"The Woody slips in" -Karl Smallwood 2023
Always loved the bit with "Far Away (name)" and "Nearby (name)". For the first several videos I ever saw, I thought those were some cool nicknames before realizing he's simply referring to literal proximity.
They also named a beetle species after Arnie. Agra schwarzeneggeri. Look up the reason why, it's hilarious
I have and its a good reason why they named it that.👍😁
The guy who named it, in his official scientific description, calls its thorax "swole"
In a video primarily about Arnold's last name, and last action hero, how can you have left out that Jack Slater gets Arnold's last name wrong in the movie to reference the difficulty of the name. I remember laughing so hard as a kid when says Arnold Braunschweiger!
Do not sell yourselves down, Karl’s research quality, all of your natural charisma and all of your personalities make this my favourite channel
❤
4:12 "Who is your daddy, and what does he do?"
As a kid I ended up watching a lot of older movies and all the Star Trek movies cause they were on vhs. Stuff like the old herby movies still give me a good nostalgia feeling
Thanks so much for lowering the sound level when the call came through!
i love how we get the reflection in the play button... not so off-camera today.
Honestly my husband enjoyed last action hero because to him, being that it was an action Movie parody, he also like the hot shots movies, and of course Airplane.
Think Last Action Hero also suffered from bad marketing. People saw Arnold with a gun in a movie with the word "action" in it and thought heavy action flick. Even the trailer minimized the comedy aspect of the movie. So people went in thinking big action flick with some comedy and got a meta comedy that happens to have action instead and were disappointed. I even thought that when I went to go see it, but enjoyed it more when I realized it was a comedy. (Same thing happened when I saw the original Scream) I liked the small Easter egg cameo of Robert Patrick is a patrolman's uniform brushing past Arnold and the kid and the kid does a double take realizing what he just saw. It wouldn't be the last time Patrick cameoed in that way either.
Which is weird because there are still like 3 or 4 solid action set pieces in the film. I mean that first car chase when the kid first gets into the movie world is legit great.
@@devilmikey00 yeah but then there's an action scene when the kid realizes he "isn't the hero, he's the comic relief" will take people looking for Terminator / Predator action filled movies, which he was more known for still. Not everyone had caught on to Arnold going back and forth between action and comedy yet.
I dont think they say this in kindergarten cop but I imagine arnold on the set saying: Ahhhh Kids 😂
Karl at the end slide, just smouldering at the camera whilst holding action figures
I feel like Arnold really backed up everything with his charm and his charisma
Surprisingly, 555 numbers are now a real thing.
Also, I've noticed that when you guys get excited over a movie, it makes me want to watch it, even if it's something I was actively disinterested in (when Karl's not being a bellend).
"I've got to get mah ass to Mars!"
"Arnold, we don't have the budget for that. We'll do just your name, OK?"
"Ja, OK".
The cartoon "Molly McGee" did quite a callout to VHS and their demise.
Sometimes the woody slips in....thats a soundbite forever! lol
In T2 the part where he goes from the pickup truck to the Simi-trunk he actually did that stunt himself
I think Tombstone was one of the movies I grew up with on VHS, I watched it so much. It's again one of the movies that wasn't top tier but still epic.
It is a shame that the ease of access of media has led to less exposure of decent less well known media. I know for a fact that i wouldn't have chosen to watch Meteor Man if a more well known movie was playing, but finding it while channel surfing one weekend when nothing else was playing exposed me to a great superhero spoof.
the Last Action Hero soundtrack is amazing
With movies and shows you kind of have to know there’s a difference between, what is good, what is popular and what you like
Everything about that luggage joke reminds me of resident evil 1 or 2.
I adore Last Action Hero. Didn’t see it until a couple years ago. Just never really came across it.
I love total recall. Just wanted to say that. And to boost yt algorythm
Surf Ninjas , ninja turtle III and top gun are my movies that I watched frequently as a child .16:14
Best shit Arnie film has to be End of Days.
He acts along side Gabriel Byrne and Rod Steiger. Also, he gets to proclaim (to Satan): “You are a choirboy compared to me, a fucking choirboy!”
I want to thank you guys for the years of great videos and the fact I've started using the phrase "professionally unprofessional"
I think I would have preferred the Jack Black thing done the other way...
The 6th Day is fucking awesome.
the video rental shop was the home of bad movies, but with great covers on the box
Where else but Last Action Hero are you going to see Arnold Schwarzenegger as Hamlet.
Hey Claudius, you killed my father big mistake.
Last action hero was awesome. It's stupid but also so good.
The best thing about shit films is that they aren't all neatly scripted and polished; I love the space they have in them for the audience to think and wonder. And wonder how they did wrong so creatively!
anyone else notice you can see brad in the reflection of the youtube play button?
My guilty pleasure bad movies are Iron Sky, Kung Fury, and Not Another Teen Movie. I agree with you guys that those movies would just go completely unappreciated being made in modern times.
I love Last Action Hero… as a kid it was my go to action movie to rent cuz I knew I could watch with my dad without pissing off my mom. 😂
The whole thing about being spoiled by decent movies is why i have a fascination with bad animal based horror movies but mainly shark movies
Eraser is also my favorite of his lesser tier movies. There's been several times, I've chosen to watch fan made films over Disney-fied movies like The Last Jedi, and I don't mind Mr.Beast, but I've watch y'all's videos far more than I've ever seen any of his.
Or when your grandma had hundreds of VHS/DVD's so you had like a library's worth of movies to watch lol
For me that VHS was a battered old copy of Howard the Duck! Still love that movie
Every movie named I like.... Does that mean I have bad taste😂
Dang....I thought the cat was a dog...heh...Either way, Whiskers was a naughtier version of McGruff, the Crime Dog, who did a lot of commercials at the time. Not a surprise give the cat was voiced by Danny DeVito.....
I love 6th day cuz his character's name is the same as mine.
Vaguely related to the topic, but my favorite (bad) Arnold film would be End of Days. The Devil was just cheesing it up in there.
That is something I keep pointing out to people. Sure, a movie can be bad, it can be low budget, it can have mistakes, but is it entertaining? Does it do it's job at being fun?
So..... Are you ready for something rated to the video followed by a really funny comment. -every fact fiend intro.
LAH is a love and a joy
I like media that isn't "good" like kung-fu hustle, moonknight TV show, music
saw the first scene of the movie and ik what im about to watch
15:51 as a kid i watched random shit on Netflix like young Indiana jones and the super mario show
Fact fiend bottle opener when 👀
where's the green screen?
This video made me love and respect the man so much more ❤
Doing a workout while listening to Arnold Schwarzenegger facts...
I hope you are having a good day
Does Cactus Jack count as an bad Arnie action movie?
If so, I think that might be my favourite!
If not, then The Running Man, which is like a 6.5/10 average...somehow... You're right that people can't appreciate a movie that got a lowISH review score...
Another bad great Arnold Schwarzenegger movie is Running Man......
Yay
Last Action Hero was the Not Another Teen Movie of the action genre. Such an underrated movie.
Tbh... rating systems have been completely trucked.
Like, someone does a *really* mediocre haphazard excuse of something. And most go "well, this is terrible. 8/10."
I'm one of the FEW people that seem to know that 5/10 is... average. Like, a genre I enjoy with a 5/10 *should* be fine. Like: Nothing out there. But perfectly fine popcorn.
I'd definitely consider it on a slow day. If its a genre I don't enjoy, I'd probably skip it. Since the bar is higher. (Though, KNOWING people can't rate correctly throws ALL that out the window.
Yet, if I rate something that is awful a 2/10, people are all "OMG! You can't DO that!", and how it's at LEAST a 7. I mean, heck: I gave a low review for a indie game that was a buggy mess with year old issues that wasn't fixed, false advertisement, the works. AND: In their latest version: They FORGOT to include the .exe file.
... In a way, I am reminded of fat activists and their own failure of a rating system. "So, you're 400 kg, have NO marketable, domestic or useful skills. Bring NOTHING to the table and overall, is a leech to all you know. How would you rate yourself? - DEFINATELY a 10/10. PERFECT catch. Anyone would be LUCKY to have me."
I had an uncle that collected action film VHS tapes, so i used to call round after school, collect one, then I'd wake up early before school to watch it before going to school and repeating.
Before anyone asks, i had homework in the evenings and an old tv and vhs player in my room, and the mornings i knew my parents wouldn't suddenly burst in and see blood, guts and potential boobies.
Last Action Hero flopped because it came out againt Jurassic Park.
TBH I don't even like most "high quality" content, the often feel bland for me. And I don't have that much fun as some in watching shitty things, either ironically or to make fun of something. So... I absolutley LOVE all mid tier shit. Probably because only them feel... Geniue? Or I just have shitty taste.
I don't watch Mr Beast, I'll stick to this thank-you very much
It gets annoying people panning a perfectly good movie just because it isn't up to the standards of the big budget films from Disney usually. They haven't watched the trash I have my whole life, so much awful junk of movies that I find rather charming in it's own way. It's like how many think games should all be high frame rate, ultra hd, realistic AAA games, when some of the best games of all time are like Minecraft. Nothing needs to be a masterpiece to be good!
End of Days is my favorite bad Arnie flick. It's an awful movie where nothing works but by god is it entertaining. It's slickly made but Arnold is poorly trying to stretch his dramatic chops, the plot is complete nonsense, it's still trying to be a Schwarzenegger action movie with big set pieces despite the dramatic tone and the actor playing the Devil is hamming it up like he's in a wacky sex Comedy half the time. Not to mention it's dated as hell just in terms of what it's plot is about. I love it ;p
Allan quatermain and King Solomon's mines is a great example of Indiana Jones rip off with terrible sets and dialogue lol but was a good b movie
there's something kinda hilarious about giving a bottle opener to a guy who can open his beer bottles with pretty much anything
As a kid I ended up watching a lot of older movies and all the Star Trek movies cause they were on vhs. Stuff like the old herby movies still give me a good nostalgia feeling
