I was married to my Polish husband for 47 years and he taught me this dish the first week we were married. We always had them with some baked ham slices and ALWAYS served with applesauce and sour cream. He passed away in 2017 and every time I make this most favorite dish, I remember how much fun I had learning to cook new foods. Thanks, Jenny, for sharing your recipes with us. And for reminding me how much I love cooking even at age 72. 🥹❤️
This lady knows her stuff. I loved potatoe pancakes as a kid and I never in(all these years) learned how to make them. I can't wait. Even a little lesson on flipping. I love this lady.
I'm eating these right now -Absolutely the best potato pancakes ever! They were simple to make, fast, and pretty-much fool-proof. I've tried many, many recipes but this is hands-down the best.
I always used to beg my grandma to make these. She’s still alive, she just turned 90 and is fighting cancer. I wanna make these because I miss them. Thanks for the recipe.
I couldn't even finish this video without saying that your kitchen makes me so happy. All that colour. Wow! That is the coolest knife I have ever seen!
Hi Jenny, firstly a BIG thank you for showing us all of those wonderful Polish dishes. I’m Polish and it’s really nice to see some Polish recipes. Secondly, my grandma used to make those pancakes very often. She always grated the potatoes and onions on a grater. And she fried them really thin. So they were incredibly crispy and thin. We ate them for dinner either with sour cream and chives or with sugar. From where I am we call them placki ziemniaczane. Actually, I haven’t made them in a really long time. You inspired me to. Thanks once again!
I can't tell you how thankful I am for this recipe. My mum made THE BEST potato pancakes, but I'm approaching 20 years without her, and 33 years+ without her making them for our family. She was Ukrainian, and this recipe is almost exactly hers with one major important difference that I can't wait to try- the 5 min drain through the strainer. I have not been able to for figure out why mine are so watery and greasy. I would use more oil because of the watery batter. Now I know what to do!! I am trying this tomorrow. Thank you and God bless you!
I have to say Jen, (...I can call you that, cos that's my dear wifes name, lol ) It is so refreshing to see such clear no-bullshit, Tube recipes put together as well as you have done, - Very clear and easy, - even for a vague old boy like me to follow. Thanks
My grandfather from East Prussia used to make them with green onion and then would serve them with my grandmothers home made berry jams and fresh cream, they were great.
Great cooking, simple and to the point. I am not an American, but I see myself as a citizen of the world, yet born on the African Continent. Your so passionate and lovable, the secret of good cooking is the love you put in it. You can be the best cook in the world, but if there is no love added into the mixture life will taste sour and just boring, perfect....you go girl.
Just made these exact to your recipe. I swept a tiny bit of creme fraich over the polish pancakes (I know but this is a treat!), then topped it with an over easy egg, then dribbled a sauce mixture of a dallop of mayo, saracha and dijon sauce mixed together over the egg, then scattered fried Portuguese sausage slithers all around. I ate an unbelievably delicous international breakfast... for dinner!
Thank You so much for doing this recipe. Such a help. You are always cheerful and so pleasant to watch and listen to! Your humor at the end is always delightful! Puts a smile on my face for sure!
What a lovely Lady; what a beautiful voice. I made the pancakes exactly as she instructed and they are like herself, absolutely beautiful. Thank you from Australia.
Thanks Jenny, those look great. Growing up, my Polish dad never used to drain the water, I like the looks w/o the water. Me and my 4 brothers used to do all the grating and by the time we were done, a lot of the potatoes would be brown, lol. But my mom used to fry these and we would eat them as they came out and she could barely keep up!! Loved these. (We also used sour cream, but lately I have found that plain yogurt tastes just like sour cream but is healthier, I will have to try it on these. Thanks again, hope you are staying safe!
Thank you! My husband and I both grew up having these as part of our regular mealtimes and loved them. After several attempts with no real success we were frustrated beyond belief. While we had the recipe we somehow managed to never been allowed to help beyond grating the potatoes and onion and as a result we were missing one step. We weren't adding the potato starch back in and as a result they wouldn't fry properly. We tried adding a little more flour, a little more of liquid back in and even tried an extra egg all with no success, it never even occured to me to add starch back in, even though I was aware it separated from the water when I did the clean up,. Thank you again, we're so happy to be able to add them to the menu rotation for our family. 😊
I took one look/listen (before seeing the name Jenny) and was so excited in my mind thinking “That is Jenny Jones, WOW she look great!”. So nice to see her again after all these years
I like your videos. They're informative and not too long. My mother-in-law had taught me to make several Polish dishes, including Pierogi and Naleschniki.
My mom used to add leftover corn (frozen or fresh). I like to use green onion with the sour cream or put them in the potato pancake as well as the white or yellow onion. It a great way to get creative and add all sorts of things. My hubby loves them with bacon :D Thank you for bringing back some happy memories
OMG this reminds me of my mother's potato pancakes that she made when i was young. I havent had these in years but will have to make this recipe. Its amazing how food can bring back such good memories. Thanks Jenny!
I got a food processor for Christmas from my good lady. First time I have owned one in 50+ years and this is one of the first things I've made in it. Easy and delicious, thank you.
Wow, exactly as I remember "Kartoffelpuffer" from my childhood in Germany except this method is so much easier - I belong to the generation that used a shredder and many a knuckle turned bloody whilst preparing the potatoes. In my family this was traditionally served with applesauce. Also, the addition of a little chopped parsley to the dough before frying is very nice. I particularly like the small amount of oil used, the taste is better and your heart will thank you. I'm seriously impressed, thank you Jenny
My mother used the same recipe but always used box grater cause there were no food processers😄. but she used 4 or 5 pds of potatoes (big family). we ate them with sour cream, applesauce, cottage cheese, and canned salmon. Delish!
I just made these for my husband and he said they need to go into my every day cookbook and I so liked them too. It was the first time I had potato pancakes. I did them without any oil, in a Organic Ceramic pan and, Just Wow!
I hope this will work with sweet patatoes as well. Been looking at recipies of those and this seems the easiest and quickest way to make pancakes with patatoes. Nice.
we had potato pancakes with chicken soup often except we grate raw potato coarsely and sometimes add a little sweet potato. loved the crunchier outer rim and softer centre . the also go well with apple sauce
I just love watching Jenny cook. Then I go and make the recipe myself...MMMMM. And you are so entertaining, too, Jenny. I think you are turning me on to great Polish foods.
The videographer did an amazing job filming Jenny!!! There was no jerry movement with the Camera!!! I looove Jennys very cozy kitchen!!! Humanity needs to understand whether they live in a very big house or a tiny house their friends really appreciate being in a cozy kitchen that smells of real home cooking!!! I loove to keep a cozy kitchen like Jenny as I always enjoy playing in the kitchen...it's my playground!!!
I have enjoyed every video of yours I ever seen, Jenny. Nice work. Thank you. Just my opinion but Corn oil and Canola oil ARE made from Round Up ready GMO crops. I won't have them in my house, let alone cook with them. For frying, restaurants use them so now I eat out way less. Which works for me, I prefer to do all my own cooking anyway, so I know what is in my food, thank you very much. Olive, peanut and grape seed oils is not GMO, yet, So that's all I use for cooking oils. Grape seed oil is good for high temperatures.
I'm Acadian (from Canada) and I've been eating those since I was very young. And what a surprise when I was in Poland in 1983 and I was served patato pancakes! I want to try these...for supper! Thanks Jenny, great video!. I especially like the way you have the recipe link in the video. You are the first person I know of who makes it so easy to get the recipe. Most of the time I am writing fast and then can' t read my writing. I printed out the recipe and I am going to try these, they look delicious!
I make potato cakes from left over mashed potatoes (when there are some left over). Pretty much same ingredients but I add chopped green pepper, too. Had some tonight. Thanks for the Polish version.

Thank you so much for the is video. I could almost smell them cooking. My dear dziadek(Polish Grand father) used to make 'platski' the old fashion way when my sisters and I were kids, on a Sunday morning. I tried these today! :D Worked beautifully. Followed your instructions to the point. Just replaced the egg with 1 tablespoon of soy flour and made a few without any oil, used coconut oil for some (yummy delicious hint of coconut taste). Worked beautifully. I ate them with apple sauce :D
