It's a natural part of the progression of surfing. I would add that something a person can do in the off time is practice their standup maneuver. People think this is just something beginners do but I have been surfing 45 years and I still do it. You should be coming off the carpet and your feet should land in proper position every time. I’m 58 and still ride short boards and get my share of waves at competitive spots. Practicing the takeoff had been key.

    Ridiculous that you didn’t want to wax your board. You must control the speed, direction and trim of the board through your feet. So having a good “grip” on the board is gonna be really important. And OF COURSE the board matters for any maneuver you want to do, including getting to the nose. Do you even understand what’s happening when you’re surfing a wave?

      Geez. Greet question. Yes to the three equal sections… but the wide point, I don’t know enough about board design to answer accurately. I am guessing a board with the wide point back would be more stable popping up further back than one with the wide point further forward. This is just me guessing though. And I am glad you made me think about this. I am planning on shaping my second board shortly, and it’s another thought to include into my design, gracias 🙏🤙🤙

    By doing the type of cutbacks you show in this video you are dropping down to the dead part of the wave and then riding back up it. Trim Tip: Try shifting your weight back to slow the board down (the opposite of placing your weight forward to speed up) so that you can STAY in the critical part of the wave directly next to the curl/whitewash. This is a lot of fun and allows you to really control where you are in the wave and sets you up for being able to perform a lot of additional maneuvers - including dragging your hand along the face of the wave. Happy surfing!

      @noseridesnosedivessurfvlog8634 5 месяцев назад

      Nice. Yes, I definitely like the feeling of surfing off my trail leg and stalling the board to stay in the critical part of the wave… I think that’s mostly what surfing is, just constantly doing the manoeuvres and adjustments to stay in the curl🤙🤙 Thanks for the advice and the stoke 🤩

    Hi, I've just snapped my longboard of 9 years 😢. Im thinking about getting either an NSP Sleepwalker or a Walden Magic for my next board. I'm of a similar standard of surfing to yourself. I have question during lineup how do u know its you turn to paddle for a wave or this is your wave, i saw video thats said people take turn, in fact i notice they dont, all those skilled surfer just go for wave whenever they see one, they keep going, kooks like never have a chance to go for wave

    • @noseridesnosedivessurfvlog8634
      @noseridesnosedivessurfvlog8634 6 месяцев назад

      Great question, the rule of thumb is, whoever is closest to the peak(where the wave is breaking)... but this can also be very confusing especially for a novice. If you are missing waves then the more experienced surfers tend to take it as a sign that even though it might be your wave, instead of letting it go to waste, they might as well go for it too... which if they are good surfers and you actually catch the wave then they will give it to you, but if you miss it, then they will be in position to take it and not let it go to waste. Depending on the lineup, it's usually tough out there if you don't know anyone, because no matter how friendly you try to be, most surfers(male and female) think of you as the competition and keep their poker faces on... which is kind of ridiculous... but there are a lot of people that surf and only so many waves... I too notice that there are a lot of egos that just padle at everything, so I actually to be honest can't give you any other answer than you have just as much right to be there as them and that sometimes being a little egotistical in an ego driven sport is necessary. Although I am still the kook that is giving everyone a friendly nod and smiling and trying to share the stoke... the absolut best thing I can recommend is to padle out with a couple of good mates, every surfer hates it when they have a lineup where they think they know the pecking order and then a group of three new surfers join in... it's usually enough to interrupt the flow of the lineup and frustrate the ego maniacs so that they will padle in with disgust Lol! Good luck and stay stoked!

    Mate this couldn’t have come into my feed at a better time. I’m feeling all of these emotions and at the moment I’m currently learning and putting my all into learning to surf. It truely is therapeutic especially when you have stuff like imposter syndrome and self doubt, things along those line weighing on you. Great video may go under appreciated but this is so true.

      Hang in there bro. Learning to surf is so grounding.. for me, every time I wipe out and surface, I laugh at myself because it reminds me of how much of a beginner I am. The beginner mindset is something I need to be reminded of often in surfing but also in my everyday! One of the things that helps remind me when I am struggling is, that even though it appears like everyone else has it all figured out, we are all going through personal struggles, so nobody has life figured out! Imposter syndrome and self doubt...funny, the more I learn in my field of work the more I realize the less I know, perhaps the imposter syndrome is just your inner demons smiling at you and saying, no matter how much you think you know, keep going because as cheesy as it sounds, you can always learn more. Perhaps confidence comes from knowing that you are still in the process of learning? Fuck! Sorry bro... don't mean to preach, I am just trying to figure it all out too! Good luck with your surfing and in the grand scheme of it all, you might as well believe in yourself because you have absolutely nothing to lose! ... there I go again... I'll stop now! Thanks for the stoke!

    Only difference between longboard and shortboard really is on a shortboard you dont have the advantage of using your toes, you have to create the same amount of space by using your knees as leverage. So if you are on a longboard but plan on moving down to short, id recommend to start using your knees already because you wont have anything to place your toes on sooner or later

    Hey mate, Small point of feedback, your popup really needs work. You seem to popup with your front foot almost pointed straight towards the beach. A few pointers Have you tried staggering your hands? It creates almost 50% more room for your legs to travel through, watch the video of hydromind called: Pop Up On Your Surfboard 2X Faster Have you worked on your hip internal rotation? As in, stretching the hip internal rotation 4x a week for about 1-2minutes for a period of 2-3 months? This pretty much fixed my issue, I am literally instantly in position with my back foot perfectly positioned as well as my front foot not point towards the beach. Good exercise for hip internal rotation on youtube is: powerfull banded hip mobilization. I looked at a few videos from years back and this is holding you back as a surfer man, you can progress so much by working on this, I know because I was in EXACTLY the same spot as you!! Thanks man! Yeah… I had a lesson when I started 6 years back, then have had some pointers from some good friends, but otherwise I have been just learning by doing do it myself kind of stoke. But to actually have an expert analysis and give me professional guidance. Ben is the best, a genuine legend. Would recommend this for sure🤙🤙

    The best paddlers I've seen seem to have really good balance, (drag reduction), and super efficient arm action, (no splashing). I will say, that my paddling has improved with fitness, and not being lazy about balance. I like your idea, it's getting folks talking. I like flipping stones.
