If you're doing 8 or less people you don't need that giant switch. You can just use your standard router. OG Xbox and Xbox 360 LAN parties were always the best.
I've remember we got like a LAN (or should I say "Hotspot" party?) back in time in my OJT Days every 4pm, playing HL2, Dota (with WC3 FT), Team Fortress. We don't need switch, we're about 8 people connected in my laptop's WiFi Hotspot and works perfectfly. 😂

Jonah_ No. The router acts as the DHCP client information on the switch should be domain level. The router is only assigning ips, not routing LOCAL traffic. Now. If you just wanted internet, yes. switch plus one device in router is fine. If you want to say, host a server, all must be connected to the switch.
