  • You are probably just like me and trying to figure it all out... but perhaps watching this video might help you when deciding what kind of board you need that will suit your wave conditions and also your goals with your surfing.
    Enjoy

I shape my own boards too. I put a lot of rocker on my tail to try and make my long board turn better and found that made it nose ride far easier.

      Right on!
Agreed, like the tail rocker gets better hooked under the curl and counter balances the weight on the nose. My homemade log is back home and I haven’t had a chance to ride it for half a year! I miss it. TBH…. The best board for getting anywhere near the nose for a surfer of my size and level of competence.
Plus, something so rewarding making it yourself 🤙🤙🤙

It took me some years to figure out the best board for me in typical Zealand conditions... I also wondered a lot through the process, if it was me or the equipment that was to blame 😅😅

Ridiculous that you didn’t want to wax your board. You must control the speed, direction and trim of the board through your feet. So having a good “grip” on the board is gonna be really important. And OF COURSE the board matters for any maneuver you want to do, including getting to the nose. Do you even understand what’s happening when you’re surfing a wave?
