I've been driving a GL 1100 on my learner's permit and I can safely say that if you want a bike that you can drive across the country on in one single go without getting numb or starting to ache everywhere, get a Goldwing. No other bike even compares when it comes to ride comfort. It's like sitting in the best leather armchair you can imagine and it's so incredibly smooth to drive.
I've also been driving a Yamaha FZ6 (since I have to take the test for my license on a 600cc sport touring) and the difference is like night and day. If you want to keep riding while everyone else is in pain, the Goldwing is absolutely the bike for you. No question.
However, the only downside is its weight. It can be tricky to steer at very low speeds and in tight spaces. The older models don't have reverse either, forcing you work harder if you didn't think about out where to stop beforehand. Fortunately you don't get stuck in tight spaces very often with a monster like this :)

That's great to hear Gene, enjoy it! I'm hoping to get a 1986 real soon, I think it will be my 26th or 27th bike.

The Beyonder just got two 1984 Honda GL 1200 Gold Wing Interstates! “ Dusty” is sitting at 99k and runs ... not perfect for sitting since 2014 in a cycle shop.. and “Rusty “ another GL 1200 ! Given to me! And $950 for Dusty a few items and a trip around the block put two miles on “ Dustys Odometer! And found out it needed a carburetor rebuild kit.. might as well do all four while I am at it... Intake plenum gasket? Plastic and metal? Air Clean ? LeaKs ? Check closely this area on a 1984-87 GL 1200.. amazing enough I found a source here in USA 🇺🇸 for some parts for Honda Gold Wings.. I few ideas for Rusty? But I want to get Dusty back on the Trail... it was the filthiest road bike I have ever seen! Road grime? Blown fork seal that was changed out some time ago... according to the previous owner of Dusty.. ! Rusty was last licensed in 2004 left sadly to deteriorate to a state of? Rebuild the Gold Wing with 42 k miles ? Trike Kit ? Two Fer s ! I found out about this bike .... long before but could never afford a Gold Wing ... until... it’s ok I am old school and from Cheyenne Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 pre y2k... but to rebuild birds 🦅 here in California USA 🇺🇸? Yosemite or Sequoias will be my second choice after a Test ride down our “ Orange 🍊 Blossom Trail” about a 50 mile loop here in our California USA 🇺🇸 San Joaquin Valley!
Parts are Parts ? Chicken partz? Gold Wings are not your normal bird 🦅! Harley and Kawasaki? My old Wyoming home and a 73 Yamaha RD 350..... super Fast ! And quick ... and Hodaka! I have come a long way! Dinosaurs 🦕 doo Fly on Gold Wings ! Perhaps someday soon I’ll be able to ride Dusty back to Cheyenne Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 for a visit.. on the Dusty trail!
