Relax bro its not that deep. I watched the whole thing and realized if you are just going to look at the CR and decide the why make a video in the first place. We all know the b58 is reliable and new lexus are questionable. Yet based on the CR Lexus is more reliable still.
The comments show people did not listen to the video: - He did not say BMWs are more reliable than Lexus. Only that Lexus is now having issues because they are forced to use smaller, turbo charged engines. BMW went through this process and have better engines and engine support systems now. - Yes, there are still recalls on BMWs. Many of the recalls people are pointing to are from BMWs from the same years and engines that are described as being very unreliable in the video. Saying the a water pump recall on a N55 platform disproves this video when he literally points out how bad the plastic water pumps on BMWs were shows you were too busy writing comments to listen. - He in no way is telling you to buy a BMW over a Lexus. If you still want a Lexus, by all means get one. He is just pointing out that you should be cautious about the Lexus you are purchasing and do your homework. Just like you should be very cautious before buying a used BMW. Don't assume that just because Lexus has great reliability means these new turbo charged engines will be without any issues.
He says that 'in 2024 Lexus reliability and BMW reliability are much closer' but the figures show you are more than 38% more likely to have a failure with a BMW than with a Lexus He says of BMW 'clearly they're much better than the average' quoting figures which indicate they are actually only 1% better. For reference Lexus are 28.5% better than average.
@@Ilikepie18855 It's not so much what they're telling you to buy, but the regulations they make the car manufacturers follow, thus making over engineered junk.
I own a MK5 Supra which is essentially a BMW inside but I've had almost zero issues with the car despite tracking it 2-3 times a year whilst putting on 50k miles on it. I do frequent oil/coolant changes. The B58 engine is an absolute gem and it handles like a dream.
You failed to mention the awful sensor, electronics and general electrical problems in BMWs and most German cars have. There's a reason wht they depreciate a lot and their value crayers when the waaranties expire. Best route if you like Beemers is to lease and always remain under warranty
Honestly speaking I’ve found Lexus depreciates about the same as a bmw does, at least here anyway. A 2 year old bmw 5 series with 30kmiles goes from 49k to about 26-28k whereas the Lexus ES goes from about 46k to about 20-23k with the same time and mileage roughly speaking.
@@arnarmagnusson8201 Why would you go around lying about something that is so easily disproven? Are you illiterate or intentionally spreading disinformation?
In Europe, BMW is considered as one of the most reliable cars, just buy diesel. Never heard from anybody, mechanics or drivers that they ever had electrical issues. French and Italian cars have electric issues.
I had a Honda pilot, I recently switched up to a BMW X5 with the V8. I do allot of preventative maintenance and I feel it’s worth it. Me and my family really enjoy it.
In 2018 my wife went to dealer to purchase a certified 2016 BMW X3 and after few hours she decided to buy 2015 Lexus NX200t and she is happy with her Lexus. No problems at all!
Haha, same, had a bmw x3 and was just boring and uncomfortable to drive, then got wife the Lexus nx200t back in 2016. She’s still happy with it even over 210k km problem free, still rocking the original brake rotors….
Although BMW has come a long way in terms of reliability.. Lexus still tops it. I have a Lexus with over 201,876 miles all I’ve done is regular maintenance and front shocks. My wife’s BMW 330 has had various seal leaks and a few electronic problems with regular maintenance. The biggest thing is she only has 82k on the odometer..
This is kind of what he says in the last 20 seconds of the video. Average failures 186 per 100,000 with BMW 184 and Lexus 133. So BMW are above average (though not 'clearly they're much better than the average' as he says) and are a long way behind Lexus. Yep, I was suckered in by the video title.
And you’ll see this change as Toyota made a disaster of the forces induction engines along with BMW going electric 😂 BMW won’t have engines in 15 years … but Toyota and the whale eating board can’t see the writing on the wall. So yea BMW will eventually win 🤭
I had a Lexus GS and I kept up with the schedule maintenance and the engine still had problems. I recently purchased a BMW and I love it. I loved my Lexus as well. At the end of the day if there is a car that you like and you can get it; go for it. All cars are going to need repairs so get what you like and enjoy life.

Reliability isn't magic, it's about experience and dedication- there is absolutely no way Toyota introduces an entirely new drivetrain and it's more-reliable than one that BMW et al. have been refining for a decade. The plain fact is that these drivetrains are new- Toyota/Lexus is going to have reliability problems until they do some re-engineering. I really don't understand why people think that reliability (or quality) is something inherent to Japanese people- I'm married to one, they are not special, i promise you.
I got 2011 X5 35D best car ever! Already at 170k miles, not a single breakdown. 2 years ago purchased another car 540xi and loving this car too. Absolutely amazing cars!
I've been through 8 BMWs with minimal or no problems. They have been more reliable than many other brands I have owned. I laugh at how Lexus owners push the notion that repairing a Lexus at the dealer cost a fraction of what BMW. Having taken Lexus to the dealer, they have been on par (and in some cases more expensive) than my Bimmers. The main benefit Lexus had was relatively low output NA engines and all the carryover tech and low cost parts sourced from Toyota.
Lol what? Some people like to get a new car every couple of years, or just simply lease them, it doesn’t mean they all broke down lmao… If he’s chosen the same Brand 8 times then I guess that’s a testament to it’s reliability. Try using that thing in your head before you comment next time 😂
I have never driven a Lexus before, but people said it’s soft, everything is soft. The chairs are soaking you in when you sit in there…and now both Toyota and Lexus are having more problems than before.

I have a 235i with N55 engine, i like the car its so fun to drive. The charge pipe and valve cover are plastic but can be replaced for metal parts if they break. Electric waterpump will break over time but it can cool the engine after the contact is turned off thats not bad for some users. But with a mechanic pump if you drive the last miles at normal speed there is no need for electric pumps.

BMWs + 10k oil changes, never worked together never will. That’s why most issues exist with them. Valve stem seals, leaking oil, eating through piston rings, blue smoke is all due to oil. My BMW is at 200k now and doesn’t have any of the common issues in 20 years and had since the beginning.
All our Lexus are 15 000km oil change intervals, our Volvo and Benz are 20 000 km intervals. The Volvo broke like shit…. Hmm…. The engine is fine but everything around it breaks. Lexus with 210k km and zero problem.

@@ThatBMWGuy-i3g I used to own a BMW. It drove very nice, but maintenance was shit. I don't hate them, I just don't trust their cars. I could probably get one in the future, but not likely.
Reliable cars are those that have old but proven technology. Here, a great example is Toyota/Lexus or Nissan, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai etc. You can't expect advanced cars like BMW or Audi to be just as reliable. You can't expect it from anyone anyway cars like Ferrari or Porsche etc. Some are aimed at people who pay attention to costs, and others at people who pay attention to above-average engine parameters and performance in corners. The target group of customers is different. Both groups are great but for different cleints. That's simple.
Interesting perspective, and all true. We'll see how the Toyota/Lexus turbo engines hold up. The Tundra issue wasn't reliability, it was manufacturing. As for BMW, their biggest problem now is still not figuring out correct location for the gas fill. Germany is a LHD country. Gas fill should be on the left. I hate having to walk around the car every time... not my idea of 'luxury'.
@@JunYamog : Toyotas Hybrid is so good, that BMW begged to get the obsolete generation hybrid engine from Toyota to put into their “newest” generations- yeah that’s true!
I’ve heard from someone with the naturally aspirated BMW having about 280K miles on it, manual 3, I think V6, and a friend with a 5 series manual, I think a V6 (late 90s), had about the same mileage before he bought a Tesla and sold the car. A person in my golf league has a 2005-2008ish I think V8 5 series, auto, over 180K miles. The late 90s BMW my buddy took to a lower cost BMW specialist business for maintenance and also did some things himself, the golf league guy knows cars a bit, and the other guy with the 3 knows cars to some degree. My uncle has had a fleet of BMWs building up for decades, he changes the oil on the cars and does some self maintenance. Never heard about major problems. I hear others with these cars though and a lot of complaints. Generally a Toyota or Honda is a good route if you don’t want to fuss with cars. I had a Pilot with 300K miles on it, ran exceptionally well, mostly just computer recommended oil change intervals.
It's called a brand new platform. The b58 and s58 are bulletproof engines from bmw. They are so good toyato and range rover bought them for their cars.
If you service your BMW regularly then no major issue. I have 2, E34 and F11 with N47 .. 245k km on the clock, chain done properly and runs very well. Keeping your car fresh is vital
just because BMW fixed engine, drive train, water pump, chain issues etc. doesn't make it reliable. It still has lots of electrical issues. b58 drive train may be bullet proof but the cars aren't fault free elsewhere. BMWs have been a lot MORE reliable nowadays, at least no drivetrain issues, but still not comparable to lexus
Bro if the drivetrain is reliable, the car is reliable. Nobody cares about random small problems. All anyone really cares about is can I drive the car?
Got rid of my 2023 RX350 Luxury AWD with ~10k miles on it three weeks ago for a 2025 x50e - couldn't be happier and hated (underscore) the Lexus in so many ways. Wind noise from front end that dealer could never replicate, poor paint quality on hood, so-so triple beam headlights, interior door handles that required a lesson for any passengers that had never ridden in it, layers upon layers of menus in HMI, poor fuel economy, cheap plastics in cabin, and drove like a marshmallow on 21" rims...

I had the 2002 E39 540i that I drove till it hit 308k miles then moved on to the E60, a 2010 535i that I kept till 316k. Then I bought a 2017 435i and I drove that for 300k before moving on to a 2020 M550i. In all of these cars, I didn’t have any major problems other than window regulators on the E39, the water pump on the E60 and the turbocharger actuator on my 440i. The part was like $300.
My wife drove a BMW for over 15 years with hardly any problems, the most reliable car she has driven. And after all these years the car still feels solid, like new. We have driven almost all brands of Japanese cars and sure they are great in the first 3 to 5 years, then it starts loosing the feel, steering, etc. Just from our experience.
Yes and No. When the company gets big and greedy, they cut costs to maximize profits like Honda and nissan did. Honda and nissan have been f*cking up. High price with low quality. Customers will soon catch on. Lexus has been slacking too.
My gf 2015 lexus is300 interior leathers are fake and cheap. It got ripped after 8 years at 120k miles. Very common problems. Not sure about the quality of leathers with other models. I have 2018 es350 at 92k miles. We will see.
When it comes to BMWs, 1999 to 2006 referred to as the E46 and E39 are the best if maintained. They exceed the reliability of my LEXUS. None of my three BMWs and one of them has 268,000 miles on it. This summer I took it on a 4,000 milf road trip without a second thought. No loss of oil or coolant or anything.
Family had a 2001 bmw 320d new back then, by 2006 when the warranty expired suddenly half the car started breaking, engine, turbo, starter, center locking, AC, transmission. None stop repair. The most unreliable bmw we ever had. We had X3 and 5 series after, but none of them were as bad as the 2001 model
Plenty of issues with the E46 platform, especially if you go up to the M3. Oil pressure and trans issues possible in all, subframe issues with the M3 that are difficult to detect with any standard PPI. Really need to know what you're getting into buying one; may go without a hitch, may cost you up to half of what you paid for the car in repairs by the time you're done, all in how your luck comes out.
So buy a used Lexus. Anything they made with the 3.5 V6 and 6-speed transmissions was pretty bulletproof. The other thing is Toyota/Lexus stands behind their vehicles.
All these comments about how reliable their Lexus is. The new Lexus are not as reliable and BMW are becoming more reliable. Get with the times people. Toyota isn't what they use to be
Can't go wrong with hybrid lexus. The made in Japan one. German cars are filled with overcomplicated electronics, its obvious that more parts to break = more problems. That's how it is. New bmw 2.0 engines tend to fall apart after 90k miles, do you imagine a big lexus v6/v8 doing that?
People have been saying this every year though… “Toyota isn’t as reliable as it used to be” . Literally a decade ago, yet they still create reliable vehicles…
Somewhere in the middle. Consumer Reports loves them both for short term. Reading recent 10 year ownership reports and Lexus/Toyota was still first by a mile but BMW has worked it's way ahead of every single brand made outside of Japan. Take every source with a grain of salt but the report was Lexus/Toyota followed distantly by Acura/Honda followed distantly by Mazda and BMW.

The B58 is not only reliable but an amazing engine that outperforms lexus in everyway. Lexus interior's are outdated and their performance is at the bottom of the class.
The Germans know luxury. Lexus and Toyota are nice and yes reliable but their interiors do look outdated. Reliable = basic engineering and basic interiors 🤷♂️. In my Country Toyota and Lexus vehicles are ridiculously priced. Yes they are reliable but Im almost sure The basic tech and cheap materials used in their productions is not the cause the market value in my Country. They are reliable but still cheaply made🤷♂️
@DAMCARTER1 lexus is luxury. Alot higher quality than bmw. Bmw interiors are a joke. Horrible materials and they squeak so much. I've been in hundreds by now since I'm a bmw technician. I've been in practically every model. Compared to audi and mercedes it's incomparable. And audi is luxury and they are reliable. Definitely not cheap but they are truly reliable. Mercedes I don't really know but my friends with mercs had no problems with them. Germans know bmw is a bad car brand. They have many sayings and make fun of it. Many Lexus owner who switch to bmw is due to how dull Lexus are to drive. If reliability is the only benchmark Germans have no chance of sale, but they outsell Lexus globally. Most people who own these cars don’t own them 10 plus years. They want to feel that thrill of performance and Germans know that, those are choices they have made. 3 series has lost some of its thrill because they went more close to nice ride and reliability got CR badge but lost enthusiasts as well. My buddy has 07 3 series close to 200k miles water pump replaced after 100k miles basis maintenance. I owned 3 series till 100k miles with no issues. Never any issues with many leased bmws and Audis. When you push for performance there are parts need to be replaced like in race cars you drive like golf cart nothing needs to replaced more often.
.....Sad you Never mention how Sooooo very many who get a Repair burdened and LOSS configured in depreciation owners of beemers SWITCH BACK to LEXUS or simply remain dumb by Leasing and dumping beemers every 2 years.just like cedes owners.
Majority of luxury cars are leased very few people buy them new, there is huge market of used buyers also, it is choice there is no dumbness on both choices, some see value buying new some old whatever based on their financial condition and other priorities in life. If one choose a car to push it to limits then it comes with constant repairs and more maintenance it is conscious choice by car maker and buyer both, Lexus is great value for many but not others.
Have a 2019 540i. Great car, beautiful and yes, reliable. My friend has a newer Tundra TRD package with the V8, and he won't take it offroad for a trip because he knows how bad those engines are right now.
I find the BMW issues interesting. I am on my fourth BMW, I typically drive them about 10 years with normal factory specified maintenance. A good friend is still driving my 1st BMW E30 with 325,000 miles and loves the car. Actually it’s still in such nice shape, I keep asking him to sell it back to me.
A lot of other manufacturers use BMW engines - Toyota (Supra), Morgan, Range Rover, Ineos (jeep aka Land Rover clones), Rolls Royce, Land Rover. The BMW straight 6 (B58) are very reliable. If you want to tune them, they can put out up to 1000 bhp too.
Nothing wrong at all with BMW, been driving few models for a while now, fit , finish and drive makes a big difference compare to Lexus, it's the ultimate driving machine after all that a regular people can still afford. Keep up the good work and bringing all honest reviews.
exactly, and most of these people spewing crap about BMW reliability have never owned one.. I own 4 and have zero problems. Any vehicle will become "unreliable" if you don't keep up with the required maintenance at the required intervals.
You can thank unrealistic government emissions targets for forcing Lexus to go to smaller turbocharged engines. I understand that Lexus has taken some hits recently but I’m sure that they’ll get it right soon. Furthermore the problem with BMW’s is that their parts are so expensive as is their service. I currently own two Lexus vehicles and they’re both fantastic, I would recommend buying a used Lexus car with the older engines and keep it for a number of years then Lexus will have it right.
Love the videos. However, can you do a video with a sock puppet on your left hand that seems to be taking up a lot of screentime. A sock puppet only video of vehicle reviews would be awesome.
BMW has vastly improved reliability. Maybe even more importantly is that they have better rust protection than most. They may cost more to maintain but nothing is more expensive than fixing rust.
The sweet spot for Lexus owners is getting the maintenance bill at the shop and nodding to their fellow Lexus owner in satisfaction at checkout. No thanks. The sweet spot for me starts when I walk into my garage and it only gets better from there after I start it up knowing I have a 4-year 50k mile warranty.
It really comes down to doing research before by a European vehicle. I have a Mercedes W212, not one major problem, 130,000 miles, built like a tank, and it was built completely in Europe (my preference).
When you quote Consumer Reports as a reliable source, I lose all interest. They're a pay to play just like JD "awards" you keep hearing about on car advertising. It's all bull.

The plain fact is that these drivetrains are new- Toyota/Lexus is going to have reliability problems until they do some re-engineering.

@user-wi4ci2jo4u yeah sure look the new mers with that screen on the middle .Sorry that's not good interior. Bmw make much better interiors than before. So please stop. I see you hate bmw on every comment when someone said good thing for bmw. I hate that kind of people
@olympbarca3313 no. I hate people who over exaggerate how good bmws are. They aren't bad but they aren't good
My 2013 328i has been quite reliable tbh. I just wish the dealer would charge normal prices for maintenance.
Cheers
The only bmw engines that don’t have leaks are the electric ones haha
haha nice
I put almost 80k in my 430 2020, and no issues, only normal maintenance. Everything original from the dealership.
I have 1 Lexus and always keeping breaking down (the newer one 2023 and above) so I sold it and bought a Mercedes Benz over a Lexus
You can lie due to hatred but not in this level, everything is covered under Lexus warranty for 10 years and 100000 miles. 😂
What can you say about g01 engine?
Lexus suv dull? No shit sherlock. It's not a sports car. Their sports cars are great. Bmws oversteer like a piece of shit they are
Have a 2019 540i. Great car, beautiful and yes, reliable.
My friend has a newer Tundra TRD package with the V8, and he won't take it offroad for a trip because he knows how bad those engines are right now.
Thanks for sharing!
Still lexus (newer models) will outlast bmw (not taking about the recalls)
I don't buy luxury cars with the end goal of keeping them for 100 years
I find the BMW issues interesting. I am on my fourth BMW, I typically drive them about 10 years with normal factory specified maintenance. A good friend is still driving my 1st BMW E30 with 325,000 miles and loves the car. Actually it’s still in such nice shape, I keep asking him to sell it back to me.
Lexus all day everyday I’m looking to go from a gs300 to a rx350
Great move
What you don’t understand is that technology evolves. It improvises with each iteration. Somewhere down the line turbo engines will be reliable.
BMW vehicles don't depreciate like used mattresses for no reason.
Exactly, yet the a lot of bmw owners think they are the shit lol used be such a true brand
Great video 👍
Once you complicate it with a turbo… complications begin.
say that to the 2JZ,RB26 and 4G63, they are extraordinarily tunable and reliable
Ehh 4 year 50k? Doesnt seem worth it to me
It really comes down to doing research before by a European vehicle. I have a Mercedes W212, not one major problem, 130,000 miles, built like a tank, and it was built completely in Europe (my preference).
In Germany say they - “Bring Mich Werkstatt“BMW) which means “get me to the repair shop”
Cheers
When you quote Consumer Reports as a reliable source, I lose all interest. They're a pay to play just like JD "awards" you keep hearing about on car advertising. It's all bull.
That or they drive them for 10k miles and judge them to be amazing and reliable in only 10k miles lol
Where would be reliable sources to learn about the reliability of cars?
How much does it cost to maintain a 2022 BMW X5 vs Lexus LX600/annum?
