We have a 2015 GX premium. Love, love, love the car. Especially the steering wheel, and gear knob. Was thinking of upgrading to a 2020 just for all the safety features our GX doesn’t have. Com on, even our 2012 RX had auto high beams.and it sucked cheaper Lexus cars starting in 2016 had more safety features than a more expensive car such as the GX. How they’re done away and changed things in 2020 will probably be a no for us. The auto fold mirrors, are huge for our family’s tight garage. Even wished they had auto fold like other cheaper Lexus (s) do. Don’t like the black painted trim on the inside, makes the car look cheaper, and the black leather accent on tan leather. Like the tan accent leather and brown carpet better in current 2015 GX. Also, why did they take away the door trim? How it’s just a long panel with no design breakup.
I bailed on Infiniti for a 2014 GX with 60k on the odo. Yeah the tech is a step down but I'm falling in love with it's "classic" styling interior and tech isn't as bad as I thought it would be. So far I love it and don't have any regrets. Sure I'd like my 360 camera back but I have peace of mind that Lexus brand and this engine will hold up forever and it's overall value rather than Infiniti/Nissan.
Why do Lexus dealerships refuse to let the consumer add on the Off-road package To GX460’s that came from the factory only with Luxury package? So the only way to get both is to custom order a Luxury Package and Select Odd-road package at the same time?
...and it still has the terrible swing open tailgate. Would love a split land cruiser tailgate. Biggest deal breaker in my book. Well maybe not, I own one. :)

I’m buying a 2021 GX premium, and the sales literature the dealer shared with me says that starting in October 2020 production the premium has the power folding mirrors with the premium plus package.
As a former Lexus salesperson, I'm surprised you got this wrong, but... The power-folding mirrors actually come standard if you get the sport package... on the premium. I have them on mine, and it is not a premium plus.

It's only for their low selling products like the GX and LX where they don't focus. Thats just how Toyota works. They haven't redesigned the 4-Runner, Tundra or Tacoma. So for Lexus, they focus more on the higher selling models like the RX, NX, ES, and IS which are near the top for sales in their categories.

I just bought a 2020 base with navi, pedestrian detection , heat / cooler seats , I got a good deal , i was focus on a new ford explorer but the price was better on the Lexus gx , I'm happy with my white & red interior dinosaur .
Lexus needs to trim up the bodywork on the GX460, especially the low front and rear bumpers and running boards. The Lexus is so capable, but the bodywork really hampers where it can go. A split tailgate like the LC200 or LX570 would be awesome, or move the spare tire to the rear gate door.

Used GX's are hard to come by right now and prices are going up. Hidden gem for overlanders. 10 year old models with around 130,000+ miles go for $15k-$18k and are just considered broken in. Plenty of life in them. Even cheaper than equivalent 4 runners (year and mileage). Beauty of them is they're fully capable off-road and most if not all have just been mall crawlers.
2019 luxury model seems to be the best version of the GX. Swap out the headlights and grill for the 2020 version and instal a grom CarPlay head unit and you have a beast. The 2020/21 edits are cheap.
My Venza Limited has the power folding mirrors. Would hate to give those up. That said, if I get a used GX 460, I would go for the 2020 model without the heated steering wheel. God, my Venza has the heated steering wheel, power folding mirrors, panoramic sunroof, digital mirror which lets me see all 8 lanes on the expressway and gets over 40 mpg in any mode. 50 mpg in economy mode. also, e-AWD. This video makes me rethink getting the GX.
They also stripped passenger side mirror auto-dimming feature on a '21 model. Got a luxury MY21 GX only to find out a few days later driving at night that pax side mirror does not dim! Talked to dealer - they had no clue - advertised it as "auto-dimming mirrorS" and nothing says "driver side only" on the sticker as well. Only when you look in the manual you'll find it there! Great con-job Lexus! Dual auto-dimming mirrors are standard on every Lexus SUV except UX and now a $70k GX!
My 2010 Premium has a heated steering wheel, power folding mirrors, parking assist and I added Crawl Control and MTS for like $400. Like that they are still making them, means tons of parts to keep this beast going for another decade.
Uh... the deal breaking feature that is still - astonishingly lacking in the GX is the lack of Android Auto/Crapple Carplay. That a luxury vehicle in 2021 would be sold without that feature is inexcusable.

I own a 2020 Luxury GX. WE don't buy this truck for glitz/glam. Audi Q7 owners do that when they pay exactly what we did for a max equipped rolling vitamin pill with no spare tire. Didn't know that? Right - the Q7 has no spare tire. Try that on when you're on your way to the airport to catch a flight and blow a sidewall.

Dear Lexus, please get rid of the ridiculous rear door on the GX and make it an actual functional clamshell hatch like the LX and Land Cruiser. That door makes me SMH every time I look at it. The design of the cylinder that props it open was essentially stolen from a screen door.
Things which I really want to be changed in Lexus GX is the cruise control system. it is the worst cruise control system I have seen in 2020. Lexus has to change the algorithm for cruise control system to the latest market standards. And the second one is the boot space. The Less boot space in Lexus GX makes it not a good option for a long road trip.
im actually happy to see the silver wheels come back to the gx. during the transition from 2019 to 2020 i had so many of my older clients hate on the gray wheels. they said it made it too truck like...go figure lol I even have to switch a set a of wheels from a remaining 2019 gx to the 2020 for one of my clients because they hated them that much.
Update the rear exterior design, interior badly needs an update, needs more new tech on the infotainment. Reliability is never an issue for this company so why not improve the things they're bad at and it would destroy the german made luxury cars tbh.

I feel like 19" wheels are a downgrade. I just swapped the 19" wheels on my 2010 RX to 18" wheels with larger volume tires to keep the same diameter and the ride quality is noticeably improved regarding road noise and hitting bumps in the road. On an offroad capable SUV like a GX I think smaller wheels and larger tires are even more important.

Do NOT buy the “tesla style” screen for ANY car. Im in a million car groups all over, they fail ALL the time. Also Lexus now has mobile displays. In this particular example they were showing the new 2021 IS. I have three photos of it if you wish to cover it in another video. Just message me. And I told the product specialist, who was very happy to talk to me because I love Lexus, that they need to add Apple CarPlay to the GX and she said she agreed and a lot of people were complaining. We’re pretty confident for 2022, fingers crossed. And with that, it should have the latest infotainment system. And as soon as it does, I’m buying one with the premium plus because I want the navigation and Mark levinson.

I ask bkz the current Lexus summer Golden Opportunity sale is offering $4000 Lexus Cash until end of the month on 2020 GX’s…a good sound system is important to me (3-3.5+ hour daily commute and family trips) and it would really help me decide whether the base system is good enough or if it is worth passing on the currents deals and waiting for the 2021 GX Premium Plus next month ... Hard to pass on the cash but I plan to keep the vehicle for a very long time and have heard some disappointing comments on the base stereo…the cost to upgrade the stereo and the few other 2021 improvements (Alexa, etc) might possibly be worth it. Also, in different post reply yesterday you mentioned the seat cushion length might be an issue for me on the GX (6’4”)…thanks…I’ll follow up on that. If ends up it is not a problem…per question yesterday…would you then still choose a new 2020/2021 GX Premium over a used 2016-ish LX? If so, is it bkz the GX would be new and while different…you find the GX basically comparable to the LX/Land Cruiser in terms of build quality (as dependable, durable and long lasting) as the LX and Land Cruiser? My mom called me to let me know that she has an appt at her local Lexus dealer to to replace the fuel pump on her ‘15 GX 460 under recall. So glad that it didn’t fail her on any of her pre COVID trans region treks! Kudos to Lexus/ Toyota for taking care of their customers. I pray that my ownership experience with my new 2020 Taco is trouble free.
Great channel, Kirk! I enjoyed watching the reviews when you worked @ Lexus. One thing that always annoyed me with luxury brands that produce mainstream vehicles (i.e. Lexus, Infiniti, Acura) is their pricing/package structure. I could get an Avalon with Toyota's full safety suite but yet have to upgrade to some costly Premium Plus or Luxury package with Lexus. It's like BMW, if I buy a X-drive 4-series Gran Coupe, the air bags are an extra $3,000. Obviously, this is still a contentious area for me; despite that, I still snagged a Lexus.
GX blinks twice for help for a new technology and color. Wow I'm so surprised to see the outdated display on a Lexus. I hope with the rumors of power trains changes that they redesign this too for 2022 models.

My 00 lx470 still runs like a champ. 250k odo. I would guess it could at least go another 200k miles with less issues than any Infiniti

My brand new 2020 GX 460 creaks like an old clanker. Dealer states that this very laud creak is a normal noise for Lexus. Fake luxury.

I feel like 19" wheels are a downgrade. I just swapped the 19" wheels on my 2010 RX to 18" wheels with larger volume tires to keep the same diameter and the ride quality is noticeably improved regarding road noise and hitting bumps in the road. On an offroad capable SUV like a GX I think smaller wheels and larger tires are even more important.

Door won't be fixed until redesign..if they redesign. Prado is well ahead of the gx and has carplay and Android auto iirc

My dealership was giving more incentives to GX than RX last November. But since there’s no Apple CarPlay I picked the RX and this is definitely a deal breaker.

Do NOT buy the “tesla style” screen for ANY car. Im in a million car groups all over, they fail ALL the time. Also Lexus now has mobile displays. In this particular example they were showing the new 2021 IS. I have three photos of it if you wish to cover it in another video. Just message me.
And I told the product specialist, who was very happy to talk to me because I love Lexus, that they need to add Apple CarPlay to the GX and she said she agreed and a lot of people were complaining. We’re pretty confident for 2022, fingers crossed. And with that, it should have the latest infotainment system. And as soon as it does, I’m buying one with the premium plus because I want the navigation and Mark levinson.

In trying to decide between the Premium and Premium Plus options…is the ML stereo markedly better than the standard GX stereo? I ask bkz the current Lexus summer Golden Opportunity sale is offering $4000 Lexus Cash until end of the month on 2020 GX’s…a good sound system is important to me (3-3.5+ hour daily commute and family trips) and it would really help me decide whether the base system is good enough or if it is worth passing on the currents deals and waiting for the 2021 GX Premium Plus next month ... Hard to pass on the cash but I plan to keep the vehicle for a very long time and have heard some disappointing comments on the base stereo…the cost to upgrade the stereo and the few other 2021 improvements (Alexa, etc) might possibly be worth it.
Also, in different post reply yesterday you mentioned the seat cushion length might be an issue for me on the GX (6’4”)…thanks…I’ll follow up on that. If ends up it is not a problem…per question yesterday…would you then still choose a new 2020/2021 GX Premium over a used 2016-ish LX? If so, is it bkz the GX would be new and while different…you find the GX basically comparable to the LX/Land Cruiser in terms of build quality (as dependable, durable and long lasting) as the LX and Land Cruiser? ( I understand the GX, LX and Land Cruiser are all built in same plant in Japan).
Lastly…is the practical leg room about the same between the GX and LX/Land Cruiser?

I'd rather have a "dinosaur" that works and will always work than something new and shiny that will explode in 3 years. I also LOVE the boxy look. I don't like that emissions standards and wind tunnel tests have made all cars look the same. They look like sperm. LOL.
My mom called me to let me know that she has an appt at her local Lexus dealer to to replace the fuel pump on her ‘15 GX 460 under recall. So glad that it didn’t fail her on any of her pre COVID trans region treks! Kudos to Lexus/ Toyota for taking care of their customers. I pray that my ownership experience with my new 2020 Taco is trouble free.

One thing that always annoyed me with luxury brands that produce mainstream vehicles (i.e. Lexus, Infiniti, Acura) is their pricing/package structure. I could get an Avalon with Toyota's full safety suite but yet have to upgrade to some costly Premium Plus or Luxury package with Lexus. It's like BMW, if I buy a X-drive 4-series Gran Coupe, the air bags are an extra $3,000.
Obviously, this is still a contentious area for me; despite that, I still snagged a Lexus.

GX blinks twice for help for a new technology and color. Wow I'm so surprised to see the outdated display on a Lexus. I hope with the rumors of power trains changes that they redesign this too for 2022 models.
