6:10 As soon as the amp is turned on, it starts humming *irritatingly loud.*
The hum is in the key of G.
Knowingly or not, you start off with a loud G power-chord (Downtuned A) and it harmonises *perfectly* with the amplifier hum.
So, all of a sudden, the hum is not a problem at all. Brilliant! 😄
It's nice to get reminded how metal the JCM is. It's ground zero for metal tones and still sounds amazing today.
resington gotta crank to get the spank 😉
@@matttaylor1449
In my experience (witch is not a lot), the classic Marshall's like this one, for metal, sound better if not fully crancked.
I mean, you gotta get it loud (50% of master volume or higher), and to this kind of amp "loud" is almost deafening, but at full blast it kinda sound not so tight, kinda blurred if that makes any sense.
Also, it can sound pretty modern with a EQ thru the FX loop.
By the way, I hate the 900 for no reason at all.
Cheers.
resington i just hear the v30 sound...
Have you talked to Matt Heafy(Trivium) yet? I'm sure he would be up for a Coffee with Ola (Corona version, via online video chat). He's already got the setup for it so shouldn't be too much of a hassle to get him on!
That would be the best thing ever!
So happy to see this. My first valve amp was the 2205. I haven't played it in years but will be plugging it in today after watching this. Thanks!
Beautiful, very good gain and sound. You rule, Ola. 😃😘👍🏻
Ola thanks a lot for the shout out and making another video ! Two things farts and JCM 800's never get old great mix of guitars and Overdrive pedals you are the best thanks ! Keep up the great videos loved it with the TS-9 and Fortin pedals as well as the SD-1 cant go wrong with those. I put a TC mini spark in front of my TS-9 (at 9 o clock) for even more boost give it a try !
I love the old-school Keith Merrow riffing with the TS9
you should definitely do this again. Sorry i missed the live.. i would love for you to bring out some tough amps... "purple nightmare" and some "weaker amps" that need help with tube screamers/boosts. great job. This also helps us musicians out cuz you have all the stuff we wanna try , and we can listen first
I might get hate for this, but I didn't care much for this format. It's too long. I prefer the traditional edited format. There's just a lot of time spent in this video that doesn't consist of playing or anything. It's certainly not worth watching 50 minutes. It feels lazy.
Thanks for pulling out the 2205 Ola...just by itself it sounded beautiful! It was THE classic Marshall and state of the art back in the 1980s and intended for a Michael Schenker model, but it sounded SO good, they chose it as the flagship instead of the 2555 which became the Silver Jubilee. I never got the HM2 to work with any Marshall however, they were designed for the old Peavey amps...
21:00 my favourite merrow riff and one of my favourite guitarrist ❤️❤️❤️
The '89 2205 was my first good tube amp.
But, they changed in '87-'90.
No channel bleed, more gain, and meaner sounding!
I wanted so bad for him to play his strat specifically with this amp...
Yes...this Marshall you have to play with Strat....dont play "easy" instruments...cause I love to hear the fight tone for tone....think it will be a great thing when Ola do that
Yes, Ola, please do a non live rig of the week with the Strat for all of us who want to hear that Strat in a Marshall dirty neck single coil crying tone! Cheers! :)
@@ivaylovelkov525... Yes, I think Ola is a blues guy... but he not knows 😋
Duncan '59s are awesome, and that strat's bridge pickup attests to that.
Don't let "low output PAF" fool you into thinking any pickup can't be used for metal. You can always add more gain in a million different ways, but tone is more difficult to come by.
@@BoozyBeggar... I use Jay Bee Custom from Rockinger... Not only distortion. You are so right with the tone, it is important 😎 no comb sound, sweet tone... I build an own guitar to fix my sweet tone...
Such an amazing difference what an overdrive will make.
that first sound with the JCM pushed by the super overdrive was fucking awesome. Exactly the right amount of gain where its saturated JUST enough but still a unique tone because its not drenched in gain. perfect death metal tone to me
Beautiful rig. I use the same amp with an sd-1 in front into a Marshall cab. Brutal 80's metal tones.
4:57 BEST CHUG EVER
Dude that amp with the SD 1 sounds so mean. Metal level: 100%
The SD-1 is the perfect match to the JCM800 without a doubt.
Agreed.
Dude, love that combination! That classic metal tone will always be desired!
Hey man really enjoyed this. You did your best!! Haha don't be to hard on yourself😉
Looking forward to the next one😈
Recently bought myself a 20watt lead series jcm800 and it sounds 👌
That ts9 really sounded awesome with the fishman pickups! sounds so over the top, reminds me of Bloodbath's guitar tone
That's a fucking success! More of these in the future please !!! And btw, there is something so pleasant about the guitars thru the voice microphone, bottom end is so fucking tight!
Yes that sounds good you rock bro
Oooo he played trespass!
I sincerely want the 7 string model. I’ve been bouncing between that and the c-7 apocalypse.
@Jeremy Conner the plan is to put nazgul/sentients in it.
Loved the video ! Emg rocked. Even though when ive tried them I've not liked them. Keep it up Ola !
EMG 81 was invented to push the low gain amplifiers of the 80s to high gain. It sounds the best straight to Marshall JCMs. Used it like that for 15 years.
Tóth Balázs: Actually the 81 and 85 were invented for Jazz. Metal players picked up on them. James Hetfield used to be made fun of for using jazz pickups.
You're confusing emgs with Dimarzio Super Distortion. Emgs were jazz pickups.
playing Keiths riff was definately appropriate!
RUclips is so awake that I almost click on the videos by myself before it appears in my recommandation. Just now the damned bell told me there's a new Ola Englund video and the thing has been released one hour ago. They seem to be way more faster when it's about to block a vid for whatever reason.
35:00 min mark best chugg sound... Never could get that tight of riff out of my gear back in the day. Yes the older you get the better it is when the fart is not yours or your not in nose range of someone elses
If you put lots of reverb in and set gain to 7, treble to 9.5, mids to 1, and bass to 6 you get a familiar sound.
(Ride the Lightning)
You should try the Randall T2 hybrid head with a Celestion loaded cabinet
(Just running through the backlog for something to do) Man, that head made the cab go: Whomp - Whomp - Whomp, like a big 'ol bass drum!! Daddy like!! I think the tubes in the 'ol monster are getting ready to go....
You found it, awesome!
The guys on That Pedal Show recommend setting a Marshall with all the tone controls on zero, except the Middle which is up all the way. Try it.
Oof, that hurt my soul.
Haha! I have two of your guitars and I absolutely love them
I'm probably gonna get your KM6 USA model anyway..
Soul? Pfff, c'mon!! =)
@@SaberToothGary because riffs that good can only come from half man half demon-spawn
Why, Keith?
That was so sick man! I have a original KM6 in white from the first series, just had it rewired and got a new nut, it's insane. I'd still trade it for a Solar Guitar though! They're hard to get in New Zealand - our conversion to Euros isn't very good haha
Thank FUCK he’s not playing the tiny Hesu cab. This Fortin cab sounds colossal ! ☄️💥🔥⚡️ great match for the 100wJCM800 thunder
With the fortin hex was awesome tone...and the SD 1 as well
Thanks, ola englund for headcabinet distortion clean. in technology metal head lets go \m/
50 watt 5150 - 3 with the 6 L 6 tubes with the Precision Drive in front on 3rd Channel.
Thank you for the review. the tone coming out of my computer sounds like loud guitar vibrating off a snare drum. but I bet it rocks beside you in a room.
Marshalls are very brash. I have a JCM 2000, he probably needed to turn down the treble and presence greatly, which he couldn't hear sitting to the side of the cab
We want a full mix with the Marshall and the solar with the emg...it sounds killer!
Sounds sick really raw that’s probably next on the list before they get so expensive you can’t get one without getting ripped I’ll be looking for a nice one
The Solar definitely has more clarity with that amp. The Fishmans are like you have two overdrives running. Maybe try the KM with a Mesa or something.
I love the KM3 but you are right there are allot more Artafacting with the KM3 then with the solar.
“Hello, and welcome to ‘How to tune the guitar of the week’. “
😂 everything sounded cool but damn that low E man
Question if you can answer it. What cab will go good with the MT15 head for gigging? Second have you had a chance to play a Jackson X Warrior WRX 24M? Buying both unseen and usually scope your take on gear first even though 46 myself playing over 30 years sight unseen I like opinions before cash out LoL
I just bought one of the Dean From Hell today, hella excited for that but due to quarantine it probably won’t get to me until July.
I just bought a Solar 8 string on Monday.....it went from Spain to Ohio in 2 days
Would be really cool to do Ampeg VH140C now...
I love this guitar head stock
The Dork Son hahaha :D Mrak would love it!
I'm sad that I was asleep when this was live.
HM-2 + JCM800 is such great combo. Disfear, Black Breath tone. So sick. Basically the reason I bought a JCM800.
That T-shirt is dope my man 😁
Hey dude, have you ever messed with a BBE Sonic Maximizer? The 482 has been a part of all my rigs for somewhere around 20 years through both tube and solid state amps. It's easy to over-use, but aside from all the marketing jargon the company claims it essentially acts in the effects loop as a super simple EQ for bass & treble boost.
The solar pickups sounded killer
You didnt play de Guvnor! Cheers from Argentina Ola!!!
The Solar sounds better. I have noticed when I play my Runt, it sounds better with lower output pickups. But, into my Mark V, hotter pickups sound better. I think Brown amps sound better with lower output pickups.
I have the 412 cab to match it. the tolex is bad, but the celestion 25s i think they are, sound thick and push some air.
Love the fart sounds and that one pedal was making me laugh so hard literally was crying... Bust out your birthday Stratocaster...
Hi Ola, great job as usual, I love the fart noise! A question for you, nowadays everyone is posting videos about Harley Benton, even my neighbor's dog, now they have in line the Amarok (HB have the 6,7 or baritone) that seems the right one to be tested by you. We cant thrust people who don't do burbs and farts on RUclips, we thrist you man!
this might be my favorite one.
So what was wrong with the fortin 33 pedal? Why didn’t it work?
Dude that amp sounds fucking amazing!!!
id love to own one for sabath type music, but I thing you playing the orange stamp with the fortin ovrdrive sounded so much better. (IMOO)
Wow! I didn't expect that other people will also choose JCM800 o_O And Schecter too O_o
Not sure if you have all of them, but I'd like to see a volume comparison between the Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170, the EHX Caliber 44 and the Mooer Baby Bomb 30. The name might be a bit wrong. Ideally used with a Metal Zone or some other cheap preamp/distortion. I'be seen so many people claiming that the volume on the Mooer is enough but you're the only with with a dB meter on screen so I trust that more than someone's opinion while playing in a quiet room...
Ola The Improvizerer. Great Job! Do it Do it again.😀
Jcm800 is a necessity in life.
My next amp, but again which type, seems too many options
I have dsl40c. Are the circuits much different?
I’ve had both. The DSL on the clean channel with the crunch can get pretty close to a JCM 800 single channel. The circuits aren’t too similar however. Cranking the power section helps as well. Still, I have kept my dual channel 800 and sold the 40. If you’re on the fence I would say you won’t be disappointed by getting an 800. The dual channels aren’t the classic 800 but they sound good too. I’d try one out if you’re going to buy one to make sure it doesn’t have channel bleed and get an attenuator so you can crank the channel volume for added crunch.
@@scottFL I had a DSL401 and it was pretty cool. I got the tubes rebiased and it felt like it had far more gain afterwards. clean channel with the gain all the way up would be a better JCM approximation, but that's not how i used mine.
You guys want the 2204 (50w) and 2203 (100w) single channel models, those are the classic jcm 800's everybody used and talks about, not a 2205/ 2210 2 channel models like He's playing here.
Get a GX130c and chug it out sometime soon! Just got one and it sounds killer!
Fishmans and the KM guitars sound killer but they do take some tweaking, otherwise they get too gained out and too high-endy. I'm assuming that Ola's guitar has a more chill pickup and makes the rig sound tighter
Anthrax was in my head as soon as you started playing caught in a mosh
39:25 "The sound of corona right there"👍😂
Just received my Solar V2.7 goddamn awesome guitar ola, easy as fuck play dude, glad i went with solar, may just have to pick up a 6 from ya as well
Cerberus is my favorite track on yer masters o the universe. What guitar are you chugging on there?
Hey ola can you try some local pedals in philippines like prometheus of stomp machine?
ola- im going to split this pick up and get get some sweat telli tones
also ola- starts speaking in chug
I missed it...crap...WTH luv the old Marshall JCM 800 luv the tubes
Get the damn deal done!
If you get a chance do a DIssection tone video or a cover.
Mmm
800’s are great, I still have a mint 2203 CSA that’s amazing. If you want metal tones from them you’ll need a pedal or two but yeah, killer for metal. For all the noobs out there, don’t overlook the 900 series, they’re much better for heavier tones than the 800 (“oh my fucking gawd, sacrilege”), they just HAVE to be turned up to get them in the sweet spot of warmth and dynamics. People have to quit using the term “cranked”, cranked means “dimed” or “all the way up” “all the way to 11” etc. Marshall’s rarely if ever sound best when dimed or cranked. Yes they need to be turned up to about half to 3/4 to get them to sound full and not shrill.
Reg Rock my 2204 has to be on at least 6 with the preamp cranked. 2205 has to be on at least 4 with channel volume cranked and gain on at least 8 and my 4100 900 has to be on at least 8 on both channels to sound amazing.
Ethan Anders -nice collection you’ve got there. I hope Ola does a 900 review, turned up of course.
Yeah.... Ola you know that mode one on the Fishman pups are more passive output...right?
Love your guitar brand, but could you please make a bass version!!!
would get one immediately!!!
A BSG tshirt! I have a ton of them too :)
Just a friendly FYI; If your amp is getting noisier and noisier the longer it's turned on, chances are you've got a bad capacitor or 3 to deal with.k. I'm not saying you should be poking around in there yourself to see if I'm right, though. There's big, high-voltage capacitors in all tube amps that can kill you 3 times over (if not properly discharged). That's a job for an experienced tech.
Ola, between Peavey 6505 and JCM 800 which one do you prefer?
The HM-2 earned this video its 1000th like.
Great show! Ola nice job on the live show! 🤘
Be careful with that grounding issue. Great video BTW :)
I wish you would run the orange Stamp into it as a pedal....just to see wtf would happen
The amp noise was fine, Ola. Just sounds like any tube amp when you're in the room with it. It may seem louder to you while recording, but the video sounds fine, perfectly a-o-k, bro.
The background noise could be from bad power filtering capacitors (these are very old amps nowadays!)
The boss ds1 I kinda hate cause i don't have a Marshall anymore will love that jcm800
Ola what's the neck on the KM6 like?
I just spewed coffee out my freakin nose when you hit the fart button, geezus farts are hilarious .
That schecter is sic. Btw.
I think the JCM sounded great off your lapel mic. I'm not a big fan of close miking though. EMG's and the Solar's sounded the best to my ears, nothing against the KM guitar. That thing looks like a beast.
Hey ola i hear the strings buzzing on the headstock of the scheckter try putting a soft hair elastiek on it.
Those Fluence pickups sound pretty artificial and noisy with this rig when A/B'd with your Solar. There's this constant high-end squeal with the KM that's totally gone with the Solar.
i had all 3 KM models, the KM3 felt the nicest but sounded the worst and I didn't even like the Nazguls. I had the KM2 the longest and had Dimarzio Dactivators/BKP Black Hawks/BKP Warpigs and the Fluences sounded super artificial like you said. Idk why they're so hyped right now, the Fishman classic sets I tried with an ESP had the same fake sound
Wants the maxon hit, classic Ola emerged
Will it chug ? Cranked Marshal Plexi.
I actually prefer the room Mic tone than the cab Mic version. Just sounds natural
I want the KM6 as a Tele.
