Nah man I learned about this song from the walking dead and I still go back to it and think about that scene where he’s just defeated calmly walking by walkers
"I've been on the road...couple months now" "Where were you before that?" "I was in a town" "Were the monsters there?" "No...it was safe...full of good people" "What happened?" "He just....lost it" "Who? "The man in charge...barely got out alive"
This song was inspired by the book "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy. Ben Nichols wrote an entire album based on that book, and this is one of the tracks. It was written before "The Walking Dead" existed. That said, Ben Nichols is an excellent singer/songwriter and if "The Walking Dead" led you to discover his talent, that's a good thing.
@@oryanbegay7856 Have you read "Blood Meridian"? Yeah, Lucero is awesome. I love the raw blend of country and rock. It's real and gritty. Here's my favorite song by Lucero. ruclips.net/video/b-RhFaRFB1g/видео.html
Quite knowledgeable. Yes I heard it from walking dead. There are a lot of good songs used in the series, i specifically am looking for any music containing or referencing the words "Last Man" Honestly I'd have to say this song is at the bottom of my list, not talent is quite the word I'd use but it would do in a pinch, just like it did for the Walking dead. I'm guessing somebody on the set had a friend who knew a guy that was in a band tryin to make it big, kinda thing.
This song is so amazing. It's the very definition of bittersweet. I am one of few who actually liked the Governor and saw him as a very tragic character. This song was perfect because it showed how he was broken, spiritless, and lost the will to live. The part where he has his beard grown out and his clothes are rags and he is filthy and can barely even muster up strength to move out of the way when a walker attacks him. I think the saddest part of the entire series is AFTER he storms the prison and kills Hershel, and his new love interest bring her bitten daughter back to him, disappointed that he failed to protect her. He coldly picks her up in his arms and shoots her in the head. That was the moment he died and any humanity left inside him was forever gone. Very touching and heart breaking although he was a monster that deserved to die he was once a loving father and husband.
He was a true psychopath, probably as the result of childhood abuse, but in some situations it seemed like he could be a decent person... Just not when he had any power or purpose.... In other words, when he was kept extremely humble by outside forces, or by the results of his own actions, he was actually a decent human being. The psychopathy came out in full force, however, when it came to power or protecting loved ones. He really is a fascinating character.
Jon Kline I agree! You are thinking EXACTLY the same as me! Many people say the Governor killing Megan without hesitation is he showed his true colors. He never loved Megan. But i think it's obvious he DID LOVE HER. He shot her without remorse because she was bitten and dead anyway and he just lost it when he saw her dead in Lilly's arms. He shot himself so to speak. I am 100% sure he would kill himself IF he had wiped out Rick's entire group. He had nothing else to live for. He had lost everything. He gave up when Megan died. He didn't care if he lived or died. Sure he wanted Rick & Michonne dead and he took out all anger on Rick.He probably would shoot himself with his Beretta pistol or walked into walkers after conquering the prison.
Never saw a song fit so well with a video. This song playing while the Governor walks away was so touching that I forget everything he did for at least for a few minutes. Awsome.
***** or circumstances forced everyone to do things we would deem morally unsound, and he was a little unhinged mentally as all that responsibility sort of fell to him and he lost control/sight of himself and the situation. No manual on how to handle the end of the world.
Make sure you add Oats in the Water - Ben Howard / Hold On - Tom Waits If you haven’t already. Got both from TWD. Listen to both of em everyday now lmaooo
PrincessMimZ Indeed he was a great character and this song fit really well in the scene when he returns as True Grit haha. Although i think you loose any kind of sympathy for him when he meets his demise
CradleofValentine666 i found myself sympathizing with him at times, but whenever i look at the situation as a whole, i definitely dont. i honestly dont think he was a bad person before all of this, but not everyone in the ZA does what he did. i do miss him, david morrisey was one of the best actors twd has had. i miss having a Big Bad character. but we'll probably get the next one next season or so.
of course The Walking Dead brought me here, seizes to amaze me with there music soundtracks they play.. this episode of the governor made me change my opinion on him, I hope he finds his way and his redemption ...
Well I'm not convinced he's totally reformed. He's gone along with this new family out of convenience and because it's better then being solo, but if he's faced with tough choices again, he'll revert to his old self. And if he runs out of supplies, I'm sure he'll start preying on others to get them, just like always did.
Dude he just killed like 30 people a few episodes ago, and many more before that for no reason, and you're already all forgive and forget. Oh whatever, they were mostly extras anyway...
ChuckPalomo Those 30 people had just wrecked into the jail with the full intentions of killing rick, herschel, judith, etc. Did they deserve to get massacred by their leader? no, but they weren't saints. To survive a year at the end of the world, your hands are going to be pretty dirty.

I watched the first four seasons of TWD with my girlfriend. A week later, we broke up. When I come back to this song, I can't help but cry. I feel like the Governor in season four. No will to live any more, but still going because I have to, with no one to blame but myself. I truly loved her and miss her more than anything. Word of advice: If you love someone, don't take them for granted, and treat them right. I hope one day we can finish the show together if our paths cross again.

This song is up there with Wye Oak - Civilian as the most memorable soundtrack from Walking Dead so far. Full of feelings and flashbacks when listening to these 2. Shockingly, both for the villians that everybody apparently loved to hate.
Well, he was portrayed as a villain by the writing, and the viewers in the majority disliked him. It's silly because he basically became the ultimate survivor, what Rick is now, but WAY before anyone else, so was outcast and seen as a psycho, crazy. Still miss him, don't get me started.
Get a Life Gaming But don't forget Rick would have let the Gov into the prison to avoid fighting a tank; I don't think Shane would have made that same offer. I think Shane's actor did a great job with the character, though!
the song of Wye Oak - Civilian describes to perfection what was Shane, also this song also describes the Governor Ben Nichols and even Ben Howard The Water Oats in Herschel and I think Shane, The Governor and Hershel are by many the best characters have the Walking Dead.
Just made a beautiful memory today. Saw some friends at the bar which I haven't seen in a half a year due to military deployment, we drank, smoked and had lots of fun, on my way home drunk I started kicking this tangerine on my way home while listening to this, it started losing pieces of itself, just like the governor, slowly becoming an empty shell which is far from his former self.
Man, I'm completely in love with this song right now. There's so much going on in my life, without me getting too personal, and I can really relate with how this feels.
The Walking Dead brought me here, so the promo is totally WORKING!!!!...Yeah so what I didn't know who he was before last night, lol, that's why he let them use his song, DUH!! lol Great Song!
He never sleeps. He says that he will never die. He dances in light and in shadow and he is a great favorite. He never sleeps, the judge. He is dancing, dancing. He says that he will never die.
Very fitting song to illustrate teh Governor's journey. The creators of The Walking Dead have once again intruduced us to outstanding music. I wonder if they've released a "soundtrack" of sorts.
The prison gets destroyed spoiler alert and just to let u kno if u just watching the series just stop your so fucking late walking dead been out for 3 years people like come on
Can there be no redemption for the wicked? Can a man with a broken soul not be mended? I am a Marine, even after everything I have done, everything I have seen; and I have seen horrors that would send most men screaming into insanity never to return; then right along side of that I have seen heart stopping beauty. Hope is eternal, redemption is possible. Semper Fi.
No, there is no forgiveness for someone who murders dozens of his own friends in cold blood by his own decision. Redemption is for grey area type actions, like the ones you're probably talking about. For the governor no.
Ricardo Amendoeira He seemed quite "hot-blooded" on that moment ! ^^ I think some people here don't happen to conceive the difference between redemption and absolution. The fact that the Governor may be destroyed by the conscience of his actions, or the fact that he changes to find back the humanity that he had lost... well, all that do not remove anything to his crimes, to his guilt ; but it actually makes him a better man. Nothing can change the fact that a criminal is a criminal ; but the redemption of the human being, of the soul underneath, is always a good thing - no matter how despicable the crime is.
Mean Olddog I was a Navy Seal and Delta Force at the same time for 40 years. And I can bench press 700 pounds and run a 4.5 forty yard dash. In vino veritas.

Im sure everyone knows there is a spin off Walking Dead tv show coming out I think it would be great to have the Governor as the main character because for me the redemption of this character is top class he will do what it takes to protect his own.
It's been said numerous times already that the new group in '15 will have nothing to do with any of the people in Georgia. Are you on the left or right in that photo?
When he drives that 5ton truck through the gate..... I live in that moment every day. This is MY theme song now, whilst thinking about Governor standing in the street as the world burns. Every. Single. Day.
Oh here we go again. Let me wrap it up for you. This song is gonna get lots of views cause it was last nught on The Walking Dead. People are gonna be "The Walking Dead" brought me here. Then other people are gonna come and say "Good taste in music brought me here" I just made you save a lot of time reading the comments
I love and feel for the Governor SO much. this song just portrays a 1000 images of what the Governor has been through, and what he's had to deal with. Burning down Woodbury was just insane... Being ditched by Martinez and Bowman. I feel So sorry for Phillip, and still care for the character even after killing off my fave characters in Andrea/Merle.....Sucks so bad... But I know that by the end of this season, maybe mid season, we're going to HATE the guy SOOO much after he gets revenge in some sick way on the Prison Group.... I can feel it.
gregmcawesome I agree with you guys, to tell you the truth... The Walking Dead just makes you feel for every character, even if they aren't there for too long.
It really does hit you. And then you see what he's capable of in episode 7. And what he's willing to do in the next one (the assault on the prison). He's an interesting character because he's completely amoral. He's going to survive, he's going to have some quality of life and anyone getting in his way or not helping him and his people are to be destroyed. We can feel sorry for him as a character but he's sort of stepped over a line. It's that idea if humanity is going to survive and continue on it will take more then physically surviving, retaining some part of our humanity will have to go along with it.
gregmcawesome His real name is Phillip Blake. He found the name Brian Heriot on a wall in the beginning of the sixth episode, I'm tired of pointing this out to people.
Am I the only one who still listens to this in 2024 and thinks about Governor?

He really did, I sitll miss Shane super bad, Jon Bernthal did an INSANE job with the character, just would love to see him still around.
the song of Wye Oak - Civilian describes to perfection what was Shane, also this song also describes the Governor Ben Nichols and even Ben Howard The Water Oats in Herschel and I think Shane, The Governor and Hershel are by many the best characters have the Walking Dead.
For real, facts
Just made a beautiful memory today. Saw some friends at the bar which I haven't seen in a half a year due to military deployment, we drank, smoked and had lots of fun, on my way home drunk I started kicking this tangerine on my way home while listening to this, it started losing pieces of itself, just like the governor, slowly becoming an empty shell which is far from his former self.
This track and the govenor will always live rent free in my mind
heard this on the walking dead ages ago and im rewatching it, so good im abit late tho.
twd songs were the best
When I listen to this song I just want to walk aimlessly down the road

Man, I'm completely in love with this song right now. There's so much going on in my life, without me getting too personal, and I can really relate with how this feels.
I honestly thought there might have been a redemption Arc being built for The govenor when I saw this episode.
It kinda was till his character lost it and went psychotic again lol.
This should be on the radio !!! FOO SHOO!!
This song is awesome, still get goosebumps when I hear it.
the walking dead always finds the best songs to make epic scenes even more epic. amazing.

late recognition for this beautiful song.... Long live the governor :)
Very fitting song to illustrate teh Governor's journey. The creators of The Walking Dead have once again intruduced us to outstanding music. I wonder if they've released a "soundtrack" of sorts.
Found this on walking dead...love the vibe and the steel guitar
Thank for everything Mr McCarthy
Can't believe Hershel died, RIP :(

Can there be no redemption for the wicked? Can a man with a broken soul not be mended? I am a Marine, even after everything I have done, everything I have seen; and I have seen horrors that would send most men screaming into insanity never to return; then right along side of that I have seen heart stopping beauty. Hope is eternal, redemption is possible. Semper Fi.
No, there is no forgiveness for someone who murders dozens of his own friends in cold blood by his own decision. Redemption is for grey area type actions, like the ones you're probably talking about.
For the governor no.
Ricardo Amendoeira
He seemed quite "hot-blooded" on that moment !
***** You are correct sir, earning the title and spending 30+ years serving as a US Marine makes me a Marine. Celer, Silens, Mortalis! Semper Fi!
Mean Olddog I was a Navy Seal and Delta Force at the same time for 40 years. And I can bench press 700 pounds and run a 4.5 forty yard dash. In vino veritas.
Kromsmitesyou You sir, are a beast, fair winds and following seas sailor.
The governor is badass enough to walk right past a walker that's lunging at him, being all "I don't have time for your crap right now."
If they ever made a proper adaptation of “Old Man Logan”, this would be the end credits theme.
Just re-watching The Walking Dead from series 1. I'm on S4E6! The Governor is back!!!
Been listening to Lucero for 10+ years. Bout shit a brick when I saw Walking Dead, couldn't believe it. Awesome to hear after all these years, great scene for people to get a first time listen.
"great scene for people to get a first time listen."
Nice try breaking the internet, sir.
Not even a fan of country, but when I first heard the song, I loved it, and it really was a great introduction to a great song for me.
Literally soundhounded every single song in the walking dead. This is a great song.
Local townspeople say they still see the governor walking their streets from time to time
Whenever I mess up, I listen to this song and reflect on what I did wrong, crazy how much time flies by. Some things can’t be undone.
I cant help but think of Red Dead Redemption while listening to this song
Arthur and John💔
R.I.P Phillip
OMG! Caught this song on last weeks episode of "The Walking Dead." Love this song!!!!!!
One of my favorite songs.
Few songs from TV or movies have had such a profound impact on me.
Here from the TWD. I've loaded this track up to a playlist for a morning run about once a month since series 4.
This song played during the 4th season of the walking dead...when the governor fully dodged a walker lol...funniest thing i saw all episode
This song fits Red Dead Redemption (1 & 2) perfectly.
@ 1:41 "I've been on the road for a couple months.. by yourself?.. yeah... where did you live before that?...I was in a town.. Were the monsters there?... No.. It was safe... Full of good people... What happened?.... He just lost it... Who?... The man in charge... barely got out alive".. *Sidesteps clumsy walker
Love this song and it fits right in with the T.W.D. episode.
Song so easy flowing yet so powerful. Really paints a picture and tells a vivid story. Makes you want to keep pushing on.
When he drives that 5ton truck through the gate..... I live in that moment every day. This is MY theme song now, whilst thinking about Governor standing in the street as the world burns. Every. Single. Day.
"Don't go home, Brian Heriot"
Governor on this song was just perfect
This song is too damn short. Can't say that for a lot of music these days.
+bones22j But when you get that feeling you know that it is a good song
+bones22j Lol one of my favorite songs is 59 seconds long. THAT is too damn short.
+Jo Snippet what song would that be?
Oh here we go again. Let me wrap it up for you. This song is gonna get lots of views cause it was last nught on The Walking Dead. People are gonna be "The Walking Dead" brought me here. Then other people are gonna come and say "Good taste in music brought me here" I just made you save a lot of time reading the comments
Thank you kind sir.
beat me to it. I feel kinda childish
oh my god you can read the future °_°
I came here because i thought this was good music, and I heard in the walking dead. THE WALKING DEAD BROUGHT ME HERE! YOLO!
Its like you have ESPN!
"It could, but it can't. Not after Woodbury."
I love how at the beginning of the episode, when she asks what happened, he said he just lost it, as if he has come to terms with what he did
The days of season 4 of the walking dead were some awesome times...
RIP TWD, 2013 & 2014🕊️😥😭
Can we just go back to these days?...
I genuinely felt sorry for The Governor when this song played.
Jon Kline I agree 100% and feel the same way! Those were the best episodes with the governor in them I'm glad someone feels the same.
This song kind of reminds me of the whole season 1, when it all started (for the TWD fans) but also, this song is good
The Walking Dead brought me here! Goosebumps! :´)
The fact that Ben Nichols has a song featured on The Walking Dead is almost too much for me to handle. The best of all worlds.
I can feel it.
i'm with you dude... but the governors name is brian blake ... not phillip ... that was his brother and the father of penny ...
gregmcawesome I agree with you guys, to tell you the truth...
It's that idea if humanity is going to survive and continue on it will take more then physically surviving, retaining some part of our humanity will have to go along with it.
kolar This song was made for the governor!
gregmcawesome His real name is Phillip Blake. He found the name Brian Heriot on a wall in the beginning of the sixth episode, I'm tired of pointing this out to people.
