True story: We have a 2017 with 55,000 miles. Runs so smooth and I drive the crap out of it. Some off road and lots of snow driving during ski season. We took it recently to Yosemite National Park and on day three we stopped to help a 2020 Q7 that was pulled over with its hazards on. They had a flat and didn’t realize it and drove however many miles till the tire completely collapsed. I said “where is your spare?” They don’t come with one bc of Audi trying to pad mpg. Wtf?! The driver didn’t know he had a low tire bc the tire pressure monitor system said it was fine. He admitted that the electrical system was horrible and he had it in the shop 4-5 times for electrical hiccups since he they bought it. Too much technology! I drove him back to where services were and he could call Audi. Lol! Love our GX! Bullet proof, reliable and high resale value. Those who know, know.

Mr. Redline, you sound like a perfect candidate for a Kia Telluride. The telematics look so “new” and it even has a heads up display. It gets good gas mileage for its class and it has really nice graphics.
Since you value the technology above and beyond the actual reliability and capability of a truck, you should stick to 4 cylinder millennial wagons that will inevitably break down prematurely and lose half their value in the 1st 12 months.

You complain that it’s an“old” style with old technology , but one might say why change something that still looks good and sells well. Lexus are known for their highly reliable cars. Why change what works well? Changing things doesn’t make it better. Lexus have worked out all the kinks in this model to be a very reliable, luxurious and high quality vehicle.

I agree with you that this this dude nitpicks brands like Lexus. Meanwhile, he kisses up to the Genesis brand. The fact that he praises Hyundai/Genesis and Kia despite those vehicles’ notorious engine problems and recalls; Kia just trended on Google for 410k recalls again. This guy is undoubtedly paid by those brands to shit on other legitimate vehicles like Lexus and Acura. One of the worst car reviewers on RUclips.

I don't mind things being old or dated if they work and function better (and are more reliably). I have noticed that a lot (and A LOT) of the so called 'new' or 'updated' things are actually worse than the 'dated' things they replaced. A lot of the "updated' things are worse, or are harder to use, or don't look as good - as the older thing it replaced. If its not * REALLY * better, don't mess with something that looks good and still works fine.

The rise in the sale numbers of the GX from 2019 to 2020 is due partly to the 2020 refresh/redesign of the front spindle grill and the new sexier key fob. To me these redesigns look a lot better than before. That is why I am reluctant to buy any GX’s older than 2020. And I predict 2022 model will see another increase in sale numbers because of the redesign of the infotainment center with Apple play and android auto(finally!!).

What gets me with Lexus fans is that they push that agenda and biased mindset so much to the point of saying why fix it if it ain't broke? Well they are charging MORE money for the same shit from a decade ago. Like let's be real. They could've and should have at LEAST put apple car play and Android auto in the GX, the GS, etc. They could've at least fix the info tech in the GS and other models. You seem fixated on the words old and dated. The GX has a function, and appeals to a specific group of buyers. When I drive I need to pay attention so the infotainment system is minor, as is the size of the head units on the back of the front seats. This vehicle is a reliable tank, a SUV that you can depend on to get you to and fro, as is the case with so many in this class. So, for example, to turn the fan speed up or down a single notch, you have to wade through the touch screent. Terrible design / frustrating. Next, the SUV dives horribly when you brake hard. It's disconcerting everytime it happens, even though you are aware of it (a body on frame I suppose). Next, gas mileage is bad. Side swing back door isn't great. Fairly boring to drive and lumbering. No heated stearing wheel. Front end side profile is awkward lookding. Infotainment is lame. Other than that, it's a super vehicle and bullet proof. If you want an off-road capable SUV that you could keep 10-20 years with next to no issues likely appearing, this would do the trick.

I really wanted an LR4, but in the current market, a 2016 with 50k miles is the same price as a 2019 GX 460 with 30K miles. The GX is a Japanese built Land Rover with impeccable reliability and outstanding off road chops.
I completely agree that it doesn't really make a lot of sense to buy a new one, since for better or worse, the GX evolved at a Darwinian pace.
I have a 2019 and while I miss CarPlay, the Bluetooth Integration, at least with an iPhone, is pretty easy to live with. For instance, I can have Siri play music, text of make phone calls, navigate, and pretty much anything else that I would otherwise with CarPlay, without taking my hands off of the wheel. I can't see navigation output on the screen, but phone calls, podcasts, and music are there, with touch controls. There is a third party solution to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the display, hiding the backend bits in the console.
And as far as the rear door, it's a lot quicker and easier access than dealing with a hatch. What you give up in rain protection, you get back in convenience, speed of access, and having a portal for long objects.

I honestly was debating this vehicle but went with a tesla model y. The GX just simply wasn't worth the price for the old infotainment, lack of space, lack of feeling of a major upgrade (from a toyota highlander), etc. Plus the GX was significantly more expensive. Just wasn't worth it. Lexus needs to invest more money into updating their vehicles technology.

This car may not be for everyone, but this car is for a lot of people who want a truck with a little luxury, not too much. I looked at a lot of newer vehicles but all where 6 cylinder I was sold on the v8 in the Lexus mileage is no different than the 4 runner as for out dated I don’t use car play because I don’t like my phone connected to my car stereo I like to listen to music not talk so no big deal to me if you want to play you music use Blue tooth and you have basically the same car play I also like a body on frame instead of a unibody for better vision plus it feels like your driving a much heavier vehicle another reason over the bmw or Land Rover products with I drove for 15 plus years is I can tell you is the Lexus will never see the service center for a thing except oil services so as I say gas is cheaper than service bills at these previous owned euro vehicles I guarantee i will never spend 8,500 to service a Lexus or stop and spend that on fuel .
