    On the topic of Cavill and the Witcher to be fair the whole series deviated way beyond a simple adaptation. Hell the writers themselves have been said to have hated the source material.

    • @KrossShadow
      @KrossShadow 8 месяцев назад +1

      Correct, I don't think Henry is hard to work with in that regards. He was told it was going to be one way, that he was brought on because of his love and knowledge to help keep them in the general lore of the story and they just said screw it. It probably was a "Halle Berry" script situation where they told him these things to get him to sign on knowing that they weren't going to keep their word. And know look where they're at.

    To be fair to Cavill he seems to care a lot about the characters he plays and wants to portray them as close to the source material as possible and that seems to have done him well by fans.
    Particularly with Witcher the changes haven't been very popular with fans and he's often praised for trying to stick with the original authors vision so the writers of that show may be a little bias on his 'difficult' nature he may or may not have as he was proven right when the 3rd season of Witcher and its god awful spin off hit the scene and tanked.

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 9 месяцев назад +18

      Yeah, I think at this point it's pretty clear Cavill is a giant nerd. I know interviews aren't indicative of who a person is but he always comes across quite nice in those. Perhaps he's a monster behind the scenes but it's only ever been the Witcher people slagging him for being "difficult" to work with and their evidence seems to be he just respected the source material more than they did and fought for less changes.

    Superman (like Spiderman) is, in fact, confirmed to roll with punches to avoid shattering the fists of his opponents. And for people going 'what about guys with robotic hands/arms' if you tank a blow and do not move against a robotic arm, the hand/arm doesn't break. The shoulder does.

    When it comes to The Witcher I'm with Cavil.
    They hired him knowing he sought out the role as a fan of the books. They knew hiring him and writers who didn't care for the books would lead to conversations about adaptational changes but if there was good story telling and solid reasoning to back up their changes things might have gone differently. Instead every change had fans of the character scratching their heads and that included Henry.
    Not everyone who worked with him has had issues with the guyand a lot of people speak highly of him but the issues that have been had were very public.

    • @alienatedpoet1766
      @alienatedpoet1766 9 месяцев назад +8

      He even said himself he got into the video games first and knew there were lots of changes from the book. The stuff that he (and other writers and consultants that were fired) asked to change was stuff that was too far. Sure enough, most viewers didn't like the show now. Cavil and co knew that adaptations shift, its in the name. And the novels weren't great pieces of literature either, change had to happen regardless. But when something seems to match current poor quality writing trends and leaves viewers with a sour taste in their mouth, then it isn't a problem with someone not understanding an adaptation, it is just bad writing. They saw the writing on the wall, tried to correct the course, and got fired for it.

      @@ericmalikyte885 The series didn't blow up until 3 and I'm one of those guys who started from the first game instead of jumping straight to 3.
      First game is really awkward and aged horribly. Skip this.
      Second game's story is pretty shallow and the gameplay has a steep curve (but you can import your save from 1 and that helps ease the skill curve) it is okay, but I can't recommend unless you put yourself through the first one.
      Then the third game is amazing, but pretty much ignores the first two games. (And depending on your choices in 2, can actually reduces your choices in 3.) All the games take place after the novels and in their own timeline so you don't need to read them anyway. And any plot points set up by the first and 2nd games are solved in the first quest for 3.
      Witcher 3 pretty much just took the world from the novels, and the bare-bones characters, and polished them up. And the author is left seething. As a writer I can understand being annoyed that you took a lump sum instead of royalties if you sold your IP. But then to take your okay-ish books, do them far better, and have those games become more popular than your own source material, I'd be sour too.

    Kirk Allyn had a cameo in Superman (1978) , sitting on the train going through Smallville, as the little girl (later revealed in a deleted scene as a young Lois Lane) sees Clark racing the train. Sitting across from Allyn was the original Lois Lane form the serials and TV show, Noel Neill.
