Is it possible to do a LAN without switch? I just wanna build up a LAN with my PC and rooter and another laptop so for 2 people.
"What you need for a Lan party is a switch."
-Casual gamer brings his Nintendo Switch to the Lan party.
RIP
@@CoalitionGaming But hey! Switches have LAN support now, so Task Failed Successfully?
You forgot to say how do you find friends ?
I miss doing this with deathmatch Doom and quake III
in order to host a LAN party you need a lan LOL :)
and thus the Switch! 1:32
Coalition Gaming Does the switch provide LAN? Or will I need to set one up on my PC first
Love your energy man! Would be so much fun gaming with you. Great video. I host a few of my own (4-6 people) and they always go over well. Can't stress cable management and power planning enough!
Nice glad yours go well! Power planning, so important yep!
Thanks bro! Going to be attempting this with Xbox 360s and some old Halo and Call of Duty games!!!
🤘
Maybe email out a checklist for people to bring stuff so they don’t forget
Thats a good one! Anything to help. Currently been using Evite to organize LAN parties with a rough checklist of what to be prepared with and what to have downloaded/patched right on there. Many still show up unprepared though. :/
Very informative thanks man
Thank you
thats excaly what i needed so chilled
You seem like such a nice guy, happy gaming bud
Thanks!
Wow bro seems like you’re a really giving person providing all your guests with everything they need & then feed them on top of that 😬Sheeeeesh
he must be an alien he grabs flying saucers LOL :)
No flying saucer wireless APs here!
you said the pizza was a flying saucer hehe ;)
@@mikemcdonald5147 oh right!
I always wondered if you could use an internet router as a switch? Like if your just trying to lan with one or 2 people?
Most routers have a 4 port switch built into them
@@CoalitionGaming I see, awesome. Thanks for the reply
I'm organising a LAN party at my house but we can't all fit in one room. 4 people will be in the living room and 4 people will be upstairs. It's a mix of laptops and desktops. How do I connect them all together? Do I need a switch for each room? Can the laptops connect wireless?
If wifi is strong enough, the laptops can be wifi. Stick the desktops on the floor where the router is so you can connect them with a switch to that router.
Hey. If I have a switch with 5 ports but - one cuz the internet in. So I have 4 slots for 5 people, my modem has 4 slots, can I plug them somehow in line so I can add that one pc?
Yeah you can Daisy chain switches. Your router/modem is the main one where the outside line for internet goes into, then you run an Ethernet cable from one of the open ports over to the switch. Then anyone who plugs in to either will have internet
What would be your recommendation for LAN network speed? Some say just a few megabits are necessary, others say a few hundred are the best.
The standard LAN network connection speed is 1gbps and has been for quite a long time. What exactly do you mean with your question?
@@CoalitionGaming I've considered selecting a faster LAN port for a server/router and getting the appropriate switches and cables in case we have to quickly download anything during the party. I've figured a server/router with a 2.5Gbe LAN NIC for eight people will get rid of some bottlenecks without spending too much money. A party of four might have more appropriate download speeds using Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps/4 = 250Mbps).
I'm a little new to networking and want to know how a network will handle multiple devices downloading at a time.
@@greatwavefan397 depends on the quality of the hardware. You may want to look into local game cache servers. Lots of videos on RUclips about them. A popular one is LanCache
great video.
thank you!
Do we need to hook the switch up to internet or can we just use it offline since I’m just gonna be doing local halo
Up to you if you want internet
roasting the AMD fans haha
Im triggered i use a Ryzen 3
8 bit eric
nice video!
Thanks!
can we just plug our pc's together with ethernet cords or do we need a switch?
Switch is recommended
Do I need to mess with the electrics if we are using Xbox ?
Should be fine
If you’re only playing with a few people can you use a normal internet router?
Yes!
Coalition Gaming okay thank you!!
how to use a wifi router instead of a switch?
Every computer would have to be on wifi connected to it. Only difference. Switch is recommended
@@CoalitionGaming so just connecting to the same wifi works almost similar to connecting to switch through lan
It puts the computers on the same network, so yes. But for NDI, you need more network bandwidth so wired via Ethernet is more recommended.
Watch2End&Comment
What about WiFi router
Most homes would already have one, anyone should just be able to jump on via WiFi. Should be fine but wired via switch always recommended
Could I get a link to that switch please
Here it is on newegg:
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181152
here it is on ebay:
www.ebay.com/itm/ZyXEL-GS1100-16-16-Ports-10-100-1000-Rack-Mountable-Ethernet-Switch-/262997449673?hash=item3d3bde9bc9:g:Qn8AAOSwjL5ZD8xe
When looking at these on ebay, message the seller about how long these were used for and if they were powered on 24/7. These have a 24/7 lifespan of about 3 years before needing some minor soldering repair on a capacitor, so if they are only a year old or so then they have alot of life left, or if they were only used sporadically (like i do with these LAN parties) then they'll last forever basically.
Coalition Gaming k
but you definetly need good wifi for a good experience
Don't trust this guy, he uses a keyboard tray
