    As a GX 460 owner I can tell you there is no better mid-size SUV on the market. Yes, the mpg is bad, yes it is dated, but the reliability and power in that 4.6L V8 is excellent. I'll pay a little more at the pump to know I'm not going to break down and have long-term reliability that doesn't cost me thousands of dollars out of know where.

    The secret sauce of the GX is that its a 4 out of 5 in most categories. Towing? Not the best, but above average. Off-Road? Not the best, but above average. Ditto comfort. Ditto passenger and cargo space. It's big enough to do big car things, but it's way smaller and more nimble than it looks. The turning circle is unreal, the visibility out is better than most and its shockingly easy to drive in town. It's just just a damn fine all rounder. Fun tidbit of info on the center differential. The torque bias can go from 29:71 front to rear to 53:47 front to rear depending on road conditions and traction needs (nominal is 40:60 Front to rear as you said). So long as the front axle never needs more than 53% of the torque or the rear more than 71% then you have forward motion. If the surface demands torque outside of that range, lock the center and boom. 100:0. The front can can 100% or the rear can get 100% and anything in between.

    The GX is a much better way to go with the V8 instead of the anemic V6...full time 4WD is another great feature that is missing in the 4Runner for the most part except for the overpriced higher trim level, should be available in all trim levels for what they charge for that 4Runner sticker....the Lexus has plenty of luxury features to make you feel luxurious, but not so much that you wouldn't want to drive it to the ski resort in comfort and power.

    One thing to note about KDSS is it locks out above 11mph and the sway bars are always "engaged" regardless of conditions. This can make the ride a bit rougher when you're doing dirt trails and such as it reduces suspension travel. This is especially pronounced if you're using a stiffer and heavier tire like an all-terrain.
    Also, fun KDSS facts. It gives you an extra 1.5" (approximately) of travel both up and down (3" total) compared to a non-KDSS Prado equivalent. So it's a great way to get extra articulation from the factory with the added bonus of on road stability.

    • @ianjohnson4788

      You can install a switch to disengage the KDSS at higher speeds. Best of both worlds!

    • @ronaldrrootiii6040
      @ronaldrrootiii6040 Год назад +1

      Funny about all this Land Rover came out with the same traction control system and the ace system to make the sway bar gets stiffer when entering corners and in low range super loose for crazy articulation totally Factory. You can watch the old Discovery 2 videos on the streets course doing a slalom with high-speed camera pointed directly at them also testing the Mercedes and the BMW and the Land Rover had the least lean because the ace system would stiffen it up before it started to lean what off-road crazy articulation from solid axles with Ace system letting the wheels go way up in the fenders and not to mention the traction control system that is ABS just like the a track on the Toyotas that still doesn't even work as good as an old Land Rover. If only Land Rover had made things as reliable as Toyota. I always get a kick out of watching so-called newer technology on stuff that was literally 23 years ago and still working on Rovers like mine once you work out some of the Kinks like a better cooling system and more accessible ignition coils but that's easy. The new Land Rovers are ridiculous they're very good off-road but I wouldn't trust one at all. I think the Grenadier is going to be awesome. They're really testing them here in America. In all reality the Jeep Rubicon Wrangler is the most capable front and rear lockers front and rear solid axles front and rear sway bar disconnects. But sometimes people want something that doesn't look like a Jeep LOL I feel the same way. Recently watched on tfl they tested this Lexus and a Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover traction control system worked way better on the spin test from every wheel put up on rollers. It's like the Toyota traction control system just doesn't grab hard enough right away the way even the old Landover kind of and it makes no sense cuz it's not technical as soon as it detects uneven will spend just grab the brake hard but Toyota doesn't they go gentle slowly ease into it and that sucks because it's bad enough you have any delay compared to a locker when getting stuck or not could mean the difference of that one or two seconds of momentum loss but at least make your traction control system more aggressive like Land Rover and it's not hard to do just grab the spinning wheel brake harder the first time

    The only downside to the hydraulic suspension is the cost of repair when you have issues out of warranty. People generally buy Lexus to keep long-term, so this is something to consider if someone wants to buy used or buy new to keep long term.

Unless you guys got enough soil where aerial seeding is possible, manually planting would suck, especially if what I've heard about american planting wages is true. I plant on the canadian shield where there isn't enough soil, so everyone has to be planted by hand, imagine charging up those hill 10 hours a day with a 50lb pack.

    My biggest issues with my 2022 is that the seats are ventilated, but not actively cooled as they should be at this price point. They become useless extremely quickly on a hot and humid day. The seats are also adequate for shorter trips, but become very uncomfortable on longer trips unlike the premium seats that many vehicles at this price point come with. What you do gain though is peace of mind knowing that this thing is going to be pretty darn reliable for a long time. I will probably replace my seats with a set of Scheel Mann seats in a year or so since I do a lot of long driving.

    • @pireina1

    Looking for opinions on whether to go 2023 TRD Pro 4Runner at msrp or a 2022 or 2023 GX as a family car that will be our road trip warrior and see off road action maybe 20 times per year. Pros for 4Runner to me is mostly the cost, color and that it comes fully optioned pretty much due to being the top trim. Pros of the GX are the mostly the V8 sound and ride comfort. If I could get the off road package on a lower trim GX I think that would be the sweet spot but the fact that it needs to be on the luruxy trim, making it 15+ thousand more than the TRD Pro gives me pause. Thanks!

      If I was in the market my top two choices would be the 4Runner TRD Off Road or GX. I don't think the price premium for the TRD Pro is justified. Speaking of premium, the Premium fuel requirement on the GX is a substantial ongoing expense. I will never understand how the Tundra and Sequoia offered a 310 hp 4.6 V8 that ran on Regular but the 301 hp 4.6 in the GX requires Premium.

    Hold on here.... The part time 4 wheel drive does have a center differential!!! This is why there is a selectable center differential lock button. Our 2001 4 Runner which we purchased new and now has 246,000 miles is an SR5 and this has been a perk in Colorado. My wife was able to use 4 WD for long periods of time without any binding for the snow and ice. My 2006 Ram is what you are describing, a locked/no-differential, basic 4 wheel drive from the cave man days. Please correct your statement on this. It is incredibly off-putting to many people for your misstatement to stand. Thank you!

    Just ordered a new 2023 GX Black Line today from a local dealer. Got a bit tired of all these redesign talk and wanted something proven and capable. The 62K price tag is at least 10K cheaper than a Sequoia Limited Off-road and that’s more than enough to cover all the extra gas cost for the next 20 years
