  • Driving the 2023 Lexus GX460 from Buffalo, NY to Boston, MA is not a cross country road trip, but it is 6-7 hours. That's about the maximum time most people will spend behind the wheel at a time so let's see how it feels during and after.

    I'm so sorry your first Tim Hortons coffee is now instead of 15+ years ago when they actually made real coffee with real in-house baked goods. I'd describe Timmies coffee today as burnt water but even that's being generous.

    Ok, important stuff first. If you're judging coffee 200 miles in, you're out of order. All coffee sucks 200 miles in. Influenced in part by your initial ownership video, we pulled the trigger on a GX for my wife. She's five-weeks and just over 1,100 miles into the experience. She's ecstatic, and I love it too. Ride quality is too good to be true, the lack of noise is amazing, and the driving experience is remarkably pleasant. Fortunately no drivetrain vibes on ours, and I hope the same for yours. P.S. I did think I'd miss the Mark Levinson, but the standard audio rig is perfectly sufficient.

    Ahh yes, like me you love the GX 460 so much that even the track pad makes sense. I love the cruise control stalk. And I like that you can double-tap the touch pad to make selections. Talk about some relaxed cruising, set the speed on 65-75 and just melt away in comfort! And yes everyone screams about the fuel economy of the GX but the newer turbo engines aren't great. A bit better, but still not great and with added complexity. To be sure the GX550 will be a good vehicle but for 2023, I'll take the proven 460.

The only really good thing on the menu are the Iced Capps, and some of the specialty donuts. No one in Canada goes over to Tim's for really good coffee. Only issue I have had is my tire pressure sensor appeared on my dash, all 4 of my tires had 32 PSI... come to find out... the spare tire was low on air... not a bad sensor... I agree with you about the 4Runner. I had a 17 TRD PRO. It was great around town, amazing off-road, and intolerable on long highway trips. Seats were uncomfortable and it was underpowered. Now I have a 23 Nori Green GX460 Blackline Edition. I also have a 19 Tundra TRD PRO and mostly use that for long highway trips and it is great for that. I look forward to trying some long road trips in the GX but I doubt I will like it as much as the Tundra because the Tundra has more power, space, and easier to keep it straight on the highway without corrections. BTW, put some BFG KO2s on your GX.

    • @username8644
      @username8644 7 месяцев назад

      It's definitely under powered, but for the entire eastern United states it's perfectly fine since the highway speeds are so much slower and there aren't consistently large mountain passes to go over. In the western US, yes it struggles a bit to drive up some big mountain passes at 70mph+, and the off-road suspension makes the handling a little bit scary when you are going downhill fast on the pass and there is only a single lane with no shoulder (as is often the case in those places due to roadwork). Other than that it's perfectly fine. Setting the cruise control fixes a lot of the power issues since it'll modulate the throttle for you, the power is there it's just hard to get the right gear since it's an automatic and it won't like to downshift when needed. The seats are perfectly fine though, the 4runner is a comfortable vehicle.
      Edit: I'm speaking for the TRD pro as well. To call it intolerable on road trips is just really misleading and false. I've done 2000 mile road trips with it, with the vehicle fully loaded, and it's always been perfectly fine and a comfortable vehicle. Road noise is pretty solid as well, which is really what matters.

Drove it about 60,000 miles and only had one recurring issue: it totally guzzled brake rotors. The dealer admitted the rotors were not really designed for the car - strange. As for fuel consumption I never really got more than 18 mpg from it despite where and how I drov it - and then it was a Euro spec 3.0 diesel with 190 hp. 19:57 Syracuse resident here - those rest stops are highly controversial. When they were first updated last year, they were very small compared to the Adirondack cabin-style structure before. They expanded them after getting a ton of complaints. Also - who the heck decided that Chick-fil-A was a good rest stop restaurant? They're closed on Sundays!

    That feeling you're getting in the brakes, where you're not touching the brakes for a while, I bet the pads just move away from the rotor enough that you got some play before they touch the rotor. Probably for fuel economy to reduce as much drag as possible. I bet Lexus as the triangle shaped wires that push the pads away from the rotor.

    I own 2017 GX and this is the ultimate cruiser. I also own a Telsa Y Performance, and 93 300ZX TT, and GX wins on road trips. I feel GX550 is a downgrade. I'd rather own LS430 made in the same era from GX460 compared to new LS with V6TT, this is how I feel about 460 v 550. Newer Lexus feels like just another Toyota. Also being an owener of a TT car, higher mileage newer toyota TT engines will need work after 100k miles and I hear some need engine removal like new Tundras
