selling my 4Runner. I ended up keeping both. I will lift my GX to make it look more off-road like my 4Runner. They are awesome cars. I hear the GX is a lot smoother than the 4Runner. I have to disagree from a personal standpoint. I don’t see too much of a difference between the two in terms of driving experience.
26:55 This as to be the clunkiest hill start assist lol. I knew I wasn’t alone, when I jump from my Silverado to my MS3 it feels like I’m going from a bus to a go kart.
I was thinking about a GX, have owned the old 470, and your video inspired me to check a 2023 out. Man, I was not impressed with how they drive. They just feel…large and lumbering. I was thinking I would be wowed by the luxury beyond my Nightshade ‘21 4Runner, but not really. Even the Marc Levinson, which was an amazing 8 ohm audiophile dream in my old 470, just kind of sucked in the new GX’; same issues with frontal imaging, lack of mid-range, and damn what a cheap volume knob. Red interior was washed out looking compared to my M car’s leather, lots of plastic trim, limited cargo space, the barn door with lift glass…. I was really looking forward to an upgrade and it just wasn’t an upgrade. Super disappointed that it seems like Lexus and people in general have forgotten what is truly quality.
i was hoping if you could also take shots or preview the car often from outside as well, kinda wanted you to take a walk around the other gx 460 at the end, and talk about it a little in comparison, as it was same color to yours.... I believe that was an older trim from the headlights if i am not wrong
I own a 23 GX460 and learned I needed to really press into the brake pedal to engage hill assist. Providence hills haven’t been a problem since I figured that out… it may just be a quirk of my own car though I’m not sure 🤷🏼♂️
9:17 that was definitely unexpected 😅 It’s so rare to see close calls like that on car reviews, i always encourage people that I know to get dashcams and that’s why!! I also love the comparison between eating carrots for six months then eating ice cream feels so good. I have a 4Runner TRD Off-road and a GR86 and it’s so good to take the GR86 out after daily driving 4Runner. Everything is so instant (the braking, steering, etc.) compared to the 4Runner, but that’s what I like bout the 4Runner. It feels like a tank when I drive it. I always made a joke about the tow hitch in our 4Runner protecting our car because if someone were to hit it, they would’ve ended up destroying their bumper and radiator because we’re so high up 😂 I also loved how the Toyota Navigation told you welcome to a new state. I take road trips almost every month or every other month, almost 65k miles on our 2021 after a cross country US trip and multiple other out of state places
Believe it or not I was cross shopping this and a pilot. Ended up with the pilot for the fuel economy, transmission and 3rd row/ trunk space. Right now I have 3k on my car. Hoping you keep this as long as I keep mine so I have an idea of what life would have been if i got the lexus.
Just found one exactly like yours 2023 GX460 premium white outside, red interior with 11k miles. They want $55,999 should I pull the trigger? I have a 2015 Land Cruiser that has been great after 165k miles so I think it would be a good idea before the turbo v6s replace the good ol’ v8s
Just do it! It rides like an old 1960s Limo in Comfort mode! Super quiet and confute ride. Go easy on the accelerator and install the K&N air filter and this will be your 'forever' vehicle.
Currently own a 13 e92 m3, a 2022 g80 m3 and now a new to me 2022 gx460 white with red interior. Sold our 2020 bmw x7 for it. The x7 was brilliant to drive. The b58 motor was glorious. It was the best driving SUV ive ever had, but in typical luxury bmw fashion if it's not an m car; it depreciates like a stone. The second row stopped folding. The sunroof stopped opening. The front angel eye led stopped working. Bunch of small things aside from the motor was going out. The gx460 was a no brainier for me. I wanted a sturdy V8 that can tow small items if need be. I wanted a body on frame. I wanted tremendous 4x4 capabilities. I needed a third row. Sometimes simple is much better. I previously owned a 2013 g63 AMG and loved everything aside from the maintenance. In a weird way, the gx460 feels like an older g wagon if it were properly put together and with half the power lol.
@TedwardDrives same. In the g63 I was always waiting for something to break. Something about the gx just being sturdy, reliable, and cheap to maintain makes it so much more worthwhile to own
Love that cruise control stock. My 98 4runner had it and my current 2010 corolla has it. Its the only cruise control i use just got a lexus rx450h+ and havent even really tried yet more of a disteaction. The old stock. So simple
I do really wish Toyota found a way to keep the 4.6 and 5.7 V8 in the newer trucks. Imagine the new tundra but with the 5.7 but now with the twin turbos and the I-Force maxx package
The cruise control stock is really useful and doesn't take your eyes off the road. We have it in both of our Toyota vehicles and yeah dude, I'd already be used to the Lexus GX if I drove one cause both our Toyotas are pre-2012 and aside from loaner vehicles, we never driven an owned vehicle newer than a 2011 which is what my dad has. We're not loaded with money, we can't afford anything newer but when the time comes to upgrade, he'd be leasing so that way he can get a new Grand Highlander or Subaru Outback that he's interested in and can lease newer models every few years. I of course, will be going with a 2016-2019 vehicle, especially if I go with a muscle car or Porsche because I do not like big infotainment screens and I don't like the all-digital dash of the gauges. I prefer analog gauges (at least the speedometer), and I prefer a reliable old fashioned radio. Ok maybe they're not the most reliable but you can replace radios a hell of a lot cheaper than infotainment screens for sure and I guess I'm in the minority but I use the cd player to play burned cds on my long drives and I do lots of long distance driving since just about everything I go to is about 1 hour or more away from my place.
Yes. I picked up es350 2024 from Watertown 1 week after your first video. One of the managers told me he would send you a gift card lol. I think your car might have a button for the deicer but es350 does not have buttons for AC and deicer so I tried voice commands and it worked just fine. Sync button is missing too. I always sync driver and passage climates through voice command. @@TedwardDrives
All you have to do when it’s off is just hit one of the fan buttons; not sure why people keep missing this. I suppose when a system is off you’re looking for an on button though 👍
I recently purchased it at a great deal as investment. Had the 2021 dodge Durango r/t and sold that to get this one, yeah I've got the gx460 2023....same trim,......and exactly same exterior and interior color as yours here in Dubai, i am loving it, every time you step in it is a like your kingdom taking over cities, long trips, work, etc etc . I do notice the differences it had from my Durango, particularly from a smaller and a performance SUV to this SUV, but in the end it's truly what you look in for when you get these vehicles, also not to mention its a highly respected car to have among others anywhere, Funny part is.... after my purchase your gx60 uploads came across my search, i enjoyed it... and since then I'm a fan and subscribed. As a car enthusiast i really enjoy your uploads!.......and especially the gx40 as i have one too hahahaha.........
To me, a viewer, the situation at 26:18 was so funny. Such an easy situation to avoid in the first place or to resolve it by the CLA driver simply being a bigger man and yet both Benz drivers chose neither. Speaking of headlights, if your headlights blind others when not using high beams, doesn't that essentialy mean that they need to be put lower than they already are?
The new GX 550 is not as luxurious as the GX 460 with less wood and leather interior touches. The EKDSS is also only on the Trail Edition and the moon roof is not standard either.. Yes the GX 550 excels in off-road usage. but how many people use a $70-$80K vehicle for rugged off-road use? Also be careful of any 'first year' new model introduction, as nice upgrade changes will be coming about in year #2 or #3. Both the engineers and consumers will be giving feedback on the first year GX 550, so wait a year or two if you can for the GX 550, plus the wait time will be reduced and more, better colors offered.
Maybe back in 2008 I’d have thought soccer mom. But when I see one of these now I assume it must be owned by an enthusiast; you really have to want one of these for specific reasons - it’s far from a default SUV choice in 2024
Speaking of the size, I recently learned the GX is a bit shorter than a new Honda Accord. So yea its tall, but it doesn't take up much space. Also agree on the braking, never had such a soft pedal.
Tedward i recommend looking at a wireless dongle wireless for android auto or car play it plugs right in just got to find a spot for the device to leave it alone and i actually use it in my current 2020 jeep compass for the usb port on the bottom for the fear of it going bad from plugging stuff in and out all the time soi just leave that alone use the lightning port for charging my phone and pretty much its okay it connects when i'm near the truck when its tsarted up and disconnects when i walk away so little iffy there but it works and keeps it out of my mind and i can leave my phone in my pocket all the time
I was driving down North street there a couple of weeks ago. I kid you not, three cars in a row were all coming at me over the yellow lines. Used to be a nice little road to cruise down, now it gives me anxiety

just a thought about the heated steering wheel. - maybe the left side might be hotter due to it being closer to the side windows and sunlight heating the leather? just a theory but great video as always!

I own the same truck (2023 GX 460 Premium Plus), purchased Dec 4, 2023. Eminent White Pearl/Sepia. Just a couple of my own observations after almost 4 months and about 1500 miles of driving, following ownership of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner SR5:
Enjoy.

I totally concur!
It's so frustrating when you're a generally attentive driver and lose focus for a moment..then BOOM.
Love your honesty through all of this along with the dealer helping you solve the headaches you’ve been having
Love the old school inefficient 4.6,rock solid reliable.
And I like the surprise third row
I am considering undercoating mine, have you thought about it? And I have the same USB issue, thought it was my cable. Have you seen any fixes online?
Appreciate the debrief and love your collection and channel. I have a Boxster GTS coming in July and I think it’ll make for a nice two car solution
Despite it not being “special” - I think it radiates tons of soul. Can’t wait to make good memories in mine
Just looked at one today and you’re correct it’s smaller than it looks. My exact words when I saw it in person, perfect for my garage.
Recently got a GX in Nori green. Absolutely love it.
That’s the best color. Blackline edition?
Yessir! Bought it from a good friend. Definitely keeping it forever.
Is the Borla muffler specifically for the GX? Was it pretty much "plug and play", or were any modifications required?
@@drw1926 Nope, universal. P/N 40659. The important specs: 2.5" offset inlet and 2.5" center outlet. It's notably shorter than the stock muffler, so you/muffler shop will need to add a short 2.5" extension.
@@jerryburdick8051any chance you have a video of the sound on start?
@@Michael-ul6ln I captured a cold-start, but it was a really windy day and the audio wasn't happy. It really is subtle, but just enough to draw a smile. On cold-start, the sound of the engine fan still dominates all. :)
Coming from a 2002 LX470 to a 2023 GX460, the GX actually feels more old school in how it accelerates and brakes lol. But you are right, it is old school and it feels great
I love the 2023 Lexus GX 460 my favorite model is the luxury build ❤
Enjoyed your review! I just bought the last 2023 GX460 from my local dealer (Boston) a couple months ago and love it!
Love your videos, man! Just got my 23' GX460 to complement my 981 Cayman this year and can say that they make a nearly perfect 2 car package!
Solid choices. We did a GX and a Tesla
Long-time viewer here who just hasn’t had the time to watch all the videos anymore. Just wanted the say I dig the new Tedward intro animation!
appreciate you checkin in!
That is such a nice vehicle and I’m happy for you, Tedward. The red seats are so pretty and it seems so comfortable. Good choice.❤
Thank you! some people really hated the red when I bought it but I love this interior so much

Glad youre liking it man. I have a '21 premium plus. Such a relaxing driving experience. Extremely quiet, buttery smooth. Lexus reliability gives great peace of mind. It really does everything you need it to and you'll be comfortable doing it.

Just picked my new 2023 gx460 up last week. Absolutely love it.
what trim and price?
@@Racontact I paid 61k. It’s a premium plus. Has a 3 inch bilstein lift and 33" Nitto ridge grapplers that Lexus installed. Had 4000 miles on it
@@Kdavis8377 ok I guess that’s not a bad deal considering the extras
yeah I didn’t think so. I did a lot of comparison shopping in my area and all the other low mileage 2023’s were around 59k. But I would have put a lift and tires
Nice! last month I got a literal new 23 P+ with Sport and Captions msrp 68115 paid 59k. It wasn’t on their inventory books.
Let’s go! I’m looking to buy one of these soon and love hearing your experience with it.
So far I'm still really glad I got it. It's great to have one vehicle that I can take anywhere and not worry about pot holes and curbs etc.
Better hurry up then! 2023 is the last year to get a new GX 460
@@edmundcharles5278 already secured one. Much love!🙏🏽
Dongar technologies sells a 10 pin to usb cable that plugs in from the mirror/ radar cover so you can clean up the wiring to the garmin dashcam
We have a similar driveway. We have a 22’ GX and a 24’ GMC Sierra AT4X with the 3.0L. Both are incredible rigs!
Could not agree more
There is something calming about driving this old school dinosaur.
our '21 has been completely free of issues, picked it Sep 2021 when the '22 came, got 10% off msrp, which during Covid times was a great deal.
(it cruises really well at 90 (2250 rpm feel like engine happy place :) )
now with 36k worry free miles and just replaced OEM tires (have 19") with Defender LTX
As a Honda technician, the usb thing in my experience is from not using oem cables.
Dude my top USB port doesn’t work with CarPlay either. Bad batch of USB hardware? Got a premium plus like you. I absolutely love this thing. Yes it has compromises but you love it anyway. I would love an 8 spd in it though. Really requires a lot of peddle to get it to downshift.
we definitely take our to soccer ⚽️ practice 😅... love your red interior ❤

GX owner here, you can disable that eco light if you’d like in the settings. I too found it to be pointless and annoying
So crazy seeing a POV drive through my hometown. It has its faults, but god I love RI!
The bottom USB port in my LS 500 is also the only one that works with CarPlay. 5:25
The last 10 minutes sums up my model 3 ownership
Funny you mention Dave's hot chicken, I was just there lol.
This car just has a perfect balance of reliability, luxury and practicality
planning on buying this truck in about three months.... great review
OMG - reels for the stupid stuff caught on dashcam sounds like a phenomenal idea.
Looking at the turbo engine problems makes this suv so worth it.
i was hoping if you could also take shots or preview the car often from outside as well, kinda wanted you to take a walk around the other gx 460 at the end, and talk about it a little in comparison, as it was same color to yours....
I always made a joke about the tow hitch in our 4Runner protecting our car because if someone were to hit it, they would’ve ended up destroying their bumper and radiator because we’re so high up 😂
I also loved how the Toyota Navigation told you welcome to a new state.
I love the pilots v6 and it’s really comfortable. It’s the better driver by a long shot

In a weird way, the gx460 feels like an older g wagon if it were properly put together and with half the power lol.
haha every time I get in a g63 im reminded about how slow the GX is...but I still wouldn't have it any other way
@TedwardDrives same. In the g63 I was always waiting for something to break. Something about the gx just being sturdy, reliable, and cheap to maintain makes it so much more worthwhile to own

I do really wish Toyota found a way to keep the 4.6 and 5.7 V8 in the newer trucks. Imagine the new tundra but with the 5.7 but now with the twin turbos and the I-Force maxx package

can you make another video of you just driving around in the "hilly" areas? that was really fun to watch!
Sure I’ll do a providence tour
14:10 And now we will learn to respect harmonic mean.
@tedward if you top up the grease in your driveshaft, it’ll minimize the driveshaft clunk.
Thanks! I’ll have to take a look at where to grease it up. Have never done this before haha

Yes, I use voice commands for the AC, deicer and syncing climate control. I think you might have the deicer button in GX.@@TedwardDrives
All you have to do when it’s off is just hit one of the fan buttons; not sure why people keep missing this. I suppose when a system is off you’re looking for an on button though 👍
7:45 YOUR RIGHT!
its literally a Luxury truck.
Just like the Escalade
Yes. Which is why I prefer the Lexus over the Toyota. The 4Runner low beam were aimed really high
Sick intro!
Its definitely classified as a "Truck"
Crazy how this and the new 4th gen mdx gets similar mpg. What are you doing Acura
Porsche and Audi are the only others that still use a stalk for cruise control I think
Great purchase price. We paid sticker on our non ML audio Blackline. Sadly will sell to make room for the 24 GX
@@edmundcharles5278 I have a first year Tundra and first year GR Corolla
If you haven’t figured it out already the 550 is not an upgrade hard pass their👍
Maybe back in 2008 I’d have thought soccer mom. But when I see one of these now I assume it must be owned by an enthusiast; you really have to want one of these for specific reasons - it’s far from a default SUV choice in 2024
My steering wheel heats up better on right sidethan on left side. I have one more gx 460 and it’s heated wheel is equally heated
Speaking of the size, I recently learned the GX is a bit shorter than a new Honda Accord. So yea its tall, but it doesn't take up much space. Also agree on the braking, never had such a soft pedal.
Tedward i recommend looking at a wireless dongle wireless for android auto or car play it plugs right in just got to find a spot for the device to leave it alone and i actually use it in my current 2020 jeep compass for the usb port on the bottom for the fear of it going bad from plugging stuff in and out all the time soi just leave that alone use the lightning port for charging my phone and pretty much its okay it connects when i'm near the truck when its tsarted up and disconnects when i walk away so little iffy there but it works and keeps it out of my mind and i can leave my phone in my pocket all the time
We bought Luxury 2023 version msrp was 73k we took it for 67k & absolutely loved.
I was driving down North street there a couple of weeks ago. I kid you not, three cars in a row were all coming at me over the yellow lines. Used to be a nice little road to cruise down, now it gives me anxiety
Just had a woman cross yellows...I honked. she swerved. and then she honked at me! lol what on earth did I do!?
@@TedwardDrives It's infuriating. It's getting harder to enjoy rare cars in the area. How was the chicken? I trust you've tried out Den Den Fried Chicken over off of Thayer?
Both my 2000 LX470 and 2015 GX 460 have the 10 mph jerk when you get on the throttle after being off throttle!
I feel really lucky this one doesn’t but I’ve drive a bunch with it. Definitely common!
@@TedwardDrives I straight up thought that it was just a thing with all these Lexus SUVs. I didn't know that some of them drive smooth until you said it in the video. I was shocked haha
@@TedwardDrives I think it's awesome that yours doesn't have it after getting 2 other cars with issues. You got the perfect one now!
I have a 2006 Lexus LS430 that seems to have this issue but that is transmission related in my car so it may not be the same thing - oddly enough using the "PWR" transmission mode seems to help it out massively.
just a thought about the heated steering wheel. - maybe the left side might be hotter due to it being closer to the side windows and sunlight heating the leather? just a theory but great video as always!
Eh when it’s 10 degrees and snowing there’s no sun haha
bro your content's are just so satisfying and relaxing to watch..............i really want to see you driving a RAM1000 TRX(hennessey) . Like i just want to see you driving it...........damn you are really just too damn good at what u do . Bro i would really appriciate an reply . Keep up the good work😀😀
Thank you!!
Good video. We need a Civic Type R update video!
Soon! I drove it a little today
I've got a 14 with 83k. Going 250k on it, easy. 3k oil changes.
Are you going to put better wheels and tires on it? Loving mine but I'm tired of these OEM Crapstones and 18in rims. I want to go with lighter rims and lighter tires if not the Defenders. BTW, this thing dont have hill assist so keep that foot on the brakes.
